When using MPC-BE 1.7.0.17 and setting the renderer to MPC Video Renderer 0.8.0.2224 or later, noise occurs on the screen and the image
is not displayed properly.

There is no problem with MPC-HC 2.2.1.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I've always been curious as to what advantage comes from using external LavFilters over recent MPC-BE internal filters (source, video, audio), specially MPC Video Decoder 1.7.0.

In the latter settings, is there any advantage on using D3D12cb over default 'D3D11, DXVA2'? I tried the former on Intel graphics and the green line graph on 'Ctrl + J' mas more jagged.

There are no advantages other than special use. Copyback mode will always be slower than native modes.

@wyup The LAV filter splitter is much better because it allows for more control of subtitles, audio, etc. if you've taken the time to dial in some settings, which I have. In the BE player, I use it as an external filter.. but for decoders in BE, I use the BE video and audio decoders.

Copy-back still has a use-case, depending on the renderer, e.g. inverse-telecining of a DVD, but this doesn't really apply to most people anymore.

automatic stream selection. AFAIK there is nothing like that in mpc-be.

the option to disable hardware decoding niece but very good reasons to do so.

there is also the "issue" with hardware decoding and madVR.
where the d3d11 -> d3d9 interop cost more then a copyback operation...
with a dvd you are usually better of using software decode.

Name the version MPC-BE to be more specific. Please provide your problematic samples or take them from here (https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples).

We can also remember that recent releases of LAV Filters had problems. :p

added:
There are reports that MPC-BE 1.7.0.20 has problems with some files after updating FFmpeg. We haven't reproduced the problem yet.

well yes ffmpeg had problem with "hevc".
that's why lav had issues and if you use the same version lavfilter used at the time you should have the same issue.

Hello everyone.
Guys, mpc-be is only seeing 4 audio files in a video that i have here.
Fallout series.
But, if i open the video with mkvtoolnix, i can see 32 audio files.

There's anyway to force MPC-BE to show them all ?

I tried the Windows Media Player 2022 in Windows 11 Pro, my main PC, and it showed all audio files.
But i prefer MPC-BE, far superior.
Sorry my english.

One way to fix is in the settings for external filters to add lav splitter and lav splitter source. Mark both as prefer and checked.

In the settings for internal filters, uncheck everything on the source filters tab.

It's simple - most of the audio tracks and subtitles are simply turned off, you can check in MKVToolnix - "Track enabled" flag, it is in the "No" state.
LAV Splitter doesn't show them either.

I think there are still problems in the VP9 decoder.
I am now trying 1.7.0.38, using the internal DXVA2 VP9 decoder instead of the software decoder on Intel UHD 620. Every time I open a VP9 file (I have tested mp4 and mkv container), if I close the file via Ctrl+C or File->close, or open another file after or during the playback (Via File-> open, or PageUp/PageDown, etc), the whole player crashed. If I restart the playback after reaching the end of the video, the picture will be corrupted and sometimes the player also crashes.

Sample video file:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/vrplwq

---------------------

Another small problem related to mp4. MPC-BE crashes on some of my mp4-container file if I click on the seek bar. No crashes if I disable the internal MP4 source splitter, or rollback to an extremely old version of MPC-BE.

I get for 2 days my first HDR OLED Monitor (ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM). This Monitor have 1000 Nits which is very good and much more then my LG OLED C1. I use the latest MPC-BE with latest MPC Video Renderer 0.8.1.2230. Which setting i need to have the best HDR Performace with MPC-BE and MPC Video Renderer? Or is a other Video Renderer better? I use Onboard GPU from my RYzen 7800X3D.
I use this Settings for now but sometime when i use Fullscreen HDR not work. In Windows Mode is working good.

Just testing MPC-VR and am having some problems with trying to figure out how to get my settings correct so that the video levels follow what I am doing with madVR. After lots of testing, with the help of many suggestions (on AVS and other places) that are not madVR specific, I have my chain set up as Limited -> Full -> Limited:

madVR TV Levels (16-235) -> NVIDIA GPU Full (0-255) -> TV Limited

Can I, and if so how, do this with MPC-VR? I cannot find the equivalent output level setting. There's a setting in the Video Decoder for setting the RGB output levels, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Is MPC-VR output Full only? The only thing that seems to stop my blacks from being completely crushed is to change my TV black level settings to Full, but this would be changing my whole chain to Full -> Full -> Full.

I only use this (OLED) TV as a HTPC display. I don't mind that the levels are restricted and it is set to limited as instructed for calibration (ColourSpace ZRO) so I don't really want to change it if possible. I do want to change from madVR though, so would prefer to switch to something like MPC-VR. Does anybody know if this is possible?

Since I use an OLED display, whose calibration workflow in ColourSpace (full registered product, not Zero) suggests calibrating to Limited, I am interested in an answer to this question.
Is this something that could be done through shaders? If yes, how? I have zero knowledge about those... :-/

huhn

even if you calibrate in limited range full range will be calibrated too.
just set it to full range and let displaycal verify the results.
why even use that software...

Hi, about MPC Video Renderer: how does the automatic HDR10 to SDR conversion work? Does it use any pixel shading LUT? Are maxCLL/maxFALL metadata values taken into account for tone-mapping?
How much is Dolby Vision decoding supported?
Does MPC-VR allow Windows color management, monitor ICC profile?
mpc offers different tone-mapping algorithms, will MPC-VR allow for bt.2446a (HDR10, DV), st2094-40 (HDR10+)?
libplacebo library has native Dolby Vision decoding and tone-mapping (Profile 5, BL), supports Direct3D 11, color management, custom shading.. Is it possible implementing it in MPC-VR?
Thanks for the good work.
