Pretty please? :)
Anyway I was able to get the credits frame # by loading the vobs into VirtualDubMod. But my encode was also oversized, by about 75MB.

@lenox:
Aren't weight zones with values smaller than 0.30 likely to screw up size prediction?
Also, would it be possible to make it so it read off .credits file a switch in order to turn on greyscale encoding for credits?

Exact problem here - encoded a movie without .credits, then again, same settings _with_ .credits, first one came out to 1.36 GB (1,469,192,192 bytes), second one oversized by 30mb to 1.39 GB (1,497,878,528 bytes), and the credits do _not_ appear to have any further compression applied.

Actually the point of a no-audio option would be so there'd be no need for adding alternate audio formats. You would encode the audio first to the format of your choice (HE-AAC here) and then encode the video (with the no-audio option) to the required size.

@len0x
finally autogk also starts on my p4 machine, where it didn't even start with ht disabled. works with and without it now. thx!
a little wish:
for choosing the output filename, i have to click the browse-button everytime. i guess in most of the cases ppl simply want the output file to be in the same folder as their sources, at least i always do. it would be nice, if i could enter the filename directly into the field without having to browse.
another little issue with the filenames: i can't use the characters [ and ], wich are valid characters for a filename in windows.

I had oversized output with .credits (start at frame 135200) option aswell.
Encoding David Cronenberg's eXistenZ with a target size of 702MB, ended up in 724MB. (Never had overize problems before with AutoGK)
Here is the log (http://www.halfrules.com/pers/BoNeLeSS/eXistenZ_gk.log)
Anyway, your program rocks len0x. :)

worked out for me, i hade real mono not dual mono source on my dvd, thing dual mono is recognized as 2.0 and only real mono as 1.0

I seem to be getting undersized files (about half size) when I am trying to encode using the Xvid 1.0 RC3 codec. I tried 1.09 with the same result. I also tried 1.10, but I was going to test the ".credits" option. Am I doing something wrong with the new Xvid? I think I remember reading that it was automatically detected, but is there a setting I need to change?

looks like. I recall it was a problem with ealier RCs. though it was fixed. if not then should I use 30% or fixed quant instead I wonder ?

DVD2AVI CLI uses this internally so you can't use them in file names.

Isn't this impossible in AVIs? This is why I'm still using MKV & GKnot 0.29 alpha, and hoping somebody sorts out the XviD 1.0 support.
Is that complicated? I'll give it a go myself (I've done a small amount of Delphi programming), but have no real idea of how to do it or what's involved.

Sorry, I thought I had done it that way, but apparently I hadn't.
I encoded the same ep with the ".credits" option. The target was 447 MB, but it came out to be 481 MB with no reduction in quality of credits. It sounds like the same problem a couple of other people have posted.
If a log file will help, I can post it.
Thanks,

Follow up on that. I've done some testing and it looks to me that size prediction is correct while actual encoding is not! As evryone mentioned that credits are not encoded with worse quality (I tried 20%, 30%, 50%) - it the same as Zone 0. Looks like of XviD a bug to me which means no credits in 1.0 so far.
P.S. I also tried quant based Zone 1 setting and it does encode it at a proper quant, but file size is really undersized after that - I'm not sure that current XviD can properly handle zones with quality and quant based settings at the same time.

I have an idea why is it happening actually - may be credit option will not happen in AutoGK for a while if I'm right...

does AutoGK allow to edit the avs script before encoding with 1.10? Or doesn't it create avs scripts before starting the job list?

@Shuichiro
AutoGk is for Newbies, NoObs, DAUs.
Sure you can manipulate the hell out of EVERY program,
if you know how to do it.
But I think this is not what lenox is heading for.
If you know how to edit or manipulate AVS scripts, so why do't you just use the Big Brother: GordianKnot?
This program fullfills every need for a little advanced people.
So let's stay on the road and don't overburden this sweet LITTLE AutoGk with too much extras.
To me it's just right if I want to do everyday jobs, for the others
I use a little more sophisticated programs.
Right now testing all the new extras lenox implanted in the last betas is more then time consuming, I don't know how he manages his time, to be so creative. @lenoxThanks, thanks, thanks!
Cheers

fixed credits problems (encoding with credits is now done without quantizers limitation like I used to do that), more credits options (see history) plus no audio option. I'm done with the feature now. Will be waiting for xvid to get released to rebuild full installers.
P.S. can someone try latest vdubmod from sourceforge (1.5.10.1 + latest fixes) and tell me if there are any issues. I wanna migrate at some point but need testing...

Just a suggestions, as you have said that you have put a stop to features would you consider adding to the update.exe a file called "hidden-options.txt" with the filenames of the hidden options and an example of the options. I know that it's possible to find out what are the options from the history.txt file but I think it might be helpfull to have them also in an approriate file as I know a few people that would find it helpful (i.e. they are newby but still would like to use a couple of the advanced options)
e.g
Hidden Options
The following files should be created in the source directory (i.e. where you have put the vobs you are going to encode).
If you are using Windows in order to create a file made of just an extension look at the end of this file.
Force encoding sound in mono mp3
.mono
Force cartoon mode for XviD
.cartoon
Force IVTC
.ivtc
Encode Credits with different settings
.credits
inside .credits file write starting frame
qualite percentage (20-100)
greyscale (TRUE,FALSE - in capital letters)
e.g.
12304
20
FALSE
How to create an extension only file in windows
From the command prompt type "echo. > filename"
or alternatively create a bat file to generate the files for you when you need them.
e.g.
create a file called mono.bat and inside it type echo. > .mono
create similar files for the other options.

1. Have u seen any updates for the bigger brother?
2. I don't think it is too much of a burden. I like AutoGK very much (also I am still using GKnot). I like the idea. I just wanted to know, if I can edit the avs file before encoding (to add some additional lines)
3. Thanx Lenox for your work. And if u don't like to implement that, I fully understand.

Ctrl-F10 - This shortcut is still not working on my system (XP SP1, AutoGK 1.12b). I read the FAQ and I have tried Ctrl-F10 with all running applications - nothing happens with all of them. So, let me ask two questions:
-how could I find the application that are using that shortcut?
-is it not too simple to use in program interface something like chekbox and/or just one more droplist to select second audio/subs or no_audio/no_subs INSTEAD the Ctrl-F10 shortcut?
PS Great thanx to Lenox anyway. AutoGK is the very helpfull thing.

Yes! It could be fantastic to have a little manual about those secret options.
Or what about creating a little key called "secret options" that opens a special windows with those "secret" settings inside? It could be better than opening the secret files (as .caroon) by hand with a text editor.

Tough one. May be close all of them (with task manager) and using trial and error method? :)

I kinda want to not show by default anything which says second audio (for my reasons). But I can have a look to make a shortcut work only in application, not global-wise so that it doesn't interfere with other applications.

do you always use --alt-preset 128 for mp3-encoding?
if not:
- how about using "-L -3db -s surround2 -c normal" for 5.1 conversion?
- and maybe an autoconfig for mp3 like this:
--- 1 CD rip = 128kbps
--- 2 CD rip = 160kbps
--- 3 CD rip = 192kbps

I have done a couple of encodes using the .credits option in AutoGK 1.12. It doesn't seem to be working correctly for me. In a 42 min episode file, the last 9 min look to be encoded as credits. I chose a 20% value and that is what it looks like. The source is considered to be hybrid with a threshold of 0.91.
If the d2v project is created with Forced Film, there are 61788 frames, and I used a credits start of 60680. If I do a non-force there are 77234 frames. The quality degredation happens at about that frame if the project were not forced film.
The same problem happened on another episode that was detected to be film (not pure film).
I am going to try to redo the encode using the credits frame from the non forced film count and see if that works. It took the new credits frame even though it it beyond the detected frame count, so hopefully it works.

AutoGK is very intelligent in this matter. You should always specify correct non FF frame number. Potentially user don't know what's gonna happen with the source during encoding, so if 30->24fps conversion applied (for FILM and mostly FILM hybrid sources) then that number is mutiplied by 0.8 automatically within AutoGK.

Ok, that is what I had guessed and was originally going to do. Then I saw that GK detected the FF number of frames, even though I thought it was going to do something different.
Is it possible to output the non FF number of frames if you expect that it will be used during the encode so it wouldn't mislead anyone?

I had this error 3 or 5 times on the included in AutoGK version, but have not saved logs...:( AFAIK it happens on the first pass when it's done (right after 100% appears) and happens again on all first passes of queued jobs untill reboot of the system. The second pass seems to be running OK even without the reboot, but I'm not sure.

Tried using 1.0 and 1.12b as well, both did the same thing. I did both encodes one right after the other. I didn't change anything. In fact I ripped another movie right afterward and it worked great. I gotta believe there is something different about the way the IFO is formatted or structured that is causing the problem. My best guess anyway. Does AutoGK use the Stream Information.txt and the .IFO or does it just use the Stream Information.txt? The DVD that I am trying to pull the 3 minute video off of is not a commercial DVD. It was made by a friend. It works fine in my set top DVD player and in my computer using WinDVD as the player, but when I rip any of the video's off of the DVD and try to encode them I get the error message.
Is there a place I could upload the Stream Information.txt and the .VOB files and .IFO to so that you can take a look at them?

Hello everybody.
First of all, thanks Len0x for this terribly useful program.
I know feature-request time is over, but I wanted to suggest a little cosmetic detail: I don't know the rest of you but I use Morgan Stream Switcher and it supports IAS# tags. These tags allow to define a name for each audio stream. These names appear then in WMP menus. For example, if my movie has two audio tracks, English first and then Spanish, I add this to my VDubMod script:
VirtualDub.video.AddComment(0x00000000,"IAS1","English");
VirtualDub.video.AddComment(0x00000000,"IAS2","Espa\xc3\xb1ol");
(That weird thing in the second line is the UTF-8 encoded string "Espaņol")
AutoGK knows the languages the user has picked, so I think it shouldn't be difficult to add this "feature". It's not a problem for me to add these tags later, but it would be a nice touch to have them "from the box".

Ydobon

I have v1.10 & v1.12 installed on 2 different computers, and with neither does Ctrl-F10 work. Why can't the Second Audio option be put into Advanced Settings?
Thanks.

(Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh.)
Can somebody help me out? I thought I had the annoying red/green ghosting narrowed down to a Decomb bug, but now I just have no idea about anything. Where am I? How did I get here? (etc)
This example has literally nothing to do with AutoGK, but since I sort of stumbled upon this bug using the program, I figured I'd post about it here.
Using this minimal AVS script, I reproduced the bug (note the absence of the autocrop filter):
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\mpeg2dec3.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\decomb.dll")
mpeg2source("D:\HEARTBREAKERS\temp.d2v")
crop(0,2,720,476)
Telecide(order=1,guide=1).Decimate()
levels(0,2,255,0,255)
http://home.columbus.rr.com/carraway6/heartbreakers01.jpg
If I change the crop value to either (0,0,720,476) or (0,4,720,476), the problem goes away. (To save bandwidth, you can CLICK (http://home.columbus.rr.com/carraway6/heartbreakers02.jpg) for proof that I am not lying.)
Similarly, if I change the second instance of hmultof=4 to hmultof=8 in AutoGK produced AVS scripts that also have the problem, it goes away.
So, what does this mean, where is the bug, and is there any chance of this being fixed in AutoGK (or Decomb!)? Help!
EDIT: Ah, I also want to add that removing crop() or putting Telecide before crop also fixes it. But, still, help!

How come AutoGK uses vdubmod 1.5.4 and gknot uses vdubmod1.5.10?
I'm using AutoGK 1.0

Quality on quality based encodes seems to have fallen back??
What width is used on QBE? is it always full width

Carraway-
So, what does this mean, where is the bug, and is there any chance of this being fixed in AutoGK (or Decomb!)?
The problem results from not cropping the height in multiples of 4 (the top and bottom crops must each be a multiple of 4, not just the resulting height) when dealing with interlaced material (which it is before IVTC is performed). The answer is to put Telecide/Decimate before Crop if you're not planning on cropping that way. It's not a Decomb bug, as the Decomb Doc states clearly:
Do not resize vertically before applying Decomb.
And it's not a problem in GKnot, as my 0.28.7.2 version has the IVTC before Crop:
Telecide(order=1,guide=1).Decimate()
# or use
#IVTC(44,11,95)
#GreedyHMA(1,0,4,0,0,0,0,0)
#
# CROPPING
crop(44,22,428,338)
So maybe you have an older version (but I don't remember it being any different in older versions), or maybe you've been messing with the order without quite understanding what you're doing. Either that, or you were fooling around trying to reproduce the AutoGK problem by using GKnot.
So maybe AutoGK can benefit from handling the problem the same way as does GKnot (Crop after IVTC).
Edited later to correct a couple of backwards things I said, and to make it clearer, I hope. Thanks, Carraway, for not calling me on it.
