I only see a problem with madVR. Does not depend on the decoder and the player. Intel HD 4000, Win8.1 x64.
Confirming this issue as well, thought I was just unlucky, but with madVR i experience this, but switching to EVR no issues.
And then downgrading back to 1.5.6, and testing and no issues present.
Geforce GTX 1660, Win 10 x64
And just wondering where would one find version 1.5.8.6183?

Ah, sorry, didn't know. So I guess introduction of that 'caused the issue.
So simply disabling it fixes that issue.
Thanks, but in that case, if it's the cause of this flickering issue, would that be fixable in future versions or would that be more specific to the GPU?
Also, thanks hubi for link.

Hey, I'm posting it here, doesn't matter HC or BE.
Recently I upgraded my Windows to 20H2 from 1709 and my 5.1 channel layout is changed in Windows sound settings to rear speakers 0x3f (it was side 0x60f before).
Now I know old 5.1 standard has "black input color" as back/rear speakers, but standard has changed to side speakers and movies/series etc. all have 0x60f source file as seen in the LAV audio status.
I also opened a reddit thread with pictures: reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/msdjvy/51_channel_pairs_are_changed
Well, now in MPC renderer even though exclusive wasapi selected and use system channel layouts not selected, my channels are remapped to 0x3f eventually from 0x60f source.
What to do now? Anyone has this issue?

It has nothing to do with this topic, it is a problem (or not) of your system.

Options -> page: Internal Filters -> tab: Video Decoders -> button: Video Decoder configuration -> uncheck H.264
On toolbar (play pause, ...) there is the "GPU" icon if Hardware decoder is used.
No, same videocodec - H.264
Looks like possible GPU hardware defect -> bad VRAM or perhaps driver bug. Please update to latest driver of your video card. Have you another GPU laying around? It doesn't have to be a "big one", just for testing simple video playback.
All drivers are updated. For the video card and even for Windows, I checked Radeon Software and the Driver Booster app. Also checked Wndows Update.
https://i.postimg.cc/V6xZbp6B/1.png
https://i.postimg.cc/d3GHR6ZM/2.png
This is how it was configured. I disabled h264, the GPU icon is now missing from that 1st picture.
If this was due to a bug in my current video card driver then I might have to wait for the next update, and if it's MPC-BE then it could be some incompatibility with this driver and GPU, because this hardware is from 2014. I don't have another GPU at this moment.
I'll keep monitoring and if the bug reappears I'll let you know. I'll also check later with the old options back again. It may have been temporary.
P.S. I just found this link mentioning a similar problem:
https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/issues/835
P.S.2: disabling h264 there made using the seek bar much more faster/responsive. I can now fast-forward or rewind any video way better. For the record, the bug also affects files ripped from DVDs, which are all in MPEG-2.
In this case: https://pastebin.com/XuzR7G6F

I can not forget this video. The GPU looks so broken. What CPU do you have. Perhaps with integrated graphics?
I do not like that the frame rate is being reported as variable in mediainfo.
Also the 2:3 pulldown is bad.
Better get the Blu-ray with "native 24p" but you must use 23 Hz mode of GPU.
@cmhrky
Thanks. Updated in r6223.
@Perenista
If you have problems with the video, please enable statistics (Ctrl+J) and take a screenshot. This will provide a lot of useful information for developers.
Please take a screenshot of the active video decoder (Play > Filters > MPC Video Decoder).
I don't know which video renderer you are using. But for madVR, some users are advised to disable all flushes (madVR > rendering > windowed mode > don't flush)

This is what I can say about this DVDRip:

Now with MPEG-2 disabled, for D3D11:
https://i.postimg.cc/kG4rmB2T/XONA.png
I am only using madVR because I was told this is the only way to correctly display UHD-4K rips (also MKV) using HEVC, and this is my current config:
Monitor: W2452V (LG)
Video card: AMD Sapphire, Radeon R7 265
Both are not 4K ready, the monitor is more than 10 years old.
This is how madVR is configured here:
https://i.postimg.cc/RVDsW-gYC/XX3.png
I just changed all to DON'T FLUSH.
About my video card, I doubt it is defective because I've been using MPC-HC (not BE) for many years and only recently when I switched to MPC-BE I started seeing these bugs.
Then Aleksoid1978 told as a response to another user, which said:
>>>>>>>>>>>

1.5.6 don't have D3D11 Native Decoder.
So this is the problem here: the D3D11 native decoder. Once you disable it, the problems go away. You need to fix this for all graphic cards, not just the one I am using.
Meaning this is not video card related and not even based on whether I am using H.264.
It has affected a file using MPEG-2 as well.
Another problem with this bug is that you can't predict exactly when it's going to happen. Most of the time the videos are playing fine.
Klaus1189
1st May 2021, 19:40
You can "fix" D3D11 by yourself: If your GPU is behaving strange with it, just below where you disabled H.264 and MPEG-2 there is "Use D3D11 decoder".
Disable it and MPC-BE is set up like all the previous versions.
New nightlies can be found in signature of v0lt ;)
The thing about displaying 4K HEVC correctly is a bit strange, if you're fine with watching a movie shot in 24/1.001 then watching it in 60 Hz in 3:2 pulldown. Get the Blu-ray and use 23 Hz setting of your monitor/TV. But beware it is a rabbit hole.

I found a bug. If you crop h264 video using bitstream filter, mpc-be 1.5.7.6178 beta is not showing it correctly. Other video players output without problems
https://dropmefiles.com/JeYmx
I used this command -bsf:v h264_metadata=crop_left=0:crop_right=0:crop_top=60:crop_bottom=60
https://stackoverflow.com/a/33422359/8962418
@megapro17
If you want to crop a video frame without re-encoding, then specify the cropping parameters in the container properties. Containers
MP4 and MKV support cropping options.
Cropping via data in SPS for MP4 and MKV is not supported correctly and may not be supported at all. This is in conflict with the container metadata, which has a higher priority.

Also, how to remove that SPS data lol? After entering h264_metadata=crop_left=0:crop_right=0:crop_top=0:crop_bottom=0 video still remains streched. i have backup but anyway interesting
