You have a point :)
Reviewing the version history (1st page this thread), the only real change was to introduce the audio/subs options (CTRL-F11); other changes are either bugfixes or updates which makes AGK still up-to-date and "competitive".

Hi. I noticed that on my PC (which so far has installed the DivX5.2 codec), AutoGK creates not much beautiful DivX AVIs, while it creates very nice XviD movies.
DivX quality looks like if I had set, on my DivX 5.2 codec, the "encode performance" = standard, while the best quality is given for "encode performance = slow.
I saw that on new DivX6, the encode performance 'standard' is now the MOST PRECISE, while the encode performance 'standard' was a little worse, in DivX 5.x.
Could someone explain me if the not too high quality of the AutoGK DivX5 encoding is due to the fact that it uses 'standard' performance that is optimal for DivX6 but not very beautiful for DivX5?
If this is the reason (I cannot find other reasons, since all AVI movies I made using XviD 1.0 and 1.2 are very good) can I instruct AutoGK to use well DivX codec, or I will be forced either to upgrade up to DivX6 or to stick to XviD?

Hi,
I saw a post that AutoGK ceaced development in august 2006, but yet I see an update dated december 2006, what is going on? Is it still progressing or not? Looking to choose a solution for encoding my DVD collection, but want to choose a solution that will evolve with new technologies. I will contribute if this is the right solution for me.
Thank you.

Hi folks,
I tried using AutoGK 2.40Beta to convert a test clip DVD to AVI ... program runs thru DGIndex then it gives me an error saying CANNOT indicate file type ... see attached JPEG
And when it does not give me the above error ... it completes the Task yet I have no AVI file ... only a converted Audio ... and no Video ...
What is the Problem.
Thanks,
G!:(

Hi Taurus,
I will uninstall and download the "Stable" version of AutoGK and run a test clip and save the "Logfile" and re-post if still I have a problem.

Hello, all!
First I'd like to say that I LOVE this program! AGK is the answer to all my encoding woes. I've been using StatxRip for a while, but I could not seem to avoid getting encodes that stuttered (shuttered) during scenes with movement... I gave auto gk a try and I'm floored by the result! (I use an Oppo 970HD and a Pioneer 588A-S standalones.)
Just one question... I usually encode DivX. Is there any benefit to using the latest "Pro" codec over the "free" codec if I'm going to be using AGK for all encoding?
Thanks!

Hi Dashiell,
Just for my curiosity Which Free Version of DivX are you using?
I don't know about AutoGK ... but I have seen some other encoding programs that have used DivX 4.12 (I am not at my desktop so I am not sure aout the ver # exactly) and th reults were peretty good. I have also seen encoding with 5.?? freeware version and I could not really tell the difference ... but then again, I were glasses ... so go figure.

Hello, Gonwk!
I'm currently using 6.5.1 (I believe it's the latest version). The PRO version is only $20 so I was considering purchasing.
I remember reading len0x state that AGK will always use certain features only found in the pro version of the codec, although I don't remember him going into any great detail about which ones... I did do a search for this info but didn't find much of anything...

Hi Dashiell,
Thanks for the reply.
BTW, did you download 6.5.1 from DivX website?
I don't particularly care for DivX and their fishing business ... I think they bug you with promo's or get info from you without you knowing it ... so that is why I stay from their so the speak "Free" offer.
Q: Have you experienced anything like that?

Yes, I did. I even just took the plunge and bought a license for the pro codec. There was only one page that asked about "email offers" but it's the usual stuff. The installer does ask you to install google toolbar, but you can easily click "no" and avoid the whole thing. That's it... the codec is really nice. I hope auto GK can make extra use out of the pro version somehow... does anyone know what it does differently?

This version has been working without bother until tonight when I try to open the input file selector the program immediately closers. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times. Turn on and off my firewall - done a complete system scan for virii etc - all clean.
When I do try to install I get an error message when I reach the AVISynth install complaining I need Admin rights , which I am.
At the same time I noticed Media Player Classic no longer plays the video of DivX or Xvid files but goes into a chipmunk speed audio only. As they say in the classics "what the? going on...

Without the logfiles, system specs, etc.--who can help?
Your system is burked.
Deinstall AutoGk, Avisynth, Xvid and Divx codec.
Maybe use an Registry Cleaner.
Install the full package Stable AutoGK 2.40 from the authors website.
Only install the bundled Xvid (not Divx) for testing.
Report back how it works.

?I don't know where to find the log files for Autogk?
I'm running XP with SP2 with all updates to date. 1gig of memory and no problems generally - this happened completely out of the blue. Not connected to the Internet when it happened. I'm behind a firewall (OP) and a router.

Updated codecs using Klite.
As you might know, Codec packs are a big "no, no" in this forum.
The log files can be found in the destination folder of your encoded *.avi.
Only the Xvid Version bundled with the AutoGk installer works correct, so if you use another one (maybe from famous "KLite) all things can happen.
Your girlfriend leaves you, your grandma doesn't pay the rent for you, etc...

Didn't know about the "no, no" and the log file didn't have a chance to get created as the program (2.40) died the instant I opened a folder to import a file - many thanks I wil go back to the drawing board. As I run a number of other video editing and music sequencing programs that require me to keep a number of codecs updated I will stick with version 2.27 until I can find a workaround. Many thanks anyway

None over XviD, I have a 'pro' version of DivX and it cant come close to XviD for speed and quality, but then after how they (the DivX people) got their code in the first place, I am surprised that it even still works.
Dont waste your money. As with most open/free code vs pay its often better as you have people doing the coding just for the love of it with a large amount of input from others, then you have the pay code done by people because it pays the rent.
I encode captures from my TV cards the only thing that I can think that is different from DVD's is that mine are of a higher rate.

Update: I have managed to get AutoGK 2.40 working again along with Media Player Classic and the result was a big suprise to me when I found the culprit was VLC!! When I uninstalled it and removed all registry references everything came good again. A bit disappointing in as much it is a good program and maybe I will try re-installing it when a new update comes out..:)

There are some strange things in AutoGK. Encoding some episodes, resulted files have about -440 ms delay. DVD was riped with the latest RipIt4Me.
Now I'm encoding some episode which have 44 minutes and for a final size of 350MB: Chosen resolution is: 720x416 ( AR: 1,73 ). As you can see, just the crop and no resize. I think the resulted QF will be very small. I aborted the encoding. When I set the resolution of 640, instead of 640x360 (1.77) AGK gave me 640x368 (1.74). I think the Xvid or DivX don't need anymore multiple of 16 and 4 I think is enough for a good AR compared to the original.
For a long time AGK worked so good for me, but with the latest versions some things are wrong in it.
It's OK to stop the development but I think the latest version is supposed to be without major bugs.
enjoy,
Mtz

Hi,
I think there was a similar issue a while back ...
Try
1/ encoding to 160 MP3 CBR (has to do with 16/32 khz steps in CBR) or
2/ Re-rip from DVD to HD
Let us know if successful .
@Jeffy, nothing in tutorial and nothing in the FAQ. you may want to search the main AGK thread or ask in the avisynth section ...

I am using Auto GK. I am coming along well with it. I am wanting to know what setting others use and have used to get best compression while maintaing decent quality.Another issue I am having is when I use Predefined Size or Custom Size setting it will run 2 passes and take extra long time. If I use target quality it runs only 1 pass. That seems a lot quicker. If anyone could give some insight to some good/quick setting preferences I would appreciate it.

there seems to be a bug in AGK 2.40 with multi-angled dvds like
the code 1 version of Tron, George of the Jungle, The Kid etc.
even if you choose angle 1, all angles are used in the rip and it
"stotters". repeating the frames for the different angles.
theres an easy workaround though. re-author in dvdshink. simply
remove the angles not wanted.
just wanted to write this down, maybe its a well known fact in

Can't you pull out the right angle in the decrypting stage, by setting up DVDDecrypter in IFO Mode and choosing angle you want?
i suppose so, but i dont know DVDD well enough. i just use it
with RI4M (1-click). this way, all seems to get ripped, not just
the audio track you select, so all angles aswell.
the dvdshrink fix works perfectly for me, so i didnt look any further :)
I have seen similar problems with multi-angle films and I have identified it as a problem in RipIt4me in IFO mode. Ripping the full movie instead of the movie alone can solve it. A lot of the movies I was having this problem with were older Disney movies that DVD Decrypter really has no problem ripping IFO's for encoding. You just need to not rip the bad cell's that throw off the audio.

i can also confirm this when ripping with AnyDVD and DVDFab (both latest versions),
i can't believe i didn't post this a week ago, i thought it was my old dvd reader playing about, but i was suspicious as it happened in the same place every time, but i thought it had to be my dvdrom reader as i didn't think the problem could be in 2 software programs,
the above happened on, Aliens (2) Alien 3 and i think Alien (1) was fine but don't hold me to that,
most of my tests were done using DVDFab 3.1.8.0, and 3.1.8.2,
Aliens (2)
did full RIP, and i did a Customize RIP, taking out the 2nd angle,
i can't believe i didn't twig this,
but to have the same problem, on 2 different software programs, i though would be near impossible, still, very pleased to know that my DVDRom Reader is ok,
I'm very busy, i hope DVDFab company reads this, or perhaps someone could be kind enough to drop them a post, as i don't have a account with there forum,

If I look at the release notes of the new dgindex (1.4.9), I find this:
Added a warning pop-up to notify the user that a field order transition was detected.
I get it with nearly all the recent dvd's which I am converting with AutoGK and it's very annoying since it ruins automation.
The window stays popped up and AutoGK doesn't continue until you press OK.
You have to stay around until demuxing/indexing is finished because the warning can pop-up.
Even worse for batch encoding.

i did notice that in DGIndex 1.5.0, there is a option that may resolv this,
Changes in DGMPGDec 1.5.0 beta 2:
- ****Pop-up warning message boxes are now suppressed for CLI operation.****
- PSIP PID detection has been added.
- PIDs are now displayed in decimal as well as hexadecimal.
- A new option, Looped Playback, was added. When the end of the timeline is reached during a Play or Preview operation, playback is automatically restarted at the beginning of the timeline.
- A bug was fixed in the transport packet length detection code. This caused some M2TS streams to be parsed incorrectly.
