It is based on 0.5 stable. And XviD encdoing wasn't changed, although theoretically there might be places where new bugs were introduced for XviD as well since some part had to be modified...

xvid encode ?? auto width 576 first pass 23.18fps second pass 23.07fps (10mins per pass)

Both projected and actual file sizes the same (within 50bytes)
both play perfectly on my PC but the xvid does not play well on my standalone
However xvid clips using the std codec do work on my standalone.
divx faster and more compatible ..so far..:eek:

AN option to set the process priority of the main task and all sub-tasks would be great too... so you can surf while autogek'ing in the background.

I actually find as well that 5.1.1 gives you smaller resolution than XviD due to bad compressibility. 5.0.5 I believe was better in this matter.

Were you using 0.64 ?

Start VDubMod -> Options -> Preferences -> Process Priority
Set it to lowest or even lower. then save settings and they will be picked up automatically everytime VDubMod starts.

A way to preview the audio file you are going to use would be good.
ALso just finished a full encode and it was slighlty oversized asked for size 870mb (to fit 99mincdr) and the file came out to 891mb .. 192k vbr audio used, maybe this is the problem??

audio is not a problem... this is exact 1024/1000 ratio... How come
XenoDaSouljah only got slight oversize(3.5Mb) and you're that large(21Mb)...

Can please ppl which are having oversize problems say which source (PAL/NTSC) are they using?

mostly i had a bit undersized files (just about 100kb-1,1MB), no oversized files...

How about a Divx quality slider? There could be the current setting and a "high quality" setting which would be 4 passes (3 standard and the last one at "slowest").

OK, looks like I solved oversizing issue - that's good. I will look into slight undersize during following couple of days (I can't see where i was wrong atm, but no worries :) ). May be it's general problem - in current GK you might not notice that because split actually increases size since interleaving settings are reset when splitting (don't tell anyone :) I fixed that in AutoGK and GK in CVS but not compiled 0.28.6.4 yet). So now I'm getting slightly undersized files as well. So we'll see - i have to do more tests. If you want to help try encoding manually in GK and compare (I'm trying to be at least as accurate as GK and after that we may try to be even more accurate...)

I knew that someone eventually asks for that (multipass). We'll see about that afterwards. But in general if you have so much spare time, then IMHO it's better to invest it in XviD encoding, which only disadvantage was speed...

And about the hyperthreading issue. SubRip also crashes, but I can't even start it, while AutoGK doesn't crash so often. It is written in Delphi (I pressume AutoGK is also) so check borland's developer network for a solution. Could be a bug in a dll that SubRip and AutoGK use.

btw, runtime error 216 is an access violation.

you have to install full 0.5 version (get it from the first post of this thread) and then just replace exe file with new 0.64.

actually nevermind - it can't be overhead issue since total overhead is less than 3Mb and you have 3.5Mb oversize. I'm more interested in encoding the same movie with the same settings in normal GK.

important thing is: the same size, the same audio (AC3 with 2 frames interleaving). divx with home theatre profile + bframes (doesn't matter really)

the comp. test is ok, but it will not start the 1st-pass,

This may be a stupid question, but I couldn't find an answer in the forums anywhere. Can Auto GK be used to convert DV .avi files to Divx? I have a bunch of DV home movies that I want to convert to Divx. I have been using Dr. Divx, but I would love to use AutoGK if possible. If there is a tutorial somewhere for that, please point me there.

Just my experience: I tried to encode a movie with DivX 5.11 pro and it did not work under automatic settings! This morining, after 7 hours of computing, VirtualDub reported in the status bar 23% done! I did another test this morning, where after 1 hour only 2% were done. XVid did fine with 0.5. I'll give it a try with 0.64 soon.

In my tests I can see that divx5 files always slightly undersized (and it's the same for GK), and I have no idea how come XenoDaSouljah got oversized one... More tests from him would be appreciated.

I Agree with you.
Indeed, after trying many DivX versions, the 5.02 versions was IMHO, the best of them, even for captures. Versions after that, in captures, don't respond fast enough on fast scenes, they make square blocks... And BTW, the best results on this codec config is Using Bi-Diretional encoding YES. The results are so good that we can't even compare "without it"...

I think that the bidirectional encoding option (be) will be better select.
I'm testing the program with divx 5.02 pro and maximum size audio ac3, but when Virtualdubmod start for compression the option be is off. The quality is better if be option is select and keyframe 250.

B-frames are always used unless you get more that 100% of compressibility test for resolution of 704*xxx. Why you all still asking for bframes I have no idea...

About key-frame interval. Why is 10 sec optimal value? (I assume for NTSC you'd like to see 240 frames or 300 frames and for PAL 250)

on my version it doesn't get disabled :) Seriously - what do you mean by enable? You are not supposed to edit it - just use the arrows.
