If you always get the java error - just remove the subtitles so they won't be processed. Anyway they probably are useless.
If you can - please post a screenshot of the java error.
Are you saying that if the DVD is read from the DVD drive there are no errors and when the DVD is on your HDD - there is one?

But this time it kept going to audio encoder. That is what I want it to do every time.

Hi!
Yesterday, you postedYes, 667 will be out in few minutes including HD-DVD output with uncrop/reencode option.I've just used one of the links you've provided to download the "most current version" of MultiAVCHD - and it's devilishly indicated to be v.666 ;>}
Am I correct in presuming that, in fact, v.667 (with conversion to HD-DVD capability) has not yet been made available?

Yes, I delayed it with a hope we'll figure out the hd-dvd compatibility with toshiba. I'll upload it now.

Hope someone can help me, I'm trying to use a .jpg for a custom menu but when I hit 'preview' the background image looks weird, almost black and white but with a greenish tinge. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might need to do in order to have this in proper colour?

An initial attempt to add HD-DVD output to multiAVCHD in build 667/668 (may require full download (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/download/)).
http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_output.jpg
HD-DVD output may be enabled only if you mark a title for reencoding/uncropping in Title properties / Uncrop menu.
Requirements:
Unrop should be 1920x1080, so you need to select the proper resize option to width of 1920 pixels.
Frame rate should be: 23.976 (leave to original if your video is already 23.976)
[x] Set for HD-DVD output should be checked. (Latest build of multiAVCHD will try to set all Resize/Uncrop/Frame rate options once you tick this option)
More about the discussion around HD-DVD with setarip_old: here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=140459&page=9)
Output for HD-DVD from multiAVCHD contains these 2 folders:
VIDEO_TS
HVDVD_TS
setarip_old's suggestion (which works in Toshiba A3 HD-DVD player): Burn both folders in the root of a DVD5 or DVD9 disc using Imgburn in data mode with UDF 2.50 file system.
Take a note of the bitrate settings and bitrate suggestions. For a full-length movie of 100mins (1h 40min) bitrate of 4500-4900 should fill DVD5 HD-DVD disc, and bitrate of 8000kbps (which is the max allowed) should be ok for DVD9 disc.
Usually keeping the original (displayed) bitrate should do the trick.

Hi Dean,
Just updated the app after a long time of non usage due to the fact that I'm outstation. Now I'm having trouble seeing the whole window. Maybe my screen resolution is too low by today's standard (1024*768)? I can only see up to the "Break" and "Load project" buttons.
Anything I can do over at my end, can't change the resolution of my screen though as I'm still on CRT and that's the sweet spot for my monitor.

Just move the title-bar a bit up off screen and you'll see the bottom 2 buttons. There are 'abort' and 'save project' buttons, which you may not need. You can perform "save" from within title properties, too.

In order to first determine whether the basic HD-DVD requirements are met, thusfar, I have downloaded ONLY the .RAR containing the two previously missing tools and have installed them in the "Tools" sub-directory.
Thusfar, I have mixed results to report regarding the overall concept (Use a 2 minute M2TS clip of "Cadillac Records"):
1) The program properly re-encoded video
2) For some reason (as reflected in PowerDVD onscreen information), the program down-converted the audio from DD5.1 640kbps to DDPlus 5.1 384kbps
3) The program properly created the HD-DVD files and folders (I think the "ADV_OBJ" folder will prove to be unnecessary, since all HD-DVD "packages" created in this manner will be of "Standard" nature, not "Advanced")
4) Played properly (from mounted .ISO) under PowerDVD
5) After adding a "VIDEO_TS" folder containing a blank .VOB to the "package", burned (with IMGBurn) as UDF 2.50 data disc (Burned one with and then one without the "ADV_OBJ" directory - Identical results)
6) Toshiba, after recognizing the disc as an HD-DVD, generated an error message, "Unable to play disk" (NOT the earlier message of "Not a compliant DVD")
I'll try to test a couple of more clips, including MKVs, and advise you of the results.
I'll get back to you on your other comments/observations/questions in the last couple of posts you made to the other thread.
BTW - Have you determined whether a FULL video is properly processed as HD-DVD by your program?
deank
2nd August 2009, 21:40
1st) So far the largest one I tried is 200MB, but I'll let it convert a 100min material and let it hddvdmux.
2nd) My program is multiAVCHD and it guides other tools what to do. It doesn't process nor mux things (execept the menus, the authoring part of blu-ray/avchd output, the SD_VIDEO output for Panasonic SDHC and lots of other things, not related to HD-DVD).
Does multiAVCHD produce both VIDEO_TS and HVDVD_TS folders? You shouldn't need to do anything after the HD-DVD-**** folder is created.
Please make sure you have the latest build (668) and just to make me sure it is ok, execute multiUPDATE.exe.
* Let's be on the same page. If you have the ADV_OBJ folder then it means you didn't do what I asked.
* If you don't have the VIDEO_TS folder produced by multiAVCHD - then you didn't do what I asked.
* If while re-encoding you see "Ref frames: 3" - then you didn't do what I asked.
Can you try with 5-10min clip?
Audio conversion (bitrate) is set by the value in Muxer&Audio - Non HD audio to AC3 - it is used for HD-DVD, too - so change it to 640 if you want.
One thing I changed is the ref-count setting for x264, but I doubt it will affect the outcome.
And, at the end - which video exactly were you able to play in your player?

More "good news/bad news"
1) I was mistaken when I said, "The program properly created the HD-DVD files and folders" - Using 667 plus only the two tools, the program doesn't generate the required .BUP files.
2) After adding the .BUP files to the conversion (to HD-DVD) of a 2 minute clip of an MKV ("Invincible"), the Toshiba happily played the burned disc perfectly.
3) After adding the .BUP files to the conversion (to HD-DVD) of a 2 minute clip of an M2TS (Cadillac Records), the Toshiba, while acknowledging it as an HD-DVD, still rejected the burned disc.
My sense is that the difficulty may be audio related and/or size related ("Invincible" 68Mb, "Cadillac Records 121Mb) - more likely audio. The following excerpts are the audio-only related items of the two logs (All video information in the logs was identical).
GOOD - "INVINCIBLE"::[12:56:53] Detected frame reference count: 2 (max:4).

**EDIT** I guess you didn't se the very first line of my previous post: In order to first determine whether the basic HD-DVD requirements are met, thusfar, I have downloaded ONLY the .RAR containing the two previously missing tools and have installed them in the "Tools" sub-directory.
Now that I have seen that the basic HD-DVD requirements have been met, I'll d/l and install 668 and proceed from there.
Referring to "your program" is simply a matter of convenience in typing. If and when I should type "your program" again, please take it to mean, "Your GUI and/or its underlying programs" ;>}

More bad news, I'm afraid:
After once again down-converting the audio of the 10 minute "Invincible" clip to 2 channel stereo, after apparently successfully processing both video and audio, a Windows error message popped up:hddvdmux.exe has stopped working. There were some changes, related to AAC audio, which I can see reflected the AC3 encoding for HD-DVD in build 668. You can see that in your first attempts (with 667) audio is 1st processed with mplayer+avisynth then ffmpeg and then it worked for you, but in 668 it somehow doesn't.
So I guess that's the problem. I'll take a look at it.
edit: Use multiUPDATE and try again with the MKV sample. There was a bug with the ac3 audio processing for hd-dvd. And m2ts - processing goes fine and I don't really know what can be wrong. Just give the mkv a try first and then the m2ts.
When you open the Uncrop menu - do you see a preview of your video? mkv and m2ts processing in multiavchd take different routes, so it will be good to know that at least one of them works. And you have the VIDEO_TS generated, right?

Christ, MultiAvchd's output folder's contents are deleted when you start a new project!
I had the mkv file to process in that folder and the program deletes it then tells me theres no files to process!

Sorry, but things seem to be going backwards regarding success. Both builds 668 and 669 failed to properly convert two 2 minute clips, "Invincible.mkv" and "aCaddy.m2ts", that were previously successfully processed by build 667. Yes, I selected the red highlighted HD-DVD format after clicking the "Start" radiobutton. Yes, proper HD-DVD folders "ADV_OBJ" and "HVDVD_TS" are created (I can't tell if you've added automatic generation of BOTH .IFOs and .BUPs). Builds 668 and 669 appears to have MORE problems with audio conversion (which shoudn't be necessary anyway) than build 667.
Can you modify things for HD-DVD format only, so that the audio is simply extracted from the clip and used directly for muxing (for my purposes, the source audio will almost always be .AC3)? Perhaps doing so will eliminate the apparent problem that presently exists regarding audio.
Subsequent to build 667, have you done anything to address the the inability to deal with clips of longer (e.g. 10 minutes) duration?
Here's the log from "Invincible.mkv":

Since I have not witnessed a single failure (at least not like yours) I'd ask you to upload the sample so I can test with it.
multiAVCHD tries 4 different ways to encode the audio and if it works for blu-ray and avchd and if it works in my configuration (and in many other)... what then... And - no - I can't make multiAVCHD just demux the audio, because you'll have 'most' of your video files accompanied with AC3.
And it seems that there is an audio track passed to hddvdmux. So if it fails you can try yourself simply muxing your encoded .264 with the .ac3 audio you will demux from the sample.
I'll spend just few more days on this subject, and since we have like ~8 hour time-zone difference and 1 interested/testing party progress is just too slow for me to continue. I did too many changes in multiAVCHD already. My tests with any resolution, any codec, any framerate and any audio (including dts, ac3, mp3, mp2, ogg) processed well and muxed fine in hd-dvd. @deank
I'm guessing we've both devoted too much time and effort to this - You with your programming efforts and me with so many tests (I've only posted a few of the logs, since problems were duplicated many times).
My, and I'm sure other interested parties', primary concern/desire regarding HD-DVD capability is that I would like to be able to use either your GUI or "HDDVDMUX.EXE" directly to convert complete AVC/.264 +.AC3 .M2TS files to an .EVO file plus the requisite .IFO and .BUP files for playback on a standalone HD-DVD player (In my case, specifically, a Toshiba HD-A3). If need be, I can always modify the audiostream to one that's accepted by your GUI and it's underlying programs for proper processing.
While I sincerely appreciate your efforts (as I'm sure others do, as well), you've not addressed/replied to this absolutely critical concern, which I've raised several times:Subsequent to build 667, have you done anything to address the the inability to deal with clips of longer (e.g. 10 minutes) duration? In my opinion, without a "fix" for this, further efforts will be futile for both of us.
A funny thought - Perhaps "Undead_Sega" can clearly explain how he/she has purportedly been successful regarding convering full length videos to HD-DVD format ;>} (Although his/her postings indicate that such files have not been tested on a standalone player).
If you should choose to pursue the full length video aspect further, I'd be happy to participate in further testing. If not, I'd sincerely and warmly thank you for your efforts thusfar...
Don't know if I've previously mentioned this but, I use a system with 64 bit Vista Home Premium for video work such as this...

I'll try to let a full movie to encode. Length has nothing to do with hddvdmux capabilities (at least what I learned from reading its source).
While I do this (tonight) please post the sample of invincible, so I can give it a try.
edit: Full movie encode is running now (movie length 1h 40min)

please post the sample of invincible, so I can give it a try.Forgive my ignorance (I'm not joking, I've never done this) but, how do I post the sample?
Also, as I asked in the other related thread, what's the build number that does not require re-encoding of .264 files? The latest I'm aware of is 669, which doesn't appear to have that capability...
Is there possibly a compatibilty problem with 64bit Vista?
**EDIT** Is there a maximum allowable filesize for uploading?

If you have your own server place the sample on it, otherwise upload the sample to one of the file sharing hosts (mediafire, rapidshare, etc). In either case, because a 2 minute sample exceeds the definition of fair use (at least as interpretted by the broadcast industry) send the link information to deank by PM, not publicly.

1) Since all of my intended source material is/will be BluRays compressed by "BD Rebuilder", I'd ask you - Is there anything inherently different in such .M2TS files that would account for the anomalous behavior I've been experiencing with builds newer than 667?
2) Why is it that build 669 no longer refers to "Avisynth" when converting audio?
deank

Here is what happened:
1) I ran a full encode of a video 1h 37mn 25s 632ms
2) hddvdmux successfully muxed the encoded/uncropped video to HVDVD_TS folder with size of 4GB (exactly according to my x264 bitrate setting in UNCROP window).
So 1920x1080@23.976 100min video ~ max bitrate of about 5200-5500kbps + 640kbps 6ch AC3 fills up a DVD5.
Good news is that it splits output EVOs to 1GB chunks:

3) Nero showtime plays the movie ok, except that instead of playing 01:37:25 it stops at 01:37:17 (so only 8 seconds from the end missing). To overcome this glitch, multiAVCHD will (in build 670) add 10 seconds at the end of the clip (using the last frame), so when/if the output is cut nothing will be missing from the original footage.
And back to your questions:
1) No - there is no difference if your source will be m2ts or mkv.
2) Avisynth is not used because it is not needed. There were few logic-errors in multiAVCHD, causing it to fail in some cases (yours included) - sorry about it.
3) The build that accepts .264 or .mkv or .m2ts or any file without reencoding ONLY if encoding parameters are correct is 669 and a log message is shown:
[10:06:51] File is encoded with HD-DVD compatible H.264 settings:
[10:06:51] movie.264
[10:06:51] Loading external audio: (und) - movie.ac3
Still, you need to update to 670, because some errors were introduced in 667-669, which caused all of your failures. Testing with any build <670 is a waste of time.
There are a lot of multiAVCHD users with Win64, so I don't think it causes the troubles.
edit:
@setarip_old: Update to build 670 and give it a try. A lot of things are fixed now (including some bugs which definitely affected your compilations).
I did another 10 tests and all seems to be okay now. Here is a sample of reusing the .264 file from last night's encode. multiAVCHD accepts it and uses it without re-encoding. hddvdmux takes about 7-10 mins to mux 4GB evos.

1) I'm pleased to let you know that, overnight, I used build 668 to successfully process the entire "Cadillac Records" .M2Ts of approximately 1 hour and 48 minutes.
2) Absolutely nothing was cut off at the end.
3) Unfortunately, there was a gradual desynch throughout the movie, starting with (apparently) -0- desynch and growing to approximately 7+ seconds by the end. I had all audio conversion choices set to "640" and wonder if this might have been the cause. I'm re-doing it, using build 670, with all audio conversions set to "448".

Audio async could've been caused by a bug (or may be not). Let me know if 670 makes any difference (and post your log for a last time). I didn't notice any audio problems with the movie I reencoded and hd-dvd muxed. It may also be caused by the 'forced' 23.976 to 29.970 pull-down thing, which hddvdmux supposedly tries to do.
Something I mentioned earlier: Since you already reencoded the whole movie - there is no need to reencode it again. multiAVCHD should've left a .264 in the source .m2ts-file folder. You can import it in multiAVCHD, set it for uncrop/hd-dvd output and add an external AC3 audio - it will make testing easier and it will take just minutes, instead of waiting few hours for a complete reencode.

One can Fast Forward and Fast Reverse.
At this juncture, from my perspective, the only things lacking are chapterizing and time searching (I personally have no interest in subtitles). Can these two things be readily accomplished? If so, I'll hold off on checking double layer capability until then.

@deank:
What is the idea of reencoding and uncroping from blu-ray to HDDVD in your program?
It is very easy to use the m2ts file created by BD_Rebuilder for HDDVD using the following steps:
1-Demux with TsMuxer.
2-Use h264info (version alpha 13) to add 3:2 pulldown flags and to write PPS in every picture.
3-Multiplex again to create HVDVD_TS structure.
Using that steps you can created a compatible HDDVD movie from a 264 video file ( 1920 x 1080 23.97fps) wit an AC3 audio file...

Hi!Multiplex again to create HVDVD_TS structure. How do you propose to create the .EVO file and requisite .IFO and .BUP files? (Unless something has changed VERY recently, "tsMuxer" accepts EVO files ONLY for input and does NOT create/export EVO files from any source material, not even from input EVO files)
Have you personally successfully created HD-DVDs that are playable on a standalone HD-DVD player, using this or any other freeware procedure?

BTW - Are you intentionally continuing to omit the HD-DVD .BUPs?
That's really good news - this was my final goal. Did you check the real duration of the original video and the one played in your player? These 240 frames are added at the end anyway.
I doubt I will be able to do anything about chapters and time search (I need to know the evo structure... we'll see)
About the BUPs... Sorry - every time you asked I was thinking about the IFOs :) and never thought of the backups. I'll add them now.
I also ran another encode tonight and it went as perfect as yours :)
edit: We had a severe storm tonight (continuing at the moment 11am) which fried my router and my *.deanbg.com server network, despite it is UPSd. I may have troubles staying online and my forum/site/updates won't work. You can start multiUPDATE.exe - 5th or 6th mirror URL should work and update your multiAVCHD to have the .BUPs created properly.
@m1482: Even if re-muxing to .evo was possible and there was a simple way to create the .ifo files, GOP size of 24/25 frames wouldn't work in HD-DVD (at least I think so). I asked jdobbs to include an option in BD Rebuilder for movie only mode, which will create compliant bd/avchd/hddvd .264 output, which HD-DVD users will be able to use without wasting more time for 2nd reencode and degrading the quality of the original bd disc. If he finds time for this - then hddvd users will be happy I guess.

I doubt I will be able to do anything about chapters and time search (I need to know the evo structure...)For kicks and giggles, you might want to try the following structure:
1) Create an "ADV_OBJ" directory
2) Create (and place in the "ADV_OBJ" directory) a simple text file named "VPLST000.XPL" and, as an example, enter as per following format (Use your own chapter times, of course). You can probably do without the layerbreak info:

I did that, but Nero doesn't show chapters. Can you try it with your compilations?
In fact, Nero won't show any Chapters even on its own encodes - I did a 15 hour long HD-DVD encode few days ago and I now tested it - no chapters.
* multiAVCHD will now generate VPLST000.XPL in ADV_OBJ, based on the chapter list in Title properties
* BUP files will be created, too
You will need to update with multiUPDATE.exe.
Other forums point out to DISCID.DAT file in ADV_OBJ folder, so it is possible that without the .dat and .map files subtitles/chapters will not be available. setarip_old, PM me if you can help with a sample of these files.

@deank
1) Build 670+, both with and without "ADV_OBJ" and "VLST000.XPL" in it, cropped off the last several seconds of an otherwise perfect conversion of "10,000 B.C." - and failed to recognize the chapter structure...
2) The "standard" HD-DVDs that we are creating here may require something entirely different regarding chapterization. Amongst my present collection of commercial HD-DVDs, I have only one that is "standard" - "Rain in the Mountains" (MPEG-2 video). It contains ONLY an "HDDVD_TS" folder. The folder contains ONLY .EVOs, equivalent .IFOs, and equivalent .BUPs. Therefore, I presume the chaptering code is in the .IFOs. This would preclude the need for any of the additional data you referred to, since it's all found in an "ADV_OBJ" directory, which doesn't exist for this HD-DVD.
Unfortunately, "IFOEdit" is not capable of reading these .IFOs...

@m1482
Hi!How do you propose to create the .EVO file and requisite .IFO and .BUP files? (Unless something has changed VERY recently, "tsMuxer" accepts EVO files ONLY for input and does NOT create/export EVO files from any source material, not even from input EVO files)
Have you personally successfully created HD-DVDs that are playable on a standalone HD-DVD player, using this or any other freeware procedure?
After procesing the 264 video file with h264 info, I created a "ts" file with TsMuxer using processed video an audio. Then I use Ulead Video Studio 11 authoring tool to create the HDDVD structure (sorry never find a freeware program to author to HDDVD) Video Studio accepts it as compatible (it only takes about 10 min to create the EVO files, etc).
The AVC video file from a blu-ray, is compatible with HDDVD. Only pulldown flags and PPS pictures should be added.
And yes it plays on a standalone Toshiba HDDVD player (HD-A2)!!!

23.976 fps doesn't work for HDDVD, that is why pulldown flags are added using h264info.exe (version alpha 13 is the onlyone that works correctly for HDDVD)
This change frame rate from 23.976>29.97!!!
So the option in BD Rebuilder is not really needed, just post processing the video file will make it compatible...

@m1482sorry never find a freeware program to author to HDDVDWell, now there is one - "MultiAVCHD" a GUI by "deank" - and it performs ALL of the steps you noted ;>}
So the option in BD Rebuilder is not really needed, just post processing the video file will make it compatible...The purpose of incorporating this into "BD Rebuilder" is to allow those of us who want BOTH compressed BluRays and HD-DVDs to have to use only one source, one time, to create BOTH...

1st question: Does ADV_OBJ presence affect the playback in your player? Should I remove it?
2nd: I'm doing some tests now about chapters in IFOs, so if I succeed, I'll let you know.

@deankDoes ADV_OBJ presence affect the playback in your player? Should I remove it?Under the present circumstances, its existence or lack thereof, appears to make no difference. I'd suggest that, for the time being you retain it (Similar to the "AUDIO_TS" folder on standard DVDs)
Any explanation as to why Build 670+ cut off the last four or five seconds of the tail-end of a full movie conversion, while Build 670 did not?

I told you about the cut-off. It seems that hddvdmux does it 'randomly' and it depends on the information in the last few packets of the h264 stream (and bitrate) and the way this muxer muxes it. This glitch is caused by hddvdmux, not by multiAVCHD.
There is no difference between 670 and 670+ about that. I only added chapter file in adv_obj - nothing related to the muxing or encoding.
I encoded 10 different clips and some won't have anything cut, other will have 1 second cut, other 7 seconds - all with the same build.
I found a way to change the number of chapters in the IFO file, but they all point to 00:00:00... now i'm trying to put the correct jump times, but don't put too much hope in it.

By your earlier statement regarding adding 240 frames at the end, I thought you were saying that this was how you resolved this issue - I guess "HDDVDMUX is consistently inconsistent ;>}
