Yes, it will be possible to select audio/subtitles in the "SETUP" page, which supports selection of the first 6 audio and 6 subtitle tracks. It is not ready yet, but in few more days it will be.

I have backups, this is for testing so no worries. ill set the temp folder to the one you specified, thnx.

Edit: changing the temp folder didnt work, ill uninstall multiavchd and reinstall a fresh 729, i also will install avisynth and such again. ill try and test around some by myself.

thnx!

Edit: the version of x264.exe is the one you send me, last edited 26-10-2009, i dont know how to see wich version it is.

Here is a RC build for those of you who wish to test it:

multiAVCHD_730RC.rar (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar) (1.5MB).

Contains:

multiAVCHD.exe (3.1.730)
multiAVCHD.dat [03010730]

**************************
This version supports:

* 252 titles per compilation
* 96 chapters per title (8 chapter pages per title)
* 21 title-list menu pages (12 titles per page = 252 titles)
* 1 audio/subtitle setup page per title (252 total) (not available yet)
* pop-up menu for each title
* background audio for the main title pages
* motion background for main title pages
* motion title-thumbnail for main title pages
* all menu related files are placed above 80000 (80000.m2ts - 93552.m2ts) and playlists above 00251 (00252-00552.mpls)

* Importing, scanning and verifying titles is about 4 to 8 times faster in this build
* Scan/import shows proper playlist duration, in/out times, linked IGS/POP-UP streams and multiAVCHD now recognizes the type of disc as BDMV 1.1, BDMV 2.0, AVCHD 1.1
* Chapter thumbnail extraction is about 10 to 20 times faster now (extracting 96 chapters from a movie takes less than 30 seconds, compared to few minutes in previous builds)
* Menu page generation for static pages is also about 2 times faster than before + a static page occupies about 50 to 100KB (compared to 400-500KB in previous builds)
* PLAYLIST tab in TITLE PROPERTIES shows a lot of information about the current title/file/playlist
* SEEK precision in TITLE PROPERTIES is ~1 frame and < > will skip about 1 frame (in milliseconds, depending on your video framerate)
* Setting POSTER frame, CUT/TRIM END/START now have milliseconds precision
* Seeking to and adding chapters in TITLE PROPERTIES with + and - buttons is with milliseconds precision
* GUI speed is drastically improved when working with more than 50-100 titles
* BD-Reauthor mode will properly handle sub-path sub-entries (like PIP, secondary audio, etc) and will properly restore links to such streams in the mpls files
* BD-Reauthor mode will properly restore playlist flags, chapter/entry marks and Extended Information in BDMV v2 Blu-ray disc titles with Extended information segment
* Should a compilation run fails, multiAVCHD is now able to load the unfinished project folder and continue
* [full mode] processing of imported playlists/titles will use only the (correct) playitems from the main-path and in the CORRECT order (so no more strange errors when trying to mux menus/textST m2ts files into the main movie and getting wrong movie fragments)

* to import compilations from older builds (<730) remove/rename multiAVCHD.mpf and import the folder to allow full re-scan.

* multiAVCHD will properly utilize the contents of HDAVCTN folder when importing older compilations, although the naming convention is changed to MMMMM-TTTCCC.jpg where MMMMM is the FIRST m2ts file number for the title, not the one which the chapter was extracted from.

**************************

To use it you will need the LATEST FULL download of build 729. Create a backup copy of it and extract both files to overwrite the old versions.

A good idea is to remove the .ini file, too.

Things to play with are in AUTHOR tab and in MENU/General and MENU/Misc.

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_auth_730.jpg

[x] Add pop-up menu - this option was added in build 400 and later removed :) but now is back in the GUI and working. It allows fast access to next/previous title, the title menu, the chapter menu for the title and to the title-list menu where you can quickly browse to another title. POP-UP menu is not supported in Playstation3, unless used with Blu-ray output, burnt to BD-R/RE disc.

[x] Add title-list menu - You can use a title list menu even if you don't create main/top menu. The Title list menu will act as a top menu. In other words it is like another menu-style, which you can't customize (except for the number of tiles in the background). Should you decide not to use a menu (XMB/SLIDE/CAR) and only Title-list menu, it would take LESS than 2 minutes to create 21 pages for all your 252 titles. :)

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_menu_general.jpg

[x] Create chapter menu pages - up to 8 chapter pages x12 chapters will be created (8x12=96 chapter thumbs)

Chapter menu top/left defines the position of the chapter-list box.

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_menu_misc.jpg

Title list BG complexity setting has great impact on the speed of title-list-menu generation. The slider can be set from 0 to 12 and defines the number of small 'tiles' in the background of the menu. 12 means: 12x12=144 tiles for the left and 144 for the right = 288 tiles. You can see it in the pictures above - I posted one with setting 12 and one with setting 6. Use 3 to 6 for testing and to get it created faster.

Button coordinates are the default of the vertically scrolled menu (XMB). If you enable [x] Apply button position settings you can place each button wherever you want. The navigation will depend on the menu you chose (XMB will cause UP/DOWN to scroll and in SLIDE/CAR LEFT/RIGHT will scroll).

[x] Motion title thumbnail will work only if you use 'motion' menu and will animate the small title thumbnail, too (along with the background).

[x] Show chapter extraction - if disabled you will let multiAVCHD do its work, instead of showing you what it is doing. :)

Saturation / Brightness / Contrast / Blur options are applied to the motion background. Less saturation and more blur make the foreground clear and improve the overall 3D-like look. Steps: Saturation (0.0 to 1.0), Brightness (-15.0 to +15.0), Contrast (0.0 to 1.0), Blur (0 to 5).

[x] Use sound with navigation will make multiAVCHD use sound.bdmv in AUXDATA to play 'clicks' when you select/activate a button in Chapters menu and in Title List Menu. The option has effect only when using "Blu-ray" output mode.

XMB and SLIDE menu styles can be motion or static. Carousel can only be static at the moment.

Post back with any results.

Dean

edit: I found a bug with the pop-up menu, when applying it to existing AVCHD playlists. It is now fixed.

:) A lot of testers, eh...

***

I'll try to finish the "SETUP" page (audio / subtitle selection) and then I think of adding the feature to "GROUP" content (titles) - two levels for starters.

Before that, I'll activate the 'more' button in title properties, so each menu page will get the chance to be either 'static', 'motion' (defined by the settings in MENU tab) or defined by the options ([more] button). Each title will have its menu properties saved in the project file, so the next time a menu is created, it will need no set up.

Few things left like custom audio and custom video, but I won't proceed unless I get more feedback anyway.

Have found the first bug, I think. When using the fit-all to a dvd-5 size (4480) it oversized by quite a bit (4898), this is using the Car menu with motion menu. It was probably due to my using multiple clips.

deank
3rd February 2010, 00:59
It is not a 'bug', nor if it was it is the 1st one :)

FIT-ALL works in 90% of the time... If your compilation has HD audio in any of the titles it can oversize...

418MB is a lot... I had no time to add checks for the new motion menu and the space it takes (usually 15-16MB per title). How many titles did you have?

Dean,

What suppose to happen when I select and press on Title List option? It does nothing for me. JVC player shuts down by itself, and PS3 jumps back to the main menu.

:) A lot of testers, eh...

It's your own fault. You've spoiled us.

I have only used MultiAVCHD for a month or so but I can't convey how impressed I am with your project.

MultiAVCHD ranks up with XBMC (Xbox Media Player for original X-box) and Tytool (a utility to extract video from dual-tuner Tivo satellite boxes via network to MPG2 files and edit them, then produce video files or generate/burn DVDs). The Tytool guy was brilliant and relentless, your efforts remind me of him a lot. Those were happy times.

MultiAVCHD is one of a very short list of groundbreaking video hobbyist programs.

You know, I love the free software and donationware thing but you should consider selling your project to a software company to market and promote it and develop it further. You should be proud of your work and there's nothing wrong with making money off it.

:) Thanks, but I would like to keep the 'magic' of having multiAVCHD as a tool for all of you who helped developing it.

I already rejected offers from 5 or 6 big companies. It is just much more fun having it (multiAVCHD) as it is at the moment.

***

@cwh060: The encoding of the main menu page failed (this is what your log shows) - that's why it is not working. I changed the x264 used, so re-download and try again.

@kabanero: Do you have [x] Add title list menu option enabled in AUTHOR tab... And please report the problems with logs.

***

Btw, for all who want to continue with the tests - re-download (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar)the archive. I fixed few things about the motion menu and the pop-up. Also when positioned on the last thumbnail in the chapters menu or in the title-list menu, the RIGHT button will take you to [X] button. Fixed a bug with setting audio/subtitle LID to UND/Other.

There are still few glitches in title-list and chapter pages - sometimes the bounding/selection box will go to places where it shouldn't. I'll get to it tomorrow. The main-menu pages should function 100% properly now.

Also, should generation of the first top-menu page fails, multiAVCHD will fall back to setting title-list menu as 'first-to-be-displayed' top menu.

hi all

first of all, the progress of this program since i came back online a month ago has been amazing and i solute to you deank...

now, i finally bought myself a nice big fat external hdd for backing up my bluray collection but i've found myself having no idea what to do...
i loaded up my Gamer movie disc and backed it up to drive but when i am adding it to multiavchd it is adding it twice for no reason.
i let it slide, put the remuxed folder inside my Fat32 partition but when i am plugging it to my PS3 it wont show any titles under the USB section.
i also dont understand what the structure suppose to be for it to work....is it X:\AVCHD\BDMV or X:\PS3\AVCHD i am kinda lost. :)

thank you so much for keeping this beauty working

EDIT: NVM, it worked, only 2 issues i must ask about: 1. for some reason when i add the movie folder it adds the movie twice. 2. does BD-J brake when playing a bd off the hdd?

deank
3rd February 2010, 23:25
You click "START" then select "PLAYSTATION 3" and after it is done you copy the output folder (AVCHD) to the root of your USB HDD. If for some reason the folder is not named "AVCHD" you'll have to rename it to have

X:\AVCHD\BDMV\INDEX.BDM where X: is your USB HDD.

Dean

edit: You can't 'backup' BD-J titles to USB or DVD to be played in PS3. Playstation3 will play such discs only if burnt to BD-R/RE. Sony removed the feature 2 years ago :(

Probably your movie has 2 playlists (different versions/alternate endings) for the main movie. Go to "PROPERTIES" and remove one of the playlists.

Do you think that in the future, the pop up menu - since it seems it can't be on two levels (pop-menu out of pop-menu like the commercially authored blu-rays) - that the pop up menu could show above the present blue pop-up menu bar, just in plain text, the listing of all the tracks available (or all chapters, when one track) and the audio and subtitles versions available for the track currently played ?
so that we could select them from there without living the programme currently played.

Thanks

Do you think that in the future...

No.

background audio option user defined is disabled ?

Yes. This is a test version, which lacks testers.

I updated the RC build (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar) - all navigation in main/title/chapter pages works as it should. LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN navigate the selection box more intuitively and properly.

dean,

I will try this latest version. I have had lots of problems trying to create a slide type menu with motion. I can't put my finger on the problem as the program either halts (ie windows must close) or it continues on showing an ETA of 4hrs plus to complete and I must halt it.

I had one creation go through to the end. When I played back on PS3, it would show 1sec of the top menu then go black. The sound continued to play, but nothing was on the screen.

I have download the latest RC version and am trying all over again.

While writing this, I see it's doing it again, the eta is counting upwards past 2hrs. Looks like I must halt/stop.

What would help you diagnose this problem, since I will probably be halting it again?

Had to halt again, looking back at my logs, it's always getting stuck at the same spot, menu creation. Here is my most recent log, the last 4 look identical.

However, when I played back in PS3, I could not control anything. There was no cursor, or ability to navigate. The motion worked, but I had to use the PS3 menu to stop playback.

Yes.. there seems to be a problem with Playstation3 :( I just tested it now and got the same problem (no navigation boxes).

Re-download the archive...

Also I was able to trick the Playstation3 to use the POP-UP menu :) using USB/AVCHD and I'll add it later.

I already rejected offers from 5 or 6 big companies. It is just much more fun having it (multiAVCHD) as it is at the moment.
Great, great work Dean, many thanks ! Maybe You should not give Your "baby" to a company but make it shareware. You would deserve more money for all Your efforts.

Tried again, slide menu with motion, this time using the full length videos, (each is 51mins & ~4g) again I had to halt/stop the program. It was showing an ETA for completion of 3hrs52mins. I've never actually let it go all the way through, maybe I should?

Is there a way to limit the number of chapters multi makes? Is 12 equal the only way? With my source being 51 mins, it's making 25 chapters, I really don't need that many. 4 or 5 would be good.

A motion menu page generation takes about 3 to 5 minutes (sometimes 10)... It takes a while to start, but then it should complete within a reasonable time.

use the option [x] Show spawned tools in SETTINGS and see what is mx264.exe doing.

About the chapters - you can set them in "PROPERTIES"/"Chapters"... Enter the desired chapter count and click 'AUTO'.

There was a bug in the POP-UP menu, which is now fixed. All buttons work properly. The POP-UP also works in Playstation 3 via USB/SDHC when clicking the [VIEW] or SQUARE buttons (not the pop-up one).

Have in mind that the pop-up is 1920x1080, so it won't show if your video is 1280x720 or 720x....

You can re-download the RC build. (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar)

use the option [x] Show spawned tools in SETTINGS and see what is mx264.exe doing....just sits there and does nothing. Screen has some commands, but it looks to have halted.

I tried agan with full files, Slide menu and Motion, left it to process for 1 hr and when I came back home, had to stop multi...eta was showing (...)

Bit at a loss of what to try next, think I'll try XMB instead of slide menu. If it halts this time, I'll capture the a 264 screen shot.

Good news bad news!

Good News - The full files processed properly in XMB menu, the project went through to the end in 8mins <=excellent. Log attached.

Bad News - PS3 playback. The motion menu starts then freezes (title 1). It plays back about 1/2 sec then stops, navigation seems to work fine. Moving to the next title 2, the playback starts for 1/2 sec, then screen goes to black. The navigation (blue highlight) is the only thing on the screen.

Must have been typing when your last RC candidate was release, I will try agin using XMB again.

Please post your log in your message, otherwise it needs a moderator to approve the attachment.

Still I can't replicate your troubles. I have encoded more than 50 compilations with motion menu and all work fine.

It is something related to the encoding process with x264 and avisynth.

Here is the log, everything looks fine to me.

I have the most recent version of x264 from your earlier posts. I can replace again, if we think it will help. Everything works fine with Static menu and partially works with XMB motion menu. I'll snap a pic.

You log shows that menu encoding is done in 20 seconds, which is impossible. I'll test now again to see if I broke something.

Are the x/y positions on the menu tab for "Play" "Setup" "Chapters" and "Title List" backwards? "Setup" "Chapters" and "Title List" should have the same y but different x values.

EDIT: I see how these values can be true with XMB menu. I was specifically referring to Carousel menu.

I don't understand your question... These are just coordinates - put whatever you want. To use the values you entered, enable [x] Apply button positions settings option.

Have in mind that the pop-up is 1920x1080, so it won't show if your video is 1280x720 or 720x....
Even if the resolution is set to 1080p in the player's setup ?

I don't know ALL players. PS3 will switch to 720p and it is not visible. Anyway, I prepared 720p pop-up menu to be used with 1280x720p titles, so it will be okay.

And what happens if we put 720p videos and 1080p videos on the same disc ?:D;)
I ask it because I guess there is one pop-menu resolution by disc.
PS3 will switch to 720p and it is not visible.
Do you mean that the PS3 doesn't let you the choice of the resolution and that you cannot upscale 720p to 1080p ?
If yes, a test would be nice to know if the pop-menu appears when you set the resolution to 1080p.

No.. there are 2 (or three if I make one for 480i/576i).

I just tested it with 2 titles 1920x1080 and 1280x720 - each uses its own pop-up (although they look the same) and both show okay :)

Cool, amazing !
I edited my message after your response, there is another question.:o
But after what you said, I guess that even if the resolution is set to 1080p in the setup, the 720p video will automatically "call" the 720p pop-up menu which will be upscaled in 1080p by the player.
But it's not easy to say if both pop-up menu resolutions are on the disc.

I prefer writing the code for multiAVCHD than speculating what a player would do. I know what PS3 does and it is enough for me. Either way the pop-up will be visible.

When I find a user to test and report the result I'll know more.

Unless there is a difference between the different pop-up menues. For example, its resolution written discretely on it.

A pop-up menu for 480/576 resolutions is a good idea.;)

Of course there is a difference... it is not just x/y and width/height - the whole image for the pop-up is RLE encoded to fit the screen.

Stay coooool.
I don't understand this reaction, my question is logical because many people use MultiAVCHD to make compilations with different resolutions.
And it was only the continuation of my previous question that you answered nicely.:o

As you said earlier, you chose to make a free program with donation system to stay free and also (I guess) to stay closer of the users who help you to make it evolve.
Thus, don't be astonished if we make suggestions and if we dare you ask some (punctilious) questions, especially if it concerns a new possibility of your program.

I'm not programer and i'm not supposed to know what you know about your program.

I meant a visible difference, just to know if we are looking at the 720p pop-up menu upscaled in 1080p when we look at a 720p video on a player set on 1080p.
But it's not important, I'm maybe too curious ...

You misinterpreted the tone of my message I guess :)

Still, I'll repeat that I have no answer to your question since I can't test what you ask for. If you can - do it and you will know (and then I will know).

I'm not even sure if Blu-ray players will up-scale 1280x720 to 1920x1080. Most probably they will switch HDMI to 720p (which is the correct thing to do).

As I said, I don't mind your questions, but I have another 20 like yours and I have no one to ask for an answer.

I think you like to ask unnecessary questions. The man already said that each resolution has its own pop-up, not upscaled, not downscaled. It is not a studio software, to create a menu from scratch with given elements, all is preset.

l.e. "Most probably they will switch HDMI to 720p (which is the correct thing to do)." - deank put it a whole lot better that I would have.

Hi Dean,

I've been testing static XMB menus so far on a Sony BDP-S350.

Navigation on the main menu works fine. The chapter menus are a nice addition as is the background sound. Let me know when the user defined option is available.

The pop-up menu appears even though I am using 720p video.

I had a list of pop-up menu problems with Chapters/Title List and Title Menu not working but your last RC appears to have fixed that.

The only issue I now see with the Previous and Next title buttons is that it cycles through the main menu also. For example, if you are on the first title and select previous title, you are sent to the main menu. If you are on the last title and select next title, you are again sent to the main menu.

I'll see how the motion menus are working next. I had some compilation problems last night.

Keep up the excellent work!

dean,

I can report the blank screen is now gone with the latest release candidate. The 1/2sec motion menu is still evident.

As you stated, the menu is not taking long enough to create, it's still the same with this rc.

The pop up menu is a cool additon on PS3!
