with newest version and by the setup delivered dgmpgdec. still encoding - however have to go now..

edit: ac3 and mp3 are both playing in a player... (tested with VLC)

I think encode above will finish fine as file sizes seem to be ok. Too bad you're gone - I don't quite get what's the difference to your previous failed attempt (is it DGIndex 1.0.12?) when you had 0 length files?

Chaser
4th February 2005, 13:26
it's very strange indeed. i however encoded the third episode this time and as you said - it worked flawlessly.

the first (!!) episode failed two times. i was running all of my tries with dgindex ver 1.1.0 - haven't testet the new one.

unfortunatelly i'm gone in half an hour - so no time to rerip the first episode from the dvd and reencode it :/

I'm gonna put 1.0.12 back just in case... More testing next week then.

1.90 will still be beta and will be out early next week.

Dunno yet, I have some stuff to do now as DGMPGDec is updated heavily...

I can reduce threshold to say 98.5%, so that your source would get FF automatically (have you seen any other moview like this?).

Found another one - It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World - 1963.

d2v found it as 98.1% film and so AutoGK used decomb which again caused the shimmering vertical blind effect.

I'm back.

Will try to encode the first episode again (where the crash occured) with all components delivered by setup.

Hi-

d2v found it as 98.1% film and so AutoGK used decomb which again caused the shimmering vertical blind effect.

Joe, have you checked the source to make sure it's not in there? After checking a number of DVD reviews for Mad World, some of them do mention aliasing and line jitter as problems with this transfer. Downsizing might accentuate the problem, although I don't know what resolution you used.

It's also possible that Decomb's deinterlacer is kicking in when it shouldn't, and is deinterlacing good frames. If you still have the files, you could add Show=True to Telecide (see the Decomb manual) to see if some of these places are being detected as interlaced. One solution is to raise the VThresh. Personally, I think the default is too low, and it frequently deinterlaces when it shouldn't, creating the kind of shimmering that you're noticing. A better solution, perhaps, is to disable the deinterlacer completely in cases where you have high percentage numbers in the Movie.d2v (add Post=0 to Telecide). That will have the added benefit of speeding up the encoding considerably.

You seem to be asking len0x to lower the percentage point at which ForceFILM is used, but I wouldn't recommend that. Although in your case it may have worked to create a jitter free, interlacing free encode (and maybe not), I've seen far too many cases where ForceFILMing with high percentages leaves behind interlaced frames. Quite often, particularly with older DVDs, such as this one, you'll get a drop to video at certain places, particularly at chapter breaks, and ForceFILM can leave behind interlacing at these places. To confirm or refute this, you can check the Movie.d2v and see if you get a string of 2 2 2 2, or 0 0 0 0 in various places in the middle of the film, as opposed to the very beginning or the very end. They may look something like this:

12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12

instead of this (as it should):

10 11 12 13 10 11 12 13

hello..
I read this in the FAQ sticky:
5.4 Will AutoGK support other input materials (AVI, MPG etc)?
- at the moment there is no immediate plans to support AVI and MPEG1 sources. But MPEG2 sources (including transport streams) and pure VOBs are supported starting from version 1.41 (File mode) *Update* The work is currently being done to support DV/AVI file input.

Any idea when it'll be available?
Will it be on the 1.90 beta?
Thanks.

Its not gonna be available in 1.90. Be patient.

Thanks to ydobon we have slightly improved look :) A couple of nasty bugs fixed (in TS and win9x support) plus a useful new feature: color correction using ColorMatrix plugin. Check it out.

When installing a new beta version, should we completely uninstall old versions, or can we just install on top of the old?

Sorry if I've missed a post on this.

len0x
9th February 2005, 18:29
Update can always be installed over the old version. If full installer ever requires uninstall of the previous version then you will see that upon launch.

It's adware/spyware that len0x has included with the program since version 1.81b. It's intended as an alternative to the donation system and RESPONSETARGET is compensating len0x in exchange for the privacy of his users. A few things:

1) It's safe to delete
2) AutoGK will run normally without it
3) If you choose to keep it, it will periodically pop up advertisements, as well as forward your web activity to dae.responsetarget.com (IE only).

More info in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87056).

-> No, I'm not - I use the 'maximize dgindex, stop it, load another instance, and overwrite the project using forcefilm' trick when this happens - I was just answering len0x's question - "have you seen other movies like this"

What this particular movie has is the first 5 or 6 minutes are a bright red cartoon-type intro with credits before it turns into the actual film/movie. Not a big deal. This was the same problem with the previously reported movie, except in that case the cartoon-like credits were at the end.

It would be nice if the algorithm could detect when the overall %film was thrown below the threshold because of one large block like in these 2 cases, and make an intelligent decision to override and consider the whole thing film. Kind of like this logic:

[if bunch of non-film at beginning or end] and [all film in middle] then [consider whole thing film with stupid intro or end credits]

;-)

The beauty of the adware is that you no longer have to feel bad about not donating, because by simply downloading the program you are providing len0x with income. The donation system was not quite working as expected (len0x's words (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=587508&highlight=its+not+quite+working+as+expected#post587508)), but now that len0x has struck a deal with RESPONSETARGET advertising, len0x is making money without having to resort to donations.

It's commercial software without charging for it. So much like people feel no compulsion to donate to commercial television channels like ABC, NBC or CBS (etc.) simply because they watch them, AutoGK is now funded by advertising dollars, and is no longer beholden to donations.

AutoGK is, however, entirely powered by a vast (http://www.virtualdub.org/donation) array (http://www.gabest.org/) of (http://sourceforge.net/project/project_donations.php?group_id=65889) free, open-source (http://www.neuron2.net) programs (http://sourceforge.net/projects/avisynth2) which receive no percentage of those advertising dollars so you might consider donating to one of those projects.

Having said all that, len0x will gladly take your money. I'm merely saying you should no longer feel bad for not donating, because just by simply using the program you are helping len0x out.

len0x
11th February 2005, 10:52
Again, this is not the place to discuss adware stuff. It will be considered OT and will be dealt appropriately with.

P.S. When adware actually starts working and I actually get some money from it I'll be telling ppl not to bother with donations myself. Until then all the gestures are appreciated.

I've been using beta 1.90b for the past few days doing some test encodes of some tv episodes. I'm using the divx codec instead of the xvid codec in these tests. I chose custom size settings for output. When I dictate for the file to be 700mb it comes out to 717mb. 350mb comes out to 358mb. 195mb comes out to 199mb. didn't know if anyone else is having this problem.

Thanks.

Don't you know that it is arccos-protected DVD and need special care when ripping. Pay attention to DVDDecrypter logs - were there any errors? Did you uncheck all the cells marked with ?

@MrFaust

Are you still with us? We seem to have a problem to solve...

Yes,i know....
I unchecked the first 11 cells in chapter 1,that were marked with .
I am familiar with these Arccos-protected DVDs...
I have succesfully ripped Resident Evil 2 and The Grudge...
There were no errors in the DVD Decrypter logs...

Edit: The succesful rips mentioned above, were done with older versions of AutoGK...
I haven't kept the log files,but i am 99% certain they had v.1.0.12 of DGindex,bundled...

The error is happening way into the movie itself - may be there are some more cells marked with in other chapters. Did you check?

bourtzovlakas
13th February 2005, 21:02
Yes,i did check...
...and from the log of DVD Decrypter, it appears that no dummy sectors were inserted...
Also i tried opening the VOB files manually in DGindex and i got the same error...

Did you try indexing it with DGIndex 1.0.12 manually?

Are you able to do large uploads? If yes, I've started discussion about the problem here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89341
You should identify which particular VOB is failing and either upload it in full to Neuron2 or cut out bad part of it.

Sorry but no...
At least not one complete VOB...
If you could give me instructions for cutting the "bad part", i think i can make an upload of 50 Mb...
But the connection available to me is not that stable...

I believe Lightning UK, should have this disk at his disposal...
...and i am quite certain his "uploading capabilities" are better than mine...
Maybe you should contact him...
