Good news. I managed to port my idea from Corel Photo-Paint into .avs script. Here how it looks in MPC :)

...when I am faced with re-encoding several individual episodes (to h264 using x264), how I would determine what size to re-encode to, in order to meet an output target e.g. DVD-9 (actually BD-9)? I was thinking perhaps the way to do this might be to import all the "full-sized" episodes, look at the Output size and observe a % oversize, then use that % for each episode to establish a target size for my x264 two-pass re-encoding.
I'll share my method for calcultaing overhead for my DVD9 that include h264, with either DTS, AC3, DTS HD-MA, and TrueHD...
Thanks odin24; this is the kind of practical advice I was looking for.
Wouldn't be easier to use Ripbot for that purpose. I assume that one stream audio is enough for you. My formula is very accurate. Ahh One more thing. Don't forget to leave extra space for multiavchd menues.
In fact while I use custom .CMDs for my encodes, I use RipBot264 exclusively to determine bitrate--extremely accurate, thanks! But the new issue here is overhead for a menu.
I need to install and "get my feet wet".

multiAVCHD menu pages are small and their total size can be max. 40 titles x 546kb = ~ 21MBs and if there is a welcome screen or some fade transitions - up to 23MB, so reserving 25MB for multiAVCHD menus should be okay.

Thank you Deank for your great job.
I would like to know if the "Panasonic SDHC output" will soon be developed. I have a Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-ray disc Player, and if you like I'll be ready to test this fonction.
Thanks again.

Just a small fix in 483 - filenames won't be converted to lower case when importing in multiAVCHD.
drpaulng
26th March 2009, 10:46
Many thanks to the fix of lower case thing.
I have tested with precise chapter points that co-incident with I-frames insertion. Then, I discovered 2 things:
(1)For 1080i videos, the chapter jump delay of (1-3sec) is still un-fixed (player: PS3, both through USB-flash memory and BD-5).
(2)When I re-encode the 10801 videos into 720p videos, the chapter jump delay is all gone.
When I authored with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4, however high the bitrate with its mpeg2 outputs, no chapter jump delay is seen. Then, I replace the mpeg2.mts with AVC.mts (which breaks the pop-up menu but preserves the proper menu), there is still no chapter jump delay. So, with these observations, I think there must be some subtle differences in the algorithm of handling chapter points during BD authoring that would affect the final playing with PS3. Because I have no other stand-alone BD players at hand, I could not draw definite conclusion on the "black screen" of up to 3sec during chapter search for PS3. At least, I can say, imprecise chapter point assignment has no big effect on 720p videos authored with multiAVCHD.

It seems that I need to repeat myself again and again.
multiAVCHD is NOT a video encoder and has NO control over I-frames, chapter-entry-points, etc. There is nothing to be fixed in multiAVCHD.
If you have your own AVCHD structure with files, containing proper chapters then it will be okay.
Of course I can completely remove those stupid chapter thumbnais or the whole XMB style menu that gave me so many headaches and complaints from users and then everything will be okay, too.
TMPGEncAW4 always reencodes to mpeg2 and that way it can create anything it likes. Also it is not free and much slower than multiAVCHD interface and processing wise.
I did not create multiAVCHD to compete with or to try mimic any other application and I created it for myself and for fun. I'm putting a lot of energy in it with the limited resources I have (such as time, specifications, etc). After all I think it turned out to be a really helpful application to a lot of people, despite its looks and feels.

For some time I'm transferring old video material (video mpeg2 with Dolby Digital 2/0 audio) to BlueRay Disks.
Since approx. 3 days I'm encountering the following problem: Video and audio are not synchronous any more; after 60 minutes, audio is ahead by some seconds. I do remember of having similar problems with a separate tsmuxer earlier, but never with multiavchd. And I did not change my settings for multiavchd (Keep all audio tracks). The log is showing that an AC3 track is added. Why this and why is the original source file modified at all?

The original source is not modified. multiAVCHD gets information from mediainfo and passes it to tsmuxer.
Did you update to the latest tools? What versions of mediainfo and tsmuxer do you have? The problem could be caused by the new versions of mediainfo/tsmuxer.
Is there a chance to send me the output of mediainfo on one of those problematic m2ts (or mpeg) files?

Hello,
Today, when I start multiAVCHD, I obtaint this error message :
"Incorrect BASS.DLL" => BASS 2.2 required
Have you any idea about this error ? (Bass audio dll ? or dll from .net package or windows) ?
deank

I have no such file on my system (vista32). It is not a part of multiAVCHD and has never been. The only DLL required is calclib.dll. Did you install/uninstall applications or change your windows properties? You can redownload the complete Setup again and overwrite your old multiAVCHD folder.

Sorry for my wordings - I mean "unfixed by me" even if I put the chapter table at points co-incident with the I-frames, I still could not get an instant chapter jump but black screen of delay for about 2-3sec with my PS3. (I presume chapter jump needs to be co-incident with I-frame insertion and chapter points not at I-frame position could cause jump delay). For all the trials I made, I could only conclude it might be related to the buffer memory within PS3 for instant chapter jump because 720p videos seem to be all right with those authoring by tsmuxer and multiAVCHD. I assume 720p videos need less buffer memory for decoding. Sorry that I stirred up some unneccessary misunderstanding for Deank. I never think it is a bug of multiAVCHD in the beginning. I need to clarify my logic by stating what I did. We all appreciate so much for you great work that saves lives (from drowning in the deep sea of re-encoding). Cruiosity could kill the cat.

I've found the solution.
I've shootdown power last day, and a windows file dll have been lost.
This file is Bass.dll (normaly in Windows/system/ folder), I've reinstall the missing file and no error message now.
If another guy encounter same problem one day, you can download this free dll and copy on Windows/system/ folder (not system32).

Problem: asynchronous audio:
I have the latest multiavchd package. I don't know if that uses new versions of mediainfo/tsmuxer & latest avisynth258.
Where can I find the requested output of mediainfo?
My analysis has the following result: The m2ts file is in fact different to the source file. The difference is in the audio, although I requested "keep audio tracks'. I think that by this setting the original Dolby Digital 2/0 audio should have been left unchanged. Obviously, a transcoding (to AC3) was initiated although the box was not checked to do this.

If you have the latest package it means that the tools are also updated.
Yes, the m2ts file will be different because the original is re-processed by tsmuxer, but no audio is re-encoded. If the input file (m2ts) was a part from AVCHD/BD structure it wouldn't have been changed. No files can be added by multiAVCHD if not first passed through tsmuxer. Folders are not processed by tsm.
DolbyDigital Stereo/II/PL and AdvancedCodec3 are one and the same.
You can uncheck 'delete temp files' and check your temp folder for .txt files... something like mediainfo or mi-....txt.
Another thing to try is to REPLACE the tsmuxer.exe in tools folder with an older version: 1.8.18 for example. If you don't have it - here is a link (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/tsmuxer.exe).

Okay - this is different. Your input file is MPEG-2(PS) (mpg) not MPEG2(TS) (m2ts). Of course input and output file will differ a lot. I never had success with my mpeg files that I captured from TV, but I always thought that it is because of the MPEG L2 audio.
Try with the older version of tsmuxer or just use tsmuxer alone and see what will happen.

My post in tsmuxer thread:

FYI - New version of tsmuxer
I needed to use 35(b) to process a new BD structure that had lots of seamless branching. When I used 1.8.18 I got lots of re-synchronizing errors on the DTS-MA track (one for each file branch.) The audio and video got progressively more out of sync as the file played back.
The new 35 version of tsmuxer deletes the extra audio overlap parts and made a perfectly synced Video/Audio with no extra steps.

26th March 2009, 20:37
Then you can use it... It is user's decision, I won't support nor comment any posts with problems which may arise using it. And if you really knew what 35b does you wouldn't recommend it either.
And I don't see a new version. I'm sorry to be mislead by user who suggested to update the tools to newer versions. You don't "fix" something when it works fine.

Can you somehow implement then you choose XMB thumbnails ..numbers of chapter default is set to i think twelve ( there might be a way to choose but it's eludes me)... If you have eps of a 25min you will have blanks chapters, a couple of totally black and 2 errors can't create in the making process..

When you import files to multiAVCHD you can set your own chapters.
Example:
test_movie.mkv - this is your video
test_movie.txt - this file contains the chapters in format:
00:00:05.000;00:00:10.500;00:00:15.350
so you can put your chapter marks and restrict thumbnail count

I added some test support for AAC audio in MKV/MP4/MOV files. Also a small fix for AVC1 videos in MOV/MP4.
Add files/Drag&drop now supports MP4.

hi, dean or other users
i already have a few movies coded in AVCHD format, and they're on my USB HDD and works fine with AVCHD manager
say i have folders /movie1, /movie2, ...
after i use multiAVCHD, does it just add /AVCHD to the USB HDD and keep original movie folder untouched, or it has to re-write(code) all movies?
since i keep adding moives to my collection, i want to know how exactly multiAVDHD handle AVCHD format folders
thanks
