Hi, I'm new to HDR and I can't solve my problem, I've been at a dead end for ~9 months.
My system:
Windows 11 Pro 64bit with all current Updates
MPC-BE 1.8.4 64bit
AMD Adrenalin Radeon-Treiber 25.6.1 (WHQL)
Acer Swift Edge SFE16-42 with AMD Ryzen 7 7735U APU
16"16:10, 3840x2400 OLED
Some 2160p HDR videos work perfectly in window mode but get a little bit colder and lifeless when i put them on fullscreen.
Are there any test videos I can use to check if the problems are with my files?
@Klaus1189
The size of subtitles is small and we download them all at once. But with audio tracks it is impossible. Therefore we create only one connection for the preferred audio track.
Some 2160p HDR videos work perfectly in window mode but get a little bit colder and lifeless when i put them on fullscreen.
1. It looks like you're using exclusive fullscreen.
2. It's also possible you're using DXVA2 instead of D3D11. Press Ctrl+J and see what is written in the statistics.
3. Problem with AMD graphics :-)

I've started using RTX HDR (sue me), but I'm a bit confused with the settings. It seems like this (https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1b03yfg/rtx_hdr_paper_white_gamma_reference_settings/) is outdated now after subsequent updates and the default settings should be correct, but then again it is patently obvious that at least saturation should still be -25, at least if you don't want everyone to have excessive sun tan. But is 0 contrast really the right way to go now? And if so, should the mid-gray value be based on the +25 contrast column if 0 contrast is the new +25, or have mid-grays also been adjusted so that I should follow the 0 contrast column?

Resetting the shader list.
1. Install MPC-BE using the installer (requires administrator rights).
2. If you have previously used MPC-BE, open the %APPDATA%\MPC-BE folder and delete the Shaders and Shaders11 subfolders.
3. Launch MPC-BE. The Shaders and Shaders11 folders will be restored for your account.

Hi guys. Just moved over from 'hc' to 'be' as I was having trouble with subtitles for a particular show.(wife getting hard of hearing, we're old)
Couple things. First of all, this place still exists, holy moley... :D
Also, never on top does not seem to work with be set to full screen. Normal, or me..??
Thanks.
Edit; nevermind, seems double clicking what I want on tops does the job. Carry on.

Most mkvs already have them inside, and the ones that don't, it isn't really a challenge to find them.
MPC-BE can display a movie's title from MP4 metadata in the progress bar header.
Which of the MP4 meta tags is used? I would like to add it via an FFMETADATA1 file I am already using to add chapters to the MP4.
I already tried to extract metadata from files where it works to discover which tags they used, but it was insufficient.
The global tags "comment" and "title" don't seem to work ("title" in a [CHAPTER] block sets a title for a chapter successfully, though).

https://kodi.wiki/view/Video_file_tagging#Overview_and_Comparison
'Šnam' atom.
It seems to be not an issue of MPC-BE, but of ffmpeg: If I try to add metadata from one file which contains both global tags and chapters, the tags get recognized but not inserted properly.
I want to prefer the metadata file, though; using explicit command line meta tags is not suitable for me.
Testing more for a separate thread...

I've found the weirdest fix to a bug that I can remember. There has been discussion in Reddit for example about how for many users RTX HDR limits the max nits in the app options to a much lower value than the monitor is actually capable of. I have this problem, and guess what fixes it every single time? Not restarting the NVidia App, not turning HDR off and back on again, not rebooting the system, but simply opening Windows settings and navigating to the screen where it shows your monitor's peak brightness among other specifications. It's almost as if NVidia needs to be convinced of your monitor's capability: "Oh, okay, I guess you really can go further". What is frustrating is that it keeps forgetting, have to do this every time after turning the monitor off and on again. I'm not even sure it has any actual effect, the bug might just be that it only displays the wrong info rather than actually messing with how RTX HDR works (should do some testing at some point), but I do this just in case as long as they (hopefully) fix it for good at some point.

The primary reason why it takes them so long to fix is because people report problems on random forums like Doom9 instead of directly to NVIDIA.

Hi,
I've tried using AI to port a DX9 debanding shader to DX11.

Known issues:
- Not accurate enough
- Too simple, may not be able to handle complicated scene

NVidia has acknowledged this problem and said it is looking for a solution. This was quite a long time ago already, but I doubt it would hurry them along if I complained about it now. Anyway, this is a function integrated into MPCVR, maybe someone here will even benefit from this bandage solution, who knows.

Hi guys, using MPC-BE 1.8.5 (portable version) and noticed that for .wmv files it is using LAV as the splitter (source filter) and some files out of sync. So I went into MPC settings and looked under Source Filters and see no option for .wmv (asf) files whatsoever but under Audio/Video decoders there are options for wmv. Hmmm, am I blind or is there no wmv selection/option for source filter? I would like to use something other than LAV to split wmv files due to the out of sync problems (perhaps use internal W10 wmv filter) but I can't figure out how to select that... Thanks :-)

So I went into MPC settings and looked under Source Filters and see no option for .wmv (asf) files whatsoever but under Audio/Video decoders there are options for wmv. Hmmm, am I blind or is there no wmv selection/option for source filter?
Method 1.
1. MPC-BE > Options > External Filters. Do not set the priority to "Prefer" for LAV Splitter Source and LAV Splitter.
2. LAV Splitter Configuration > Input formats > asf = uncheck
After these steps you will have a system "WM ASF Reader" filter for ASF/ WMV connected.
Method 2.
1. Add the necessary filters to the list of external filters.
2. Do not change the priorities for filters. You can even uncheck them.
3. Specify the filter for the desired format in the "Priority" settings panel.
If the source filter supports this format, it will be used.

In my experience, if using LAV Splitter for WMV, you also need to use its A/V decoders for best result.

Hi v0lt, thanks for your detailed answer :-) but no luck with either Methods 1 or 2...
Method 1:
Never added LAV to external filters so it's not listed there
Did go to LAV splitter config and unchecked asf
result : wmv files still play with LAV doing the splitting (even though asf is disabled in LAV filter settings)
Method 2:
Added WM ASF Reader to list of external filters
Did not change priorities (later tried prefer but that didn't change the below result)
Under priorities - for wmv I added the ASF Reader
result: wmv still play with LAV doing the splitting (even though I left asf disabled in LAV splitter config as per Method 1)
Wow, so weird. Guess I am stuck with LAV until I install w11 or W12 ;-)

Check this registry key (if exists) which controls preferred source filter:

But maybe it actually is a different format with wrong file extension?

Hi, yes that registry key exists. I have hundreds of .wmv & .asf files & they all have the problem I described (I checked a few of them that I had used for the testing with MediaInfo to ensure that indeed they are wmv type). Am sure something got borked on my W10 system, I only noticed this problem because I saw some wmv out of sync and checked the filter chain ;-)

In MPC Video Renderer, is Jinc2m scaler supposed to be the best option? I often see sharpness mixed up with "best," but I recall Jinc (paired with anti-ringing) was for a long time a good all-rounder in madvr. Would Jinc2m be equally safe scaling HD content and DVDs/standard def? Thanks!
huhn
26th July 2025, 08:31
it's not safe.
it's also not comparable to jinc in madVR.
try lanczos3 and jinc2m and use the one you like but lanczos3 will ring and jinc2m will go over board. lanczos3 could be combined with AR from jinc2m and improve it quite a lot.

It looks like the file association doesn't work with Windows 11. I've tried associating MPC-BE with all file types in the installer and the application itself, but neither does anything.
Windows itself allows me to change the default app, but only for each file extension individually...
Can this be fixed so that the file association feature in MPC-BE works again to associate all files extensions at once?

If I'm not completely wrong, this is a "security feature" already in Windows 10: Applications are not any more allowed to assign file associations, only the user may do that in the Windows Control Center dialog.

That's weird. How does it work for you exactly? I do the following:
MPC-BE options, formats, "admin" button, "all" button, OK, OK
And that simply does nothing. No error, but also no change in the file associations.
