Add the possibility to launch a program or bat file when mpc-be starts and stops

I thought about that too: I want to switch off the TV before the PC goes to sleep, triggered by MPC-BE.
But since I use madvr,. I'm not sure what kind of issues it would raise, so that's why I haven't asked for it.

I tried nightly build 4661 from Aleksoid1978 to check how my translation looks and got an idea, maybe you also think it wolud look nice:
Now there is one more entry in the options page on the left, so a scrollbar appears.
What do you think about tabs for External filters page and the priority page (next page), so there is one page for the two in options and the scrollbar is gone? It appears on both 100% and 200% scaling.

@ Klaus and devs. At my resolution settings some of the new lines are cut-off !! For example in the new window size-settings the 'n' is missing in the lines:
- Letzte Fenstergröße merken
- Fensterproportionen bei der Größenänderung anpassen

Couldn't the option dialogue windows be bigger anyway ? At least horizontally ??

What scaling factor and what exact nightly build version did you try?

200% is fine here in options. Yesterday I tested r4661. Just download r4664 which is also fine.

Why winamp using VSFilter ??Some people use that for video playback. It has DirectShow plugin.

I only used it for audio ... until I found AIMP. But winamp is till running on my PC: it wakes up the PC from sleep with ClockAmp plugin. :)

I just installed the latest build (4668). The framing is completely messed up; all of my videos open in a small window now.

EDIT: I went through all of the latest builds. The problem begins with 4664 (4656 was the last version that didn't exhibit this behavior).

on the seek bar there's a thumbnail preview, but the preview only shows when you stop moving the bar.

On PotPlayer you can literally just move the mouse through the entire scrollbar without any delay whatsoever.

I checked how preview appears with local files, and it looks its not continuous frames, but rather a limited count of movie frames spaced by a given interval fixed in MPC-BE.

It seems for LAN files playback a user can accept even larger interval between preview frames, thus allowing for preview without network stream disruption. Also, in contrast with internet sources, a user can control LAN server sending frames that ensures no denial of service despite receiving frequent preview frame requests from the player.

What is the reason to block preview for LAN playback? Can you give more in-depth details how preview algorithm works, and where the problem can be with LAN preview?

First, we calculate the time by the cursor position. Then select the nearest keyframe from the list. Finally, display this keyframe in the preview window.

Assuming too frequent requests to a frame server can cause denial of service or saturate slow network, may be its possible to use some predictive algorithm, asking for next 10 frames at ones instead of just 1 frame? And keeping them in RAM until the cursor has passed the mark.

This would cut frame requests count to avoid network disruptions. Also, frame preview may be available only when movie playback is stopped to ensure no playback interruptions.

At the very least, can you enable preview when playing a movie stream from a LAN source, and block it when playing a network stream from WAN? LAN sources are usually under local control, local speed is much higher, WiFi access is often distributed through several adapters, and disruptions are not likely and easy to stop.

Why not show preview only when movie playback is stopped? This way preview won't saturate the network, while providing the same benefits in finding the right seek bar points.

It feels the actual reason to block movie stream preview in MPC-BE is not technical.

This is intentional isn't it? If using the seek bar didn't empty the present queue it would feel very sluggish, with a lot of lag in any interactions with it. 8 frames is a long time to wait for a click to register.

Because it is Google.
I did not check. But I think that preview frames are ordinary pictures that the browser receives from the server.

Is it possible for you guys to look again at the preview implementation, and try adapting it to streams? May be making a bit more intelligent to calm down extra traffic?

I ask, because video streams share is very high now. MPC-BE can directly stream YouTube videos, but it lacks YouTube player previews. Generally, streams playback is very smooth in MPC-BE compare to other players, yet preview is unfairly missing. :o
