I will necessarily try to make, from auto options.
Here don't write that file was undersized, but it = 680mb
Log is normal, it's don't understand yet.
[09.02.2009 03:13:08 AM] Custom resolution settings: fixed width of 576 pixels
.
.
[09.02.2009 05:06:55 AM] Expected quality of first pass size: 97,68%
You said you'd use the Auto Options. You complain again about it being undersized. You didn't use the Auto Width. If you're going to use the Auto Width and make the AVI the size you want, then go into the Advanced Settings and tick the "Auto Width". Is this really so hard?
len0x
9th February 2009, 21:35
@Wu Tang
Whenever you final percentage quality of the first pass size is over 95%(in rare cases over 90% even) there is always a chance you will get undersized file. This is exactly what is happening to you. As manono said if you want to hit exactly 700Mb you either increase resolution or use auto option.

Then don't complain about it being undersized sometimes. That's the chance you take when setting Fixed anything. You got the best possible AVI, given your settings. It looks very good, doesn't it?

It's true.
But bit/pixel = 26, it's don't so much, may be and higher.
Look at other logs for interesting, where didn't undersized: (attach)
Still i now to do in version 2.45, there after first pass 75%, аnd in 2.55 version was 96%, expected quality different in that two versions. What do you say about it?

File don't undersized. It is a riddle!!!
The difference between 2.45 and 2.55 is mainly XviD version and VAQ in it (which increases compressibility, although I'm a bit surprised it gained 20%...). Also from the logs I can see that 2.45 encode had color correction enabled.

Hi,
No it is not a riddle since AGK 2.53.
The answer is in this thread first page logchange:
2.53 beta
...
- XviD now uses VAQ if source is not a cartoon (XviD setting in hidden options control's that) or have burnt-in subs.
The VAQ for Xvid has been discussed in this thread a few pages before and also in a specific thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1103422#post1103422
What does it change?
It gives a 10 to 15% more compressability with no or little quality degradation except for anims and burn-in subs (ringing)
It benefits more to P-frames, little to I-frames and not to B-frames; see specific thread, test from Brother John
For your problem, same source (Рабочий стол\8.avi)
- one made by AGK 2.45, no VAQ [10.02.2009 07:30:37 PM] Expected quality of first pass size: 75,65%- one made by AGK 2.55 with VAQ [09.02.2009 05:06:55 AM] Expected quality of first pass size: 97,68%
This is an improvement; for the same file size you have better quality !!
PLEASE - If you do not understand what I am explaining, do me a favor, tell me/us you do not understand; I prefer coming back and trying to explain in another way than to think someone just refuses my suggestion(s). Thank you.

Hi,
Following our PM exchanges..
...And what is mean "VAG"
Tomorrow i will attach the screenshots.
Do you download my attach above?
- It is VAQ (not VAG) for Variable adaptive Quantization; more infos in the hread I have linked .
- I have seen your logs, all seems fine, 2 have more than 90% quality and may be undersized;when the codec is at/or near 100% quality, it cannot render the wanted size, so it will be undersized.
I know, now, that you do not want to encode with "autowidth" but maybe you could try (advanced settings) minimum width of 576 so you will always have 576 wide except when comptest or first pass is near 100%; in this case AGK will try to use a bigger width for the SAME filesize of 700Mb
Also from the logs I can see that 2.45 encode had color correction enabled.
And is it well or no?
And in 2.55 is it?
Usually it is good. From the help:
- "Color correction" option allows you to slightly change color gamut closer to what the source actually contains (gamut often is changed automatically when doing MPEG2 -> MPEG4 conversion because of the tool involved, i.e. avisynth). You may notice that sometimes your XviD/DivX encodes are looking rather dark comparing to the original input source. In those cases usage of this option will help making it a little bit lighter. Not every MPEG2 input source require this correction and this option doesn't force it but rather switches ON the check if color correction is needed and applied. If color correction is needed then the encoding process can be 10-20% slower than one without it.

thenkyou BigDid, i found your post interesting and cleared up a few things for me,
it's a shame that VAQ can cause Ringing around burnt in subs, otherwise we can have it on all the time by default,
i remember the ringing effect so well, took a very long time for the ASP codecs to correct that problem, i remember encoding years ago, and all encodes suffered with that problem (DivX/Xvid),
i'm just glad that the ASP codec developers corrected that problem before they moved on to AVC codecs, i hated the ringing effect around writing or credits, was so annoying, i remember doing Armageddon film all that time ago, and both codecs would cause ringing, but now the encodes turn out perfect,
it's a shame that VAQ causes the same problem, 10-15% increase in compression is not to be sneezed at, if only there was a way for the codec to detect if ringing would occur and disable VAQ automatically if that is the case (we can all wish can't we)
but at least AutoGK has given the option to us if we do use it (or will give it to us hopefully)

at this moment what i can remember that converting dvd with ac3 2 channel to 700MB & 128 MP3 out file is not 128 but 192 and log also shows 192.

I have bounced on your FUW/slider idea and I am also toying (again) with other Cqm. I should have made advertisement here (done) :)
Atm the Heini (Heini-MR, Sap modded) seems just a little less compressible than AGK sharp and gives a better overall encode and LESS ringing with medium quality. V3-HR is a little better than Heini but also a little less compressible...all this done with AGK-Pal
VAQ really changes the way matrixes encodes; before Heini was better and less compressible than V3-HR; now it is the other way around.

you can't, AutoGK doesn't support that kind of encoding, all or none is how it work's
you could re-author the disk itself, and cut the film down to the spec you want, but this would require a few steps to do and some re-encoding, a lot of work would be required,
there are other programs that do support this option, but most of them if not all are commercial, AutoGK is FREE!

that's what confused me too, why i thought it couldn't be done, you wanted to encode 10 minutes into the material to 25 minutes,
not sure how the audio would be able to sync up with just that section,
i'm also confused like you are, when does one stop AuoGK running so the files can be altered, and when restarting AuoGK, will AutoGK continue off where it left off,
6.6 How can I select only subset of input VOBs? (i.e. remove credits for instance)
- There is no direct way of doing that but this can be done:
1) start the job
2) when DGIndex launched restore it from taskbar and hit Esc
3) go to agk_tmp folder (in output dir) and delete demuxed audio file(s) (i.e. AC3/MPA/WAV)
4) select subset you need
5) "save as" and overwrite partially created D2V file
6) encoding will proceed as usual
is a little vague,
and what is a subset, and will that subset be the section your after,
and wouldn't the MP3 track also need to be edited as well?
len0x
12th February 2009, 21:22
Step 4 in details: there are begin and end markers near the slider in DGIndex (you really should spent some time learning the tool - it is quite good on its own) and when subset is selected it will also only demux the audio associated with the video. This would effectively substitute whatever DGIndex was going to do automatically.

Hi,
Besides DG-index there is also "Mpg2Cut2" , I use it for cutting TV captures (Mpeg2). It can cut and/or combine Mpeg2 streams (Vob also), see:

Hi
I riped film where i select interval, autogk did re-running first pass:
...
Why did it do that?
Oh boy AGAIN!?
Ok, I think you have all the elements to build the answer to your own question. If somebody (outside Wu-Tang) thinks he doesn't have the elements, please let me know, we could start a constructive discussion.
I will not answer this question and maybe other to come UNTIL
1/ You make an encode with "AUTO-WIDTH" and post your log, as already asked in one of my previous posts
2/ You tell us why you have not used Auto-width until now.
Until I have these 2 answers, take the time to read/re-read the tutorial, specifically;
The chances of this happening are less if you choose a Minimum width, but it can still happen. If you choose maximum width then AutoGK will try lower resolutions and stop when you desired maximum is reached even if compressibility would allow it to go higher. This might result in undersized final files, so you have to be careful. With time you'll learn the relative compressibility of different movies, but if you change from the default Auto width, you might pay attention to the Compression Test results when they show up in the Log Window. Ordinarily you'll want a result of between 60-80%, and if you get below 50% or so, the quality will suffer noticeably, or if you get above 95% then you resulting AVI may be undersized. In that case you may wish to abort the process and start over with a different Horizontal width, use original audio or use an extra CD
As english seems not to be your native langage maybe you can try a translation of the tutorial:

I was afraid of that as its not something that is easily fixable. The only way I can think of is to do some tweaks for the case above when I can lower upper limit for considering encode to be oversized from current 98% to something like 95% and therefore switching b-frames off would happen before first pass avoiding re-run.
It seems to be that adjustment of the matrix has different effect with VAQ than without it and the previous values was calculated based on many days (or even weeks) of gathering stats that I'm not able to reproduce now... (That is one of the reasons why support for new codecs would not be as good as for XviD for the foreseeable future even if added to AutoGK. I mean if I have to change parameters of the codec automatically, one static setting won't be much a problem).

That's what I loved about GK:) I had the luxury of tinkering with options. The downside was that i had read tutorials. But now that downside has turned out to be an upside. I hardly have to ask questions in the forum:)
Sorry for the OT, just want to say thanks for GK and AutoGK.
And welcome back. How ever brief it might be:)
I cannot agree more. I have been using GK for years without any problems. Although there are other similar one, none can beat GK.

2) Bit/pixel result 0.17, and i want 0.30

Yes, i read this tutorial in my language. About VAQ there not. So i ask in our forum.
Edit: Len0x, what comes out is that with the introduction of VAQ the comptest and the settings adjustments are not as accurate as they were.
You are absolutely true!
P.S
Don't think that i don't undersatand something! Because sometimes i don't explain something.
So don't laugh at me.
Try to write me in my language and then i will tell you: Oh boy AGAIN!?

you said
"(That is one of the reasons why support for new codecs would not be as good as for XviD for the foreseeable future even if added to AutoGK"
were you talking about DivX as well, or not,
or more to the point, does AutoGK still work with DivX fully or are the stats for DivX codec Uncalibrated as well,
reason i ask is the DivX has become my more favourable codec of choice recently, and it also has been well supported over the last year, 6.3 - 6.8, won't say no more on the codec side (Rulez),

Suggestion:
In case of quality of first pass still at/or over 100% after Redo 1st pass without Bframes, re-redo a first pass without B-frames AND without VAQ (like old AGK); it should decrease compressability by 30? % and gain some bitrate and a little quality

or more to the point, does AutoGK still work with DivX fully or are the stats for DivX codec Uncalibrated as well
I probably haven't touched DivX stats even longer than XviD (probably since the time divx 6 was introduced). But having said that - DivX has much less parameters to tweak (an no custom matrixes at all), so I would not expect it to change drastically. Anyway this is about prediction of how big first pass will be, so at the end of the first pass we have 100% accurate result and if you don't see first pass being re-run then it means it works as expected (but if you do see re-runs then its still no problems as the end result is as good as without them, but slightly slower overall).

@ Len0x,
Made some tests for the VAQ and 100% quality limit; here it is in case it can be useful:

Thanks, but let me put this into prospective - I have based my current stats on 500+ encodes of 30+ different sources with different codec parameters, so one particular sample is not going to help me :) Now you see why its quite difficult to reproduce all that work. So at the moment I'd rather introduce an option to disable VAQ or leave it on and have re-runs as it won't affect final quality (as I mentioned in the post above) - after all that is why re-runs were introduces in the first place: to safeguard first pass size prediction.

No problem, I would also appreciate to have a VAQ checkbox :)
My last set of encodes were 4 episodes CloneWars 3D-anim. I tried H263_NoVaq (cartoon mode), H263 With VAQ and AgkSharp; ended doing my 4 episodes manually (AGkPal) with H263_VAQ at 250/260Mb for 21mn episode, 720 width, near 100% quality with B-frames. Superb.
The above post may have some utility for VAQ/100%/redo discussion so I will let it.

This results is bad for me.
1) Resolution must be 4:3, and not: Chosen resolution is: 720x544 ( AR: 1,32 ) It's false!
Hi,
Ok you want 4:3, use appropriate option in hidden option; from tutorial:
- "Detect 4:3 Aspect ratio and force it" option checks if AR is between 1.25 and 1.4 and if yes then crops video appropriately to get perfect 4:3 ratio (so that you won't get black bars when watching on 4:3 TV).
2) Bit/pixel result 0.17, and i want 0.30
From my above tests; a good Vaq & Bframes encode (enough final file size) gets 0.25/0.27 Qf (bit/pixel) If you really want 0.30 or more go Vaq_Nobframe (0.32) or NoVAQ with Bframes (0.33). To use one or the other is your choice (visual or other criteria). How-to
2.1. Vaq_NoBframe, get enough final size for a 2pass encode (trial and error) to get AGK 2.55 redo the first pass and switch B-frames off => Qf 0.32
2.2. NoVAQ_Bframes, use older AGK (2.52 or older) to get a Qf of 0.33 as standard 2pass encode with enough final file size.
Other possible solutions: learn to use AGK-PAL or a more complex Xvid encoder like Auto-Mkv, Stax-Rip, Avi-demux etc...
... So don't laugh at me.
Try to write me in my language and then i will tell you:
I never laughed, never intended to; the "Oh Boy again" is more related to my irritation/exasperation.
As you made the effort to answer, it is my duty (in the sense of honor) to come back and discuss further.
Concerning langage, it is a forum rule (rule n° 13) to use english only and this can be very compelling/constraining at times but it is the price to pay for quality (at least I think so).
Regards.

If 0.27 QF, then it's normally, i agree.
I understood.
If i want to use 2.55 version, without VAQ, can i swith it off in that version? Or how can i use vaq_nobframe, i didn't quite understand - "2.1. Vaq_NoBframe, get enough final size for a 2pass encode (trial and error) to get AGK 2.55 redo the first pass and switch B-frames off => Qf 0.32"
Also can i use 2.45 version with new xvid version?
Yes, i used some tools such as Auto-mkv, but for the present, i don't have the need to encode HQ video.

Hi,
Short: get enough file size;
long by trial and error choose a final file size that will give more than 100% quality at first pass
Short: get AGK 2.55 redo the first
Long over 100% AGK will redo the first pass and switch B-frames off so you will get an encode with VAQ but No Bframes
Read and UNDERSTAND the logs you are posting in this thread since a few days/weeks; nobody will do your encodes for you; exemple last 2.55 log:

Yes you can update the Xvid encoder and use it with an older AGK, the new core will be used, not the new options (VAQ)
If i have questions, then i would certainly ask you, ok? I strongly advise you to do the testings by yourself and not come here with questions covered by the tutorial or the FAQ (exception being VAQ, I agree) or not agreeing to the answers given.
I say exasperation and you come back, "I will certainly ask you" my duty is done, my patience has now gone out to come back again and again on the same or derivation of the same concept. The only hope I have is being helpful to others with this exchanges. So make good encodes and do NOT remember me.

Dearest campers,
For starters, I know very little about video encoding. Last time I tried (not with AGK) I still ended up with large files of dubious quality. Although like many of you I suspect, I am easily still able to bamboozle complete ignorami.
Well, glory be - I just up'd my Athlon 3000+ to a dual core 4400 *woohoo* - "2005, Here I come baby...!" (So I'm gonna try again :)
OK, so I grabbed the latest AutoGK v2.55 as per above and then did the hunt for Aviutl. It "looks" to me (from Googling) that 99c2 is still the latest version.
Please see my post near on 1 year ago: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=728899#post728899 re "englishafying" it. Note credit goes to "setarip_old" (not me!)
Re that, the page for Aviutl http://ruriruri.zone.ne.jp/aviutl/ is down for me ATM, so maybe it's gone for good or maybe it'll be back in 5m....?
Anyway, I'm posting this to ask if the englishafied 99c2 still works properly on AutoGK v2.55. It "looks" to me like it does, but refer to first paragraph. ;)
Speileng: AVIUTL - yeah, not only are the spoons missing, but "there is no second i". I see the installer from AGK asks for your "Aviutil" location. :)
Thanks :)

Thanks for the find :)
99g4 seems to tolerate the english butchering as well as previous versions. It seems to run ok alone.
Yet the AutoGK 2.55 install deposits a file called "vobsub_au.auf" in the AVIUTL dir which is zero bytes. Then when you run AVIUTL, it throws the error "The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Aviutl\vobsub_au.auf is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
So I've run a few experiments and it doesn't matter which version of AVIUTL is there when 2.55 installs. It produces the same nothing file. And AutoGK is very unhappy about being reinstalled over the top. Had to uninstall first.
The only non-standard thing I've been doing with the AutoGK install is selecting "full" instead of default at each opportunity - plus I selected ESS support.
Anyone else having issues?
Maybe it sorts itself out after AGK invokes it. Dunno..!

I think he's confusing AviSynth with Aviutl an old frameserving utility.
@Grobblefoomer : Where did you download your AutoGk package?
There is no Aviutl in the original installer. And not needed.
Clean up your mess and start from scratch.
And please dont cumber/pollute this thread with questions which do not belong to this thema.

I understand as, when predicted comptest more than 95%, then file undersized even if switch off b-frames.
It happen when in film not enough dynamic scene.
