Len0x,
Just 1 question and I hope you will come back with right solution.
I am ripping DVD “War of the World” region 1 using DVD Decrypter with file split option = 1GB so I am getting total 4 .VOB files.
Now when encoding above using your great tool AGKnot I am having audio sync problem. (Starting all ok and then slowly there will de-sync problem and at the end of the movie it may be 2 or more minutes.
Now ripping the same DVD using DVD decrypter with file split option = NONE and creating only 1 .VOB file (around 4GB) and using AGKnot with same setting (Audio/Video) and everything is ok. No sound sync problem at all.
Can you please check where is the problem?
Thanks

Hi,
This is a recent movie so chances it has Ripguard or Arccos protection
... Now when encoding above using your great tool AGKnot I am having audio sync problem. (Starting all ok and then slowly there will de-sync problem and at the end of the movie it may be 2 or more minutes.
Well known audio-synch problem with recent movies that DvDDecrypter, alone, cannot handle -> Try Ripit4me
A guess from my part: the audio-synch problem may come from smalls cells that DgIndex/Dgdecode does not handle well (stated in the Rpit4me tutorial) maybe forcing DvdDecrypter to use one big file has corrective or enhanced effects?
... Now ripping the same DVD using DVD decrypter with file split option = NONE and creating only 1 .VOB file (around 4GB) and using AGKnot with same setting (Audio/Video) and everything is ok. No sound sync problem at all.
So it seems you may have a solution instead of a problem, that is great!.
Does your 4Gb Vob source encodes well?

When I try encoding a rip (from ripit4me), I can get through the first pass, but nothing happens after it and the Log Window shows that it is still running the first pass. This happened to me in the previous version as well.
I tried doing a search of this thread, but could not find anything relevant.
Thanks for any help

I love AutoGk, I use it for everything, or at least I want to. I use a program called Direct Show Dump to handle my Tivo files and unfortunatly, I dont think Direct Show Dump writes the mpeg headers correctly. I really wish Auto Gk could be adapted to support those funny headers.

Hi there,
as I mentioned in another Thread before -I have encountered a problem AGK has with Splitting the final encoded movie into two files (CD size) that occures only under Win XP.
I have a AMD X2 3800 Dualcore system ( MB: Gigabyte GA-K8NS-Ultra, 1 Gb RAM) running under 1st.: Win2000 and 2nd: WinXP SP2 (on a second partition with Bootmanager )
AGK 2,37b has no Problems under Win 2000 but under Win XP (same System) it happens reproducible (also different movies) that VirtualDubMod in the last SplittingStep hangs. That means the Splitting-Process is initiated by AGK, VirtualDub starts running and after a few seconds (round about 400 MBs are copied - it differs, sometimes the second file is just started) it stopps but does not quit and it does not freeze the system. After hours I abort the job.
Last thing to mention: under Win2000 the Dualcore CPU is registered as a single core (because OS-Installation was under a single core CPU) and so the Splittingproblem is may due to a DualCore-Problem ?
In the meantime I have tested splitting the movies "manually" with VirtualDubMod (after the aborted encoding / splitting job, opening the unsplitted finished moviefile with VDM and split it by saving as direct stream copy into two files) and it worked well. I have also tested deinstallation of all codecs (including XVID) and reinstalling last stable Version of AGK (2.27) - There was no change.
Has anyone made the same observations and / or an idea to solve this problem. Is it a Bug ?
Thanks for any help in advance
Hendrik

Hi,
now in the meantime I continued my investigations towards the splitting-problem only under winxp (and dualcore use). It seems to me more and more, that the problem is hardware (maybe the dualcore) related. Now i encoded the same vob files on another machine (winxp running with nearly the same softwareinstallation) and everything went quite well. The machine was also an AMD K8 but single core (Venice CPU).
So any ideas are wellcome...:)
Thanks Hendrik

I have such problem as EEPROM...
The 1pass freezes at 32%.
AGK 2.32b or 2.37b.
Trying Xvid from package and the new xvid.cvs.head.MTK.2006.11.08...
The source is 58min length DV AVI (Export from Premiere) or avi (frameserving from Premiere), the result is the same...
The CPU is the same as EEPROM - AMD64 X2 3800+.
I have the same CPU, no problems at all. what I can recommend, is grab the drivers from amd (that seemed to fix it for me)..
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html
grab the following:
*AMD Dual-Core Optimizer
*AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16
and a side note: if you use Daemon Tools, use the latest version, otherwise you will have constant BSOD's wht the amd drivers.
hope it helps.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, LenOx, for this wonderful utility! (Auto-GKnot) i have been using it for a long time, but just now started browsing the forums.
I couldn't always wrap my head around using GKnot, and Auto-GK is just the ticket for easy encoding with great quality. Whenever I encounter someone using other utilities (especially commercial ones) that aren't happy with their product, I always post them a link to your site and suggest trying it out. More than once I have received a pm back thanking me for the link and that they are an avid convert, as I am too. When I do encodes/converts for the public sites (under a different name, obviously ;) ) I am sure to give you full credit--you da man!
Also, I have started using AutoGK to encode my home video since I can fit many more quality files on my data DVD's than by encoding in DVD format, it is great for Archiving since both my RCA standalones have no problem playing anything I create with AutoGK, whether in XviD or DivX format--and I don't really need the fancy chapter stuff of a DVD. Thanks again for making my life so much easier! Consider me a lifelong fan...

Hello, first off, this is a great piece of code, couldn't live without it.
That being said, I cannot get AVI's w/mp3 sound to recode properly. Video is perfect, but no sound track at all. I have tried every thing I can think of. I have updated religiously, & I have scanned the forums for everthing I can find. Not an easy task I assure you.
My kludge is to recode to mpeg2 w/AC3 sound, then recode back to AVI, which sux-big-time. It doesn't matter whether I use my P4 desktop or my AMD Sempron laptop, with clean WinXP SP2 installs. Any ideas, suggestions, or questions?

Can we see your log file?
Also as it is coding look at your agk_tmp directory. Do you have a ac3 file? A wav file? A mp3 file? What sizes for each?
When you loaded the video source, you did see a audio channel right? It was clicked before you started encoding right?

I have been re-encoding some AVI's with AutoGK as they originally stuttered a bit on playback. After re-encoding, they played back without problems. However, one of the AVI files causes AutoGK/VDubMod to "hang" after the first pass. The CPU usage jumps around in the 90%'s but it sticks at the "Loading MPA" window and never moves on.
I can post all of it, or a short section of it to help with debugging, but it is copyrighted material.

It could be because of packed bitstream; check with and use MPEG4Modifier to remove them if any. If it removes the stutters then no need to re-encode :D

1/ Best would be to re-encode the original DVD or MPEG2 stream
2/ Your AVI source may be corrupted (bad index ...) you could try to open your source in VDUBMOD and save it with a new name to reconstruct the index and try encoding again after that.
3/ Post your partial logfile
Happy new Year to all

You have a point :)
Reviewing the version history (1st page this thread), the only real change was to introduce the audio/subs options (CTRL-F11); other changes are either bugfixes or updates which makes AGK still up-to-date and "competitive".

I'd like to see the ability to disable turning off b-frames. AutoGK typically does this when the compressibility percentage is over 100%. The problem is that turning off b-frames invariably results in a lower quality encoding at the file size I've selected. I'd rather just get a smaller file that uses b-frames and has near 100% quality.

Hi,
Then make a test stop the encode after the comptest lower the output size re-test etc ...
Or for a given size after the first comptest, give more room for the audio if encoded in MP3
Or using AGK-Pal, as suggested, use a sharpener like Limitedsharpenfaster that will reduce the compressability ...

why does AutoGK do all the steps all over again? like it has demuxed the audio, transcoded it to mp3, analysed the source and the job aborts for some reason. Hi,
This is an audio problem; you have a mpeg1 or 2 audio as input.
1/It has been reported, in another AGK thread, problems re-encoding some MPEG1/2 audio -> Try keep original audio
2/ You have a 192Kbps VBR out for a 184kbps in; this is inefficient. If you want to re-encode do it from the Mpeg or Vob original stream(s) and try same or below original audio bitrate.
Edit: Just re-read the previous post; if the input audio is MP3, than it cannot be re-encoded. See FAQ 5.12 http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=72679

Hmm well the 184kbps audio was from previous encode. Delected the original and hence was trying to recode it I guess. So I guess problem with Mp3 and re-encoding Mp3. Might have to seperate the audio. Now I have another file with ac3 audio need to get the log file and post it.
thanks

You should probably re-read the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), particularly #6. If you don't own the original video, you are not entitled to help with the material.

Hi LenO,
I was wondering for your next version of AutoGK ... maybe you can make it a "Self-Containing" program ... what I mean is to have everything that AutoGK needs available under "AUTOGK" folder ... all programs in one place ... instead of fetching different programs from different spots on the hard-drive.
That is if it is an easy thing to do!?!?!
THANKS!
G!
