It allows you to make manual cropping when threshold = 0 via four other parameters of autocrop's hidden option. I also did small refactoring for coming AVI support, so hopefully I didn't break anything.

Manual cropping: good news.

In order to get (my) parameters for cropping, what do I have to do?
Do I have to stop the process after DGIndex has finished its project, and load it into VDMod...
Of course I can use GK.
I am looking for the easiest way. :D

Is there a chance that AutoGk gets a hidden window, displaying the video for manual cropping ?

Or is it a feature for the hidden option tool?

Anyhow, AutoGK rocks!!! :)

sorry for my ignorance, after reading the hidden_optioin.txt, what's mod4 number?
Also if I'm trying to stip a 16:9 outta it's 4:3 AR and the LRTB value in GK is 4,4,66,66; what would be the proper .autocrop value to disable auto-cropping and set the said numbers?

Thanks.

Why can't AutoGK (as of v1.85 beta) properly parse IFO files? I've backed up a zillion DVDs to my hard drive with DVDshrink, and all the files are there. The subdirectories are there too, however AutoGK is the only program I use that can't understand how to read a directory as input.
Any advice appreciated, as I would really like to try this program.
Thanks!

This subject arises so frequently that has become "sticky":
Sticky: AutoGK, DVDDecrypter and other ripping methods (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=77941)

As for advice, burn (even to a virtual DVD) and re-rip in IFO mode.

Mod4 means dividable by 4.
.autocrop will look like this in your case:

0
10
0
4,4,66,66

Note there might be more cropping done to preserve AR. In GK you have "Smart Crop All", so if you're using it to see cropping values do not use it but just "Pixel" mode (as resolution is not known at that stage and smart crop will be done by AutoGK itself).

If at some point AutoGK assistant gets integrated into AutoGK and I feel like doing preview window inside, then yes. But its far too distant in the future.

P.S. About manual cropping - the feature I added was not to allow manual cropping but just possibility to correct autocrop, i.e. if you see in the preview that there are some parts of the movie that are not black bars that needs to be cropped then you just add them without disabling autocrop so that it crops more (those four crop values are for additional crop and only if threshold=0 then it becomes manual crop).

Thanks ydobon, Exoskeletor :D The sticky was quite informative, and I respect Len0x' decision.. of course I shall begin to wish for .d2v input ability next, but very quietly ;)

Now I have a further question, as I am finally capable of using AutoGK:
Doesn AutoGK use replaygain on the selected audio track before conversion to MP3? I'm testing now, but raised volume levels don't always imply replaygain... could be another, more clipping, gain method.

Thanks!

@riggits:

The changelog for version 1.19 says:

1.19 beta

- fixed runtime 216 error for HT CPUs on startup
- forced subs are correctly displayed in the preview when selected
- changed normalized parameter of BeSweet to hybridgain again
- CTRL-F9 now launches Hidden Options tool if it resides in the same dir as AutoGK (plus current path is propagated to it - requires version 0.6+)

So it uses hybridgain. afaik this was suggested by DSPguru (dev. of Besweet). as far as i remember AutoGK used postgain before it was changed in favour of hybridgain.

OK, I've noticed that a gain is applied during audio encoding... I must assume that it's a no-clipping gain, since the rest of this program is TOP notch!
Thanks Mn1 :D
Also thanks Len0x, for this superb tool! I've been using ARcalculator for so long, it's a real treat to have AutoGK do everything automatically :)

One observation: the Autocrop does not work on any anime I've tested; specifically, the Neon Genesis Evangelion series requires a ton of extra cropping at the sides before it's worth encoding..

8th January 2005, 05:10
Hi-

You can confirm that there's no clipping by opening the MP3 in MP3Gain and doing a track analysis.

But from my experience, even a PostGain doesn't result in clipping. It's when you mess with the DRC that you have to watch out.

And for some odd reason, DGINdex doesnt like MPEG2 DVD-streams captured from Digi-TV. Like i described earlier about that it grabs the audio from the very begining, it seeme to do this randomly on FULL-lenght streams i capture.

I'm not sure what couses this, but i think it is DGIndex, and it's lack of handle frame by frame, when it uses seconds by seconds, and therefor the audio gets corrupt when doing the "restore window + manualy set range ?

Can someone suggest a good program that can handle, load, MPEG2 DVD streams and cut out "unwanted" start + end + commercials, frame by frame.

I have tested : mpegshnitz, cuttermaran and a few others, none seeme to handle "direct load" of MPEG2 streams.

Will do len0x. While this is investigated i temp solved my problem by using Mpg2cut2 (freeware - search the forum) , instead of using the "range-method" in DGIndex. Works like a charm after that. Video and Audio seeme to be perfect in sync too. I'll do some further tests.

I think mono mp3 encoding is broken in the latest version. The last 2 movies I tried to encode with this option over the last few weeks come out with audio corrupted (it's nothing but static and squacks).

transcoding the .ac3 file seperately with besweet works fine, it has to be something that AutoGK is doing.

strange... i've encoded resident evil movie with autogk 1.83 and last xvid build from celtic_druid and i've got sound mistiming

I was wondering if anybody was successful on encoding this DVD? This and Little Black Book have been giving me problems. I even tried Nero Digital. I am sure it has something to do with new copy protection, but I have updated to latest DVDDecryptor build and rip seemed to be successful?

Using lameenc.dll dated 8/8/2003 @ 2:59pm and the following command line produced the 'good' mono encode:

-azid( -s mono -L -3db ) -ota( -hybridgain ) -lame( -m m --abr 70 )

Gspot reports the 'bad' audio as stereo, as does the mp3 decoder:

Audio Codec............: 0x0055(MP3, ISO) MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Sample Rate......: 48000 Hz
Audio Bitrate..........: 61 kb/s VBR
Audio Channel Count....: 2 channel(s)

The 'good' one is correctly detected as mono (1 channel).

It is going to be a lot of stuff supporting AVI input. Audio part is the most tricky as it has to work the same way as for DVD (either leave AC3/DTS/MP3 or convers to MP3 from PCM/DTS/AC3).

@Lenox

Exchanging about PCM, I don't know if it is AGK standard behaviour but got a 128 abr mp3 (80mb) out of a pcm to wav audio (975Mo) when keeping ac3/dts switch for a 1.1Gb final size. Its the Joe Cocker across midnight concert DVD stereo 1 audio track.
As a newby I remember not knowing what pcm quality was (high) and trusting AGK when using the ac3/dts for that occasion and for keeping quality ... :(
I manually (with Belight) tried the alt-preset-extreme mp3 settings to get about 230kbps vbr encode, 320 and 384 ac3 encodes. I finally decided to keep the 384 ac3 for 240 Mb. :)
Question: is 128 abr-mp3 not a little too low in quality? as it seems a feature of AGK, could you consider a 320 cbr mp3 instead of 128 abr mp3,so if users think its too much, they can downgrade to whatever abr mp3 smaller size (same reasoning apply when ac3 tracks are too big) ?

FAQ Q 2.3

128 is enough for non-music DVDs. If you require more you can always do it via advanced settings.

len0x

All hidden options now have a GUI inside AutoGK (CTRL-F9). Please do a sanity check on them - there must be some bugs :) Also file mode needs to be tested since I have new audio type detection routine in place (its possible just use VOBs from any other ripper if you don't need subs and know exactly which track corresponds to which language from DVD).

I missed to elaborate my arguments (cause)
You made a reply based on your understanding of my point (consequence)

While you're at thinking - movies usually have quite a bit of silence in them (or full of highly compressible material like human speech that doesn't have the whole frequency range), so spending 320kpbs on it seems to be a waste.

Hi,

My DVD is ripped to 'E:\wp\1.1'. So I run AutoGK, press CTRL-F9 and the path in AutoGK Assistant is 'E:\wp' instead of 'E:\wp\1.1'. All the files are saved in 'E:\wp' where there is no film.

There's nothing wrong with the AutoGk Website.
Just put your browser to default settings, mean don't kill or hide referrers and enable cookies. IE and Firefox will do.
The filesize shown is just a joke.
Just tested downloading a minute ago.

Why do i get with 1.86beta lower final result then with 1.80b. I ripped a Band of Brothers episode late December. But i had to do this one again because in some way on the bottom left there was something wrong with the rip.

So i decided today to try it again with this latest 1.86 version.

I just used the same configuration for both rips then and now:

XVID
1/5 DVD 896MB
AC3 6 channel sound
Subtitle Dutch
AC3/DTS
External Subtitles

First rip was done with 1.80b and XVID 1.02 and the second with 1.86b and XVID 1.03

But the final result is with 1.80b 700x404 and with 1.86b 608*336 resolution

And yes that makes a whole different, there is a lot more detail in the rip with the higher resolution

Here are the log files, first 1.80b and then 1.86b

Then i thought maybe 1.80b did something wrong then, so i decided to uninstall AUTOGK 1.86 and XVID, and installed the previous version 1.80b with XVID 1.02. And i did the rip and the result is again like the first time 700*404

Band of Brothers exists out of 10 episoded, i ripped only the first 6 yet with 1.80b, they are all around 700*400, today i tried episode 2,7&8 with 1.86b and they all get results around 600*330

I dont know if anything is wrong. Or maybe I'm the problem :P

OK, i know what is the "problem", it is XVID 1.0.3

Tried 1.80b with XVID 1.0.3 and the resolution becomes 608x352

Well it will be ok i think.

Hi mightyspawn,
I don't know if big differences between xvid 1.02 & 1.03, I have no problem with 1.03.
The difference in your 2 logs are use of softmatrix for 1.80b and use of sharpmatrix for 1.86b(nothing mentionned means sharpmatrix used). I usually aim for the use of the sharpmatrix so have a close look between the 2 encodes and see if the 1.86 is sharper with more details.
If interested different resolutions and matrix where discussed here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87744
:)
/Edited : Using Xvid 1.03 with 1.80b resulting in lower resolution +and+ sharper matrix are good news for me/
