May I ask - what is better ??

The OSD elements are more user-friendly in MPC-HC. When seeking through a file, the time remaining flashes on the screen to tell you where you are in the file. MPC-BE requires this information is enabled manually through a key press. So seeking is done blind. Also, I can check the audio or subtitle tracks in MPC-HC by pressing "Next Audio" or "Next Subtitle." Viewing the audio or subtitle track in MPC-BE is possible, but only if there is more than one track available.

Both players have a dearth of usable OSD elements from a TV viewing distance, but MPC-HC is currently a little more user-friendly.

@Aleksoid1978 How comes the 64bit version never loads up on windows 10, it worked at first but I think since I installed some Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables it never loads up always crashes, 32bit works fine.

I have the same problem, 64bit version always crashes, 32bit works fine.

MPC-BE.1.4.6.979.x64.(VS2015).7z
crashes my Windows 10 x64 pro U.S., fall update, Avast free turned on & off

The program never launches correctly. Instead, it crashes the explorer file manager when I try to start MPC-BE64.exe
No blue screen of death, but I can't kill the explorer process and have to restart the computer. There isn't even an option to collect a crash report, debug log or memory dump

MPC-HC works fine, and MPC-BE used to work. Maybe a Windows update? I get them fairly frequently now.

We are know. Problem that toolbar based on image file ...

Gday. I'm just thinking about this some more. The problem is I cant use MPC-BE currently because the toolbar is way too small in HTPC situations with say a 65" display and a 10 foot viewing distance.

I understand the long term thing about scalable graphics that would scale to what high DPI and high resolutions a user may do. I understand this would take time to develop as its a new feature.

Rather than alienate users like me until this is done, do you have anyone that for the time being could artist up a toolbar in say 64x or 88x? Im not an artist so I cant do it. Would doing that as a workaround with a much larger toolbar download as an option be better than waiting for some future unplanned date for it to be useable?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I came across a very strange thing and I was wondering if anyone had an explanation.

This seems to be related to MPC-BE as I tried with MPC-HC and couldn't reproduce, hence why I'm posting here.

I have also tried with EVR-CP, and I get the same issue as with MadVR, so this rules MadVR out too.

Setup is as per my sig.

Here is the issue:

When I play a UHD file (x264, but the same happens with HEVC content) from the desktop using MPC-BE on my UHD compatible display (JVC X500, it's not 4K native panels but it does accept 4K content and then displays it using e-shift), MPC-BE does some downscaling even when set to fullscreen / touch window from the inside.

Instead of displaying to the UHD actual window (desktop definitely set to UHD 24p), it downscales to 3072x1371 (both with MadVR and EVR-CP).

However, if I play the same file, using the same player (MPC-BE) with the same renderer, from MyMovies (MCE plugin) then the file is displayed fullscreen as it should be with no downscaling.

I've taken some screen shots in the various modes, so you can take a look if you want. Here is a link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/60hx72bhg9wtmxy/MPC-BE%20downscaling%20issue.zip?dl=0

You'll need to zoom up the screenshots to see the MadVR stats as they are UHD screenshots obviously.

It does this with all UHD files, irrespective of the encoding.

Please let me know if this is a known bug, or if anyone can reproduce this.

Thanks!

madshi

Could be high DPI setting related? At least the madVR OSD looks "scaled" in one screenshot, which should only happen if madVR's output is scaled behind madVR's back.

Thanks, I'll double check that. I did use some scaling to make the desktop more visible, so it might be the reason, but it doesn't explain why it happens in MPC-BE and not MPC-HC (which I never use but installed just to debug).

Any plans to display this OSD info larger when in UHD? That would be great! :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I used the MPC-BE bundled with the latest KCP 1.0.8, as per my sig. Can I just drop the latest build you link into the KCP subfolder, or do I need to uninstall KCP and install MPC-BE separately to test this build?

You were correct, if I make sure the DPI setting is set to the minimum there is no downscaling applied even with the MPC-BE build included in KCP 1.0.8.

I have checked with the latest MPC-BE build, and the problem is gone, even when DPI settings are applied, so it now behaves as MPC-HC.

Thanks again to both of you :).

User can create BIG toolbar itself :)

Thanks, Ive been trying to do this. I found some doco from a post in 2010 here:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=153123

But it seems out of date cos it says its limited to 32x, when for example in MPC-HC there is a toolbar that is 48x48 by Reckless. And I need the icon size way bigger than 32x, such as 64x.

Is there current documentation on how to skin and what is supported in MPC-BE with size, format etcetc

Aleksoid1978
8th December 2015, 05:26
No limit to the toolbar size. Here some toolbars - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/Toolbars/
You can take 32x and resize to 64/128/256 for test and see what's happened :)

Gday, on the latest nightly x64 build. When using 4K in high DPI (my monitor defaults to 300% DPI by default in Windows 10), and a user right mouse clicks during playback, then does filters, then selects one of the filters, the Pin Info tab GUI is garbled up and does not display correctly. I reported this bug to the MPC-HC Team, and it was fixed in their code fairly recently in their source code commit log so it should be straightforward to fix it also in this fork.

Link to screenshot showing the bug:

http://i66.tinypic.com/2afa91g.png

Thanks

Nullack

Another fixed in MPCHC one to do with 4K resolutions and situations of high DPI 300%, again on the latest nightly x64 build. In the CTRL J statistics menu, MPC-HC has the video graph at a size that is easy to see. Heres a pic:

http://i67.tinypic.com/vxm915.png

In MPC-BE the graph is too small and is very hard to see in granular detail:

http://i66.tinypic.com/3g2er.png

You should be able to see the commit for fixing this in the source of the MPC-HC project.

I do really like how in MPC-BE theres also a CPU and GPU useage indicator in the renderer stats, thats not in MPC-HC and its useful.

Thanks

Nullack

This one I also reported to MPC-HC but it is not fixed. It also exists in the nightly x64 build of MPC-BE. In 4K with high DPI settings, the GUI for lav video/lav splitter/lav video decoder on the LAV Formats tab is broken. When viewing any of the three LAV config programs outside of MPC-BE, the formats tab for all three display fine as per the below screenshot:

http://i66.tinypic.com/2gxnzpf.png

But then a user is in MPC-BE and they want to view any of the three LAV filters format tab, it gets garbled up in high DPI 4K situations like the following screenshot

http://i63.tinypic.com/jkahr9.png

Thanks
