There isn't even decoder chip out there that can decode AVC, so players won't be out at least for another year...

I don't have any plans regarding GK atm.

Ah sorry, then I missed these comments, great to hear :)

Ok, I was myself amazed a bit about this news (in German):
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/57407
So they simply overlook the fact that Nero Digital can be (the known "classical") mpeg4 OR the new mpeg4 Part10 (AVC)

I don't have any plans regarding GK atm.
But I hope for AutoGK (AAC + mp4-Conatiner) ;)
-At least these two things are available (now) with "Nero-Digital" compatible Standalones.

As promiced - an overview what's to come,

Next stable version will have these features at a minimum:

- AVI input support
- suppport for new versions of XviD (1.1) and DivX (6.0)

Secondary features that might be implemented if I have time left from first two:

- persistent job queue
- new config file(s) for hidden options and more...

Fun features (that might apprear suddenly if I have have nothing to do one day):

- support for x264
- support for mp4
- support for AAC

Minor stuff may come along but what is mentioned above is the main target.

When you say "avi input", do you mean that AutoGK will be able to process any kind of video file that can exist in the .avi container? Not just mpeg? That would be pretty huge...
And what do you mean by persistant job queue?

Also, a feature request. How about being allowed to set a time to begin encoding? Like in some download managers?

Pretty much - yes, giving that you can play it in WMP.

Thanks so much for the new stable release and thanks for answering my questions:) I like the thought of the "persistent job queue"...

Edit: Len0x: In the tutorial, you mention that "it is possible to do this on a 500mhz". Could you change that to at least 333mhz? I have backed up over 20 DVD's, as well as other things with AutoGK. It can take 20-30 hours, but it always works. I say this so as not to discourage potential users with ultra slow pc's.

Well, that wasn't me :) But its done not to discourage users but just to show how lengthy process will be. It doesn't say you need *at least* 500MHz CPU...

Len0x has invested hours upon hours of his valuable time into this program, and it is obviously a fantastic tool. You should be happy with what you got, and that's a lot for not paying a dime!

So who are you that you think you have any right to determine what Len0x should do and what not? I am sick of such respectless comments...

Hi len0x,

Is it possible to add splitting of large files(>2Gb) for better compatibillity with standalones?
For example, if final .avi size is 2.x Gb, to be splitted in two segments of 2 Gb and 0.x Gb...

Thanks

If its constant asynch then you can remux file manually in VDubMod.

We're looking at ability of custom splitting... That can be a hidden option I suppose.

If there is no way to auto-detect filesizes >2Gb and then auto-split, the ability to custom split will be nice too...

len0x
21st March 2005, 00:14
Why hardcode something that can be generically exposed?
Atm AutoGK internal routines don't have an ability to do custom splits, but when they do its only natural to expose it as a single option that allows users to use it however they like (instead of having an options like "standalone size-compatibility" etc).

Just two changle log entries, but quite large ones :)
I'll start duscussion of AVI input support in another thread.

Regarding DIVX format support: so far its just audio and subs. Subs support is rather limited: no forced subs, no multiangle source and only first PGCs of VTS are supported it seems. I'd like you guys test overhead for DIVX format as atm I have no idea how FUSE is muxing audio.

i'm sure this was posted but can't seem to find

my source file is 704 x 480 and autogk wont give me that output even when i try to force it via hidden options. it keeps on changing it and differently sometimes to either a 4 x 3 output or something like 1.47 aspect ratio.

a request just thought that a button on the main gui would be nice. just a thought - i know you want to keep autogk simple, but i thought i might just throw it in there.

If you want an anamorphic encode 1-2-1 from DVD resolution, you can't do that in AutoGK atm. It is always resized to 1:1 PAR.

I think the last time I wanted to do an anamorphic encoding with AutoGK, I first ran DGindex and then changed the AR entry in the d2v file to compensate. Then I ran AutoGK in a different subdirectory. When DGindex launched, I interrupted its execution with <esc> and copied my modified d2v file over the AutoGK one. Then I terminated DGindex and let AutoGK continue with the processing flow.

AutoGK isn't really the right tool for this sort of thing but if you enjoy workarounds more than convenience, have fun! :sly:

Thanks

Hi Len0x,

I know I have asked this before, but now that you have AVI-file support working I thought a feature request would be in place.

I would love to see support for Avisynth scripts (avs-files) as input. Reason? Well I use Avisynth to cut and merge my TV-captures (e.g. to cut out commercials from recorded shows etc). If no support for AVS is planned (or even possible), is there any other way to accomplish this using AutoGK?

/C

ps The swedish tutorial translation is upcoming by the way. Sorry for the delay.

Atm, neither :)
It will be muxed into DIVX format and be switchable there when I support that feature (I just have to have stable DIVX format support first). But good that you reminded me.

Its not planned atm as it would just take us back to GK where video/audio would have to be selected separately, then new infrastructure has to be implemented for reading info from AVS files etc. I'm not saying it wil never be supported, but atm I have my work planned 2-3 month ahead and its not on the list yet.

P.S. There were a couple of tools around that allowed hacking of AVS (one by ydobon).

I noticed that when I used a video source that had only 1 channel of audio (mono) and selected 128kbs CBR, the result was an avi with 1 channel at only 64kbs CBR.

I realise now that if I want 128kbs with a mono source, I should set the audio to 256kbs, but perhaps a future version might take this into account.

I think that when you select 128kbs for a stereo source, you get 64kps per channel. So, when AutoGk halves the bitrate for a mono source, you have the exact same quality, but with only one channel.

I have a suggestion.

Can you add in the video info field the duration of the film so a person can choose best advanced settings according to it?
