Anyone know if the ps3 supports 852x480 resolution in an avchd disk?

Or do i need to re-encode it down to 720x480?

I looked around and it seems like its the resolution that dvds are encoded at (then they're downscaled i guess)

AVCHD doesn't support 840x480. So, yes, you'd have to rencode to 720x480.

Some players handle exotic resolutions on AVCHD ; my Sony 370 can play 960.540 on AVCHD, so maybe PS3 also does.
multiAVCHD will warn you about the risk of incompatibility but it won't refuse the file.

multiAVCHD will warn you about the risk of incompatibility but it won't refuse the file. Yes... but you can't call it AVCHD, since that's a standard that doesn't support those resolutions. So you could say "some players support odd resolutions" -- but they stop being "AVCHD" when it falls outside the standard. Since it does -- you have no assurance that it will play on any other player -- or that it will continue to work even on that player after a firmware upgrade.

JMHO -- but encoding outside of standards is a very bad idea.

Hi all,
I've been using multiAVCHD for about 2 years now and all is behaving well until a few days ago out of nowhere I kept getting "Transcode may not work if you see this message" in the title transcode settings window when I import MP4 files, most likely AVC or VP6/8 encoded video. Things started to get weird - whenever I transcode or access properties with said codecs, AVSInfo.exe stops working having caused by fault module ntdll.dll, tried x264.exe which crashes also with same module, I could preview with the preview button though. Since I found some Windows(7) files were corrupted, I went through a repair install.
Now multiAVCHD starts with AVSInfo crashing with this time AVIFIL32.dll (which I know the program needs for correct functioning), importing MP4s and accessing properties/transcoding would bring up AVSInfo crashing from AVIFIL32.dll, preview button goes in a never-ending loop of "stopped working" messages for avsinfo...

I have installed Haali Media Splitter and ffdshow before multiAVCHD and all was fine until now. I did not install anything new for the past 6 months so I'm thinking it could be a corrupted file somewhere. For now, I have uninstalled Haali, ffdshow and multiAVCHD, repair installed windows, reinstalled haali, ffdshow, and installed multiAVCHD on a separate physical drive. Currently I can correctly transcode DV interlaced (not progressive), XVID/DIVX and MPEG2. No Windows files are corrupted after SFC scan.

This is urgent because I need to transcode some out-of-spec video for playback on TV. Can someone please elaborate? Thanks in advance.

You should use another tool to transcode then load the re-encoded file in multiAVCHD just for authoring.

Yeah, using Sony Vegas now. Just wondering because multiAVCHD has cropping tools already and it worked well. Any idea if it's a codec/Windows module problem or is it that AVSInfo glitching up?

Working fine before and now I'll probably have to set up another OS for it to work again. By the way, since multiAVCHD can output 1080p@50/60fps, can anyone please tell me whether the Panasonic TH-P58V10 supports that? Thanks. (I've tried the normal 1080i 50 and 60 and both worked)

According to the specs on Panasonic site it does. I don't know if linking is allowed, but you can google the typenr. I assume you output it for Pana TV SDHC card?

Edit: Oops, it says it's for hdmi only. Not sure SD card will work then. Sorry.

AVCHDfreak

thanks von Suppé, i was a bit weary too about the progressive support on SD card because it only mentioned 1080p through hdmi, previously i tried 1080@60p once but it failed (says "file unreadable or unplayable"), maybe I did it wrong, it is a 2010 high-end model (which multiAVCHD requires for that kind of output)

von Suppé

Maybe it's a specification/bandwidth thing on sd cards for Pana TV. Not sure if it is only just because of progressive video.
Just for trying out you can make little progressive samples within AVCHD specs like 720p @ 50 Hz or 1080p @ 24 Hz. Mind maximum bitrates.
I remember creating something for Pana sd card for somebody, only not sure if it was for his TV or bluray player. I know it worked though.

AVCHDfreak
7th January 2014, 00:33
I'm trying 1080p@24Hz later, the trial with the file unreadable message was 1080p@50Hz, I think I'll need a SD card recorded with 1080p@50Hz by a camcorder to see if the TV's compatible with non-compliant AVCHD.
I've checked 1080p@24Hz on a PAL TZ20, it was recognised but unplayable due to differences in framerate (PAL vs NTSC), having a feeling that even if it could, the TV (PAL region) could only do 50p, 50i, 60i and not 60p.

yes i did, i tried compliant 720@50p AVCHD but it hasn't worked, might be the TV itself, thanks for helping anyway.

For 2 days, i'm trying to author a movie with Multiavchd but it always keeps subtitles on. Like embedded...
I cant shut them off dunno why.

Tried m2ts file to play with MPC and no subtitles present, no issues with the movie.
Just installed newest K-Lite pack 2 days ago and ofcourse blamed it. Then returned to old version i always used but the sum is same...

Any idea?

BTW, i disabled DirectVOBSub already...

You have maybe to change a setting in the subtitles tab.
And if does not work, there is still a solution ; change the subtitles properties with BDedit, after having exported with multiAVCHD.

Update: Tried several things beside format and for now, looks like normal (2D) movies returns good.
As for 3D, somehow subtitle issue continues.

Update 2: I think the issue happens if I use 3D IDX subtitle (Side by Side etc) but not sure.
I'll try with some dummy videos first...

Update 3: Nope, happens with sup subtitles too...

[17:37:27] tsMuxeR failed to process [E:\Public\Public_videos\_videos to do\myvideo\BDMV\STREAM\00100.m2ts]...
I have been through the reinstallation process several times for ffdshow/avisynth/haali.
The multiTEST tool tells me that ffdshow/avisynth/haali are fine.
The avisynth script runs well in MPC (and in VirtualDub).
I am trying to do a very basic job of transcoding a x.264/m2ts file with a smaller frame size and lower bitrate,
in the Blu-Ray BD-R/RE format. No frills, no menu, no subtitle, even no audio.
My original file was 1920 x 1080 and x.264 AVC encapsulated into m2ts. I typically requested a downsizing
to 1280 x 720 and a lower bit rate with different transcoding configurations: 2-pass HQ, 1 pass fast,
1 pass Turbo: No success.
Since it didn't work, I tried a video-only version of the file in a mp4 container and the same one in a mkv
container. Same error each time.
Assuming it could have something to do with x.264, I picked up a small mpeg2/m2ts clip and tried to
transcode it to a smaller bitrate. Same result.

I am frankly running out of ideas. Thank you for any help, it will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest using a much shorter path to the original file. With the additional info tsMuxeR tacks on to the filename, the total length of the path + filename maybe too long.

Thanks, I am trying that right now, but I corrected something that was probably the issue. I had kept x.264 64 bit checked just because my machine is 64 bit. But all my video programs run at 32 bit. So I removed the check mark and multiAvchd is now (finally)transcoding. It's gonna take some time...

When I enable FFms2 and 64 bit, avs4x264.exe and avisynth.dll crash. When I disable 64 bit, it can only transcode some of the MKV files I'm trying to turn to Bluray. I would prefer to use ffmpeg over directshow. What is the solution to this problem?

Update: I download FFMS 2.19 and it's working now.

Just FYI and I am still open to suggestions, but I spent a lot of time trying to build a 64 bit encoding chain based on avisynth and ffmpeg, without success. Primarily, I believe because of the lack of a good avisynth 64 bit solution.

First thing I would check if you can see something on TV, if there is no-disc inside. Most likely it would logo of manufacturer of player or similar.

Also check if your player support type of disc you have inserted. Example some player picky about file structure and some are picky about disc and some are picky about both.

Also can you post info about files using media info from files on disc, not from hard drive and post it here.

What do you mean by media info from disk? The disk plays fine in my PC with a BD drive and I can see the menu and choose the movie to play just fine. The Philips BD player works for everything else, even the DVDs I've burned. The player sees the disk as a BD disk, says so on the front panel, and then says menu. But there is nothing on the TV and the controls for the player do nothing.

Is your screen black, similar to when TV is off?

Also by menu which one you are referring. Menu created by multiavchd or player menu.

Also most player will not play AVCHD with menu on them. You need to check that as well.

Yes, the screen is blank, like when the TV is off, but if I hit the eject button the player menu pops up. I am refering to the menu created with the software. I have it set to create a top menu, carousel style, along with opo-up and title list. I'm not sure if this player will play the AVCHD menus. Is there a way to find out?

Just make an AVCHD with a short title and without menu, it will be created quickly, burn it on a dvd-rw then see if your player plays it.
Try also on a BD-RE (choose Blu-ray instead of AVCHD as export format, but you can also try a Blu-ray structure burned on dvd, it's called BD-5/9, it's compatible with some players).
Did you export the project as Blu-ray and not AVCHD ? If you chose AVCHD while it's burned on BD-R, it could explain why you player does not manage it.

Yes, the export was for Blu-ray. My guess is that I need a newer player in order to do what I want. This player is vintage 2010.

My particular player, philips BDP5012, says that it does not support BD-RE v1 or 2, and BD-R v1.0 recorded in BDAV format. Could this be the problem?

This reminds me of similar problems I encountered with a BD player. At the end it was bad media (don't know if I may advise brand names here). A pc optical drive being able to read a self-baked disk generally doesn't say much about a standalone player's ability to do so.
Maybe you can try your created disk in another standalone, like a friend's? As stated BD players can be very picky about brand / type of media. Maybe you can try out on one disk of another brand.
In my book, unfortunately maybe, Philips players tend to be rather selective indeed.
But maybe there's a firmware update for your player. I've seen BD players changing behavior significantly after a firmware flash. Maybe you want to check out the manufacturer's support.
And as far as burning concerns, I always use ImgBurn. I assume you burned with the right settings?

Cheers
