l.e. "Most probably they will switch HDMI to 720p (which is the correct thing to do)." - deank put it a whole lot better that I would have.
Not with my player which upscales everything in 1080p (because I chose that in its setup), that's why I was asking this question.
I think you like to ask unnecessary questions.
I disagree ...
Until now, the pop-up menu was only available on Blu-ray Disc, and they are in 1080p (i'm not sure that pop-up menu is only available on 1080p video but nearly), and it's the reason why I find the idea of deank to make it in other resolutions particularly interesting and innovative.

You misinterpreted the tone of my message I guess :)
(...)
No problem ;), english is not my mother tongue and I may sometimes misunderstand the tone of some sentences.
And I know that your work is not easy at all.

Alright!:D
Motion menus with motion thumbnails works fine on the Sony BDP-S350!
I get the Windows No Disk exception dialog box early on when the menu pages are encoding. After clicking continue a few times processing continues and the compilation completes fine.
I don't think it is related to the new software although it didn't happen before with multiAVCHD. Has anyone else had something similar happen?

The only issue I now see with the Previous and Next title buttons is that it cycles through the main menu also. For example, if you are on the first title and select previous title, you are sent to the main menu. If you are on the last title and select next title, you are again sent to the main menu.
It is supposed to do that. When you're playing the last title which one is the 'next'? (and when playing the 1st, which one is the previous?)
The error you get with 'no disk' is related to thumb preview (mplayer). I found a way to overcome this, but today I had no time to add it to the RC build. I will tomorrow.
I can report the blank screen is now gone with the latest release candidate. The 1/2sec motion menu is still evident. The pop up menu is a cool additon on PS3!
Make sure your PC can play/process avc m2ts files. Open a m2ts file in multiAVCHD and go to transcode and see what will happen... Also, the motion menu works only with videos which are at least one minute long.
Since a lot of other people do not have the same problem I'd suggest that it is something (and I don't know what) at your end.

Make sure your PC can play/process avc m2ts files...yes, no problem, I use mpc-hc64.exe to playback, sound and audio are fine.
Open a m2ts file in multiAVCHD and go to transcode and see what will happen... I imported one of the MTS files which multi created, went to properties and pushed transcode...result is the file attached (M2TS.JPG)
My videos's each are 51mins long. I have also attached the Stream folder output from multiAVCHD (M2TSFiles.JPG). As you can see the 80010.MTS and 80020.MTS files are 1200 & 1500 kbs, kinda small (I think). Opening them is the same playback seen on the PS3?

A motion menu m2ts should be ~ 15MB... I can't see the pictures you attached but I also can't say anything about the fact you're using 64bit OS.
Try to 'transcode' a m2ts file with multiAVCHD and let me know if it transcodes okay.
There are too many things to fix and I don't include your failures as a bug yet.

Ok, that's fair enough.
I'll try a transcode and see what happens, I'm sure it will be fine. I use BDRB quite often after multi, and I've had great success. I saw the post about not enough testers and thought I'd jump in as I have PS3.
Thanks again.

Well.. you should see something in your log... or your PC is unable to decode the video (m2ts files)... I'm kind of tired repeating this over and over again.
This is a TEST BUILD... so please use 3.0.729 if you want to create a working compilation and if you're not here to test 730RC.
TO ALL: If you can't get the motion menu working it means that for some reason your PC can't properly decode each title's m2ts files and convert segments of them to h.264/avc with x264. I can't help you with this since it is working on my computer and I'm using the same configuration for the last 14 months.

It is supposed to do that. When you're playing the last title which one is the 'next'? (and when playing the 1st, which one is the previous?)
I realize that the menus are also titles (parts is parts) but I thought that the navigation would loop through the imported media files from first to last and vice versa and that the Title Menu would be the way back to the main menu.
The error you get with 'no disk' is related to thumb preview (mplayer). I found a way to overcome this, but today I had no time to add it to the RC build. I will tomorrow.
That's good to hear. I was worried I might start having Windows problems.

Success. XMB and Slide
TO ALL: If you can't get the motion menu working it means that for some reason your PC can't properly decode each title's m2ts files and convert segments of them to h.264/avc with x264.
Here is what I did.
Removed, Haali, FFDshow, AVSSynth 2.8, multiAVCHD, cleaned up all extra files. Restarted Ran CC cleaner, removed left over files, restarted again. Downloaded everything and started from scratch. Installed everything back.
I suspect it was actually x264, even though I thought it was the latest. Downloading multiAVCHD again reinstalled the proper one. The clue was forcing a transcode, X264 would halt part way through, if it processed anything longer than 5mins.
:thanks:

The updated build (http://multiAVCHD.deanBG.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar) now supports pop-up menu for 720p and 1080p. I'll appreciate if someone can test if 720p is properly shown in regular SAP players (DLynch?). Playstation 3 works with both perfectly :)

I don't know ALL players. PS3 will switch to 720p and it is not visible. Anyway, I prepared 720p pop-up menu to be used with 1280x720p titles, so it will be okay.
Now I'm getting seriously tempted to give the RC a test drive.

I wanted to test it, but there's a problem ; my player (Panasonic BD35) doesn't want to play the disc ! It's an Avchd (dvd, not BD) and it's the 1st time I have this problem.
I had already burnt these files with an older version of Multiavchd and there was no problem.
Another problem (maybe logical) : I chose some big files (1080p) which are on a partition nearly full, and there were not accepted by MultiAVCHD because of a problem of codec. But as for the other files, I had already burnt these files with an older version of Multiavchd and there was no problem. I was in front of my pc during the process and I saw that there was no place anymore on this partition (2 Mo !), thus I believe that these files were rejected because of a lack of space on the partition where they were. If that's the reason, I didn't know that Multiavchd needed place in the partition of the files because the temp folder is in another partition with enough space.
I chose 5 files : 2 in 1080p, 1 in 720p, 1 in 480i, and 1 in 576i (to test the pop-up menu on all resolutions).
After the rejection of the 1080p files, I've seen in the log that the pop-up menu resolution was 720p.
Last thing : i saw in the log that my PAL file was slowed-down for the NTSC compatibility. Usually, i can put all resolutions on the same disc without any transcoding. And "auto set transcode for non-compliant titles" was unchecked.
But my player cannot play this disc, i don't know why.

Now I'm getting seriously tempted to give the RC a test drive.
:) 1080p, 720p and 480p pop-up menus will now appear for different resolutions. (the .rar is updated again... there was a bug when importing old compilations, which already have pop-up menu, but m2ts files were not transferred).
I wanted to test it, but there's a problem...
I'm sorry but this is no way to test... 100s of problems with your settings won't help me at all.

1st: Select the proper TV system in AUTHOR TAB.
2nd: what is this 'multiAVCHD rejected my 1080p files'...
1)I chose Ntsc because on 5 files, 4 are in 23.976 or 29.97 fps, and 1 is in 25 fps. As I said, I can usually mix files with different fps (23.976, 25, 29.97) and MultiAVCHD doesn't transcode any file and there's only a warning to prevent a potential problem with the player that could crash because of the mix of 50 and 60 hz on the same compilation, but I do it anyway because my player switch without problem between 50 and 60 hz.
But today, the Pal file was converted to Ntsc.
2)I mean that he kept only 3 files on 5 during the authoring process.
this is no way to test
I don't understand, you said earlier that you wanted us to test this new version, that's what I tried to help you.

1) Please use PAL TV system.
When PAL is selected, multiAVCHD will not do any speedup and you can have the mix untouched (unless you enable [x] Apply PAL speedup for NTSC content).
2) Because you're doing/reporting things that are not related to the new options in multiAVCHD.

I just want to test your pop-up menu on a standalone player, as you asked above, what should I do to test it ?
I'll appreciate if someone can test if 720p is properly shown in regular SAP players
Do you mean that we should put only a 720p file on the disc and nothing else ? Because there is a 720p file in my compilation but not only.
I tested again choosing PAL TV system, and my player still can't play the disc. I never had this problem before. He sees well it's an AVCHD, but he can't launch it, he stops. Then i click on play or on top menu, and agin, he can't read it.
I chose AVCHD for optical media and burned it in UDF 2.50.
The only time I had this problem is when I tried the Blu-ray output in place of AVCHD output with TSMuxer. And there was no difference between the two projects : it was the same file without menu in both cases. I believe it means that my player cannot play BD5/9.
Thus I wonder if you are sure that you didn't do anything wrong concerning the AVCHD output for optical media which is maybe outputed as a Blu-ray and not as an AVCHD ?
Good news : As I suggested earlier, the problem with the 1080p files was only due to a lack of space on the partition where they were. I made some space and they are now accepted and outputed.

I tested again with only one file in 720p, no top menu, no title-list menu, just the pop-up menu, and my player still can't play the disc.

The updated build now supports pop-up menu for 720p and 1080p. I'll appreciate if someone can test if 720p is properly shown in regular SAP players (DLynch?). Playstation 3 works with both perfectly :)
I tested this with a static XMB menu. The pop-up displays with 720p video however it is shrunken to about 1/2 the former size and is offset 1/2 way up the display and justified to the left. I think this makes sense since the location roughly corresponds to size of 1280x720 as it relates to 1920x1080. Both my TV and player will upscale to 1080p.
*** edit: I just tested with 480p pop-up and it works in PS3, too. The quality of the pop-up is comparable to 720p and 1080p. If pop-up menus with different resolutions are not needed for standard players, but for Playstation3 only, then I'll make multiAVCHD select the proper one only when using [Playstation 3] button.
I would prefer to have this option PS3 specific. The pop-up looks odd offset as described above.
I would assume that most BluRay players perform upscaling to 1080p but I'm not 100% certain. I also don't know how this might affect playback sticks directly into a TV.
Curiously, I got the Windows No Disk error again even though static menus were selected.

I would assume that most BluRay players perform upscaling to 1080p but I'm not 100% certain.
It depends maybe on the player, because I know a precise example : the Oppo BDP-83 can output several resolutions at the same time without that one must go into its setup. I mean that dvd can be outputed in 480/576 i or p, Blu-ray in 1080 i or p, ... it allows to make the upscale of the dvd with an external scaler without downscaling Blu-ray. And I don't know what he does with AVCHD containing several files with different resolutions.
In my player, there's only one resolution at the same time : if I choose 1080p in the setup, everything (dvd, avchd, blu-ray) will be outputed in 1080p. If I choose 480/576p, everything will be outputed in 480/576p, even Blu-ray ! That's why I chose 1080p.

I came back to build 729 to make a test, and it worked perfectly ! It proves that there is no problem with my disc-burner-player.
There is probably a problem in build 730 with the AVCHD output for optical media.

After some compliation tests with 730 build,
few remarks :
1- IF font size used for "play / setup / chapter / title list" labels is changed the according buttons are not aligned correctly.
2- Atually for RC build, the motion menus are only created with extraction sample of title video. With the final version can we choose a custom video and audio for each title (in title properties like as "image poster" option).
3- What is the original values for Chapter menu (x/y) for center position ?
4- for the "chapter buttons" opacity, can you fix the opacity value without relation with the other button ?

Did you use files or existing compilation? Also - try with disabled [-] Add popup menu.

3) the coordinates for all buttons are just coordinates... i can't understand what users are asking for really... 1-1920/1-1080... the default it is (453, 720), so you can change the coordinates in MENU/General and see for your self.
4) No

Latest .rar has the popup generated in 1080p, except when Playstation3 output is used.
There is [x] Shutdown when finished option in the window for output selection (the one after you press START).

Try without a menu first and without pop-up... if it works, try with a menu. pop-up is not supported in AVCHD anyway.

It didn't work either with only a top menu.
Thus it only works without any menu in AVCHD for optical media mode with build 730 (in any case on my player).

AVCHD is not the same as 'using DVD media'. + the sony player you have plays virtually everything (almost like the PS3 does).
Which player do you have ?
Mine is a Panasonic BD35.
I did a lot for all the Panasonic users around the world already (with all the specific things required for these players to play off of SDHC) and if anyone reported earlier that 730RC it is not working probably I would've never started with the motion menu. I posted samples few weeks ago...
I guess Panasonic users which burn to DVD and want menu would have to stick with version 3.0.729. It is a stable and fully operational one.
(late edit: on the other hand I may add back the old in-stream-mux IGS menu so we'd have 100% backwards compatibility... it will take some time and KB space but it is not impossible. I need to have the current test_build version bug-free first)
Version 3.1 (which will probably turn into 4.0) features out-of-mux menu generation, which is much better and compliant (in Blu-ray and Playstation 3 output modes). Panasonic SDHC and Viera (PAL/NTSC) do not support menu anyway, so it leaves out the output for "AVCHD compatible players". Most should work with the new menu-muxing technique... Panasonic seems not be among them.

4- for the "chapter buttons" opacity, can you fix the opacity value without relation with the other button ?
I'm sorry, but I was overwhelmed and answered while thinking of something else.
Yes, one can change the color and opacity for all pages individually (main/top menu, title list menu, chapters menu and setup/audio/subtitle menu). As I posted few days ago, I'm trying to add all the features and then I'll work on the GUI - there you'll have the things you asked for.

I made two other tests with v730 checking the "skip top menu" button ;
-it works with only a top menu (the first title is played and also the others) but of course, my player stops when I click on "top menu" on my remote
-it doesn't work at all when I add a pop-up menu.
It looks logical.

Thank for the answer, it's great.
I'll make few others test with this RC build to test players compatibility and wait the final version for test all authoring functions and return reviews.
Last question about elements coordinates (x/y) values :
For each element, what is the original "zero" point value ?
- It's the center (960;540px) of the 1920x1080 srceen reference ?
- Or 0;0px (topleft corner) ?
N.B : I ask this question because, is more easy for users to create custom menu background in graphic editor (like photoshop)

Chapter menu and button coordinates are absolute values (not an offset) - I decided that it will be easier when creating backgrounds in external programs not to use relative numbers.
The offset for the main title thumbnail is relative to the centered placement, which is not the default in XMB (you can see that the thumbs and the texts are in the center of the area, not to the left as they were before). If you change the offset for the main title it will affect the button coordinates, too.

The updated (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_730RC.rar)archive with the test build now has the option to [x] hide "SETUP", "CHAPTERS" and "TITLE LIST" buttons. If you hide a button, but the corresponding page (chapter or title-list menu) is generated you'll still be able to access it via the POP-UP menu.
Also if chapters or title-list menu is not generated, the buttons will not be present.
...and there is a new option [x] Create audio/subtitle setup pages in MENU/GENERAL tab, but it is not fully working yet (the page is half-generated and the navigation is not ready).

A test of the pop-up menu on a 480i/p (or 576i/p) video would be very nice. ;) I mean without upscaling, to see what happens.
