Are there any long term plans to add Dolby Vision support ? User at Guru3D forums uploaded a version of MPV that plays Dolby Vision files on Windows 10/11.

https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/dolby-vision-wish-we-could-get-this-to-work.454293/page-8#post-6330858

I am on Windows 10 and I tried several DV files and they were displayed correctly, with no green/purple tint. The player itself is a piece of crap though. Not intuitive to configure and it stutters during the play of good amount of videos I used to test it with, both DV and non DV. Only silver lining is its ability to correctly display Dolby Vision files.

try it with mpcVR as the video renderer.
there are a lot of different DV types some will work.

I ask for help: I have a problem when I use mpc-be to save a YouTube video in the webm format.
The download takes place correctly, a video file and audio file is created. But the next union, creates a small file (262 bytes) which obviously does not contain the video. In the MPC-BE installation folder there are ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe. If I use ffmpeg.exe from command line everything works properly. The problem seems to be in how MPC-be manages ffmpeg. I also tried various versions of ffmpeg.exe but the problem remains. Thanks to those who want to help me.

Provide a link to the video and a screenshot of the "Online media service" settings.

Added:
I think you are using VP9 video with AAC audio. MPC-BE tries to merge it into WebM format, which is impossible.

This may be fixed in the future. The best solution is to change the audio or video format in the settings.

Thank you v0lt. The problem is with any video. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvAUQsbKnLI
For clarity I report what I do. I open the video (Open File/URL). I select one of the WEBM(vp9)... (Navigate > Jump To). The video is correctly played. Now Salvo (File > Save As).
What remains after downloading is a small file.
In the " Online media service " settings no change has given good results.

Thank you Aleksoid1978. I identified the problem in the LAV filters. In particular in the audio setting, where I have to remove the tick from Dolby Digital and DTS. Thanks for helping me.

It doesn't work, files have the usual purple/green tint, but thank you for the suggestion. Hopefully some kind of workaround will be available in the future.

I think it would be best for you to reinstall MPC-BE 1.8.4+. During installation, make sure that the "MPC Video Renderer" component and the additional "Reset settings" task are enabled.

Why does DV use shaders unlike PQ/HLG even when using D3D for resizing? This I guess is very much subjective, but what are your personal thoughts on whether it is worth it to prefer DV and use the chroma shader, and is Catmull-Rom the obvious choice or can Bilinear be better in some cases?

The DXVA2/D3D11 video processor does not support Dolby Vision.

Thank you, also another question: I tried the RTX Super Resolution option, but it makes the image look washed out like it was supposed to be watched in HDR. It seems a bit odd as there are separate options both in the MPCVR settings and NVidia CP for the SDR to HDR function, which were both unselected. If on the other hand I only request super resolution in MPCVR and leave it off in NVCP, it does absolutely nothing (though OSD says it is on, with an asterisk at the end). What am I doing wrong?

Never mind, found the culprit. It seems it doesn't work with 16-bit Floating Point, have to use 8/10-bit Integer.

When playing certain old videos, mainly mpeg or wmv files, the player does not seek properly. When seeking the audio will play normally, but it might take 30 seconds or more for the video to start back up. In some cases it seems like the video never starts again.
I only noticed this recently after installing windows 11 and a recent version of MPC-BE. Previously I was on windows 10, and probably using at least a 2 year old build of MPC-BE. Not sure if there is some setting I might need to tweak, or if maybe there was some change in the decoders or renderer that might effect this.

Specifically in case of WMV, I would like to guess that it probably does not contain a valid keyframe index chunk. It may help to remultiplex it. I guess ffmpeg can handle it; I once bought "Machete" to do that.

In case of MPEG PS or TS, they don't have index chunks, so the player needs to estimate a seek position by extrapolating an average bitrate value in a header, which may be invalid; remultiplexing (maybe to MKV) should improve that as well.

Has anyone been able to get MPC-BE to remember to "Show milliseconds" if that option is checked and then the player is closed and reopened?

In order for mine to show milliseconds, that option needs to be rechecked every time the player is open.

I author codes for WindTracks dependent on exact frame times often having many instances of the player opened simultaneously repeatedly opening and closing them.

I too wish for a persistent MPC-BE retain showing millisecond setting. Fwiw, MPC-HC does in fact retain the setting... but not MPC-BE.

... dependent on exact frame times...
When using DirectShow, you are not guaranteed to get accurate timing for each video frame.

I make very extensive use of the remembering of last position where you stopped a file function. Probably a stupid question, but it doesn't by any chance eliminate a file from the tracked list if you "rewind" it to the beginning? Also, if you have a 5 min minimum length (to use my own setting as an example) for a file to remember its last position, does it even register shorter files you open, or is it as simple as just keeping count of any previous x (whatever you've set) number of files opened regardless of either their length or whether you've "rewinded" them, but only actually starts where you last stopped for the files where the set minimum is met?

The last added default language feature is for audio. Maybe add a selection of language for subtitles? Now it loads the first entry in alphabetical order.

Sample Video:

In this video there is "english" and "english (automatically created)" but only the first is listed. Is it possible to also add the other one?

It feels a bit weird that subtitle selection is used on "Playback" page, but audio not on this page, because there is dedicated audio dropdownlist in "Online media services".
Does using preferred audio in "Playback" options page affect everything else, but not YT?
It works. Thank you.
