View Full Version : multiAVCHD - author Blu-ray/AVCHD (Blu-ray players, camcoders, Viera TV) + (HD) DVD

They were original and encoded (with BD-RB) HDMV menus. Neither would play in magnavox\phillips, samsung or panasonic player with a red laser. multiAVCHD menus do though, which I can't quite understand. HDMV menus I would think would be the first step in 'converting or fixing' with more complex BD-J menus hopefully later on.
edit: Could it be the set stream calls in retail menus that are the difference or the popup type menus?
Other than that I can't see retail menus being any different then multiAVCHD menus on the surface but it probably gets deeper then that.

multiAVCHD menu/structure works with almost all players because it follows strictly the AVCHD standard and all players should support AVCHD playback using optical media (red laser DVD).
On the other hand - original BD files are not supposed to work when burnt to DVD - but it seems that in most cases it is firmware restriction of the player, not inability to process such files.
Is there any chance that you upload the whole BDMV folder without the m2ts files (but leave only menu m2ts files)?
---
There are setstream commands in multiAVCHD output, too. And pop-up menus are just menu pages, so I doubt this is the problem.

@deank
will it be or is it possible to have more than 2 menu pages?
until now there are 28 titles possible displayed on two pages,
and the rest can be accessed by remote control, at least for ps3...

It is possible to have 2 or 3 more pages for a total of 36 or 40 titles but I need to reprogram the title editor page as there is no space for more than 2 x 14 text labels. I may do this when I have the time, but most people would rarely use it...

No, there is no limitation of how many menu pages will be used. However there is a limit of the number of buttons/navigation placeholders that can appear in a single menu page and they cannot exceed 15 (I don't remember the exact number but I think it is about 15).

I ma getting this error ''video height not AVCHD compliant (480/576/720/1080)! Final output may be disrtoce'' is there any solution?
my avchd is closing by himself , only the mac version is working
deank
25th February 2009, 17:21
You are using REALLY old version - that's why it won't start.
Go to first post and download the latest.
The message about height compliance is not an error but a notice. At this point nothing can be done.

Yes - make sure "YOUR" movies are of compliant resolution 1280x720 or 1920x1080.

Once on the subject with menu pages and title count I was thinking if most of you will like a XMB type menu navigation and a way to scroll thru all media items, just like PS3 does it in cross-media-bar (XMB). There will be much more space for title names (and bigger font of any choice) along with options to display video type/codec, video duration, thumbnails, date and time, subtitle presence, audio type/codec/channels, video resolution and anything else.

This looks like an interesting program and I am now trying it out. But have encountered one small problem which is PS3 rather than this program related
The only spare drive I had around is a 80G 2.5" formatted NTFS. Of course the PS3 can't see that so I partitioned the drive into 3 two 32GB and the rest. Formatted each partition FAT32
Then copied a AVCHD folder into one partition. But the PS3 can't see it - it just sees a generic name for the drive, not three partitions.
Next created only one partition of 32Gb and copied the AVCHD folder onto it. This time the PS3 sees the AVCHD folder and plays the content fine.
Next formatted the rest of the drive as NTFS creating another logical drive on it. That worked out pretty well. The second partition can be seen in Windows okay but because it's NTFS the PS3 can't see it - it only sees the FAT32 volume and still plays the AVCHD folder.
So perhaps a good strategy is to dedicate a drive for playing HD content on the PS3, creating one FAT32 partition and NTFS for the rest. Then keep copies of all your content in the NTFS partition and just copy across the folder you want to play.
[edit]
Just to provide some additional data, the file I was putting on the drive is a direct copy from a BD of the main title of a movie. It is 24Gb in size with DTS HD Master audio. When I play that in the PS3 (I haven't actually checked what happens when one of the m2ts file ends) and press next chapter, it jumps seamlessly to the next chapter. Nice!
[EDIT]
Ignore the above. FOund out that if I format a drive FAT32 using a 3rd party utility to overcome the 32Gb file limit, you can have all kinds of folders on the drive but if there is one called AVCHD with content appropriately formatted, the PS3 will play that content.
That's nice since it now means I can have all my movies in separate folders named appropriately and when I want to play one, just rename the folder to AVCHD.
As a feature request, another possibility is to stuff a bunch of titles into one folder so you can choose from the menu. Is it possible to add movies to an existing AVCHD folder or do you have to add them all again? If not, that would be a really cool feature since you would have one folder and keep on adding movies as you acquired them till you reach the title limit.

A quick note... AVC1 video codec supported now in MOV files (not working always tho) and proper "Content Provider" setting in AVCHD/BDMV index header.

There was a user in your forum with that Drag&Drop error. Please check previous pages of this thread - the problem is with WINDOWS DEP (data execution prevention). It needs to be set to windows essential programs only or when set "to all" then multiAVCHD should be added as an exeption.

Hi Deank
I wanted to create a BluRay disc with approx. 56 movies. And I wanted to use the "custom menu" feature. (No thumbnails)
I've read on your homepage that only up to 40 titles are supported:
Up to FOURTY (40) different folders will be processed, 999 m2ts/MTS files supported. [...] fourty different titles (movies/folders) - each could contain multiple playlists and video streams (m2ts/MTS).
After creating a disc with those 56 movies, I looked at the *.m2ts files for the menu, and could find the two showing title 1-14 and 15-28. Since I don't have my BluRay burner right know, I cannot test it on the PS3 anyway.
My question is:
Do you plan to extend your software to allow more titles?
Thanks for all your work!

Yes, I'm currently rewriting multiAVCHD so in some of the next builds it will be more flexible and won't show these 40 titles if less are used. I'm not sure if there is a restriction on title count but I guess I'll find this out soon. And with the XMB styled menu I plan, navigation will be much easier when more than 7/14 titles are used.

Hi Dean, I've used MultiAVCHD previously to make discs with a 'custom' menu before, but it's been a while. I've noticed since that time you've changed it completely(for the better obviously LOL), When I tick the 'custom menu' box, it jumps to the log where it has added an entry 'avisynth and x264 encoder not working properly'. I have avisynth installed, but am unsure where to get the x264.exe from, I've downloaded one from the 'net' to no avail.
TIA, Dave.

Download the complete package from the first page. If still got problems, reinstall avisynth. I used the opportunity to upgrade to 2.58.

And it is good to use x264.exe that is included in Setup_multiAVCHD_v2.4.exe (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/download.php), not newer/older versions.

Tried the x264 in the multiavchd folder(build 420) and fixed the original error, but get the 'x264/AviSynth output unexpectedly small or missing!' error instead. It creates the AVCHD folder ok, just no custom menu.

The answer is probably buried in this thread somewhere but after trolling through I couldn't see it so please bear with me.
I created a number of AVCHD folders, each with one movie in them. I entered a specific name for each folder and asked the name to be displayed. All well and good. As each file is named AVCHD and played on the PS3, the title of the movie is displayed.
I then tried to merge a number of these separate folders into one folder. Using the AVCHD folder option, I pointed the program to the root directory where each of the various AVCHD folders were stored. The program correctly identified each as being valid and after some processing created a new folder with all of the individual folders aggregated into it.
However when I play this on the PS3 all I can see on the main menu is Title #1, Title #2, Title #3 etc. which is hardly informative. I must be missing something somewhere on how to specificy the actual video name for each title
Thanks for any pointers

I may add an option to remove welcome screen. At this time this intro is the only "credit" option left for this freeware program.

A minor update (build 421): Players will show proper title count instead of 40 (when using jump/go to title)
My primary update server is still down, so when you update it will give you error on 1st mirror url but then will download the update from the second mirror.

Okay, I am ready here to test the Panasonic SD playback on standalone Panasonic BD player :)
It turned out that I did not have the right card, but I have invested in a new reader/writer that supports SDHC and purchased a 8GB SDHC Class 4 card.
I wanted to download the test files that were posted in another post in this thread, but it looks like they were removed.

How much Space/Filesize in MB are taking the Menus from multiAVCHD ?
Because i have to calculate the Bitrate for a few x264 AVCHD encodes and i dont want ot give to much Bitrate because i want author them later to AVCHD with Menu via MultiAVCHD
Is there a minimum and maximum Filesize for Menus with one or MultiTrack AVCHD Discs?

You can do some tests yourself and check the size of all m2ts files with filenames from 1200 to 1406. Usually just about 5MB.

There is probably an easy answer to this question but I haven't been able to find it. Once you have created a AVCHD folder with a number of titles in it, can you remove titles from the folder without having to go back to the original source videos? It's easy enough to add them - just not sure how to delete them.
Thanks
