First we would like to see working patches that implement such functionality.

This will greatly complicate the code and makes no sense. I checked.

Jinc scaling is the best, so I don't understand what doesn't make sense about it. It has the least amount of errors.

huhn
16th March 2024, 03:13
it still has issues major issues.

a scaler that is good for image scaling doesn't have to be good for chroma.

Hi, MPC-BE portable v1.6.11, I have "Global Media Keys" unchecked but it is still responding to my play/pause next/back track etc hotkeys when the MPC-BE window is in the forefront. Doesn't matter whether the video is already playing or not, if the MPC-BE window is in the forefront it always responds to my hotkeys. If MPC-BE gets "hidden" (not in the forefront anymore) it stops responding to hotkeys. Known bug or normal behavior? Am trying to get my music player (MusicBee) to be the only app to ever respond to hotkeys. Thanks much :-)

I don't understand the problem. I don't have a keyboard with media keys.

I can only suggest going into the key settings and clearing all entries in the "App command" column.

No. Read carefully what I wrote.

Just found out that super-resolution applies well to Intel HD-630 while not to Intel HD-620 (black screen).

Edit: While playback exact 720p video on 1080p screen, HD-630 seems work fine with super-resolution, but with a video with resolution of 1280x718, only got black screen.

Any idea how this would happen? Is it avoidable, or something that can be done to address it for a developers' view?

v0lt
19th March 2024, 15:03
@Anima123
Perhaps this is due to the multiplicity of sizes to a power of two. Your height 718 is only a multiple of x2. Normal height is 720 multiple of x16.

Is there anything to do to mitigate the restriction while playing back?

At least one should be warned of the limitation/restriction of super-resolution before hitting a wall.

I think it would be more correct to write about the problem at Intel.

here is a new chroma test this time with mpcVR cat rom:
https://slow.pics/c/mFvmhVMl

image 1 the aberration is the hardest it is just generally sharper most people will not be able to tell the difference.

image 2 and 3 the red ones. obvious massively sharper image

image 4 massively lowered aliasing in the hair should be very trivial to see.

of the to other scaler that are available lanczos 3 or jinc2 may lower the aliasing. how the over board sharpness of jinc 2 will end up i have no clue.

this is super xbr 150 in that test i only used that for 1080p source that are upscaled to UHD.

I don't see a fundamental difference between "mpcVR catrom" and "madVR jinc3 AR" for chroma. I looked at pairs of pictures one after another with full 4k screen zoom in IrfanView. It’s possible that to see the benefits of "madVR jinc3 AR" you need a large TV with large pixels, but I doubt that it will be so significant there that it’s impossible without it.

huhn
20th March 2024, 04:54
ok i find this very trivial to do.

i do no zooming at all i can also do that on a 1080p screen.

but i have to agree jinc2 is maybe not enough of a difference.
just remember this test:
https://slow.pics/c/72JEh0DC
it's hard to tell them apart but if you compare 1 with 6 directly it's day night.

in the test above the difference between super xbr and bicubic is massive but jincs is in between making it look not that different.

just to be sure you have a proper 4:4:4 set up so no TV is used?

AngelGraves13

And if you super-res the chroma?

huhn
20th March 2024, 22:29
super what?

AngelGraves13
21st March 2024, 06:54
super what?

Super Resolution. We can use it for upscaling can't we? Chroma can also benefit from super resolution, especially the softer scalers like Jinc and others.

huhn
21st March 2024, 10:15
super resolution is a term used for upscaling past the target resolution and downscaling to the target. there is zero benefit for chroma doing that and mpcVR can't do that anyway. and something i'm not missing at all.

then there is RTX super resolution that is just a scaler that replaces all other scaling function maybe it output's 420 i don't know so a correction chroma scale is maybe needed but will have barely any effect jinc2m is also not available for that.

RTX super resolution is no a good scaler in general it's power is cleaning up low res flawed source. but for good source the creators intend is just destroyed.

the jinc2m is everything but not soft.

v0lt
21st March 2024, 15:16
And if you super-res the chroma?
Enable "Request Super Resolution" in MPC VR and output at 100% scale. There will be some improvement in terms of restoring chroma, see for yourself.

huhn
21st March 2024, 17:07
quite good on this one image: https://i.postimg.cc/1mdDXH5g/nativesuperres.png
but it will still scale the image if used which is a no go.

I'm aware...I was suggesting that it improves chroma upscaling, especially for softer scalers like Jinc and possibly others.

I'm not sure if MPC VR actually does super resolution on chroma, but if it doesn't...maybe it should.

as i shared an image of it doing it yes it can but you can not use it with other scaler.

I can confirm that Windows Defender sees a virus in the MPC-BE.1.7.0.x64.7z file (but not in the other files).
I disabled realtime protection, downloaded MPC-BE.1.7.0.x64.7z and unpacked it. Windows Defender cannot find anything in the unpacked files, but detects a virus in the 7z file.

I can’t do anything about it.
Is it possible to change 7z settings? for example, use LZMA2 instead of LZMA? Maybe it will help.

It sounds like treating a sore throat with enemas.

PS: We use LZMA because it didn't have any problems like LZMA2. Also, LZMA produced better compression than LZMA2 on our data.

Press "A" on toolbar- will there be audio tracks?
Next, go to the key settings, look for audio switching and see if it may not be “A” at all.

Reset all settings and try again. The OSD should work when you press the A key on the keyboard.

If you use the A button on the toolbar, the OSD will not be shown, because before that you just saw a list of audio tracks and selected what you need.
