Everything done for preview atm is overwritten during encoding process. But you can edit IDX file while analyzing video source process is running...

Hi everybody!!
This is my first post here and all I can say is... wow!!!
Very good job len0x! I've trying this program since 0.30 beta and I haven't found any bug so that's the reason I've never write down here since now.
Now that the application raise stable status I think it's the moment to do my first contribution. I'm doing the translation of the tutorial to Spanish, hope I'll finish it not too late.
But I don't have any web to put it, so when it's finished, what can I do with it? I can mail it to you lenOx, I think this could be the best idea. What do you think?
That's all, thankU for this wonderful program :D

Yes, you can just email the HTML translation to me. I'll put it online as soon as I make a small webpage which will list all the translations.

My Liteon LVD 2001 arriving tomorrow - then I'll tell you :)
P.S. noone notice this bug in 0.5: preview for some reasons now requires analysis step... I know why now, but funny that nobody noticed that before... In fact Doom9 included this as a feature in his guide :) lol There shouldn't be analysis step for preview.
*Edit* Also I might have a feedback on Kiss 1000 if Amazon is quick enough to deliver it before Christmas (my friend ordered it).

wouldt be nice, if oyu can sent me you opinion about the players as a privat message or mail.. :D
i've got to say: kiss players have problems with vbr audio, so sound gets out of sync...
to be honest: i've never used the preview function :P

I was just thinking - I'd like to keep statistics about those ones since AutoGK is targeted towards hardware players. This way I can have a database and build profiles. So that for instance on the main screen you're able to select the player and that will automatically enable/disable features of codec/audio which are supported/not supported by that particular player.
That's a cunning plan I think :)

as i know, because i talked alot with other people about standalones, up to know nearly every player has prblemems with vbr audio, that's why i'm searching for one without that problems. and as we all know up to now no player has or has at least a excaptyble b-frame compatiblity...

This thread is slowing down a bit. It's time to shake it up! Have a look at version 0.6 here:
http://len0xmirror1.serveftp.net/~len0x/AutoGK.0.64.beta.zip
what's new:
- divx 5.1.1 pro support added (it doesn't check if it's installed already)
- preview no longer require analysis
- audio encoding and sub indexing is done after analysis step
Enjoy (divx support is a first draft, possibly bugz are on the way :))

Hi, does it work with 5.02 & 5.05? Please don't be too harsh telling me "try it by yourself" ;)
- audio encoding and sub indexing is done after analysis step
Does it mean that also compressibility test is made before audio encoding? I think it could be very useful, so one can do a 1 cd try, and if auto resolution is too low, he can go for 2 cd WITHOUT spending time in audio encoding (yes, I know that usually VBR encodings are not really precise, but...)
Bye.

I honestly don't know. I'm not planning to support those versions though. If registry settings are compatible then I see no reasons why it shouldn't work, but resize algorythm is tuned to work with 5.1.1

No it doesn't mean that :) Audio still encoded before comp test.

Can you please point me to a link that explain in what the 5.1.1 resize algorythm differ from 5.0x ones? Just for curiosity...

You might be able to make it work though. Search for info in the Vidomi forum (Vidomi forum members have continued support through all the DivX 5 releases.) Look at the changes that were necessary in the Vidomi "externalcodec.cfg" file. Sorry I don't have the info handy ATM.

Thanks calinb, but how could I use divx5BitrateOffset=12 and divx5VbrModeOffset=8 settings in AutoGK?

You didn't get it - resize algorithm of AutoGK, not divx. AutoGK relies on comp test for resizing and parameters are adjusted after that. But adjustments are not fully precise - they are estimates of effect of different parameters (i.e. for instance b-frames increase compressibility by n%...). all this is tuned to a particular version of divx/xvid. so even if new codec it totally compatible with old one then actual compressibilities are not the same (and this is the case 5.0.5 vs 5.1.1). So you just might be off with those calculation and not get best quality/resolution/size ratio...
@calinb
What does vidomi and its forum has to do with AutoGK? Do not confuse ppl, please.

It's not me, it's my poor english
If this time I've understood exactly, to make AutoGk work perfectly as usual I have to download DivX 5.1.1 Pro. No problem, one reason to try it. Thanks.

I have not confused! I will defend my vidomi reference as follows: The purpose of these forums is to help forum members and readers better understand and use the programs of interest. In this case, the program of interest is AutoGK, but yotsuya-san wishes to use it in a non-standard way. That's okay by me and interested parties, such as myself, should be free to help him.
If vidomi or the vidomi forum contains resources or information that is useful to that end, such references should be tolerated by the developers of "competing" programs and the mods of this forum. I participate in several forums myself and I'm a mod of a couple of forums too (not vidomi, BTW) and I've noticed an upleasant lack of tolerance for posts such as mine among a few doom9 leaders and mods. I'm not the only one who's been occasionally questioned over a post that was interpreted as "off-topic." I'd like to see a bit more tolerance and understanding evolve here at doom9.
<set soapbox off>
I very much hope you understand and accept my explanation, len0x and thank you very much for your excellent contributions.
@yotsuya-san: I don't know yet, but I sometimes use DivX 5.02 too, so I'll let you know if I find a method. It sounds like you were already aware of the issue.

@len0x,
Yesterday I tried Indiana Jones III with 0.5, XviD, Maximum Quality. Output file size was 3.01-GB. Could not believe my eyes. Good job and nice tool, pal!
[02-12-2003 6:56:53] Duration was: 4 hours 5 minutes 6 seconds
[02-12-2003 6:56:54] Speed was: 12,41 fps.
Now trying same movie with 0.6 DivX.
Do you plan to support minimal Codec setup to select a higher quant for single pass fans?

DivX Mod Squad
While Dr.Divx is great for the newbie to divx encoding, it is a program that is still in it's infancy and does not have real flexibility right now. Why don't you use the Gordian Knot method which is basically a bunch of freeware tools (DVD2AVI, Virtualdubmod, Nandub etc) wrapped up in a great GUI. It's nowhere near as easy to use as Dr. Divx but has lots more to offer in the flexibility department. Gordian Knot and a great guide to go with it can be found at doom9's:
http://www.doom9.org
The whole thread is interesting too:

up to know nearly every player has prblemems with vbr audio,Hmm.. I think you haven't been in the hardware players forum for a while.. those problems have long been resolved with firmware upgrades. If a player still has problems with such audio, then it belongs to the trash. Even the cheapest players today have no beef with VBR MP3 (I've watched more than my share of such movies on my elta player and after the first firmware upgrade which introduced VBR compatibility, I've never had any problems).
an upleasant lack of tolerance for posts such as mine among a few doom9 leaders and mods.Alright, since there's only one leader (me) I think I deserve an explanation or I take this as an insult against my team. And do it in private please.

Wow, 5 days of paitent waiting and searching.. heres my problem, Audio and video are not syncronized, VBR any rate or fixed any rate. Using Auto Gordian Knot or Gordian Knot with XVid or DivX gives me these results. Re-installed my pc Win2k with DirectX 9b and same results. AMD 1.5 Ghz - 256MB Ram - 128BM video card.
Final Video Details - Perfect Sound, Perfect Video Compression and picture, big size 700MB size perfect. Sound seems to be a 26 Second delay from audio to video sync, sound started first.
Pls Help, Any other details you need?

Hi and welcome-
Sorry you had to wait so long. Did you use DVDDecrypter in IFO Mode, as you should, and not in File Mode?

As far as i know, yes. there are ifo files in the directory, will get another dvd and test again. Thanks

Quality based encoding? Yes, will do % of max size settings at some point.

Finally with AutoGk with DivX support!. Wait is over!. Thanks.
May I ask what settings of divx is used by default?:)
Standard speed, no PV, no preprocessing, B-frames, no QPEL, no GMC - actually for two pass encoding Home Theatre profile is used. Maximum quality is no profiles, no bframes.
I'm evaluating Normal PP as a method for increasing compressibility (since we don't have matrixes in DivX and therefor have 1 less parameter which is adjusted atm)

Thanks len0x.
EDIT
I meant b-frames = Bidirectional encoding. not GMC. sorry my mistake, which is alrady included. :stupid:

I suppose versions 0.6x Beta are based in 0.5 stable version, so all we need to test is divx encoding and not xvid encoding. am i ok?

I'm testing AGK6.4b with Codec Divx 5.02 pro.
I prefere maximum quality and of course unlimited size and the
program work very good.
But I think that the best setting for codec divx for quality
is use bidirectional encoding select and 250 on max keyframe
interval.
Best wishes.
