Applying an output mask costs 5 extra shader operations (with the mask option enabled). It's not great, but the real problem is that you have to enter the mask size manually because the black bar size (or the source AR) is not currently available to the shader.
I will repeat. The condition in the shader will most likely not reduce the load on the GPU.
The processing of black boxes usually does not greatly affect the final result.
In most cases I agree that user shaders don't need to access the black bar space. There will always be exceptions however, ex: display an output histogram calculated by a compute shader at the bottom of the screen.
Support for external compute shaders is not planned.

The mask is not to save processing time, it's to mask unwanted shading of the black border.
On normal intensity, the effect is not really noticeable here, but in other shaders it can be more troublesome.

Mpv also doesn't shade the black border in post-resize fullscreen.

With mpc-be EVR-cp, I'm opening a single color gray128 1080p mp4 test video and the windows10 fullscreen screenshots (Win+PrnScr, PrnScr) contains 16 or so colors (similar but not identical issue with mpc-hc, it works as expected with mpv, vlc, vlc dx9).

Perhaps it's dither. What texture format are you using? Have you tried forcing the RGB32 output in the decoder?

I can't reproduce with a clean start (after win10 reboot). I was using 8bit surface, RGB32 throughout. I'll try forcing RGB32 decoder output if/when the issue comes back. The Shift+F5 output screenshots did not have the issue.

Hi all, I'm (and have many times through the years) having difficulty getting into the DVD menus of the Queen Greatest Video Hits 1 DVD (2002). I'm not sure what's so different about this to other DVDs. The DVD gets stuck on the black and red screen where it shows the country copyright and never moves past it. Does anyone know is this purely mpc-be at play in this, or is there some windows DVD dll in play? I'm just using the latest LAV Video decoders and the latest madVR beta 113. The Queen Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD (2003) behaves better and at least gets to the navigation menu. When playing each song from there however it doesn't allow fast forwarding / skipping forward when within the song itself.

Has anyone got a copy of these that would care to reproduce it?

DVD playback uses the DVD Navigation filter from Microsoft. That is known to have issues with certain discs.
You could also test if it plays with WMP on Windows 7.

I have reported similar problems with DVDs a while ago here but it is dying/dead format. Nobody seem to be 'understandably' interested to work on that issue.

I tried VLC - that shit is as obnoxious on Android as it is on Windows. I'm using MX player at the moment. It works but being and indian app, it's full of ads on bollywood movies and tv shows....

1 - I don't watch videos on phones :)
2 - On Android you can very fast find "moded" version of MX player, without any ads ...

No. This is bad practice. The right mouse button on top will be used only for menus and for some toolbar commands.
