I forgot to tell you that neither menus nor java are allowed on AVCHD disks.
Yes but some players can play Java on dvd (BD5/9), that's what Sylph should try. But I don't remember if MultiAVCHD do recognize Java.

P.S.2 People, who use Dune Prime/Base say, that BD-J image takes much more time to load and it's necessary to wait at least 2 minutes. Will try today this thing.
Result: 0
Have been waiting for 6 minutes and still black screen =(
Maybe I re-authored this BD-J wrong, I don't know.

Hey folks, I added my 18 1920x1080, 29.97 files in multiAVCHD. All the files became red. It says REF Count 5. What does it mean?

He wanted from USB, not from disks, which disks are specifically mentioned as playable, both in the manual and in the FAQ.
@Music Fan Yes - (My post was addressed to you and another...)
Anything that goes beyond both standards would maybe/eventually/once upon a time cease to function and/or be restricted to a specific device (at todays built quality, this wonder would last 2 maybe 3 years). Like both Sony cases showed us, once the marketing campaign reached the turning point, several features have been silently withdrawn (or added) by means of FW/HW upgrades.
Every current BD-player would play silver BDs, recorded BDRs (if not cinavia-infected) and AVCHDs on both media. ONLY. What is extra depends on the willingness of the manufacturer. Remember that until the last model, the Sharps won't read even BDRs. Since HDD and USB-sticks won't contribute to this GEMA/RIAA tax on copying (like DVDs, CDRs and BDRs do), if one copies a movie on a CD/DVD/BD, at least they will get some money therefrom - thus USB or DLNA playback generally allows lower quality content. Again, what comes extra is a bonus, not aquired rights.
I'm not saying that HQ content is not allowed, I'm saying that this should not be taken for granted (various restrictions apply) not that this is a generalised issue. One (the potential buyer) should be very careful in checking the features s/he's interested in, before buying it.
A short example: I own a Humax iCord HD PVR. Meanwhile Humax launched 2 other models, one is iCord HD PDR, the other is iCord HD+. The last two models are strongly crippled. Yet several magazines allegedly tested the HD+ model, and "verified" that the HD+ model could record 4 channels while watching the 5th, which is a feature of HD not one of HD+ (which does 2 channels +1). Various online shops also quoted the HD+ with the features of HD. The same for PDR (which has the USB and the network disabled because of Sky). So, one goes into a shop after reading the online prospect (from Humax), asks for the HD model, but the shopseller says: Hey, look at this brand new PDR, it does everything the HD does but it plays Divx and AVI and MP3, take one. Then the buyer finds out that s/he cannot copy the movies from the STB and floods the fora with questions: how to enable the USB/network - instead of going back at the shop, accusing it of false advertising.
Short example 2: Is anyone aware that almost all photocameras sold in EU that do film (as a bonus) are restricted to max. 30 minutes of continuous shooting? That in the case it won't stop after 30 seconds, or even 10 (like my Olympus). And this longer time is acheievd mainly by employing a lower resolution (like VGA)? This is partly because of the import tax regulations, partly because the manufacturer also has real camcorders (like Canon, Panasonic or Samsung) and partly because the media doesn't allow longer files. But it's so nice to advertise the photocamera as filming brilliant high-definition movies. And yet not a single speciality magazine does mention these restrictions when discussing a particular model.
The idea was to show that more than half of the questions here are generally directed towards avoiding the intentional crippling of the gear, which unfeatures were never, less, confusingly or falsely made public. MultiAVCHD started this way BTW.

Ok, but he tried to re-author a BD containing Java, so the first thing to know is if MultiAVCHD can open it, and if yes, can it keep Java in re-author mode.

Your files are not the originals, because refs is too high for this resolution, from my memory I think it should be 3 for this frame size. It should work on a PC though, as it has a larger memory (RAM) than a standalone.

I got it fixed using -refs 4. However, 2 different machine is complaining about AVSinfo.exe crashing. One is on Windows XP and my other machine is Windows 7. It is saying, everytime something gets processed, "AVSinfo.exe has stopped working". How do I fix this issue? My Windows 7 doesn't have any antivirus installed nor any blocker programs.
Here is a screenshot of the error. I will have to click the "Close Program" button in order for multiavchd to continue. However, it will popup again.

I couldn't figure out how to choose a frame from each of my clips so I can use it on the chapter menu as thumbnails. Where do I do that?
Also, the first dvd I burned worked on my PS3. I chose AVCHD disk. However, it didn't play on my Pioneer BDP-320p. But the other AVCHD iso that I burned from someone in avsforum.com played well on my 320p bd player. The difference I am seeing is that his .iso only contained 2 directories, BDMV and HDAVCTN. Mine contains
AVCHDTN
BDMV
details.txt
HDAVCTN
IISVPL
multiAVCHD.log
multiAVCHD.mpf
What should I do?

PS3 and standalone players behave differently, as you have discovered. Universal playback for both of your players could prove difficult, and maybe will not be an option if you are creating BD5/9 backups. Movie only will be your most likely successful method. BD25 should work though.
For your Pioneer BDP-320p, you could try the Blu-ray option with multiAVCHD, though I would have thought AVCHD would work too.
For my backups on my Sony S360, I use Blu-ray option, where I only keep the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders and delete the others you mention.

I got it to work now. I clicked AVCHD strict. :)
However, the thumbnails on each chapter is blank. It's not able to extract a frame from the clip. Maybe, I am doing it incorrectly. I clicked Poster button and it put the time on one of the fields. Also, when I click right arrow on my remote control to scroll thru each chapters, the whole screen goes black for 1.5 seconds, and then it returns the screen with the new chapter. It does this on all chapters. What should I check/uncheck so that it doesn't goes black?
Or is it currently a bug that's being worked on?

You're able to put film in a digital camera. Neat :D
You are video recording, not filming. There isn't any film in the device. :D :D :D

hallo, i really appreciate this software, but maybe i founded a bug in split movie. i tried to split a BD movie (only principal movie) to fix it for 2 dvd9 not using the split volume operation, but making it in 2 separate sessions to permit the cut at a chapter point. So first i have to use the cut end button in properties , and everything is fine and the movie is perfectely trimmed. but for second part i have to use the cut start button. it starts the conversion and seems ok, but at the end of conversion i have a double error, in muxing A/V and menu create, it's like multiavchd try to cut twice the movie, at start of process and at the end of conversion, so to complete the movie obviously cannot find the file (because is already trimmed), so i have all the necessary files in temp folder, but the final resul is a zero time movie. Is a known bug or where i make mistakes.
i put the log file.
tks for help

Isn't that something like taping a show with a DVR?
Yep. I don't do that either, especially since I do not have a DVR. All of my recordings are done on a PeeCee. :D

Quick question, guys (hopefully)
In the Title Transcode Settings dialog, which of the two x264 presets would provide the highest possible quality, 1-pass insane or 2-pass VHQ?
Thanks

2 pass is always better than 1 pass. Insane is the fastest (and with much loss of quality, used for test only). If you want to use 1 pass use turbo settings). 2 pass hq needs a lot of time (12 hours or more for a 2 hours movie, depends from cpu) , but with best results.

Is thumbnail creation for each chapter fixed now? I've already wasted 8 disc although all clips works. I've tried XMB and carousel but still didnt extract an image. I think the error says "Failed to extract thumbnail for title something ....".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe,my description is confusing. I took a shot of my latest burn. It's on a DVD DL disc. It's playing on PS3. If you see, the chapters are all black.

Hopefully this Properties window will tell what my issue is. I found screenshots from other people and their's have a video on the left side. Mine is just this blue screen. Also, when I click on the blue screen, mplayer pops-up with nothing on it. After like 5 seconds, it goes away.

Hopefully someone who has been thru to this kind of issue can shed some miracles. I've been troubleshooting it for more than 2 days now. :(

Download and run Dean's multiTEST:
http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiTEST/
Do you have multiAVCHD's three helper apps installed and configured. See multiAVCHD's download page:
http://multiforum.deanbg.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17
Also on that page read the items about setting up the playback chain.

BZeeme,
That helped a lot!!! When I conducted the test, only one PASSED, the Avisynth. I installed all the reuqired applications, all 3 PASSED but VC-1 is still failing. I followed all Dean's screenshot regarding ffdshow installation and retested, the VC-1 test failed. I am not sure what I'm missing. I re-installed ffdshow 3 times but still failed on the test. Any ideas? Oh, I also did the Windows 7 tweaker just in case you ask.

All PASSED now!!! :)
I had to rerun the tweaker and selected ffdshow instead of Windoze.

@Deank (mainly) and fellow users of MultiAvchd.
I've recently switched my PC. Now I've a W7-64 and I'm already using x264_64 from within MultiAvchd happily.
Nonetheless I'm asking how to complete (as far as possible) the 64 transition as far as ffdshow and avisynth are concerned as well.
There is a CLSID ffdshow 64 build that I've downloaded already, yet I'm reluctant to install it as it would install 64 bit plugins for avisynth which is still 32bit.
Another problem I've experienced is that it takes an era to open either Properties or Transcode windows.
Last but not least, no more ffdshow icons appear on the icon bar near the clock.
Thanks in advance

I have the same question as v1rtu0s1ty above.
In addition, I've discovered that if you create chapters that require more than one page, the chapters on the second page actually recycle to point to the beginning chapters of the movie. For example, the first twelve chapters are on page 1 of the chapters menu. Those correctly start their respective chapter. Chapters thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen on the second page actually select and start chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the movie.
I've run the multiTest and everything is in order. I am using the most current "multiAVCHD.dat".
Has no one else experienced this?
Thanks.

Disregard. Apparently my software player, in this case TMT 5, wasn't reading the chapter selections correctly. If I used TMT 3, it did.

Hi
I try to burn AVCHD discs for HD DVD TOSHIBA EP30.
I make folders(HVDVD_TS, VIDEO_TS) with multiAVCHD, but I can not burn the disc correctly.
For AVCHD discs for BluRay player uses, the ImgBurn without problems.
For AVCHD discs for TOSHIBA EP30,i have a problem with ImgBurn.

I don't know if you can get rid of it directly. During testing, I got around it by loading an .ini file for a compilation with a XMB style menu, changing the type of menu page from custom to default, and then changing the menu style to Carousel. I compared the two .ini files but I couldn't tell what line controls the background.
What you could do is replace the "C:\multiAVCHD\templates\res\Carousel\CM_back.png" (assuming you installed multiAVCHD to the root of the C drive). Just use a picture of your choice with the same size (1920X1080X16M) and form (.png)

I have a couple of movies that I backed up in PS3 compatible AVCHD but unable to play on PS3 - several other titles processed/backed up using multiAVCHD work fine - is there a way to debug why these 2 titles fail to play? PS3 does appear to recognize the AVCHD title but once its loaded, the screen flickers - goes black and then back to PS3 menu.
Any advice/suggestions appreciated!

I have successfully used multiAVCHD to shrink many BluRay titles while still keeping the menus. When I attempted to cut the end credits since they are almost 10 minutes long.
I decided this after having already processing MultiAVCHD on the BD folders, so on my second run to cut the end credits, I was using the output of multiAVCHD.
I entered the main stream movie properties and entered 650 seconds in cut end field since credits run for 10 minutes and 54 seconds and I subtract 4 seconds for a safe buffer. Hit okay and then Start and you can see in logs below that it fails.
UPDATE: Going to go back to original rip and just try a cut of end credits and nothing else and will report back.
UPDATE2: It worked when I started with original, however the tooltip for the end cut field is incorrect. It says "seconds from end of movie", but what it really wants is the total seconds from start of movie to where you want end cut to begin. So this could be worded better. Maybe just "movie time in seconds for where you want end cut to begin" or something like that. I am sure someone here can come up with better wording.

I wonder if multiAVCHD supports "fake interlaced" 720P25?
I guess multiAVCHD may be using tsmuxer internally?
http://sites.google.com/site/x264bluray/issues-with-certain-players
"TSmuxer does not support any of the --pulldown options."
And this is a recommended commandlines for x264 720P25:
x264 --bitrate XXXXX --preset veryslow --tune film --weightp 1 --bframes 3 --nal-hrd vbr --vbv-maxrate 40000 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --level 4.1 --keyint 25 --b-pyramid strict --slices 4 --ref 6 --aud --pulldown double --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --sar 1:1 --pass 1 -o out.264 input.file
x264 --bitrate XXXXX --preset veryslow --tune film --weightp 1 --bframes 3 --nal-hrd vbr --vbv-maxrate 40000 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --level 4.1 --keyint 25 --b-pyramid strict --slices 4 --ref 6 --pulldown double --aud --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --sar 1:1 --pass 2 -o out.264 input.file
So the conclusion is I can not use the above commandlines with AVCHD because of --pulldown double?

ronnylov,
I was under the impression that multiavchd doesn't modify the files we feed it. It keeps all the settings(fps, bitrate, resolution). So am I right that multiavchd doesn't reencode our files, it just authors it?
ronnylov
13th January 2011, 10:07
I think multiavchd can reencode the video (transcode) if you tell it to do it, or leave the original untouched if you want. I encode my own videos separately (from videocamera or HDTV captures) and afterwards I want to author with MultiAVCHD. But there should be underlaying tools that actually do the multiplexing to m2ts and I suspect it may be using TsMuxeR and if that is the case there is a known problem (or was, it may have been fixed, I do not know). Maybe I should have asked the question in the tsMuxeR thread...

@v1rtu0s1ty
No, you are wrong. Sort of. multiAVCHD only compresses files when the native files are to large for the desired output format. Ex: When compressing a Blu-ray to AVCHD (after which the program is named), you absolutely have to compress the video, as there is no other way to fit 25GB of files onto a 4.3GB disk.

What I'll be mentioning below is not from bluray source but from my camcorder's native file.
I haven't looked at the truncated files that multiAVCHD created. The other day, I placed 3 files. When it completed the avchd directory, I noticed it created more files under STREAM directory. However, I didn't calculate the total size of all files so I can compare it with my original file.
Later, I'm going to "ffmpeg -i" each file so I can compare the header to my original native file.
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks!

I'm wondering if someone can answer a quick question that I have about multiAVCHD:
I'm trying to add background music to a menu that's comprised of just a static image. I ran multiAVCHD and created the files and I'm wondering if when I preview the film in PowerDVD 10, if the music is supposed to play in the menu as well? I've created a menu before with no music and it shows up fine. This time though is the first time that I'm trying and I've simply chosed the "Background audio" field and pointed it to my .wav file. I still see the static image of the menu, but nothing plays. I don't really want to burn this to a DL DVD and find that it doesn't work at all so I'm wondering if this is just a quirk with the program or if I'm doing something wrong for this to be happening.
I've also noticed that the music doesn't play when you preview the menu within multiAVCHD even if I choose the "Actual preview of menu page" option.

I don't know if you can, or can't. What you need to think about is how much you will be removing by eliminating some audio files. Audio is a small fraction of the content, compared to video. If the original BD is 40 GB, for example, there is no way you are going to be able to remove more than 15 GB of just audio alone and get the size down so that it will fit on a 25 GB disc.
Also, by leaving menus intact, wht do you think will happen if you select an audio track via a menu, only to have the player discover that it isn't there. Will the player crash?
Food for thought.

It should play in PowerDVD (I don't have v10 only V7.3). You could go to the stream folder, find the menu m2ts and use MediaInfo to see if it has audio (or play the m2ts directly with a software player). No audio with the internal preview of multiAVCHD is normal.

Hi all !
Apologies if already covered ...
With entries in H264/MKV container and pointing the exact time code of the desired image as a poster, some are well preserved and others are left with images unrelated (distant time code).
Is there any trick to get every time the desired image as poster (with the mode of XMB) ?
Thank you in advance

I have one real quick question regarding format. What is the best format to build AVCHD's with? Right now I'm exporting my footage from my NLE as h.264 MP4 files, but it appears multiAVCHD converts this to MKV before transcoding. To save an extra step should I just export my videos to MKV?
