Hi, guys! Thank you for the wonderful MPC-BE and for your hard work developing it!

Is it possible to add an option, when playing an audio file the player to continue to show my chosen external logo instead of switching to the logo with the loudspeaker? Or maybe I can tweak some registry settings?

Right now my workaround is to set the player to "display album art/cover pictures" and put my external logo as cover.jpg in every folder with audio files, but it's a bit inconvenient.

I've been using MPC-BE to watch Youtube HDR videos, with a 980Ti + i7 8700k. And it works really well...but just for the first few minutes. Weird. After two minutes or so my GPU utilization drops from 30-40% to 10-15%, and the video starts to drop frames like crazy and stutter. It happens with every HDR video that I've tried, and always after a few minutes of playing.

Does BE version of MPC support more forms of Bink file types? They are mostly used for games. I wonder why...

MPH-HC can open some .BK2 files, but not others. I know RAD Video Tools comes with BK2 file player, but that means no madVR, no 3DLUT and accurate colors, no superior playback quality...

This doesn't seem to be an appropriate thread to discuss more general BK2-related questions, but I am not sure which Doom9 forum section is more suitable for this...

EDIT: When people say they use MPC-BE for YouTube video playback, do they mean that BE can simply load ANY YouTube video URL and show the video? Or does it do it through some other tools like YouTube-DL-GUI ?

yes mpc-be can load kind of any youtube video by adding the URL.

Bikn file support was made based on ffmpeg code. If MPC-BE does not play Bikn file, but ffplay plays it, then provide such a file for examination.

How about running one or more of your problem .mkv files through an application called 'MediaInfo' (set to text mode) and post what it reports in full.

Thanks for the advice. This is one example of a file that is not playing properly, that is the audio plays fine, but the video element is stuttering and jumpy, almost frozen.

No - it's not a bug, nothing solved. Flag in matroska not for show/hide subtitles. It's for priority of choice.

But - if you want see only "forced" you can set option "Forced only" in subtitles sub-menu.

hy there,

if you want you can do it yourself, it works and i can show you how if you are interessted..

ill put the tutorial here but spoiler it so it does not disturb the conversations here :)


1. you need a Tool named "Resource Hacker" its freeware and clean...

2. open the Mpc-be64.exe or the 32bit one, wich ever you use, wich Resource Hacker.

on the left side now, find number 197 under the PNG Tab.

Right click the number 197:1033 and then you can REPLACE the picture, BUT be aware that it has to be the same size as the one that you are replacing, also it has to be 24bit png.

Wow! Thank you so much, BetA13! I didn't even have to resize my image (500x313). Just saved it as a 24-bit png and it worked like a charm!

i have a small question, a small request and found a small bug :)


the question:
is there a way to enable blu ray menus ?
when i open a blu ray (even with index.bdmv) the main movie starts, but the menu is not shown before.

(i have a blu ray where the movie has 2 different endings, but the movie seems to be only 1 time on the disc and the ending is chosen from menu. when the movie starts without menu you cannot select which version you want to see)


the bug:
i use a usb dac and
when i play high res audio with wasapi exclusive enabled,
files will be played only up to 192k.

when i play a flac file with 384k it will be downsampled to 192k
foobar2k plays it with 384k.
seems there is a bug? in audio decoder to play bitperfect only up to 192k and resample everything above.

i know mpc be is mainly for video files
but would be great if this could be fixed.


the request:
support for sacd iso and dsd64/128 would be cool.

Blu-ray menu's are not supported by many if not all free to use media players. If you want it, find a paid one.

both mpc.hc and mpc-be doesn't work with 384 khz as a shared sample rate.

the terrible creative AE-5 supports up to 32 bit 384khz i have one here.

just to make that clear 32 bit works fine.

but MPC Audio Renderer in shared mode works.

the default "directsound: system default" doesn't work.

and foobar doesn't really work too: Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error code (0x88880001)
i guess both have the same error but mpc-be doesn't show it.

i use a yamaha mcr 870d with built in usb dac
ESS SABRE 32 ES9010.
(supports 32 bit 384k pcm and up to 128 dsd)
it will show incoming frequency in display.

i use mpc audio renderer with wasapi exclusive mode


mpc be plays 44,1, 48, 96, 192 all fine
but everything above 192 will be downsampled to 192k

Use wasapi exclusive for maximum quality.

the 384khz test file are wrongly labelled too it is clearly 16 bit not 24 as the name says.

they couldn't be more different and for VD we have a native menu thanks to windows natively supporting it.

the PCM is fine that's not really any worse if done correctly. you can read more about this on jriver page they have a nice write up about this topic but i can't remember if it was lossless.

yep most soundcards / usb dacs cannot read dsd data
only pcm
even if you cannot hear a difference sacd iso support would be nice (even when its only converted to pcm)
just to be able to play them.

if mpc be would support sacd isos there is no need to use foobar2k anylonger :)



some "pay" players like dvd fab media player have probs with blu ray menus, and power dvd...
well it can play blu rays and dvds but for everything else its not good.

mpc be is the perfect player
fast, stable and very good codec support for video and audio. :cool:

about audio playback i have a small question:
when i open a cue file and play a full album
in the seekbar of mpc be the full flac file is shown
like one big track.
makes it hard to seek inside a single song.

would help if there would be small chapter lines in seekbar to see start and end of each song in seekbar:

when i look into log file seems that supported output formats of my audio device are not properly found by mpc be
only 192k supported

i tested again with foobar2k with asio, wasapi and with sacd plugin with asio output
foobar2k works with all 3 outputs with 352k and 384k
i use latest yamaha usb driver

WASAPI Audio renderer using IAudioClient::IsFormatSupported() to detect supported format list. Audio drives(or system) don't tell about 384Khz. Try uncheck "Use system layout channels".

even with normal build 4105 :)


edit: but dsd files making problems with that setting

dsd64 with 2.8 mhz is converted to pcm 352800 hz, plays ok
dsd128 with 5.6 mhz is converted to pcm 705600 hz !

that is not supported by my usb dac, max is 384k.
display of my yamaha shows "705600 hz" but its not suported so it sounds distorted with lots of noise.

nice device and has a very good headphone amp with enough power to run 600 ohm hifi headphones :)
also good if you watch movies and play pc games (no probs so far, but only in stereo)
and with cd drive and usb port you can listen to music without using pc.
