I don't think this is necessary, since AutoGK just calls DVD2AVI to demux the audio. You can do this yourself, just open the vobs in DVD2AVI and demux the audio.

finally stable version is out - nothing new since 0.98 apart from updated documentation and the fact that those who afraid to use beta software can now use it :)
P.S. I'll be away from development environment for 10 days, so hopefully nothing serious will be discovered.
P.P.S. I finally had a look at XviD 1.0, so beta with support for it should be available in 2-3 weeks time.

with version 1.0 (and 98 beta )
i sometimes when launching AUTOGK get this error
RUNTIME ERROR 216 At 004035D6
i only happen occasionally my cofig is in my sig ive got hyperthreading on. most of the time it just launches fine and works well. Ive not set it to compatibility mode and when i launches it works fine (in fact very very well)
JEREMY
also next question why if divx is chosen for autogk does it only do two passes ?? and not the minimum 3 (from what ive heard here) ive got 5.1.1. set to normal mode (ie not slow or slowest but i dont know what autogk uses)
JEREMY
thanks for a great tool im doing DS9 and its working beautifully so much easier than doing them by GK ep by ep

stable 1.0 is released
Great News, lenox! Thank you so much!
Especially the announcement of the XviD 1.0 support for AutoGk was something I've waited for.

Good day! I use Auto Gordian Knot 0.8 and see what is very nise =)
But video encoding very long prosess...so i think will be great support some batch mode (such as have dr.divx) or just commandline?
Will be great, if you can select 2-3 films, go sleep, and at morning have all operations done!
PS.Sorry english not my moser language :/
With respect, Lexx

Hi Lexx, and welcome to the forum-
Will be great, if you can select 2-3 films, go sleep, and at morning have all operations done!
Just upgrade to 1.0, and all your dreams will be answered (well, Batch Mode anyway).

Just another question: is there a way to either:
a) permanently set the affinity of virtual dub to all processors or
b) to automatically make sure that whenever virtual dub is started its affinity is set to all processors?
Here I am not talking about hyperthreading (I tried enabling it once but I didn't like the results) but two physically different cpus.
Most programs seem to set themselves up fine (i.e. using all resources) but there are a couple (such as virtual dub) that don't - which is quite annoying especially when running it in batch mode.
Regarding stability (in case it's just a matter of calling virtual dub with a special switch): I have so far encoded about 20 movies and no problem whatsoever when enabling the two cpus (unlike with hyperthreading that does seem to lower stability).
Thanks

What is that suppose to mean?

...and you're not using a current version of AutoGK, right? That bug was fixed 4 or 5 updates ago - install the v-1.0 stable release and you should be good to with subtitles.

@ jurij
Maybe the ''trick'' discussed on several pages of this thread (a long time ago)will give you success.
Just open Winrar manually one time (and close it again)right before starting AutoGK. Maybe the path to winrar is not correctly set in the windows registry of your machine. Should be C:\Programs\Winrar....
Good luck.
Never had this kind of trouble, even on former releases of AutoGk, so just a suggestion.

CBR@144 simply does not exist with Lame. I think it should be made not avaiable through AutoGK...just choose 128 or 160 if you want CBR audio, or go to ABR if you want 144 kbps.

Hi-
Does AutoGK have problems with that sort of thing?
Yes, it does. What did you do, remove the Audio with Stream Processing in DVDDecrypter? That's a guaranteed recipe for failure. At the moment AutoGK doesn't have the option to not do any audio processing, so it will abort if it doesn't find any Audio Streams.
The guide isn't clear on that point, but it's already been rewritten (but not yet published) to make it more clear.

movie = mpeg2source("C:\tmp\gangs\gk_tmp\gony_alt.d2v")
What happened to your mpeg2source?
Why is there an ''*_alt'' in your ''gony_alt.d2v'' DVD2AVI file?
Never did happen to me, that AutoGK changes names of the files.
Maybe you fiddled around with *.d2v files before encoding with AutoGK.
and something was left in the path.
Make sure, before starting AutoGK, that the Folder you are encoding to is empty. Only the ripped DVD Files from DVDDecrypter should be there.

Okay, I started backing up some of my Star Trek Deep Space Nine episodes and the size is way off. It is approximately 45 minutes long usually a little more than 65,000 frames and I am choosing to make them 700MB so they will fit on a single CD. I have encoded approximately 130 movies or TV episdoes with a variety of the betas as well as the 1.0 stable version and never was off by more than 1 or 2MB's. I have encoded 4 episodes and all of them have been off anywhere from 20MB to 40MB short of the 700MB size I am shooting for. They are always short. Is there something I am missing? Is the comp test too short? Anybody got any ideas?
I used 1.0 and Xvid on all 4 of them. I am going to try it with the Divx codec and see what happens. FYI . . . I encode everything at forced 640 width I choose auto for the audio. No subtitles, AC3 2Ch for audio.

as you said, you used 700mb for 45min and fixed width of 640, i think, that the episodes don't need mor space/bitrate do ahve 100% quality in that fixed resolution. Try auto width or try putting episode on 350MB width mp3 audio, you'll see that there isn't any undersize. It's just the fact, that you episodes don't need more bitrate to have 100% quality in this resolution...

Yeah, I think I agree with Gizmo. If you look at the log, what was the compress test result? If it's over 100% or even close to it, then you maxed out the quality and size. They look good, don't they?
And using DivX 5 should produce an even smaller size, since it uses a softer matrix.

Thanks guys for helping me learn more about the encoding process. I realize I am still a total amatuer, but now I know a little more about compressibility. See below for the section of the log file that gives me the clues to my own ignorance.
Thanks again!
As part of the documentation it might be useful for a lot of us newbies to create a walk through explanation of key lines/information in the log file.

Hi-
As part of the documentation it might be useful for a lot of us newbies to create a walk through explanation of key lines/information in the log file.
Your wish is my command. (http://len0xmirror1.serveftp.net/~len0x/tutorial/AutoGK.html#5)

Regarding the post below. Encoded today with AutoGK v1.0 (sorry it took so long) and it still looks like crap with exactly the same problems. Extremly bad on all my computers! I haven't seen such a bad encode in a loong time, so something must be wrong with detection of interlacing maybe - not that I know that much about the source material.
Someone must have a solution to this thing!! :)
Here is the complete logfile:

When I encode my Buffy Season 3 set (PAL) I get this annoying red and green ghosting as seen on the capture below (image is from a 440mb encode of episode 18, and is cropped for clarity). As you can see Angel is just a moment from appearing.

Anyone have ANY idea what is causing this? Learning & using GK is not an option for stuff like encoding a whole season of Buffy... I know someone will tell me to search the forum, but I have, and didn't find any clue as to what this might be.
len0x: Thank you for a great product! It's great for us that just occasionally encode stuff. I even donated a few months ago - might do that again if the product improves. But please don't be so afraid of introducing advanced options - it's easy to hide such things from the 1click kiddies!!!

Oh... Another bug. The encode above was encoded with two AC3 tracks. One of them was converted to MP3 increasing its size and making it crappy quality. Original AC3 file was 30 mb. MP3 turned out to be 41 mb. I hope I have an old version of Auto GK somewhere. This is not good AT ALL!!!!!

Hi-
Oh... Another bug.
That's not a bug; that's a feature. The second audio track will be encoded at MP3 ABR 128 by default. It's documented in the guide:
See here (http://len0xmirror1.serveftp.net/~len0x/tutorial/AutoGK.html#4)
I'm not quite sure how the MP3 wound up larger than the AC3, unless that AC3 was Mono to begin with. One thing you might try is to go into Advanced Settings and set it for AC3 instead of Auto. I'm not positive it'll work to make them both AC3, but I think it will.
About your ghosting problem; I'm not positive about this, and I'd have to see a vob sample to be sure, and I didn't think that AutoGK made this kind of mistake. There's a good chance that it shouldn't have been deinterlaced, but Telecide applied to realign the fields to make progressive frames. If that's true, then the ghosting would disappear. On the other hand, there's also a good chance that the transfer to PAL was botched for the Buffy DVDs, and deinterlacing is all that could be done, and AutoGK chose correctly. Maybe someone that has encoded the Buffy PAL series will see this and comment. But again, I'd have to see a vob sample to be sure. If you think you can make one available to me, then PM me about how I can get it, and I'll have a look.

I've found what might be a bug with AutoGK encoding sources with non-standard AR. I just encoded an interview from the Frida dvd which had an AR close to 4:3, and AutoGK has chopped off the top and bottom to give an AR close to 16:9
MPC screengrabs: here (http://www.dart.net.au/users/butters/frida2.jpg) is the source, here (http://www.dart.net.au/users/butters/frida.jpg) is the encoded result. Logfile is here (http://www.dart.net.au/users/butters/Salma_gk.txt).
Something similar happened with an interview I encoded from another dvd, although I didn't realise until after I had deleted the vobs & logfiles. But I can say for sure that this is the second time it's happened with AutoGK 1.0. This occurred when I encoded to a fixed file size, and also to a 60% target quality.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Gordie-
I can't get the source (it says this page can't be found), so I can't tell if you're correct (although I'm pretty sure you are). However, it's not at all uncommon for the extras to be widescreen, yet encoded with a DAR of 4:3. And there's a good chance also that part of that particular extra has widescreen footage (from the movie, perhaps) as well as full screen parts. If it encodes the whole thing as fullscreen, then the widescreen parts will have black bars above and below. I do agree with you that it would be better that way. Then nothing gets cut off (like Salma Hayak's lovely head). It's kind of a choice that AutoGK makes. Maybe there's more widescreen parts in that extra than fullscreen parts. I think if you want to encode it as fullscreen, you may have to do it through the full GKnot.
But maybe len0x will have something to say when he gets back.
Iron and Wine sound a lot like Simon And Garfunkel. Are you one of the members? Nice guitar picking. Nice harmonies.

I didn't think of that, but after watching the interview I can say that the whole thing is fullscreen, there is no footage other than the interview. I fixed my links above so it's easier to see what I mean. A bit of extra information: this happened with DivX 5.1.1, but also happened after I restarted AutoGK and used the "Preview" option.

No it's not me :), just a track from their latest album. The webpage is here (http://www.ironandwine.com/), they're on Sub Pop.

Hey Gordie-
Yep, you made a believer out of me. I don't know why it wound up like that. Gotta wait for len0x to get back to see if he can explain it.

I'm very interested on AVI input for Auto GK in addition to VOB's input. Sometimes I need to re-encode old AVI files because they have problems on standalones because of QPel & another things.
I know it can be made using VirtualDubMod but : imagine you want to put 7 movies of 700MB each onto one single DVD. Of course they have to be recompressed to 640MB but for preserving quality, movie has to be resized down and I don't know another program like Auto GK can do it at the same quality and using batch mode (Dr. DivX is a shit).
I think other users wants too this feature. I'm not sure len0x want to implement it but I think it will be very useful and is very very simply to program. It's a pity source code is not available...

got a weirdo here:
after installing autogk on a freshly installed w2k machine (p4) i was able to fire it up exactly once. the next time i booted the machine, i got the message "autogk has experienced a problem and nedds to be closed". that's it.
neiter uninstalling an reinstalling, nor any direct-x- or windows-updates do the trick.
any ideas around? i really don't want to reinstall windows..

Hypertreading enabled?
I don't know if on a win 2000 machine you can put AutoGk in win98 comptibility mode.
Or try disabling hypertreading in bios, just for testing.
Good luck!
Have you tried former AutoGk Installs, maybe 0.80 version?
cheers

so HT may cause problems under XP as well? I've almost converted a friend of mine to autoGK, but he has an HT capable processor...

I have a computer running two processors HT capable and I must say that usually when I enable HT I get a loss in performace so I think that the HT problem is not a big one (although virtualdub setting its affinity to only one of the two processor rather than both is v. annoying as that is a significant performace loss when I run a batch and I am away).
Also if you enable win98 compatibility mode on AGK you can run it even with HT enabled - however I think it's a tad unstable.

i will try the suggested options. what makes me wonder, though, is the fact that it did a complete encode right after istallation.
