Please len0x. I have posted at least 3 or 4 messages about AVI input on Auto GK, but I have no response from you. What is the reason ?. It seems you are only interested on Hyper Threading.
I'm planning to do myself a similar program to Auto GK that includes AVI input files recognition because I think you don't want (or you don't know how) to implement it.

What you are trying to do is not really difficult, but probably makes much less sense than other priorities. I don't think reencoding will improve quality, no matter your settings.

please be my guest...
The only reason I would be adding avi input support is for DV ppl, but that will come with generic DirectShow input support which takes considerable effort to implement and therefore won't be happening any time soon.

Sorry for my offensive words but I think AVI input is very important because there are a lot of DivX files actually incompatible with standalone players as for example "Kiss DP-450", because of QPel and another things like high bitrates on DivX 3.11 that freezes playing.
To r6d2
I don't want to improve quality of original AVI files, I simply want to convert files to obtain another that plays on standalones.Of course I can do it using virtualdub but I'm interested on job list and undot & auto resizing by quality Auto GK does because I want to put seven 700MB movies into one single DVD and of course movies have to be resized down and recompressed to 640MB to fit. Actually I only know "Dr. DivX" that do it automatically, but it only works with DivX and not with XviD (wich I prefer)and output quality has a big blocking effect.
Sorry another time for my offensive words but I believed len0x ignored my previous suggestions.

If your real need is re-encoding avis, you just need virtuadub, copy the audio stream and save in the job list the two passes for your new avi and you're done, autogk is supposed to make it easy dealing with vobs and ac3, not plain and easy avi...

You can even use GK if you want to re-encode avi's. I know I've done that with all my captures and it's worked fine with a simple Avisynth Script.

Hi len0x
First off I would like to say thank you for such a great program. I would however like to run a few suggestions by you:
1. I think it would be a great feature if you could preview/play the audio tracks in AutoGK instead of having to use another program to see which track is the correct audio track that you wish to encode (and also not have to wait for VirtualDubMod to preview the whole movie).
2. Also, maybe a preview of the subtitles (though this might be hard), or maybe just the languages/description of the subtitles. Sometimes the forced English subs gets stored as another subtitle with only forced subs instead of having everything in the same sub file and just ticking "forced subs". It would thus be great if you could do something about this so that we don't have to use an external program to check that.
Thanks
Milamber

Milamber-Hello and welcome to the forum.
About the subs-if you set it up for subs, and then run the Preview, you'll get the subs you selected. If they are the wrong subs, then go back and try again with a different set of subs. The Preview is slow in setting up only the first time. After that it's real fast. That doesn't seem to be exactly what you asked for, but it should help to solve your problem. Since you know already that sometimes the forced subs aren't part of the main subtitle stream, then you also know already that sometimes you have to look for forced subs with the forced subs option turned off.

NEWLY EXCUSE ME FOR MY PREVIOUS EXCEDED & OFFENSIVE WORDS.I think your program is very useful (better than Dr. DivX), but I think VOB's input is very limited option. There are a lot of people that haves non MPEG-4 AVI's like M-JPEG AVI's from DV camcorders,MPG and another filetypes Dr. DivX recognizes but Auto GK doesn't and actually there are no programs that automatically resizes movie preserving quality like Auto GK does using XviD.Of course people can directly use VirtualDub but is very tedious work if you have a list of movies to be encoded and to be resized down at unknown factor (that Auto GK obtains) to preserve quality.

To all you guys asking to be able to input avi for reencoding because the existing avi won't play on your standalone because of Q-Pel, GMC, different Matrices, Packed Bitstream, external subs, or whatever reason:
len0x appreciates requests and suggestions. Many good suggestions by users have been implemented in the last few months. The main, but not only, purpose of AutoGK is to allow new users to make good quality backups of their own DVDs for playback on a computer or standalone simply and easily. If you have been following this thread, then you know that already. Now, maybe you have avis that you made in the past that you encoded with Q-Pel or GMC, or whatever, that you now wish to have play on your standalone. Fine, the suggestions have been heard by len0x and rejected. That's the end of it. It's not open for further discussion. You'll only get yourself into trouble by pursuing it.
But if, as I suspect, you've downloaded many, if not all, of these funky avis from the net, then you should also know by now that this forum does not support such things in any way, shape, or form, and pursuing the matter could conceivably get you into even more trouble here. And if you haven't read of our stand on this issue, then I point you to Rule 6 of the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm). And to make it even more clear, please read this Announcement (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?s=&forumid=6). You've all been real careful so far in how you've worded the requests, which is good.
And as you all know, you can reencode an .avi through GKnot, or directly in VDubMod. Or you can convert them to SVCD with DVD2SVCD (the AVI portion of it). I can't speak for len0x, but I've been getting a bit irritated myself with these repeated requests. Problems and bugs have been and are being addressed, and many new features have been added. Maybe many of the AutoGK features will find their way into GKnot in the future. But you simply have to respect the developer's goals as far as what AutoGK is intended to do, and what he's willing to add to it.

1 - I don't want to convert avi's from the net. I have a lot of old DivX 3.11 movies splitted on 2 CD's previously converted by me using FlaskMPEG that I want to recompress to XviD. I have too M-JPEG files from DV camcorder of my voyages obviously not downloaded from the net.
2 - If len0x really heard and rejected the suggestion then I will write and post (on another site, because I'm feel rejected on this) my own program because there are more programmers on the world (like me) capable to do it.
3 - If you are irritated for my requests...I think my requests are equally respectable to another requests.
I know one of my previous post sounded dangerous and I have said I'm sorry many times but... I get offensive words from you. I think this isn't the way.

Hi starwave-
OK, I hear you. I forgot about DivX 3.11. I have quite a few of those from the old days myself that won't play on my standalone. But I wouldn't reencode them, because of the lower quality that would result. And if I did want to, it's easily enough done through GKnot or in VDubMod. While not everyone has this option, I can send them from a computer close to the TV by using the video out on the graphics card.
I think len0x mentioned, though, that he has plans eventually to include digital video in the supported inputs to AutoGK.
If you want to pursue your own project, then I believe the GKnot code is available as a starting point. But if you're a skilled programmer, I don't believe that you'll find a more willing and experienced group of beta testers (and suggestion givers :)) than you have on this site. So I would encourage you to stick around.

Hi,
@len0x: I was thinking about buying a standalone Kiss Divx player which AFAIK supports external subtitles, but not subtitles compressed with WinRAR. Would it be possible to have an option for not compressing the external subtitles?
Another small request: 1/4 DVD and 1/3 DVD as options in the output size combobox.
Keep up the good work - AutoGK is a really excellent program :D

After a couple of years manually encoding my DVD, i'm finally getting tired of it, and now going with automated tools. First try with AutoGK this morning, took 3h45 to do a 2 hours movie. And i must admit i'm quite impressed with the result, and for sure, im not going back to the "old way" :p except maybe for anime.
I've read the FAQ first and scroll through a couple of pages of this looooong thread without answer to my question:
I'm just wondering why the audio is now 32kHz? Is it a standalone divx player issue? Should there be an option to let us select desired kHz?

This post is perfectly igornable if you're tired of hearing about my red/green IVTC problems. :)
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I encountered the odd red/green ghosting in an AVS script that didn't use kerneldeint at all.
AVS:
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\AutoGK\filters\mpeg2dec3dg.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\AutoGK\filters\autocrop.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\AutoGK\filters\decomb.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\AutoGK\filters\undot.dll")
function getOrder(clip c) {
order = GetParity(c) ? 1 : 0
return order }
movie = mpeg2source("C:\Rips\HELEN_OF_TROY\VIDEO_TS\gk_tmp\test.d2v")
cropclip = autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=0,threshold=35)
c_width = width(cropclip)
c_height = round(height(cropclip) / 1.21518987341772)
input_par = float(c_width)/float(c_height)
fixed_aspect = input_par > 1.4 ? 1.21518987341772 : 1.18518518518519
c_height = round(height(cropclip) / fixed_aspect)
input_par = float(c_width)/float(c_height)
out_width = 704
out_height = round(float(out_width) / input_par)
hmod = out_height - (floor(out_height / 16 ) * 16)
out_height = (hmod > 4) ? (out_height + (16 - hmod)) : (out_height - hmod)
new_aspect = (float(out_width) / float(out_height)) / fixed_aspect
autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=new_aspect,threshold=35)
Telecide(order=getOrder(movie),guide=1,post=2).Decimate(mode=0)
Undot()
LanczosResize(out_width,out_height)
Screenshot:
http://home.columbus.rr.com/carraway6/helenoftroy01.jpg
So, ok. But I did some more playing around by doing this:
I switched both instances of...
cropclip = autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=0,threshold=35)
autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=new_aspect,threshold=35)
...to this...
cropclip = autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=8,hmultof=8,samples=10,aspect=0,threshold=35)
autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=8,hmultof=8,samples=10,aspect=new_aspect,threshold=35)
And that fixed it:
http://home.columbus.rr.com/carraway6/helenoftroy02.jpg
Help?
EDIT: Turns out I only needed to change the second instance of autocrop (the 23rd line in the AVS) to a multiple of 8, the first instance ("cropclip") could stay a multiple of 4. This however doesn't change the fact that I have basically no idea what I'm doing.

My information about the source code for GKnot being available is based on TheWEF's comments in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50070&highlight=source+code). And later on I saw it available for download. So I went to the link provided (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot/), and I think it's that CVS stuff at the bottom. But you'd know more about that than I.
I don't think the AutoGK source code is or will be available, but you'd have to speak to len0x about that.

A very good implementation would be the option to set, like in GK, the default codec options to use for every encode, so I'll just have to modify them once...
One question: what kind of normalization options does AUTOGK use when calling besweet?

Well the first autocrop doesn't do anything to the video, so that's understandable. Muliplier of 8 helped you're saying? Hm... Can you try adding Limiter(0,255,0,255) after second autocrop to see if that fixes anything ?

maximum of what I can do for non-auto mode at some point is make ".credits" file containing frame number, which you have to put in input dir.

Limiter after decimate doesn't work either. Or after Undot() or LanczosResize(), and my computer beeps at me if I try and put it before the second autocrop. :)
As for uploading lots of data, I could probably do that. But it may have to wait until tonight (12 hours from now or so), once I'm back at home and on my desktop computer w/ all my data.

But rar-compressed .sub files are not supported :( which is why I requested an option to disable compression.

i still get (ive not set AUTOGK to win98 compatibility mode) autogk crashes when start up and it says error 216 at 004035D6 this happens occasionally with all versions ive tested. so i close autogk when this error comes up and restart it and most of the time it works on the third attempt or so. once AUTOGK is open it works fine ie it lauches VDUB etc and use HT properly etc etc.
but this error probably has something to do with HT.

Is there any chance this could support regular MPEG files also? I use a Hauppauge PVR 250 to record television in a DVD stream (or something very similar to it). I don't have anything that is great for reencoding those files right now and I really like this for backing up my DVDs. Thanks for anything you can do.

i still get (ive not set AUTOGK to win98 compatibility mode) autogk crashes when start up and it says error 216 at 004035D6 this happens occasionally with all versions ive tested. so i close autogk when this error comes up and restart it and most of the time it works on the third attempt or so. once AUTOGK is open it works fine ie it lauches VDUB etc and use HT properly etc etc.
but this error probably has something to do with HT.

Some BIOS's does have the option to disable the HT technologie. Do you get the error when you have done that? Beacuse then your for 100% shure it's HT ;)

For me now it works without compatibility mode.

Sure, i was using FU for some times, and they have the option wich is really great. I dont really mind doing some manual stuff in a way to get credits at low bitrate.
Would be great! :p Thanks!

Convert that idx/sub (binary format) into .srt or .sub (microDVD) with VobSub or SubRip (directly from the vob). It's better to have selectable subtitles.
Edit:
@ len0x, is correct the file sizes calculated by you in the "1/3, 1/4, 1/5 and 1/6 of DVDR as predefined sizes" ?
Ex: 1/6DVDR (802MB) is 802*6=4812MB ??
I'm lost in that MB, Kb, KB, bytes stuff. :(

Sorry for appearing stupid, but can someone please explain what len0x means by:
'- added support for ".ivtc" control file in input dir to force normal IVTC on hybrid-detected material'
I tried creating a dummy file with the same name as the ***.ifo file but giving it a .ivtc extension instead, that didn't do anything - can anyone provide the details on how to activate this feature please?
thanks,
