Currently, only one audio and sub source are supported. Deank hinted that he will be working on expanding their support in the future.

As to multiple selections, what's wrong with just using the remove button on the once you don't want to keep?

Say BD input has 50 titles, you only want to keep one. Currently you have to hit remove 49 times.

Or once and hold the "Enter" key.

Edit:

Okay, I've narrowed down the problem eac3to problem, and it appears to be with the "resampleTo48000" command. Once it finds clipping, eac3to just deadlocks, and sits there idly. I've reproduced this outside of multiAVCHD, so I'll let the author of eac3to know about it.

Internal subs from BD sources work now in 742 but I noticed only one was kept while there were 3 selected, I also notice this with audio. Any chance of removing this limitation?

Also is there any chance of multiple selection (shift/ctrl + click) for media pane and audio/subs panes?

I'll add up-to 32 internal subtitles later today. Audio is another story and I'll need to think about it.

No, there is no ctrl/shit multi-selection option in the GUI designer I'm using for multiAVCHD. A lot of things are not available.

You can set the option in AUTHOR/Import: Do not import DVD tiltes and AVCHD/BD playlists if shorter than: [3600] seconds to skip all short features/trailers/warnings/etc.

Here we go:

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_DVDsubs.jpg

multiAVCHD now supports up to 32 subtitle tracks for SD-DVD output mode.

Few things you need to know when using subtitles:

* External subtitles are processed first and placed before the internal ones in the subtitle order. It means that if you add 32 external subtitles you'll get none of the internal ones.

* When using subtitles and 1-pass encoding, never set bitrate to the maximum of 9800. Using a lot of subtitle streams (more than 2) may cause overflows during the muxing phase and will cause all to fail.

* It is always better to process a Blu-ray playlist instead of its movie-m2ts file. This way you can use cut-start/cut-end and you'll see the language IDs of the audio/subtitle tracks.

More than one audio track support will come later this week if I find time for it.

Dean

p.s. You'll get all this in 742+ in few mins.

p.s.2 I forgot to mention that 32 subtitle tracks are not available with MKV, MP4, WMV and FLV fles, but only with blu-ray/avchd playlists, m2ts/mts, ts, mpeg/mpg files, DVD playlists, and elementary stream files: m2v, vc1 and 264.

Sorry about that, guys, but it seems that later-this-week=later-today, so there will be another update this afternoon, since the support of max 8 (per DVD standard) audio tracks is ready :)

Audio and subtitle functions are completely rewritten for SD-DVD output with Blu-ray/AVCHD, m2ts/mts, etc input, so:

* No more weird errors with eac3to, trying wrong tracks

* AC3, DTS, DTS Master/High-resolution audio, TrueHD, MP2/MPA, LPCM/WAV audio supported as internal audio for SD-DVD (plus AC3, DTS, LPCM/WAV, MP2/MPA, MP3 as external)

* Core extraction for internal HD audio tracks will be automatically performed (for Blu-ray/AVCHD playlsits)

* No audio conversion will be performed if the following criteria is met:
- audio is AC3
- bitrate is less or equal to the Non-HD audio bitrate value but not higher than 448kbps
- sampling rate is 48kHz

In such cases audio will be added as is (original).

* ffmpeg will be used as a backup route in case eac3to fails for some reason (like missing DTS decoders)

That's it... I hope I didn't brake anything in the other modules :) Please give it a try and let me know.

And a reminder again: too high video bitrates with too many audio/subtitle tracks may cause muxman to fail muxing the final DVD folder. In such cases at the error prompt to review muxman.job file, remove all unnecessary -s and -a lines.

With this update, multiAVCHD should support full SD-DVD (1 video, 8 audio tracks and 32 subtitle tracks plus chapters). The only thing left is the menu, but it is not a priority at the moment.

@Adub: I'll greatly appreciate if you re-try with that source you had eac3to failures with HD audio.

It's getting longer, just like your programs capabilities, but multiAVCHD/DVD/ANY-VIDEO. :p
Excellent work!
You've become the "multi-talented" all-in-one "multi-media" video programmer!
A big :thanks: :)

Thanks, Caps! Posts like the last one and this one (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1299925#post1299925) (of yours) kept me around, no matter what. It takes few 10x to melt down a cruel programmer's heart (very-evil-grin) :p

@Adub: I'll greatly appreciate if you re-try with that source you had eac3to failures with HD audio.

Roger. However, I don't think it is entirely your programs fault that I was having problems (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1387004#post1387004) earlier. But I'll test and report back on my results as you have requested.

Edit:
HOLY MOLY! That was the fastest conversion I have ever seen! I edited to 100 frames (0 to 100) and transcoded. And BAM! DVD is created just dandy!

Well, almost. Apparently there was a problem with the subtitle conversion:
The funny thing is, I do have java installed. I can run the BDSup2Sub GUI just fine.

deank, just tried a test using the latest build 742 with 11 .TS files of Planet Earth, for BD-25, with these settings: choosing motion menu and motion title thumbnail, inserting my backround video and audio, XMB Menu, skip welcome screen. Also, checked apply in/out fade for menu loop when using BG as is.
I notice on playback that the motion menu fades in and out and the menu audio plays, the main thumbnail button is playing, but there is no looping of the menu. From start, the menu plays for approx. 25-28 seconds but then goes to a black screen as does the main button thumbnail that was displaying motion. The audio, which is 1:37 long and repeats itself at 47 seconds, seems to continue and plays properly. The other 10 button thumbnails are also still visible at this time.
Should the motion menu continue/restart after it finishes its first loop? Maybe not seamlessly, but should it begin again and continue to loop until a selection is made?
I know this may sound funny, but I will admit to admiring this cool looking motion menu without selecting a button, just viewing the menu! :)

The error is caused by the CUT-END option and is not really an error. It is just that probably there are not any subtitles the first 100 seconds, or the interval is too short for tsMuxeR to decode a complete epoch. I'm usually using 300 seconds as a cut-end when I'm testing. I bet these errors won't show when you normally process your Blu-ray title. :)

deank, just tried a test using the latest build 742 with 11 .TS files of Planet Earth, for BD-25, with these settings: choosing motion menu and motion title thumbnail, inserting my backround video and audio, XMB Menu, skip welcome screen. Also, checked apply in/out fade for menu loop when using BG as is.

At the moment, motion background and title-thumb are restricted to 777 NTFS frames (~32.32 seconds). What you see is caused by the audio, which should be 32 seconds, too, but in your case it is much longer. The loop should happen after audio is out, then it should start again. Isn't it?

//

Few small fixes in the latest build:

* Bitrate estimation for SD-DVD will take into account the 1st 8 audio tracks (was set to 1, causing wrong calculation when using more tracks)
* Clicking the donate or multiAVCHD buttons will open the webpage with your default browser and not IE
* Some error prompts are replaced with message box with single button (OK), not like it was until now (YES)/(NO)
* Subtitle processing for SD-DVD will skip demuxed SUP files if too small/broken
* Some other minor changes

Audio and subtitle functions are completely rewritten for SD-DVD output with Blu-ray/AVCHD, m2ts/mts, etc input, so:

* No more weird errors with eac3to, trying wrong tracks..........

I've encoded (1pass) Black Hawk Down bluray to SD-DVD.
I've choosen the LPCM audio track. On settings it is ticked the "LPCM->AC3" option.
Following the projected filesize based upon all above I had to set 6350 as video bitrate to make it fit into a DVD9.
At the end of encoding I had a 6685MB size instead.

Not sure if this is a bug, though.

multiavchd is awsome and it can predict video encodes size but i dont think it can predict audio encodes, meaning, since LPCM is huge and AC3 is small you'll have to predict it yourself and add some bitrate to your video or ac3 encode. :)

example: you had your BD encoded to DVD on 4000kbs video and it originally had LPCM, so when your checked the LPCM to AC3 you saved around 1.5GB of space that your can use to give your video encode a boost!

deank
30th March 2010, 13:32
It is not completely true. multiAVCHD takes into account all audio tracks and their conversion settings (especially with SD-DVD output), so the calculated bitrate is proper.

There is something wrong and it is not the bitrate - I can't see the LPCM track to be demuxed in this log and at the end the SD-DVD doesn't contain any audio or subtitles. That's why it is 'undersized' because the audio is simply missing. If there was audio it would've been close to 8GB for DVD9.

// It is a bug: when there are no subtitles no audio is added :) I'll fix it in a minute.

// @daberti: It is fixed now. Sorry for so many failures at your end, but I simply couldn't test all possible scenarios. :(

At the moment, motion background and title-thumb are restricted to 777 NTFS frames (~32.32 seconds). What you see is caused by the audio, which should be 32 seconds, too, but in your case it is much longer. The loop should happen after audio is out, then it should start again. Isn't it?

No it did not start again. I can reduce the audio to the 32 seconds, and see if that will correct the looping from not starting again.
Thanks.

It means that you can load your favorite DTS-MA/HRA or TRUE-HD album (or an album MP3/AC3/DTS/OGG/MP2/WAV/LPCM/MLP... etc :)) and create one AUDIO SD DVD.

That is in build 743.

Also, there is an option to choose HCenc 1-pass (VBR) in SETTINGS tab. It turns out it produces quite good results and is much faster (~2x) than 2-pass :)
Some other things fixed like (adding the 1st external subtitle track twice and a wrong log message about skipping a track, because it is too short)...
All okay now.

deank, I can confirm that the looping menu works properly now that I have reduced the audio file to less than 32 seconds. Very nice!
Is there a need or advantage to keep the HDAVCTN folder that is created, or is the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders all that should be kept?

deank
30th March 2010, 16:57
HDAVCTN contains the thumbnail pictures for the menu creation. In case you don't plan to re-use the structure you can remove the folder. Otherwise it greatly speeds up the authoring of a menu if you re-create the compilation using this (and other) folders/files.

Capsbackup
30th March 2010, 17:08
Ok, good to know. So if I want to run this same project again with some minor changes, but with the same menu, where should this HDAVCTN folder be placed or how do I take advantage of the increased speed of authoring the menu?

deank
30th March 2010, 17:31
When you import a multiAVCHD compilation there are two things that speed up its re-processing:

* multiAVCHD.mpf - the project file. If it is present all rescanning/checking will be skipped, since the information is already available in the project file.

* HDAVCTN - if present, when creating the menu, title and chapter thumbnails will not be extracted and the process is a bit faster. Still, menu needs to be re-encoded.

Dean

Capsbackup
30th March 2010, 17:46
I save the project, and I have saved the .mpf to my source folder. This is what I "Load Project" with.
But where will I save or where is "present" this HDAVCTN folder? Where is multiAVCHD looking for the folder?
It is part of the compilation of the new BluRay, but if I want to run it again with some changes, do I need to transfer/copy this folder somewhere?

deank
30th March 2010, 17:57
The project you save with [Save project] button is to be used when you want to re-do the compilation from scratch with the original files.

The project that is auto-saved in the output folder is different and is used for fast-import of already created compilation.

HDAVCTN folder must be present when you import existing compilation to utilize the files in it.

i won't to annoy you any more about the 32-sec-limit... sorry you realize many other great functions ...thanks again
one question: can i exchange the mx264.exe with the 32-bit x264.exe build 1510, because it seems to be fully blu ray compatible?

deank

I'll get to the 32second limit - just be patient.

No, don't touch mx264.exe. It creates compliant output, don't worry! If you want to experiment, replace x264.exe. Changing mx264.exe will cause all to fail with the menus, mark my words.

// Now thinking about it: you can't change mx264.exe... multiAVCHD will register the change and will not proceed :) at all.

SD DVD audio discs output should now work properly. There were some extra conversions, which weren't necessary so the latest update got some optimizations.

http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_SDDVD_AUDIO_TITLE.jpg

Also, it is now possible to open the [transcode] window for audio titles and select desired bitrate for video encoding (that is for SD-DVD output only), and thus using bitrate-estimation suggestions for better results.

My test was with a DTS HD (Master audio) album (~3GB) with desired output set to 700MB, and the final DVD folder was ~670MB which is acceptable.

Period.

You're making so many efforts and you're so talented!!

Your program will be able to grow only as long as we donate money (I do know that develpment tools and time do cost) and cooperate with our own sources.

Respect to your work is deserved, at a bare minimum.

I strongly underline that from now on every post of mine will have to be read by everyone as cooperation :thanks:

EDIT:
I wonder how many out there have an idea about mantaining more than 32.000lines of code.
remming the code itself just to remind what code has been written to what extent.
dealing with a layer of OS that is painful just to remind with the service packs, update to service packs, multimedia API and so on.
When I'm talking about talent and respect, I'm thinking about hours spent documenting yourself about this and command line switches of external tools, and about their bugs to be addressed maybe avoiding the usage of some of their switches....

:p It is fun adding features... It is the debugging/testing part which is not so pleasant and it is not about the donations (although it is kind of cool, too!)

There were a lot of updates today, so make sure you use multiUPDATE before you try anything.

Well all the free tools, which multiAVCHD uses are from talented guys/gals and without them multiAVCHD would simply be another tool (although a lot of things are done without external apps), yet each tool has its benefits and bugs - that's what multiAVCHD does - try all possible things (those you'd manually do for fail-rety-fail-retry). :)

Also, there is an option to choose HCenc 1-pass (VBR) in SETTINGS tab. It turns out it produces quite good results and is much faster (~2x) than 2-pass :)

NOW THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!

Oh, and as to the subtitles thing, what you said makes sense. The first 100 frames was purely credits and introductions, with no talking, so I can understand the subtitle problems.

Will test when I get home! Thanks again Deank!

We'll get there...

I hope all will go smooth this time :) Just make sure you have the latest build (which is timestamped 22:01 EET).

// The first 100 frames was purely credits...

The value in title-properties is in seconds and I hope actors didn't get to the talking part at least for the first 1 min and 40 secs. :)

Ah, I suppose that makes sense. I'm used to my cutting programs being in frames, but seconds makes more sense here.

P.S. I have updated the guide to reflect the fact that we now support multiple audio/subtitle tracks. I plan on tweaking it a bit more once I find some time, but it should be pretty good now.

Thank you for the guide you set. I took the liberty to add it at videohelp (http://www.videohelp.com/guides/converting-blu-ray-to-standard-dvd-using-multiavchd-id1174#1174). I hope you don't mind.

:) And a lot of other problems with SD-DVD should be gone, too.

Ah, so it was YOU who did that! I was surprised, because I normally do it myself, but I saw that someone had already beaten me to the punch.

Its no worries, Dean. Thanks for doing some of my work for me. ;)

@deank

In light of the fact that you have so many areas devoted to menu-related functions, for the sake of those who are either new to or infrequent users of multiAVCHD, perhaps you can put a big button on the initial leftside "page" labelled "Make Menus On/Off" - and if "Off" is selected, ALL related items on the "AUTHOR" and "MENU" tabs would be greyed-out.

This would eliminate doubt as to what has to or doesn't have to be addressed by the user (depending on what the user is attempting to accomplish).

Just curious, what is the difference between the update when multiAVCHD is run and the update using multiUPDATE?

deank

There is no difference, but when the build number is not changed and the .exe size of the new build is the same, multiAVCHD may not self-update. Using multiUPDATE just downloads the build off my site, unpacks it and starts it, no matter what your current version is.

Important update:

* Full download of multiAVCHD 4.0 now includes 32bit and 64bit versions of x264.exe r1510. (http://x264.fushizen.eu/)

* For compatibility reasons with HD-DVD output I'm keeping an older copy in tools folder (named hx264.exe) along with mx264.exe (which is used for encoding the menu pages).

* The number of playitems in each menu-page playlist is decreased from 500 to 98.

* A typo was preventing 1-pass VBR with HCenc - fixed now.

Dean

// @shearer69: Because it is just a label. Custom menus with templates are available for some time now.

I just accidentally deleted my Null-soft installer script :( Still the latest full-download which I uploaded is okay (without the fix for 1pass vbr with hcenc). You can update with multiUPDATE once you download the whole thing.

Open [properties] for a title. There is a button: [more] next to Menu page:... There you have [Load template].

Ok, I rewrote it and uploaded the proper full-version with all fixes. It is a bit larger than the one from yesterday, because of 2x7mb x264 32bit+64bit (~36MB total).

* The number of playitems in each menu-page playlist is decreased from 500 to 98.

Also playitem count is decreased to 56 (~30 mins of menu looping - it was ~5 hours before). I'm trying to figure out what causes crashes and problems with some players with version 4.0 menus - especially with some samsungs and panasonics. I'll appreciate feedback from users with such players, using AVCHD relaxed or Blu-ray output from multiAVCHD.

Stupid question: I encoded Black Hawk Down from Bluray to SD-DVD (1pass VBR at 6300kbps) and I scored a 7096MB output against 7996MB that were predicted.
Should I consider this as:
1)Ceteribus paribus 6300kbps is just overkill (in this case) as average achieved bitrate is fairly lower?
2)Final output dimension prediction for SD-DVD with 1pass vbr needs to be improved?

:Thanks:

EDIT: I remember form times of AutoGk that a test could be done about the compressibility of a video (better, a part of it taken as a test) given a bitrate/final dimension...do you think that the same could be done here?
