all hail Len0x! :D well, the job queue feature just made an otherwise shitty day a good one! Of course, now, I'm not going to see the light of day for a week, going to queue up the dozen or so dvd's sitting on my HD.
great work!

well, I dont mind turning them off AutoGk with jobs queue is much better than any lousy XP theme ;)
Once again THANK YOU len0x

Started playing with .85a Looks great. Doing some encoding testing on two different systems.
Noticed a couple of things. Entered an item in the job queue then exited AutoGK. Fired up AutoGK again and items in queue were no longer there. Not sure whether the queue is intended to be persistent or not.
:thanks: Absolutely awesome that you can add job's to the queue after you have started your first encode going.
Thanks for the update!!!!

I don't understand ... the queue will enable you to see the light again ;) Once you queued em all up your presence will no longer be required and you can go out. I figure you were only excited like the rest of the people here ;)

I found and fixed transparency problem. No other changes though.
P.S. Queue is not supposed to be persistent (yet may be).

I think I didn't stress that enough in the history: You should enable "include PGC and ANGLE in file names" in DVDDecrypters IFO mode options, so that you won't have any probs with subtitles (and please use latest DVDDecrypter which was suppose to improve subtitles detection a lot).

oh you got that right! excited is an understatement... no more waking up at 3am to queue up the next encode :p
I'll be even happier when/if queue can be saved, especially if the power goes out, or you blow a circuit (as I often do).

Definately love the job queue. Testing it on three different workstations. Got a server on the back end that I dump all of the files to and then queue up the three workstations to crank all night long, one after another.
Ok, so I ran into another "nice to have" certainly not critical but definately nice to have especially when you have a number of jobs in the queue. It would be really nice to be able to right mouse click on the jobs in the queue and have a info box pop up that shows all of the details of the queued job you right clicked on (source directory, target directory, target size, advanced options, etc., etc.) This could also be implmented as bubble help. A bubble could appear with the info in it without even right mouse clicking when you fly the mouse over each item in the queue.
Definately not telling you I don't like your cherry pie len0x. I love the cherry (AutoGK) pie. I get a bonus at the end of the month. I will be forwarding another pie payment the first week in February.

P.S. In my feeble attempt to be of some use, I created icons for the up, down and del buttons for the queue. I don't know whether you have any interest in them. Basic, nice looking and functional (IMHO :D ). where (and how) should I upload them or should I upload them at all? ;)

Wow! Honestly, WOW! That's all I have to say. It's getting better with every version. The que is GREAT!
Two suggestions. First, my pathnames for my files are usually pretty long so it would be great if you could add a horizontal scroll bar to the que so I can actually see which files I have on que. Second, (this is if you decide against the horizontal scrool bar because it makes it look more cluttered), I think it would be better if the que and status windows were on top of eachother rather than side by side.

Yea, 14 - 16 hours means you need a new computer ASAP. : ) Brings up a question that I have been wondering about, how many average fps are you guys getting out there? Depending on which drive I am coming from and going to, I have seen up to 75fps. My machine is a dual Athlon 1.6 gig and getting the best speed is from the 15k Cheetah scsi HD. And this is using xvid of course. Just wondering what everyone else is getting.

Woohoo! Job Queue. Now all I need is drive space.
@Len0x
I don't know what your to do list looks like but maybe a neat feature might be that the textboxes that list the output directory could be directly editable and not clear when you change input directory. I this might help when queing several jobs to run. You could just change a number at the end of the file name and click "add job". Regardless AutoGK rules and has made me more confident in using the individual tools it uses.

My suggestions (some of which may already be in place)
change bubble text of add job to "add job to job queue"
change bubble text of start to "start processing job queue"
add encode finished message in log file when each encode is finished
add job queue finished message in log file when job queue is finished
release output file when each encode is finished, even if autogk is still active
Check that output file names are different (or add some suffix letter if they are, with message in log file)
persistent job queue (with option to clear it on start up of autogk)
Sound seems louder now (waaahaay!) . ALso maybe there should be a wizard/scribe to go thru the options and give people some very broad hints about what to expect eg compression ratio's (90-110mins fitting into 700mb, 256kbs mp3 is hiquality whereas 96kbs mp3 is low quality .. why to use divx or xvid..standalone compatibility (only divx ATM). Tell people they can add another job even when one is already running,. as most programs cant do this, so people may not expect it. :)
Future suggestions...(very speculative)
Maybe add an option to fire up nero5.5 with output file ready to burn?? or some other free burning software :D
also "I have seen up to 75fps" on an 1.6 athlon ?? as none of the programs will take advantage of dual cpu.. not realistic.

Actually virtualdubmod and xvid put both processors at around 96- 98% when I am encoding with AutoGK, and when I used vidomi (for a very short time before AutoGK came out) it used 100% of both processors. Werid huh  I can grab a screen shot if you wish?

Yeah i kinda need to search for this post of yours to find out how auto subs are enabled in that situtation. maybe you need to say that in the first post. G R E A T J O B !!!
i'm testing it roughly right now :D
EDIT: nope. it doesn't work for me. i still need to make the custom subs settings file for it to get the subs.
note that what i did was update autogk to 0.86, update dvd decrypter to 3.1.9.0 and choose ifo mode and tick the pgs and angle in file names. offcourse i ripped again the episode :)

I don't know if it's available or not (either in the program or a log file etc)... is there a way to see the exact settings autoGK used for xvid, so I could write them down to use in other apps?
outstanding work so far, except for latest xvid support (I know, I know, when it's stable) I see no other things that need to be done.. it's just so perfect!

Also codec control would be a great feature in there somewhere. Just so you can change the rip speed of the first and second passes to obtain better quality since it looks as though it uses standard for both passes.

Hello there,
I updated AGK to 0.86 version but when the movie is finish I have an error (ntdll).
I use divx 5.02 pro 100% in target quality, ac3 and 720 of fixed width.
But the movies is perfect....
I don't know what is the problem, because the crash show on 2 different PC.
Thanks in advance.

can you post the name of the ifo files in the dir and contents of vobsub.params for both cases (with and without override file).

it could be a real bummer if you forget to change the name of the file and everything will be overwritten :) That is why I explicitly clear output file name...

This may be out of the context of this thread, but...
I did an encode with subtitles using the "external sub" option and it gave me a *.sub and *.idx. When I play with Media Player Classic, or either Windows Media Players, DirectVobSub is loaded and shows "English" and "Show Subtitles" but I never see subtitles.
Am I doing something wrong or should I be using a different player?
I've also tried renaming the .sub to .srt and .ssa as I've seen with some other programs and when renamed, DirectVobSub doesn't automatically start, so I guess that's wrong, too.
JJ
Edit...
Ok, I'm an idiot...
I didn't realize that you have to open DirectVobSub and load the .idx file. I saw something new down in the systray.
I'm sorry.
Hehehe...

doubleJ: I think you could make your life a little easier by (part from reading the docs:) ) using the same name on your .idx/.sub files as on your .avi-file. (movie.avi -> movie.idx/movie.sub). If you use that method DirectVobSub should fire up automatically choosing the subtitlefiles for you.

ok i've searched and searched and I can't get my external subs to work. It's complaing about winrar (can't find)and switches to internal subs.
I've found a couple of posts that state that you need to fire up winrar. do a 'browse to folder' to the winrar install directory then close winrar.
I've checked through the registry and things look ok.
I am using winrar 3.20 ( 40 day trail ) installed in C:\program files\winrar
Thanks in advance

What about if the output file button is not clicked then AutoGK appends the current file name with a number. eg the current file name is freakyfriday.avi and the input directory or other encode options change the output file name is changed to freakyfriday_1.avi But if none of the options have changed then a warning is displayed when the start button is click eg "You have already ran this encode, running again will overwrite your previous encode"

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but if explorer crashes and gets restarted and you have the program minimized to the tray, there is then no way of getting the window back again (other than to use external window hiding/showing applications).
Can you either make it so that it adds itself to the tray again when explorer restarts, or alternatively (and no doubt easier), make it so that the window is made visible if the program is reran when already running (so all you need to do to get the window back on an explorer crash is to rerun the program again).

I was out of town on business for a couple of Days (left early Wednesday morning and got home Thursday afternoon). I figured that with being out of town for two days that would be an optimal time for the queue to get a workout. Well, I had a strange thing happen, I had one workstation that had 6 TV episodes queued and it worked without a problem. I had another workstation that had 2 movies queued and it did the first one fine, but when it started the second one it fired up DVD2AVI and just sat there. I saw it when I got home today and wondered if the system was locked up, but it wasn't and so out of curiosity I clicked on the file menu (in DVD2AVI) chose open and it opened to the correct directory and I chose the VOB's and chose ok and DVD2AVI started processing. It is still processing so I won't know till later if it continues through and processes everything ok. I had another workstation and it did the exact same thing only it had 3 movies in it's queue. It did the first two fine and stopped in exactly the same place on the third, having loaded DVD2AVI, but not processing any VOB files. I opened th VOB's and it is currently also processing the final movie in it's queue. Anybody else experience anything like this. It is strange that it in both cases it did all but the last entry in the queue and then it stalled as if all of the parameters weren't being passed to DVD2AVI.
AZEncoder-
<--- Edit --->
Well as I mentioned above I started DVD2AVI doing its thing (picked the VOB files, etc.) and then left it. On both machines DVD2AVI did its part of the bargain and AutoGK picked up where they left off and recovered like nothing is wrong. It executed BeSweet and then VDub and they are both encoding as I add/edit this message. I am completely stumped. The only thing I can think of is that somehow AutoGK didn't pass part of the parameters to DVD2AVI.

about the suggestions the visual stuff(buttons) could be worked out for sure and maybe the program needs to be more solid (avisynth dvd2avi...) yeah those deserve the credit but it would be more tidy as a whole. And the dvddecrypter options on a welcome sceen? :P kidin.

I had this same problem in GK and AutoGK ever since the tray icon option was added. The only solution as of now is to restart the computer. Luckily explorer doesn't crash that often for me or it'd be a real pain. It would be nice if tere were a way to get it back.

I am assuming that when the program is minimized the form is hidden and this is why when the icon is lost from the systray it can not be restored. What about an option in the program "minimize to tray" could be a check box or and option when the title bar is right clicked.

I have yet to see this error... I always minimize it, and it comes back when I want. (XP Pro).
I am assuming you're referring to the AutoGK program and not vdub or dvd2avi
jdion81
16th January 2004, 06:19
The issue is that if you have autogk running and minmized (to the system tray) and explorer crashes for some reason (which a lot of times causes programs in the systray to dissappear) AutoGK may not be able to be restored.

i have that same problem too.. always crashing the winXP pro/explorer. its really annoying, to get things back i usually have to click the program's shortcut icons again and it comes back up... like with kaz** lite etc. but it just loads a whole new autoGK.. this needs to be fixed i guess.

wow len0x!
your app is developing fast, or better: you are developping it fast..
and it is good. today i compared a rip i made really carefull about a year or so ago and autogk simply did it slightly better. of course, xvid has improved in that time, but your app simply does rips with reliably good quality!
especially since there now is a job-queue, i would love to have a feature to automatically take care of a second audio-track, so i wouldn't have to encode and mux it seperately anymore. :)
would it be a major hassle to implement this?

First, I would like to congratulate Lenox on this mighty fine peace of work!
Ive been using the program quite frequently although I must admit that GK is still my favorite, I just hope Lenox will find the time to keep working on the further development of GK, as well as developing AutoGK, even though I can imagine that its gonna be tough.
Anyway I havent posted here before because Ive never really had any problems, that werent already answered here or fixed even before I got the time to ask, so this is a first and its not even my problem!
What it is, is that I gave the program to one of my friends a couple of weeks ago (he does not have any internet) and he has been having the same problem every time he uses it, the good old .Audio and overhead size is more than target video size ! problem! Which I thought had been recognized and fixed way back, we updated to 0.86 Alpha but the problem still insists.
Any help would be deeply appreciated Thanks.

@len0x
something you may want to put on the AutoGK radar for the future. Many people I know are converting movies to run on pocket pc ( typically divx + mp3 sound ). It seem to me that autogk could easily be used for this.
A full length movie will usually fit on a 256Mb SD card with a video bit rate of about 200-220 Kbps and the audio at 24000 Hz, 32kbps Mono. The available screen is normally 320x240 so a widescreen frame normally sits are 320x144 or 320x160
Older palmtops start to drop frames during playback if the video bit rate goes over about 260. New ipaqs etc can happily play at higher bitrates.
So basically most of this is already in AutoGK. You would probably want to add a 32 kbps setting in the MP3 config and convert to mono but that would be it.
The job queue is superb BTW.

just out of curiosity...
when/if the new xvid becomes a stable release, how will auto GK detect if it's an animated or live movie and enable 'cartoon mode'?
I'm guessing a checkbox in the advance tab
