Here is the AVCHD resolutions test archive:
multiAVCHD Resolutions Test (http://rapidshare.de/files/41329234/multiAVCHD_Resolutions_Test.rar.html)
It contains:
AVCHD_1920
AVCHD_1440
AVCHD_1280
AVCHD_720
Rename selected folder to AVCHD and copy it to USB root or in PRIVATE of SD card. Start from title#1. It will show 5 second static images with resolution information in steps of 8 pixels.
This way you will know what your TV/PS/BD supports.

Thank you, nice programm I will give it a try.
But when if you already made a single AVCHD folder structure with multiAVCHD and I have a new movie that I want to add, must I go the process form the beginning? I mean is it possible 2 add a new movie in the excisting single AVCHD folder?
deank
12th January 2009, 15:26
Yes, it is possible to add. Just add your existing AVCHD in media tab.
I am not sure what will happen with the playlists - i'm still working on it.
I'm writing ssa->srt conversion to embed in multiAVCHD, so in next release later it will be available.

In brief for today's updates:
* Added AVC compatibility check for L4.1 reference count 4/9
* Added support for SSA (Substation Alpha) subtitles embeded in MKV. Now multiAVCHD will extract SSAs (with mkvextract.exe), covert to SSA and feed to tsMuxer.

You may try to see if tsMuxer and mediainfo work in MacOS environment.
I've tested mediainfo aswell now and it does work.

Finally after 5 days of waiting (stupid forum rule), thanks Dean for all your efforts on this tool! I can't wait until you can add custom titles and custom background images in the menu.
FYI I created a multiBD using an earlier build (116) with multiple AVCHDs that I know work fine individually with TSMuxer, and the Motion Top Menu is not supported with my Sony BDP-S300 player (firmware 4.3) but the Static Menu options works fine.
Edit: Motion Top Menu works fine with my Sony BDP-S300 player!

You will need to all the files (exe/dll).
Probably you will miss some, but let's see if it will work.

I'm glad to say it worked. I used just a short non compliant 1080p sample. I ended up with a AVCHD that played at the top have of the screen with the black bar at the bottom.
I just put the Mac exe in the windows folder and ran it from there.

I'll test some more during the next few days.

This is really great.
I updated first post with links to FULL/LITE PAL/NTSC packages and I put multiAVCHD_Mac.exe in, so you can download the full folder structure.
A little naming error for LITE versions - rars still named v1.3 but it is v 1.4 build 179.

m2ts files that used to work now get skipped. I also tried it with a AVC 1080 encoded clip with DD 2.0 audio so it should work. It just crashed the program and I couldn't get rid of it. I had to restart the computer.

You're adding m2ts files to media tab? .. or you meant MKV files get skipped... There is an option in Authoring tab (ignore mkvs with high ref count). Uncheck it.
What do you see in the log tab?

I am adding m2ts files not MKV files. They worked before but not now. The log saids txmuxer is skipping the files which is strange. The files worked and got a playable DVD using version 1.3. I don't have a log for the working versions.
The files are AVC 4.1 encoded and have DD 2.0 audio. I can run the files through TxMuxer myself and get a Blu Ray folder at the end.

This seems like quite a nice program, much more versatile than my crude bash-script (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=141173) solution! ;-) Nonetheless, I'm a bit pissed that you didn't give credit where credit is due, you could have at least linked the original thread with my script somewhere for all the non-windows-users! >:-( Also, a crossplatform solution (yes, even mine is, Windows-users only need cygwin! 8) would've been much appreciated, it's really not rocket science these days...
Anyhow, after reading the whole thread, here's my contributions:
-Panasonic AVCHD compatible TVs: I remembered there were subtle differences (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD) in the folder structure, maybe that's the reason it won't play?
At the file system level, the structure of AVCHD is derived from the Blu-ray Disc specification, but is not identical to it. In particular, known Canon and Panasonic implementations use old-fashioned "8.3" file naming convention, while Blu-ray discs utilize long filenames. Another difference is location of the BDMV folder, which contains media files. On a DVD-based camcorder the BDMV folder is placed at the root level, just like on a Blu-ray disc. On the HDD-based Canon HG10 camcorder the BDMV folder is located in the AVCHD folder, which is placed at the root level.[6] Solid-state Panasonic and Canon camcorders nest the AVCHD folder inside the PRIVATE folder.[7] Following a standard agreed upon by many still camera manufacturers, solid-state camcorders have a root-level DCIM folder for still images.[8]
-PS3 black screen AVC videos: Thanks for finding that info that it not only depends on ref frames but also the resolution! Now I finally know why I have some 1080ps with 5 ref frames that play and some that don't! ;-) The ones that don't are almost full size, the ones that do are cropped! Same goes for 720p, i have exactly one 720p that wouldn't play on the PS3, which is full 1280x720 with 10 ref frames. However, i also have one of 1280x544 size with 12 (!) ref frames, which does play. So i hope your app doesn't just go after the 4 ref frames for 1080 and 9 ref frames for 720 Level 4.1 spec, cause obviously the PS plays way more than that, at least if the video is cropped! ;-)
-Framerate issues: This has never been mentioned in this thread, but doesn't the AVCHD spec call for specific fps? f.ex. i was unable so far to get 25fps video AVCHD to play on my HDCP compliant monitor, it did work with 24 and 23,9 fps, as well as with 59,9 fps in 720p... But maybe that's just my monitor in combination with the PS3 (it's very cheap! ;-), cause I've seen 25fps stuff work at least with analogue HD-output from the PS3! Strange is that the AVCHD won't even start with my monitor connected, there's no sound or anything!
P.S: Great work on the top aligning of cropped video, getting rid of the green bars! That's nothing but plain awesome, now we can burn everything to AVCHD without re-encoding! Great idea, fixing the .clpi and clearing the framebuffer with a full-frame black video before the non-standard size! But: Didn't the PS3 also downscale to SD on AVCHDs with cropped video? Or does this only happen if the Y-res byte isn't set (by TSmuxer)?
P.P.S: I still think my menu gfx look more stylish! >;-P

I never used in any part any of the files provided in your archives. I do admit I got the idea from your posts and started all from scratch.
Your thread was kind of dead for couple of months, so I decided to move forward. I really got intrigued by the idea and decided to create application that most windows non-IT-skilled users will be able to use. At the end - the they are the winning party.
>:-( Also, a crossplatform solution (yes, even mine is, Windows-users only need cygwin! 8) would've been much appreciated, it's really not rocket science these days...
I'm not sure what you do mean. One user reported that a special build of multiAVCHD works under MacOS windows emulator.
Anyhow, after reading the whole thread, here's my contributions:
-Panasonic AVCHD compatible TVs: I remembered there were subtle differences (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD) in the folder structure, maybe that's the reason it won't play?
No, it is not the different structure. They have differently set index.bdm/movieobj.bdm and I'm trying to find how to decode these files.
-PS3 black screen AVC videos... [cut] ...i hope your app doesn't just go after the 4 ref frames for 1080 and 9 ref frames for 720 Level 4.1 spec, cause obviously the PS plays way more than that, at least if the video is cropped! ;-)
Yes, there is a general formula for calculating the ref count: maximum ref = 12582912 / ( width * height * 1.5) and it allows higher ref count for cropped videos. Everyone can test for himselft. That's why I added the checkbox [x] Ignore mkvs with high ref count. If unchecked only a warning will be issued but the file will be processed.
-Framerate issues: This has never been mentioned in this thread, but doesn't the AVCHD spec call for specific fps?
I created some avc files with 25p and had no problems. AVCHD specs show it shoud be supported.
Didn't the PS3 also downscale to SD on AVCHDs with cropped video? Or does this only happen if the Y-res byte isn't set (by TSmuxer)?
I always get 480p output if video height is less than 584. Another user reported that his TV doesn't switch down to 480p but stays at 720p while playing cropped videos. So I don't know... I need to test with another TV first.
P.P.S: I still think my menu gfx look more stylish! >;-P
I was never about graphics to start with, nor I am a graphix designer :)

First, excellent tool. Works on my Panasonic BD30 Standalone player. I used lite menu and the input files were your standard MKV shows in HD. Burned it to a BD-9 and used NTSC
A few questions though that I could not find answers to:
1) motion or lite type - what is the difference between these?
2) Is there a way for the actual episode titles (i.e. Heroes_S1E4) to show up on the menus instead of the generic Title1, Title2, Title3?
Here is detailed info on the titles I used in creating the Blu-Ray BD-9 disc:

I changed the first post of this thread and will also add credits for the general idea in the About tab of multiAVCHD.
Wow, thanks! ;-D It'd be totally great if you could add the information that it works in all Unix-shell-environments like Linux or MacOS X, so non-windows users know where to look... ;-)
I never used in any part any of the files provided in your archives. I do admit I got the idea from your posts and started all from scratch.
I never said you did, but even if you did, I wouldn't mind! ;-) I'm an opensource kinda person (though I simply refuse to put in 300kb GPL headers in bash-scripts! 8)
Your thread was kind of dead for couple of months, so I decided to move forward. I really got intrigued by the idea and decided to create application that most windows non-IT-skilled users will be able to use.
Yeah, i planned to make a GUI version, too. Problem is I have no clue how to code GUI apps! ;-)
At the end - the they are the winning party.
We shall see about that! >;-) Resistance is futile, you will be penguinized, hehe! ;-D
I'm not sure what you do mean. One user reported that a special build of multiAVCHD works under MacOS windows emulator.
Well, "crossplatform" as in "can easily run on Linux, MacOS and Windows"... If you do your UI work against wXwidgets or QT or GTK f.ex. and avoid using platform-specific APIs (DirectX, MFC etc) porting to other platforms is just a compile away! Some solutions even allow you to make executables for yours and the other platforms with a simple click, e.G. RealBASIC...
And no, running in an Emulator is not a real solution for most people, cause it always feels alien and doesn't integrate into their workflow. Besides: Why would you need a special version that runs in Windows Emulators? Isn't that the point about Emulators, to run stuff "as-is"? ;-) The ones I've seen run every windows program except for the ones with direct access to certain hardware (DVD-burner, GPU etc)...
I created some avc files with 25p and had no problems. AVCHD specs show it shoud be supported.
It does? Where? (http://www.avchd-info.org/format/index.html) I can only see 50fps, 60fps and 24fps!..
Anyhow, i always suspected my monitor to be the culprit. Will have to get a new one - or one of those supercheap 720p beamers I've been dreaming about! ;-)
I always get 480p output if video height is less than 584. Another user reported that his TV doesn't switch down to 480p but stays at 720p while playing cropped videos. So I don't know... I need to test with another TV first.
That's weird. There seems to be a lot of fishy talking/negotiating going on between the devices on a HDCP link, like said 25fps AVCHDs don't even play with my monitor, not even sound-only! I also blame this for that, who knows what evil mechanisms Intel integrated into HDCP?
I was never about graphics to start with, nor I am a graphix designer :)
Well, I am! ;-) Though my menu gfx weren't exactly hours of work! ;-D

Yeah, i planned to make a GUI version, too. Problem is I have no clue how to code GUI apps! ;-)Right... This is my second gui application. I'm more into other kind of programming. I'm using a simple environment - CalcIt (http://www.calcitapp.com/) - for creating the gui.
We shall see about that! >;-) Resistance is futile, you will be penguinized, hehe! ;-D
I used to use linux a lot since 1994. Things just pushed me in other direction.
It does? Where? (http://www.avchd-info.org/format/index.html) I can only see 50fps, 60fps and 24fps!..
You see 50i and 50p so it should be enough for 25fps. :)

Hi Deank, many thanks for this useful program!
I registered in the forum just for report bugs and ideas for the program.
I encountered a Bug creating a proyect with 4 titles:
-The first title as called "title 0" and this title can't skip or seek...(is the same title 1, but the player display "0")
-Title 1-4 are fine can skip and seek.
I think this bug is produced because the number of titles is "PAR Number".
When i created a proyect with 5 titles everything is fine (With the same espec in the Mkv's)
The specs of the MKV's:
Level 3.1
Res 1280x720
Ref frames 5
I running the program in Vista Ultimate x64

I have edited my post as suggested. And provided specific file details via mediainfo instead. I used NTSC.
It sounds like you answer the titles question often. You might want to put something in the first post about it so nobody asks again and mention that its something you are working on.
Also in case its difficult to implement, is it maybe possible in the interim to only create a menu with menu titles only shown for the total number of titles. I know that its probably difficult to do this dynamically, but a hack would be to bundle static menus created for one title, 2 titles, etc. And just use the correct static menu based on the number of titles in the build. You could maybe create these menus for up to 7 titles as I cannot image people fitting any more than this on a BD-9.
Or another option is to write a plain text file somewhere on the disc/storage target that has the log info and list of titles. Provided that is okay to do as part of the spec.
One more suggestion - can you remember or allow us to set a default/preference for the source directory for the MKV that we add. Makes it easier since do not need to keep opening the file dialog and going to the same spot every time manually.

[edit] I fixed in in build 192. Thanks for reporting it. Now it won't play/show Title#0.
...for better results always keep those both checked:
[x] Create top menu
......[x] Lite/static menu
I thought i've fixed this with Title#0. Player 'thinks' it is a menu - that's why it is not seekable. Still, Title#0 and Title#1 should be the same video.

@jfcarbel: Also in case its difficult to implement, is it maybe possible in the interim to only create a menu with menu titles only shown for the total number of titles.
Yes, it is possible of course. At least for the lite/static menu.

I think I can. But until then you can drag&drop your files to multiAVCHD application window. When you click the ADD buttons they should open the last used source directory - even after a restart of the program.

That's exactly the way I've been doing it in my shellscript (i have individual structures for 2 to 6 items). Well, that's atleast something where my solution is better, hehe! ;-D

Major version 1.5 (build 197+):
Menu will show only needed Title#s.
If titles are more than 5, you will have second menu page.

This is also in the first post.

Thanks, in this moment i compiling a new proyect....
Found a minor bug/issue:
-In the log displays "Compliant with 4.1 for 1280x720"
-The Mkv is level 3.1 no 4.1, maybe a problem with the h264info
Thanks..

No, it is not a bug. It is checking if current ref value is compliant with L4.1. It doesn't matter if your video is L3.1.
Make sure that you have the latest build #197+.

The problem with "title 0" is solved, many thanks.

I'm getting the error in the image attached, any ideas?
Hi Dean,
First I have the same problem with the _temp directory.
Second, it's much worse.
First, I have downloaded from your site the multiAVCHD_1.3_PAL_LITE.rar, copied all the files inside in a separate directory and used it like explained.
As I have a Topfield receiver, after having copied .rec files to my computer, I first use H264TS_Cutter v.111 to transform them in normal .ts.files and to cut all the unnecessary parts. It gives me a "clean" .ts.file.
Then, I use a program called tsMuxeR, which produces a true BD-structure with all folders needed.
Finally, I use your program.
So, yesterday I tried to make a test disk from 2 clips done as described below. It was quite instantly done, the player accepted the disk without problems. But I had the same clip recorded twice as Title 1 & 2, the second clip was not there.
Today, I have launched your program to make a real disk of 3 films. It told me that a new version was available, downloaded all files and made all as yesterday. But in the AVCHD directory, it was only one film,
Then, I re-launched the program, it downloaded some more files - and this time, it moved none of the films to the target directory, there were only the menu files.
Then, I tired to add .ts files.
And I received this message : Only first audio and video streams will be included...
And really, it was only one film inside!
Can you explain, what's going wrong?
Windows XP Pro, PAL.
Thank you in advance.

It won't affect the output. Just an error that TEMP folders cannot be deleted. It will be fixed soon.

Current version is 1.5.

You don't need this step, as multiAVCHD accepts TS files.
I received this message : Only first audio and video streams will be included...
Only first audio stream and only first video streams are used off of .*ts files.
And really, it was only one film inside!
Can you explain, what's going wrong?
I guess I can. Please PM/post your LOG file (from LOG tab).

Please check the log after you update to build 200. It should be more informative.
--- (earlier said...)
It seems tsMuxer did not process your second and third input .ts files. Try to load one or the other directly to tsMuxer and see if you'll get any output - and more important - tell me what properties does tsMuxer detect of your audio/video streams inside .ts.
You didn't use cut_start/cut_end in tsMuxer tab, did you?
At this point only AC3 audio streams and AVC/VWC1/MPEG-2 video streams are supported when importing ts/mts/m2ts files, tho not all are compliant with AVCHD standard.
Check if your second .ts file has AC3 audio or (L)PCM audio.

!@@#$%^&!!!!
You are absolutely right - they have the MPEG sound - I could not imagine, that the channel uses this, and a 2-way output!
And I had not used tsmuxer to cut, because files were cut before in H264TS_Cutter.exe - the only quick program, that allows to SEE the content.
Otherwise, why yesterday I have had a clip recorderd twice, and nothing for the second one ?
deank
15th January 2009, 23:28
It was not 'recorded' twice. It was just a glitch in multiAVCHD when you use 'no menu' option, so you had your first title dubbled as "top menu" and "first title". It was fixed earlier today. I guess your second title was not compliant, too.
xeniste
15th January 2009, 23:48
I will re-test it tomorrow.
But that time, BOTH clips were compliant - AC3 sound. By the way, I had never used "no menu" option - the greatest interest of your program is the menu!

When you click the ADD buttons they should open the last used source directory - even after a restart of the program.
I just tried the latest version and it does not seem to open the last used source when I hit add.
Cool. I see you added the feature to only display the number of titles needed on the menus. Thanks!
