You can do it in title PROPERTIES, Chapters, [auto] button.
multiAVCHD will generate as many chapter marks as you set. Since 732+ auto[12] is disabled, so you should get what you want.

Is it possible for you to offer the possibility to add a preference in the "Setting" tab that let us choose the number of chapters we'd like by default.

Because, in the Properties, we are compelled to apply the auto button for each track one by one (my compilation have up to 50 tracks sometimes).
The properties Auto button fonction should remain because it's very useful when we want to apply to a track a different number of chapters... (hope what I wrote was comprehensible)

Thanks

EDIT: Found it! For some reason...

It is fixed now. Update manually with multiUPDATE if not prompted.

Hi there,

You simply need to play the .avs script with mplayer or MPC and report the error message (before clicking [YES] at the prompt).

Thanks Dean.

So is it normal I should be getting this with the latest build? I have not had it before.

deank
4th March 2010, 20:36
No, it is not normal and I never got this error (even I am the one to write the program). Basically it means that your PC can't encode the menu with your current codec configuration.

Once you play the AviSynth script you'll know why is this happening.

deank

Thinking about something... Going after the volume split and the playlist merge I encountered a case when I needed a playitem/title to be split to multiple titles at each chapter point.

Basically it would allow users to go back from camcoder joined scenes to having each scene in a separate title or (another example) - to load a concert video with 20 songs, with chapter marks at each song start, getting each song as a separate title/playlist. It would allow rearranging or any other manipulation PER CHAPTER (since a chapter segment would become a TITLE).

Since M2TS/MPEG join function does the merge, I think that a chapter-split option would be useful to do the opposite (either for joined m2ts/mpeg or for single files).

:)

And I added [Title List menu] button in the preview section of MENU tab. I guess the preview will be available soon.

And some important changes to re-author mode (speed improvement).

And a fix when using hidden titles (AGAIN!)

And an option to use [merge playlists] button with Blu-ray discs' playlists (or re-authored discs imported in normal author mode) - that is when playlists are not from regular AVCHD structures and may contain menu playitems or pop-up menus.

Hi Dean, there are more people getting this very same error including myself as I reported in my last post. Can you be more specific on "play the AviSynth script" thing? My problem still persists unless I turn the media split OFF. Thank you.

Sorry Dean,

I mistyped the previous error, it should have read:

Encoding static XMB menu page [1/1] [static title thumbnail]
Cannot detect file size: (Z:\TempStore\multiTEMP-20100304\20100304-123456-MM001.264)
Error encoding main menu page #1!

When I check that file in the temp folder it is 0 bytes.

However, the .264 file located in the same location as the original .mkv file has the expected size set by the transcode options for the media.

I don't know how more specific I have to be. The error box shows a file name (the avisynth script required to encode the menu page). You go to this file folder and play the file with MPC (Media Player Classic) or MPC-HT. When you play it the player will play a video with the actual error (probably).

Sorry Dean,

When I check that file in the temp folder it is 0 bytes.

However, the .264 file located in the same location as the original .mkv file has the expected size set by the transcode options for the media.

That's why the error is printed - because this .264 file is the encoded menu page and it is ZERO bytes because for some reason it was NOT encoded at all.

@deak

Have things gotten so rough that you've "lost your shirt"?

:p Btw I added this option to [alter detected properties] if a video. There is a checkbox to force a file as [HD-DVD compliant] if for some reason multiAVCHD can't detect it as such.

It is a good way to import non-x264 encoded files (which are compliant) and use this option to avoid reencoding.

Can you check if it works for you?

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_x264nal.jpg

It is now possible to use newer x264 builds and 64bit version of the encoder.

Newer builds require different nal-hrd parameter --nal-hrd vbr or --nal-hrd cbr, so make sure to set it properly.

Usage of 64bit x264 requires that you name your 64bit version of the exe as x264_64.exe and to have avs4x264.exe (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/avs4x264.exe) in your tools folder.

I never understood users' desire for 64bit versions... I'm fed up with requests so I added it... Multiple tests show that encoding of 2 hour video gets about 30 seconds to 2 minutes less time to complete with the 64bit version... Does it really matter when you spend 2-3-5 hours in encoding? :)

Hi Deank,

thanks again for this great program. I refer to the post above. I use Windows 7 (64bit) and receive the following two errors:

[09:03:05] Encoding static XMB menu page [1/1] [Static title thumbnail].
[09:03:07] Cannot detect file size: (C:\multiAVCHD\_TEMP\multiTEMP-20100306\20100306-090248-MM001.264)
[09:03:07] Error encoding main menu page #1!
[09:05:43] Final output may be corrupted!
[09:05:43] Trying to use TITLE-LIST menu as main menu...

As you have mentioned above, I should look for the avs file and play it. It worked fine, no errors, Zoomplayer showed me a very short clip of the main menu (one or two seconds). The final output also seem to play well on my ps3. So, how do I correct this error? Why is it happening?

My 2nd Problem: If I have a mkv title and want to add srt subtiltes, I get this error msg:

[20:10:13] !!! Error converting subtitles! (java?)

Why? Of course, I have only used simple .srt subtitles. And the funny thing is, that the output plays fine on my ps3 with the correct subtitles. Again, why this error?

Thank you!!

deank
6th March 2010, 09:15
Update your multiAVCHD with multiUPDATE.exe and try to change the value in your ini file at line 58. It is probably 7 - set it to 14 for example.

The error about subtitles is because multiAVCHD tries to create advanced/better looking subtitles... If it fails it defaults to the standard processing and tsMuxeR creates the subtitles. That's why it works in your PS3. If you install latest JAVA probably the error will go away.

A quick note about something I added for people with low-resolution displays:

There is a small <> button at the top which allows you to switch the positions of the progress bars and the start button group so you can see them...

http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_switchB.jpg

Also in title properties / playlist you'll see which m2ts files belong to the current title / playlist, their size and duration.

For [r] [s] [m] and [p] titles you'll also see the playlist name in the Compilation box.

http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_tp_pl.jpg

***

There is a new option in MENU/Extended tab:

[x] Create Single-title menu pages

When using multiple titles it will make multiAVCHD to show only the current title in the menu page. For example: in a compilation with 7 titles you will always see ONLY the current title in the menu. Scrolling UP/DOWN or LEFT/RIGHT will show the other menu pages. This is useful when users use [x] Never reencode unchanged menu pages option and frequently add new titles to big compilations.

Here is the difference in a compilation with 11 titles:

option OFF:
http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_ST_OFF.jpg

option ON:
http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_ST_ON.jpg

***

It is worth to menion that using this option speeds up menu generation 2-3 times.

There were few minor changes which caused some speed improvement with all menu pages generation and preview + a workaround for the cases when x264 locks in the background without fully processing the parsed avisynth script.

deank, I am noticing that when I use the set poster frame for a given title from the preview window, it inserts the appropriate time for that still image in the poster frame box. But if I select ok, and go back to that title, the poster frame #/seconds is correct, but the picture displayed is not the poster frame I selected. Should the poster frame I selected be the one displayed in the preview window when I select the title properties from the media select window?
EDIT:
Also, if I check the menu to view my selections, should the poster frames of the working titles be displayed or just your logo?

Entering title-properties defaults to the middle of the video.
Menu preview doesn't show user-defined frame. It does for external poster .jpg files or for imported structures with HDAVCTN folder.

Don't worry - it will be okay in the final compilation.

I do have the latest build, so how would one know to change such an item, or when is it even necessary?
This project had 9 .TS files that are reported as 1080P, 29.97fps, recorded from my DVR. I did reencoded them to reduce the file size some to fit on one BD-R. Just trying to test your program again, but if it wasn't for your quick reply, I would have been stumped! :p

6th March 2010, 20:35
This problem is since the first build that introduced a menu in multiAVCHD. There was this option in ver 3.0 "Frames to encode: [---slider---] 2/30"... It defined how many frames avisynth should generate for a SINGLE FRAME H.264 stream that would be accepted by x264 for encoding to .264 file.

I never had problems with setting the value to 2 frames.

Few weeks ago another user had the same problem and he said that it works for him ONLY with values >6 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1373544&highlight=frames+encode#post1373544)... Today another user did some tests and said it works only with values >10. I have no idea what is it and why is it happening.

A value of 14 avisynth served frames seems to work for everyone. It however affects the speed of static menu pages generation.

You can imagine that with 2 frames it takes 7 times less time to encode a menu page (~2-3 seconds, instead of waiting for 20-30 seconds).

Here is the post about it from February last year. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1247122#post1247122)

Well I guess it is better to take a little longer and work than be quicker and fail! :p
Will this change in the .ini change with updates to MultiAVCHD?
Will the new value be a standard for this and each update?
Since I am a very infrequent user, it will be hard to remember this in the future. For me, I am most likely to use your program with many .TS files, as my previous example. So, depending on your answer, I guess it would be a concern on a fresh install if I forget to change this line 58!

deank
6th March 2010, 21:08
A fresh install sets it to 14. And won't let even manual ini edit to set it to a value lower than 7, so don't worry. I guess I'll have to re-enable the slider (it is hidden at the moment, because there was no proper free space for it in the GUI).

(if you delete the .ini you'll see it set to 14)

Check the value of MASTER CUT END in AUTHOR tab. Probably you have entered a value different than 0, which causes trimming of your video to just few minutes.

The only place I can see it is in a line parsed to imgburn:

Identifier_Publisher=multiAVCHD

May be once you start ImgBurn you will see it somewhere. Have you seen such info when using other authoring tools or with re-authored discs from BD-RB?

deank, I have never had this happen with BD-RB, and I always create my own image manually outside of the BD-RB project.
I have noticed that some BluRay backups done with BD-RB will have a different name than the one I provided in the UDF Label section, ex: I provide "STEPFATHER", Sony S360 BluRay player says "STEPFATHER, THE".
So there must be some meta data or something/somewhere!
The only two projects that I have used MultiAVCHD to create a BluRay from captured TV shows both have the same "MultiAVCHD - ...my label".
This is really no big deal! :p I just thought there may have been a simple explanation.
