View Full Version : multiAVCHD - author Blu-ray/AVCHD (Blu-ray players, camcoders, Viera TV) + (HD) DVD
Well, PS3 recognizes one AVCHD folder and one only.
If you don't care to keep the original blu-ray menu, multiAVCHD allows you to create up to 252 titles in a single compilation (in one AVCHD folder).
If you don't like it, you can create AVCHD folder for each movie/video like:
AVCHD_Movie1
AVCHD_Video3
AVCHD_BDRA
But then you'll need a PC to rename the one you want to watch in the PS3. You can do it manually (renaming for example AVCHD_Movie1 to AVCHD) or use "AVCHD Manager" application - it will do it for you.
Dean :)
ADDED: one other question: i've got 720p23... level 4.1 DXVA h264 video with ref 8, but when i tried to mux it (is the same title blue-...), i've got a "message" that ref-frames MUST be 7. but i'm able to play this title from a usb-stick on ps3(no lags, etc..).
Q: Is this Correct? (ref7, not ref8).
In fact the maximum number of referent frames for 720p is 6. PS3 is forgiving enough and can play videos, encoded with higher number of ref frames. For 1080p ref is max 4.

@crl2007: You're wrong. PS3 plays AVCHD/Bluray from USB/SDHC/MemoryStick complete with menus, DTS audio, VC1 video etc... no need to burn to DVD or BD-R. That's the main idea for the reauthoring and the [SONY Playstation 3] button. You drag your original BDMV folder (from the ripped disc) and click [Playstation 3]. Then multiAVCHD transfers the original, splits the larger files to 4GB chunks, rewrites the playlists and clpi files and you get all set. I already did it few times with Ghost Rider and Cruel Intentions Blu-ray titles.
Some of my friends on NTSC PS3 did not succeed after re-authoring with multiavchd. The menus wouldn't display. It did like for the original ripped and split disc. So I spoke out of knowledge.
And a bug that I found is the fact that after re-authoring, a series disc is bigger. I had a 15 GB ( only 2 small episodes ) one and after re-authoring it was 22 GB. The first episode worked, but the second was the original one. And the one that was multiplied has been edited, but it can't be used.
How can I change the Title thumbnail??
multiAVCHD takes automatically the first frame of the movie, but such frames are ever black ones.
Looks very ugly in the chapter menus.
Any solution?
Title thumbnail is not black and has nothing to do with the chapters. And no - you can't change the 1st chapter thumbnail.
There is a workaround if you replace the .jpg file in HDAVCTN folder and then re-author the compilation. It takes few minutes.
A quick note about some changes in 750+:
* Fixed: [x] Set 12 equal chapter jumps option. If not selected, multiAVCHD will not auto-create 12 chapters, but will use only one (00:00:00.000) or will import the embedded marks from the imported file.
* Fixed: Proper AVCHDTN thumbnail is used for all titles when using only 1 chapter mark (TV/Cam).
In addition to the above:
* 1st scene/thumbnail in AVCHDTN index (for TV/Cam) will show the title thumbnail and not the 1st chapter (which is usually black). This way you'll get the root menu in the BDP/TV/Camcoder navigator to show the title thumb (user or auto generated) for each title. Much more useful.
* [-] Set 12 equal chapter jumps & [x] Set auto chapter at title end options will get you 2 chapters per title: one at start and one at end. (thanks to Nic for reminding me of the second option, which was ignored)
* Some other minor changes to improve stability (less random crashes with read access in calclib.dll)

@sreemv: Sadly I had no time to update the guide... There were so many changes for the last months that I need to rewrite it completely.
I can fully understand the no time issue.

Hi deank,
With the latest build 750+ , default installation, selecting "AVCHD/BDMV/DVD Folders" tab, and opening Dark Shikari's Blu-Ray (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154183), selecting no specific options, but immediately STARTing the output job to PS3.
It produces an error like this :
http://i44.tinypic.com/au8o3q.png
And when the resulting tree is copied to <USB-Stick>:\AVCHD\***
PS3 says : No titles found.
Hi Dean! A quick suggestion - it might be better to always bump up the build number instead of adding a "+" every other build. I mainly say it just because I'm never quite sure if I have the "+" build or not, or at least it takes a while to figure it out. For example, right now I open up the program and it says I have the most recent build, but then it says that I have build 750 simply, nothing about a "+". To see if I have the "+" build I suppose I'd have to go by the date of the build, and then check on the forums when that build was published if I really wanted to be sure, etc. Anyway, if you always bump up the number it would eliminate that possible confusion. Thanks for such a great program!

Strange... Does this file exists in the path? And where did you save the BDMV folder from DS's blu-ray? I hope not in multiAVCHD's temp folder.
Try to set your TEMP and destination folders... also a log will help.

Try to set your TEMP and destination folders... also a log will help.
- There are no files directly in the output path ( C:\multiAVCHD\BDRA\ ) , but only in the 2 subdir beneath them ( AVCHDTN and BDMV ).
Please see directory contents below.
- The BDMV folder from DS's blu-ray is mounted as drive K: using Virtual CloneDrive (Elaborate Bytes)
- The temp folder is at the default ( c:\multiAVCHD\_TEMP\ )
- The destination is at the default ( C:\multiAVCHD\BDRA\ )

There is a little bug in mkv import.
When you import a mkv file with german labeled chapters then multiAVCHD adds an unwanted de string to the chapter name.

It is not a bug. multiAVCHD just removes the "en:". There is no way to know what info is stored in the 'chapter names'.
Hmm, I think the language label is NOT content of the chapter name itself. Should be an attribute.
Players like MPC show it correct.

Dean, a quick note about reauthoring. I did a BD25 movie-only backup with the latest BD-RB and dropped the resulting BDMV directory into multiAVCHD for re-authoring. I added one audio track (BD-RB output has no audio tracks) and one .srt subtitle. In the subtitles tab I ticked "Force display of first subtitle track" box, but when I play the reauthored disc, I have to enable the subtitle track manually; i.e. the "Force" option does not work. I can force the subtitle on by dropping multiAVCHD output into ClownBD, ticking the "Force subtitle" box and letting ClownBD remux the data.
Should the "Force display of first subtitle track" option work in re-author mode? Any chance of fixing it so I don't have to run the data through ClownBD?
Yes, Force option is only for the normal authoring mode, because it requires writing to the MovieObject.bdmv and in re-author mode multiAVCHD doesn't touch the original *.bdmv files.
I don't know what clownBD does. "Force display" is one thing and "Forced subtitles" is another thing. What do you do once you use ClownBD?

"Force display" is one thing and "Forced subtitles" is another thing. What do you do once you use ClownBD?
In "Step 1", I enter multiAVCHD output directory as source, tick a box labeled "Force Subtitles" (box hint text is "Check this box to always turn on subtitles") and click 'Next' for a screen where I choose which video, audio and subtitles streams are included. In that screen I also choose whether to use Unconverted audio (or core, or encode to DD/DTS) and select output format (TS, M2TS, Blu-ray). I select unconverted audio and Blu-ray output format, and when I click 'Next', ClownBD calls eac3to for an analysis pass (done in seconds), followed by "eac3to 3rd pass" (~10-15 minutes, a demux pass) and tsMuxeR remux pass.
So basically ClownBD switches the single subtitle track to "enabled by default" mode and copies video/audio/chapters without re-encoding. I could do the same with tsMuxeR if it had an option to Force subs on.

Ok, I guess I didn't read your previous post properly. You said you used BD-RB to do a movie-only backup, which you then used in multiAVCHD. That's another story...
You can load the movie playlist (00000.mpls) in multiAVCHD and use the normal authoring mode. There is no need to do re-authoring, since it is a simple movie-only title.

Hey dean, I got a Sony BDP-S300 and i have 1 rewritable burned that works, but i cant seem to get the other 2 working, i use the "For all bluray players" function, i use imgburn to burn, (using the function in the settings menu) and i used the same burn speeds for all, what could cause this problem?
and is there a way to load up all the settings i used for the blu ray RE that works and apply them to my default settings, or at least find out what these settings were?
Greeting, Beatnut
The settings are stored in the project file in the output folder (multiAVCHD.mpf or in AUXDATA). If you enable loading the settings ([-] Discard settings from project.... UNTICKED) and if you drag the BDMV folder of the working BD you'll see what your settings were.
I was thinking last night of one option that was missing in the transcode window. I really wanted to be able to 'zoom' some film aspect ratios back to 16:9 so they can fit 100% on my TV screen - much like what some TV broadcasters do when broadcast a 1:2.4 movies. Of course you'd loose some picture info from both sides, but since most movies are shoot even for 4:3 broadcasting - it is not so bad.
The option is in the Crop T/B box in transcode settings. All values with "%H" are zoom/crop factor which you can change to fit the proper resolution.
It is possible to zoom 1920x1080 directly to the anamorphic SD-DVD resolution, removing the black bars, or keep 1920x1080 or resize down to 1280x720... Whatever you wish.

You can leave just the half of the black bars and not fully expand the frame. Proper values are usually 17%H and 33%H, but you'll have to try it yourself.

And another addition useful for camcoder users. If for some reason you delete your playlist/clpi files or get the structure broken, but still have your .MTS files, multiAVCHD will extract the recording date and time from each mts file and will use it as a 'title name' to ease the things...
Panasonic, Sony and Canon record the date in the m2ts video packets so extraction takes just few milliseconds. I didn't find such information in JVC camcoder recordings.
If date/time is detected - information will be displayed in the LOG, too:

Hi dean, ive done some research, the reason for the Ps3 and probably more blu ray players to not read BD-RE is this https://hdcookbook.dev.java.net/source/browse/hdcookbook/trunk/DiscCreationTools/cpistrip/README.txt?rev=427&view=markup
It is because certain bytes are meant to be 00 instead of 01 or whatever, the bD player checks this, and then decides not to play it, it has to do with the CDISTRIP
is there any way this can be fixed in the near future?
It has nothing to do with multiAVCHD. tsMuxeR will set the copy-protection off while muxing (I believe) and AnyDVDHD will do, too. There is nothing to fix in the m2ts files produced by multiAVCHD. What is the source you used for these 2 non-working BD-REs?
//
You can check it yourself with HEX editor if you open the M2TS file and look at the 1st byte. If it is >$3f then it means the copy-protection is still on.

The source as in, the mkv file? i used an episode of Lost, and tried AVCHD burned to BD-RE and used BDMV 1.1 burned to BD-RE, the working disc contains The Dark Knight and The hurt locker with BDMV 1.1
But since they are Rewritabe, i used a whole range of source files, HD Trailers etc. but no succes.
i can fix this by muxing with TsMuxer but switch ON copy protection?
Copy protection has nothing to do with it. I really don't know what the problem could be.
And another addition useful for camcoder users. If for some reason you delete your playlist/clpi files or get the structure broken, but still have your .MTS files, multiAVCHD will extract the recording date and time from each mts file and will use it as a 'title name' to ease the things...
Thanks!
Today's updates:
* Added: Panasonic HDC-TM300 in manufacturers selection
* Added: .TP file extension support (DviCo Fusion capture cards format)
* Fixed/Changed: Processing playlist files with existing ExtensionData is changed. multiAVCHD will remove and recreate the segment to improve compatibility and scene changes.
* Fixed: [merge playlists] button now works properly with AVCHD output, because of the fix mentioned above.

Thanks, fixed.:)
Ok... When you load the BDMV folder answer with NO to the prompt for importing pictures for slideshow. (or untick [x] Prompt for importing pictures option in Settings).
I get the same error when importing the pictures - will be fixed.
*** Fixed in build 751. multiAVCHD will ignore pictures if \BDMV\ is found in the path - it will prevent picture-slideshow-prompt when user imports BD titles for reauthoring.
Hi Dean,
Although the DS's blu-ray does now play on the PS3 after conversion, there are irregularities, best seen as banding on the bottom part of the sailing boat video.
If I simply copy the original .m2ts files to USB stick, PS3 will play them visually perfect, but no audio is detected.
You know that both playback modes are completely different. The file mode and AVCHD/Blu-ray modes in PS3 are like two completely different applications.
There is no way that the authoring process itself causes such banding. You may check your TV settings. For example my PS3 is set to 1920x1080p but when you play back 1280x720 in AVCHD/Blu-ray mode, the TV will switch to 720p with different profile.

I concur.
@deank I was right a few days ago, PS3 can't play java menus from HDD. The ones made with multiavchd yes, but the original java ones no.

It was mentioned in the re-author announcement post back in January. Original IG menus work, not Java. It was removed by sony with firmware 2.5.
Also when you import Java authored title multiAVCHD prompts you if you're going to use it with PS3 and switches to normal authoring mode if you indicate so.

Tried to create an AVCHD BD5 with three 720p matroska files, with motion menus & burned-in subtitles, and relaxed AVCHD mode. According to the log, multiAVCHD chose Strict mode regardless ("Strict AVCHD Folder mode is enabled...") and then something went wrong when creating the menus. Unfortunately I had ticked the "delete temp files" box and lost the menu creation .avs files but managed to save the .log (attachment removed). The app also sent you three error reports, I believe.
edit: Noticed now that I had a tick in the "Stricter AVCHD folder format" under Author. D'oh!

This tick option affects only folder creation (like no CERTIFICATE/AUXDATA/etc) and has nothing to do with the [AVCHD strict] menus.
Your attachment needs approval, so I can't see it.
Also multiAVCHD does not send anything. The pop-up says: REPORT THE ERROR to the author, which means that you (the user) must report it when you play the AVS script.

Damn. How's this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/x8jma2

Oh, OK. The wording and the Yes/No buttons sort of hinted that by selecting "Yes" the app would generate and send a report. My bad. Clicking "Yes" opened Mplayer which did nothing but show a totally green screen.

A green screen would mean that you don't have the proper directshow chain/decoder to decode the video used in the menu.
You used FFms2 for the main transcoding, but it can't be used for menu encoding. Since you lack directshow decoder/splitter for m2ts+h.264 - it fails.

I think it's actually because I'm running my encoding box over Remote Desktop. I tried to preview the menu, got the green screen again, and noticed that Mplayer status window shows a DirectX error, "your videocard can't display overlay" or something like that.

I don't remember ticking the FFms2 box ever. Is it ticked by default? I mean, I can't think of a reason why I would've ticked that box.

No, it is not ticked by default, but your log says:
[12:42:02] *** Stand-by for indexing (ffms2)...

Yeah. Once you mentioned it, I noticed that the "Use FFms2" box was ticked under Settings. I just don't remember ticking it and I can't see a reason why I would have. Weird! :)

Most probably because without it you won't be able to transcode anything. :)

Well, it's this same box I use with BD-RB, RipBot264 and MeGUI, and they all work fine. I've got FFDshow, Haali and Avisynth installed as per BD-RB's requirements.

It could be something about the motion menus... Try with static menu + static title thumbnail.

I'm running another attempt of the same project now, this time with FFms2 unticked, to see if that affects the result. If that fails, I'll try static.

It makes no sense to do that, because menu encoding is a different procedure and it will fail again.
Also reduce the bitrate a bit more, because you got ~300MB oversize and it won't fit on a DVD5.

I thought you said menu encoding failed the last time because FFms2 was ticked? This time it's not ticked. How does the menu encoding differ from 'regular' encoding?

Yeah, I noticed it was oversized... but I used the "fit all" button and chose DVD5. I'm not entering bitrates manually.

Your compilation failed with menu encoding. FFms2 has nothing to do with it. I mentioned it because if one doesn't have proper decoders/filters transcoding (of titles) will still work if FFms2 is selected, but the menu will fail.
You can enter a lower value in the [transcode media fit] option in AUTHOR tab and when you click FIT-ALL don't select DVD5 but you'll see the size you enter in AUTHOR tab, so select it (for example enter 4200).
