have you tried to rip the subs with vsrip and compared them to what is listed in the Stream Info ?
So maybe it's just wrong indexed in the Stream Info, like subs for dutch is in the Stream Info #1, but with SubRip #2.
You can also check this with IfoEdit...

Hi Ookz,
Why not use VirtualDubMod to convert to mkv. If you want to use AAC, then this option is good. But if it is mp3 then latest VDM can handle converting to mkv into smallest size. ( I think latest VDM has introduced better lacing schemes and file size are comparable with mkvtoolnix output - small )

Hello,
I just started using Auto GK yesterday and have already done 3 DVD backups with it. It is wonderful! I have, however, discovered one little quirk which, although not exactly a bug, I think probably should be worked out. On the third DVD backup I made (Barry Lyndon, Kubrick) I selected an output size of 1090 MB with auto-select between AC3 and MP3 on. The audio track for this DVD happens to be a 500 MB 6 channel AC3 file and I expected Auto GK to choose MP3 in order to have enough space for this 3 hour movie. But, it just muxed the AC3 creating a 600 MB video stream and 500 MB audio stream. I think that the algorithm to select between AC3 and MP3 should be worked out such that the AC3 track should only be muxed if it reflects a more appropriate portion of the total file size.
Thank you very much, this software is excellent! For the time being I have decided to just select AC3 or MP3 manually.

I guess you have a point, but look at the following (from the AutoGK guide att doom9).
"The Auto option will use 128kbit/s VBR MP3 audio for 1 CD rips and keep the original AC3 Dolby Digital soundtrack for 2 CD (or larger) rips."
Quite a simple algorithm don't you think ;) Can't really blame the app here.

C'mon you can demux video in vdubmod just in one step (by selecting no audio). And audio is still there, so you don't have to demux it.
That option would create uncessary questions from newbies...

Well, it's not about size actually. More appropriate would be select audio depending on comp test result. So if doing rip for more than 1 CD then AC3 is used first, but if resolution falls significally then it switches to MP3. Although we have to define which resolution we wanna keep with AC3 audio. (We can't go for max resolution, coz then MP3 will almost always be used)

5th December 2003, 13:15
Personally I opt for the mp3 rather than then ac3 when the compressability check at 704*xxx returns less than 45~50% if using ac3 (and only if I don't care about the movie as otherwise I would just increase the size by 1cd).

The thing is that I don't use any threads on startup! (when programs is crashing). I suspect some component(s) give me the trouble but I can't figure out which since I can't debug this stuff on HT enabled PC(well I don't have one).

I see. Just to note, Auto GK opted to resize this video to 352x224 in order to keep the AC3, but I would have wanted to keep the resolution around 500x325 or so. If you think that the algorithm works well I can always just select the format manually to suit my needs.

Len0x, can you (or have you tried to) make a call to the Win32 API function SetThreadAffinityMask(...) with a value of 1? That will set the app's affinity to a single processor and should work for hyperthreading CPUs as well.
Just a thought.

I have only one clue so far - bitrate depends on length, which depends on number of frames. so it worth checking that it's reported correctly in the log file.
p.s. was that 0.65 ? or 0.64 ? Coz .65 is supposed to produce large files that 0.64...

AutoGK beta 0.65:
Since one aspect of AutoGK should be educative, I think you should tighten up the nomenclature a bit.
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Audio size: 113044160
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Overhead: 9291776
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Video Size: 1345670464
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Target bitrate is: 1869kbps
Since Target Size is expressed in MBytes (shouldn't target size in the log and the drop-down target Size menu be shown as "MB" rather than "Mb"), I think this would look better as
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Audio size: 107.80 MB
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Overhead: 8.86 MB
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Video Size: 1283.33 MB
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Target bitrate: 1.78 Mbits/s
(if possible, all decimal points aligned for readibility)
"Target bitrate" is not not mentioned in the tutorial. The problem is that it is currently expressed in kbps = 1000 bits/sec whereas I take it that Kbps = 1024 bits/sec. So 1860 kbps = 186000 bps. I don't know if this is the traditional usage in expressing video bitrate. After some head scratching, I worked out:
Target Video Bitrate = 1283.33 MB * 8 (bits in a byte) / 5760 (length of this particular movie in secs) = 1.78 Mbit/s
If traditonal usage is kbps, the figures should be shown that way with commas for readibility:
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Audio size: 113,044.16 kbps
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Overhead: 9,291.78 kbps
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Video Size: 1,345,670.46 kbps
[6/12/2003 9:07:35] Target bitrate is: 1,869 kbps
But I believe that for the typical size of files encountered with this app, MB (2^20 bytes) would be significantly neater.
Also I could not find the move_gk.log file. Previously I could inspect this as soon as it commenced.
Also interlacing:
[6/12/2003 8:43:53] Analyzing source.
[6/12/2003 8:51:30] Source is considered to be interlaced.
[6/12/2003 8:51:31] Analyzing PAL source with different field order.
[6/12/2003 8:59:22] Source is considered to be interlaced.
Does this mean that the field order was found to be correct or reversed? What would the log screen have shown if the opposite of what you expected happened? Isn't the presence of two "Source is considered to be interlaced" msgs confusing?

1) If I don't close the program down between encodes and just change the input directory and output filename then when I click start encode it loads up dvd2avi but doesn't actually index the file (dvd2avi just loads up and does nothing).
2) I have a movie which has a mono ac3 soundtrack on it, and the command line you're using for besweet can't cope with decoding it. Log file from besweet can be found at http://www.wertherman.plus.com/IMPORTANCE%20OF%20BEING%20EARNEST%20AC3%20T01%201_0ch%20192Kbps%20DELAY%200ms.log

I have to roll back to what I was using in 0.64. It looks like current GK has the same for a reason: deviation is noticable and it's better to have just undersized than oversized in some cases.

Very inetersting log.
First, 426090 frames is more than 4 hours. Is that right ?
If it is indeed that long, the I'll check, may be some variables have to be int64 instead of integer (overflow problems).

Len0x, :)
I've been using Gordian Knot from day 1, but it was al
more work to explain to others how to get the perfect DivX
with AC3. There is just one problem - when i use the advanced
options and chose fixed width, the XviD looks perfect on pc,
but my Kiss Player makes it look like al the people are
"FlatHeads" because the screen is pushed together.:(
With the previous versions of Gordian Knot i alway's kept the
same amount of lines as the DVD (PAL - 720*576) so that it would
look the same as on DVD. Could you please make a button or choice
under the Advanced Settings to keep the original amount of lines as on the DVD? It would really make it a lot more easy for me to tell others how to transform dvd's into perfect divx :D.
Thx anyway for your groundbreaking packages.

I think that the player you use has the wrong aspect ratio set for that movie you watch. Try either 4:3 or 16:9 and see what happens. If they still look like flat-heads, then try setting a ratio of your choice or a custom aspect. That's as far as I can help you ^_^

DVD - now is that no problem with Gordian Knot if you do everything
by yourself, but explaining it to others is a different thing.
You can adjust the player but the picture won't be as good as the
DVD as when you just select everything at 100% - i can then put it
on 2 cd's and still have perfect DVD quality with AC3.
I choose the Fixed Width at 720 lines but the height is then
squashed - if you can manually choose the height the problem would
be over to.
If it's nog to much of a hassle, i'd love to have that extra setting.
