That's impossible as I'm not able to use AC3 transcoding functionality of besweet (and never wanted to).

Yes, demuxing didn't work. I'm gonna be needing a sample of those VOBs. Would it be possible to rip one chapter/cel and make it available for me do download?

P.S. When you open vobs with DGIndex manually and select demux just first track and then save project - will it create audio file or not?

Har, har, this was more a kind of subtile joke from my side.
I remember what a mess it was to get this dam.. thing to work.
Very time consuming.
I really accept your decision.

But to be more constructive: Over night I will do quite a few matrice
comparisions.
I will report tomorrow.

Cheers

I can reduce threshold to say 98.5%, so that your source would get FF automatically (have you seen any other moview like this?).

On that one, right after the last of the credits fades out, the final ~2 minutes of the video consist of an oval MGM logo that 'spins' into the screen (looks like CGI), along with a static shot of the menu background, and the FBI warning at the end. This is the only one that I've run across like that so far. I just trimmed off that bit anyways when remuxing the final to .MKV, so no big deal.

Is the FF threshold configurable with a hidden option? (I don't remember). It would probably be best if it was, since 99% is probablly the correct cutoff for general users.

No, but unless there are more examples of such movies - the simplest thing would be to trim it using DGIndex (the usual trick) during demuxing step and AutoGK should proceed as usual.

I can rip it but I'll have to upload as I'm not reachable form the 'outside' due to some weird-ass NAT setup at my ISP. I'll pm my emailaddress to you, so we can figure something out.

Or not. But if I selected Demux All Tracks it created a 130kb DTS file.

This beats me - its track number 2! there is no way of automatically detect that from stream info file :) But you can use hidden_option number 11 (.audio_id) and use File mode instead of DVD mode(hidden file should contain "81" in it).

Hi Len0x,

New to Ac3 & DTS, just tried this new features on Tina Concert in Wembley; needed 1860mb to get video at more than 512 width(AR 1.78); all encodes went ok, here are the audio infos:
-ac3 2ch Agk 1.76 - 166.52mb
-ac3 5ch downmixed 2ch by AGK 1.76 (or the ac3 2ch used?) - 166.52mb
-ac3 5ch agk 1.78 - 388.57mb
-dts 2ch agk 1.78 - 654.41mb

Now another one with a question; still with my LOTR2&3 problems, tried a 1/2DVD with LOTR3 and ac3 6ch, aborted the encode after seeing the audio size more than 600mb ... the movie has no ac3 2ch tracks (PAL French).
Do I have to go back to 1.76 to get the ac3 2ch downmix (if it works like that) or can you implement a downmix option ac3 5 or 6ch --> 2ch ?

Just asking, thanks.

AutoGK was never able downmix (i.e. transcode) 6 channel AC3 into 2 channel AC3 (see few posts above why).

its still there (_nothing_ changed in subs handling) you have to have external subs selected though...

I try to do an old swedish movie called "En Kärleks Historia" which was the first swedish movie in stereo :)

Problem is as follows ...

In AutoGK under audio track I see in this order:
AC3 2ch
Director's Comments AC3 2ch
DTS 5ch

If I choose the DTS 5ch I get the Director's Comments track.

Anyhow when trying all track one by one what then happens is:
AC3 2ch -> AC3 2ch
Director's Comments AC3 2ch -> Director's Comments AC3 2ch
DTS 5ch -> Director's Comments AC3 2ch
No Audio Track -> AC3 2ch (hehe it is true)

So I never is able to get the DTS with AutoGK v1.78
The DTS should be track 2. I confirmed by opening the VOBs in DGIndex.

No I can't ... cause it was so early morning that I forgot to delete the agk_tmp directory first, so of course there was a audio file there. So u are right as usual. I will now test v1.79.

Edit: Running and is ok. DGIndex spits out the DTS right now. Thank you :)

BTW can u look at my post in the thread "err: cannot find interlace.log" ? Is it just troublsome a telestream or somthing with NTSC interlaced/progressive? But, yes the bug seems to be in avisynth and not AutoGK.

You have to decide if it's for a more universal approach or a specific task.
In this case we are heading for a higher bitrate matrice.
Quant=2 is not always the goal for "ordinary" backups.
So this time I choosed arbitrarily a fixed kbs rate of 2000 for my tests.
Sure, depending on the sources there was quite noticable differences in quality in the end.
Test clips: Matrix 1 = Lobby scene, Matrix Reloaded = Highway, a hord of Mr.Smith(action), the oracle(walls grain),
gladiator (fight scenes)
and as usual some CGs.
The winner is V2 followed by Beta4. Beta5 compresses real well, but the overall impression did not match the others.
It's more a psycho-visual decision from my side, don't nail me by numbers.
Sorry, in my former post, I gave a vote for beta5.
This time its the other way around.

There is a BIG matrice comparison in another thread heading for 1600kbs, started from a guy called Soulhunter :D ;) this should be taken into consideration. 1600kbs is something mainstream nowadays,
so we have to watch who will be the winner. Future plans are for a 2200kbs round. This will fit exactly into the frame = higher resolution = higher bitrate.

My eyes are tired, everywhere are blocks and distortions, walls are moving, grain is pulsating :o ;).

Time to leave the machine.

Hi len0x !

First of all, thanks a lot for the great job you're doing. I'm using AutoGK with much pleasure.
You're working a lot on the videos improvements, but is something planned on the audio part ?

What about using other audio codecs, like AAC or MPC/Flac ?
And what about implementing a good 5.1 codec ?
I dont't know one, but I'm sure that they must be one good 6 channels audio codec

Hi ma2trigk (salut)

I cannot answer on len0x projects but concerning the audio part it seems the actuals AGK betas are going in that direction; see
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266 infos regarding the 1.78 & 1.79 rev: DTS +PCM

Depending on the source you can now choose audio between
in:
PCM, AC3 xch, DTS xch
and out:
MP3-CBR/VBR, AC3 or DTS;
see my last post here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=570634#post570634

Have a good day (bien le bonjour)

/Edit - PS: I forgot the possibility of two audio streams since ... quite a long time see AGK FAQ 2.1 & 2.4 here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72679 /

Hi len0x,
As it is right now, when target quality is used, quality percentage and resolution are constant and the final size is a variable.
Is it possible,to choose the quality percentage and final size to be constant and the resolution to be a variable?
Example:A half-DVD rip with maximum quality at the largest possible resolution...

All we need for this to work is a target quality percentage (i.e. now around 70%) to be adjustable. May be later I'll add this into hidden option/config file.

I've spent enourmous amount of time tuning AVS scripting for AutoGK. It will never use anything else (and actualy some of the DGIndex/VDubMod features are irreplaceable as well, because they were designed for me on request(well, almost)).

Well, i'm more interested in knowing if beta5 performed better than V2 in CG movies. In wich of the clips V2 was better than beta5 and vice versa.

I know about the comparison but here i'm trying to create a CQM exclusively for AutoGK (keeping in mind compressibility, codec settings and avs filters) but seems that EQM V2 is already unbeatable... :D

@Len0x: I've just updated EQM V3ULR (the low bitrate one). If you have some spare time to test it i will be more than happy.

I just summed up the results for all clips, CG and ordinary movies.

On CG's I even like V2 much more compared to Beta 5. As Beta 4 ads some harshness, Beta5 washed out. So V2 is something in the middle.
And I like it like that.
Something more to note from my side. Even I have not encoded at Q=2
this time (remember 2000kbs was used), no blocking or ringing was noticed on all matrices. And thats something worth mentioning.

Matrices are miracles. They make all the difference from a crappy to a superb looking encode (except maybe some switches in XVID).
But this is out of scope for AutoGk coz for SAP Compliance.

So, stay tuned, and get on with your fine work.

Will give updated EQM V3ULR a try in the meantime. Resolution about 500-x*** 800kbs. Is this allright for the ultra low resolution matrice?

Sharktooth
18th November 2004, 18:18
Ok. So beta5 is too washed out. V2 was made to be a general purpouse high-bitrate matrix and i think it is doing its job quite well... at this point i think i can't produce a better matrix.

640-xxx @ 800-900kbps is preferable.
Compare it against Jawor's 1CD and H.263 as starting point.

I hope so.

I've incorporated 'semi-automatic' ogg support (well, it's mainly manual, but using AutoGK and OAGMachine's features makes it quite a simple supplementary process):

STEP 1) Encode the movie as normal in AutoGK, and, having decided you want to use OGG audo, configure the encode to use MP3 audio at a low bitrate (I usually use 96kbps).

That process automates a couple of things that you need for the second step. Those are:

-It demuxes the AC3 stream for you that you'll need to reencode later to OGG, and
-It 'calculates' your target filesize for the OGG file (when it encodes the mp3 file)

STEP 2) After the encode is done, open up the autogk temporary directory stored with your encoded project. Look at the .MP3 audio file's size - that's what you are going to go for, within a couple of megabytes

STEP 3) Fireup Oagmachine v-0.11 (which is a GUI for BeSweet). Point it to the .AC3 file that was saved in the temp directory as the source. Choose your settings (I disable normalize and enable hybrid gain, leave everything else at default settings). Now, here's the pain-in-the-ass part - you can't encode to a specific bitrate or filesize with OGG. The 'Quality" factor is only a target indicator, and final size depends on complexity of the source material. I usually start out at 0.3 which will usually come *close* to MP3 @ 96 kbps (but not exactly - read further on). Your objective here is to encode so that the OGG file is just about the same file size as the MP3 file was, BUT - since you cannot mux OGG into AVI, you have to account for different muxing overhead as follows:

-if your preferred target container is .MKV, your final encoded audio could be 1 or 2 megabytes LARGER per CD, since MKV has lower muxing overhead and will result in a slightly smaller total filesize

-if your preferred target container is .OGM, your final encoded audio must be ~2 megabytes smaller per CD, since OGM has higher muxing overhead and will result in a slightly larger total filesize

**Now you can see the pain-in-the-ass component in this procedure: you might need to encode the audio 5 or 6 times, changing the Quality setting each time by .01 or .02 step increments till you get the correct final filesize. But, thanks to functionality built into the programs, you can easily automate this multiple encode process using a batch file as follows:

-instead of clicking the "Give Me Ogg" button, COPY the command-line parameters to the clipboard in Oagmachine
-create a new text file on your desktop and open it
-paste in the copied command-line 5 or 6 times
-leave the first line the way it is, and edit the other 4 or 5 to change the "Q" parameter in each one by a few digits, AND THE TARGET FILENAME (if you don't change the filename on each line, each successive encode in this batch file will just overwrite your previous encode and you won't gain anything here!). I just put a 1-, 2-, 3- etc infront of the output filename in each successive line
-save the file, and rename it to ogg.bat or something similar.
-dblclick on the batch file, and go have coffee for 1/2 hour or so while your 5 or 6 ogg files get encoded one after another
-when you come back, look in the temp directory, you should have 5 or 6 completed .OGG files
-decide which one meets your required size criteria as closely as possible (if none, repeat with different Q settings)

STEP 4) Final step - drag your originally encoded .AVI file onto VirtualDubMod (in the AutoGK directory)
-go to the "Streams" menu, disable the .MP3 stream (dblclick it so it gets cross-hatched)
-Add your chosen OGG file in the same menu
-go to the file...save as menu, pick output format as .OGG or .MKV as you decided earlier
-set processing mode to "direct stream copy"
-Save your file and you're done.

That all sounds kind of complex, but I assure you, it's quite simple after you've done it 2 or 3 times. AutoGK takes much of the work out of it by saving the .AC3 file and the .MP3 file after the encode is done so you don't need to do the demuxing or math.

For more manual control you can abort autogk after it begin the first pass and then open the *_movie.avs in Avs2avi-GUI.

Here you can insert and remove avisynth filters and tweak the encoding options as well as use a different matrix ( IMO V3ULR is an excellent matrix for ultra-low bitrates .. it smooths out details , but it's better to loose details to smoothing than to horrible artifacts .. but then again I'm trying it out on an extremely hard to encode clip - The first compresablity test AutoGK makes is around 15% )

Finally got AGK-Xvid 2Gb encodes of LOTR3 playing correctly in my SAP (H&B 3220 ,1389DE chip) Grmblhhhhhh :D ; How ?

I - Very short answer ( me hates reading) :
Keep your xvid.avi small to play in SAP like mine

II – Short answer (how small ?) :
Depending on the width of the movie, the size of the audio and the number of high motion/action scenes, expect to have problems around 2Gb ; more -> sure, less -> maybe

III – Long answer (me want details ) :sly: :
The bigger the size, the bigger the width, the bigger the bitrate.
Using the MPC player with the input bitrate OSD activated(ffdshow needed), I was able to spot the exact time of the freeze. It happens when a scene is above 2500kbps +and+ lasts for 1mn or more.
So what can be done ? See I or II ; not enough ? Here we go :
If , like me you want to preserve, as much as possible, the quality of the encode for "cult" movies, try not to cross that 2500kbps/1mn threshold for the video or use the Xvid 1.1 beta encoder. The defaults settings : strict curve and VBV buffer will give you 15 to 20% more room in high bitrate scenes ; see here :
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=568408#post568408
For the same file size you go down from 65312b to 50631b size for max frame. By the way, Xvid 1.1 is +not+ yet officially supported in AGK ; if you use it and have problems, don’t complain to Len0x !
Not enough ? Sorry, at the moment within AGK, I have no other tips.
What is not implemented in AGK is the high bitrate limiter option included in the 2nth pass of the Xvid 1.1 encoder. From what I understand it should be the answer to extreme situations.

@ Len0x, please make it available (via hidden options ) when Xvid 1.1 is released and officially supported by AGK. /edit: it's called "High bitrate scenes degradation(%)" in the curve compression set/

That’s all folks.
