This happens with several DVDs. There is no point in uploading it.

It would be unnecessary for me to upload it because this happens with several DVDs. Pay attention and the problem will appear. Navigate the menu, click anywhere, etc.
Don't just test it with porn.
"This not happened on all my dvd."
Yes, not all of them. But quite a few.

Well, you don't have many DVDs if you watched them all so quickly.
I wanted to finish it after my first post. :)

All menus were fine. No issue there.
And playing the video was also fine here.
What exactly is your issue?
Like misslines buttons in menu, not working button in menu, stuttering, dropping frames, there can go so much wrong, but if you insist on not providing any info, you do NOT want help.
Did you try latest nightly of today, same issues on your end?

hardware vs software decode, GPU or even the OS to name a couple of issue sources.

People using the player are having problems with DVD playback. Freezing is common when navigating the menu. The program often freezes even at startup. The disc is flawless and an original factory release!
The comment about MPC-HC working with the DVD is interesting because it might also depend on the filter version in that player. The release version of LAV 0.82 took out hardware decode support for DVD because "DVD handling has a number of special requirements with handling the menu and such things which caused numerous bugs with hardware decoding."
The quote talks about the menu.. so..

I have already written everything down.
1. Use disc.
2. Sometimes it freezes immediately, sometimes when using the menu, sometimes by itself when the player jumps to the next media.
3. Freezing means the player stops by itself. (the player CRASHES)
4. I also thought it was some internal software error in the player. Maybe something coding related.
5. That's it. :)
Postscript: gpu? i use Nvidia. (not very old) The driver is installed (also not very old) OS? Win 10 and 11. (not 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, I hope I didn't miss anything)
I'm done with the topic.

Thought this was a bit interesting, not that I watch any DVDs these days, not many do I guess?
Just wanted to check if my setup could still play DVDs.
Win 10 x64
Nvidia RTX 4060
MPC-BE 1.8.9 + MPC-VR 0.10.3.2545
LAV Filters 0.82
1 Optiarc CD/DVD- and 2 Blu-ray/4K UHD players, Pioneer and ASUS.
Ripped 5 complete DVD titles to both folders and ISO.
Played 5 different titles (discs) directly from the DVD/Blu-ray players, clicked through all menus, paused, back to the movie, clicked around in menus, worked perfectly fine.
Played all ripped titles (folders and ISOs), all menus worked perfectly fine.
Latest LAV filters don't seem to have any impact on playing DVDs.
Nothing is 100% sure, but 99% it's probably your own setup that's at fault.

the lastest lavfilter actual has a stability change for DVD playback related to menu handling or let me rephrase that the word menu come up i'm really bad at these details so here you go: https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=2031943#post2031943

Nope... maybe I'm just lucky? Where are the others who have the same problems with MPC-BE and DVDs that you have?
That "Asus PC DVD player", is it an external USB 3 player? Maybe that's the culprit?

Ask AI
LAV Filters Hardware decoding support for DVDs has been removed
Why Was This Changed?
DVDs use the legacy MPEG-2 format, which requires a comparatively low amount of processing power compared to modern high-resolution formats like HEVC/H.265 or AV1.
Modern CPUs are perfectly capable of software-decoding MPEG-2 without breaking a sweat, making GPU hardware acceleration unnecessary for DVDs.
Removing this functionality helps simplify the LAV codebase.
What Does This Mean for You?
● Your videos will still play. You do not need a new graphics card or player. LAV Filters will automatically fall back to software decoding (via libavcodec) for DVD MPEG-2 video.
● No performance impact. Because MPEG-2 is an older, lightweight format, the transition to software decoding will not cause lag or dropped frames on modern computers.
How to Verify Playback
If you are currently watching a DVD and want to check if the video is decoding properly, you can follow these steps:
1. Ensure your LAV Video tray icon is enabled.
2. Double-click the tray icon while your DVD video is playing.
3. Look at the decoder status: instead of listing your GPU (e.g., DXVA2/D3D11), it will say avcodec.
If you are noticing stuttering or playback issues with your DVD and suspect it might be CPU-related, I can help you troubleshoot.
Let me know:
● What media player (e.g., MPC-HC, PotPlayer) you are using.
● Your current CPU and RAM specs.

Is it technically possible, for me as user, to add a button to the button bar which activates full screen mode by one mouse click? A double-click into the video interrupts it (it pauses for a tiny moment due to the first click before entering full screen mode and continuing to play due to the second click).
clsid
16th June 2026, 16:10
Of course that is possible. MPC-HC has a button option, has option to delay left-click in anticipation of double-click, can also assign middle mouse click to FS. So three solutions for same goal.

16th June 2026, 16:15
Regarding DVD issues.
If crashes -> post stack trace and/or dump. Afaik the MPC-BE crash handler can generate that.
If freezes -> use Windows Task Manager to create dump of mpc-be process for the devs to analyze.
LigH
16th June 2026, 16:15
That would be an advantage of MPC-HC. How may it work in MPC-BC instead, would I need to edit a theme to insert a clickable button?

One option in MPC-BE for that
LigH
16th June 2026, 16:44
Yes, that works alright. There is even an option to enable fullscreen without changing the video mode, which seems to be even less disturbing. Thank you.
Klaus1189
16th June 2026, 16:51
I personally have had left mouse click for play/pause disabled even before MPC-BE was born (I was using MPC-HC back then). For this just blank out the marked filed and you can also use the Fullscreen without changing the video mode in the dropdownlist for double click.

Fixed tone mapping when using 16-bit float textures.
How much does this improve the texture format in question? Is it still not a viable candidate next to 8/10 auto? Or is it even inherent in how it works that it never can be? clsid, huhn?

i do not know what that option does specifically. if you lower madVR to 10 bit internal you get massive banding all over the place.
if it would do some math in linear light you could even argue if 16 isn't to low. this stuff is complicated and depends heavily on the context.
