It seems to me that 128kb stereo is composed of 2 separate 64kb segments totalling 128kb. With mono, we get only one 64kb channel, and it seems that we would get only half the quality.

I have a suggestion.

Can you add in the video info field the duration of the film so a person can choose best advanced settings according to it?

Some problems with sound shift ...

have some dvd files ... the worst :
"VTS_01_1 AC3 T01 3_2ch 384Kbps DELAY 2887406ms.ac3"

second is not so bad - only .5-1 sec sound shift at beginning, but about 4-5 sec at the end ... (fps sync ??)
"VTS_01_4 AC3 T01 2_0ch 128Kbps DELAY -136ms.ac3"

Its been asked so many times that I should put in the FAQ - its impossible as AutoGK doesn't parse input files before job is started.

You should try manually different versions of DGIndex and report results in DGIndex forum where Neuron2 might be able to solve this.

Thanx. But may be you can made some feature as manual sound time correcting shift (in case of very big shift ?) ??? And may be something like preview with sound ...

Preview with sound its not possible so you can't estimate how much the sound is off before you start encoding and therefore option for delay is not needed - you just remux AVI in VDubMod manually afterwards.

My source resolution is 704x480 for some reson i can't get autogk to output the right AR. I tried using the manual AR at 1:1 to get the correct resolution but as you can see it gives an output file which is 704x528.
I just wanted to let you know so you would be able to fix it and ask if there is a workaround.
thansk alot

This is due to 4:3 auto-detection (i.e. if source is considered close to 4:3 its forced to match that). I'm thinking about removing this feature at all... (especially now when we have AVI input). But this will probably result in non 4:3 AR in most of cases.

What about force 4:3 AR hidden option, instead of skipping it.:)

Hi!

Len0x, this is best tool I have used.

Have little suggestions :)

very need logo over movie (little bmp or jpg picture right bottom on screen - for example)

now AutoGk understand for input, AVI files - that's COOL !!!, possible added support for AVS scripts ?

sometimes need insert little clip before big movie,
after encoding do this very difficult (framerate and etc) - this is will be nice feature..

Good luck.
P.S. You are doing big job.
P.S.S. Sorry for my english.

Size problem with the lastest stable release (I've gone through the FAQ and my whole XP system is just clean-installed. XVID is the only codec I've ever installed for the new system.)

The target size is 700MB. But it turned out the result size is 703 MB (737,255,050 bytes). Only 3MB difference, is it normal?

[3/29/2005 8:23:14 AM] Audio size: 111,898,152 bytes (106.71 Mb)
[3/29/2005 8:23:14 AM] Overhead: 6,640,768 bytes (6.33 Mb)
[3/29/2005 8:23:15 AM] Subtitles size: 1,033,866 bytes (0.99 Mb)
[3/29/2005 8:23:15 AM] Video size: 614,430,414 bytes (585.97 Mb)

By the way, before reinstallation, I compressed another DVD and the result size is 716MB (and I'm pretty sure the codec wasn't messed up at that moment).

Thank you very much.

I made a xvid rip of a special feature last night. It is 4:3. I noticed that AutoGk has cut off some of the image, on the right side. Also, the image is not centered. Here is a 30 second clip of the avi: Example_avi (http://s48.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3T23N6DB61HI23G4C122RXRUKO) .
Now, compare it with these two captures of the original VOB from Windvd. http://img165.exs.cx/img165/6131/cap1038sv.th.jpg (http://img165.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img165&image=cap1038sv.jpg)

Here is an image where you can really see what I am talking about :

Wow, just encoded an episode from a DVD and the quality was just horrible!
48 minutes 202mB
i set it at 175mB in AutoGK too, and it came up to 202mB.
and from that, you can tell my expectations aren't high, but i usually get viewable quality from 150mB for a 45min clip.

any help? or ill just have to do the manual way.

try withou fixed resize and automatic audio choice
Interlaced and 4/3 material need more bitrate

I've tried Auto-resize + auto-audio,
audio came out fine, except the resize, was horrendous! it came out to be a tiny little box. lol

didnt see any options for interlace.
4/3 material? im thinking thats the aspect ratio.. but i usually get fine quality from other releases 45min clips 150~190mB sizes.

What did expect at this compressibility(8%!!!)? A miracle?
Usual encode of 45min at 512x384 takes upto 350Mb to archieve good quality(on a relatively clean source). You however trying to get 50% more resolution into half size of that for clearly hard compressible source.

Check your Internet settings.
Read the FAQ's @ AutoGk Website, first lines maybe describe your problem.
Misconfigured Firewalls sometimes lead to this behaviour or WinXP SP2 :D

Thanks to everyone, but every page at the AGK site is unreachable for me: every address I try to reach, I get only a blank page. I don't have SP2. Cookies are partially enabled, but I never met this situation at other sites. I've used two browsers (IE6 and K-Meleon) with the same result.

Read this: www.pcsupport.dk/software/htmlprotector.html
Just reset all your IE settings to defaults.
If you messed up the host file, clean it.
If your ISP is doing some filtering, well I don't know...

I find certain bitrates for CBR encoding in LAME problematic (for instance 240kbps won't work). Try different bitrate or VBR.

By the way, before reinstallation, I compressed another DVD and the result size is 716MB (and I'm pretty sure the codec wasn't messed up at that moment).

Fluctuations of 2-3Mb can happen from time to time, but 16Mb oversize should not have happened. If you come across that again please post your log file.

Another problem with sound ..

Desc.:
I have DVD files on my HDD,
when I start DVD by .ifo - DVD plays normally :
firstly it shows me small intro _without_sound_ (intro1)
then I chose (maybe) options and start video - video starts _without_any_intro_ and with sound - all work perfectly.

when i trying to backup my DVD in file mode - i chose VTS_01_0.VOB and program say that there are no any audio within (!!! no audio track).

When I trying to view VTS_01_0.VOB (not IFO) by Media Player Classic - all plays ok, but firstly it shows me intro_without_sound and then plays movie.

second run worked ok .. I suspect it was thte fact that some programs need to be run once to establish their credentials? However the new file is a bit suspect eg the width and height see below

ALL i really want to do is to get it below 2.0gb so it will play on my standalone

This was from an original encode using 75% quality mode( thumbs down for quality encoding)
The video only (original file) comes to 1.9gb (1,923,034kb) reported as 1.83gb under windoze. And where do those extra spooky frames come from?

First, I have a sticky specifically for AVI input support in this very forum where all the problem about this new mode should be reported. Second, compressibility of the source can be changed significally by playback filters (i.e. if you're using FILM option of DivX media filter for instance). To make sure it stays the same you have to disable any PP in dshow filter decoding the video. Please reply in the other thread if you have any followup to this.

P.S. You should not be concered about frame difference - that is fixed for 2.02.

A small bug in the log window of v.2.02...
Last night, i did a 2-job encode(Oceans 12, Oldboy)...
Here is the log of the first job...

[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] AutoGK 2.02b

[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Input dir: D:\OCEANS_TWELVE\VIDEO_TS
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Output file: D:\DivX\Ocean 12\Ocean 12.avi
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Output codec: XviD
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Audio: Korean AC3 2ch
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Subtitles: none
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Format: .AVI
[7/4/2005 1:38:16 ðì] Target quality: 75%

The resulted .avi has the right audio track(English AC3 6ch)...
The audio track wrongfully mentioned in the logs, is from the second job...

also ... in features there is (as I understood) - auto name func. - by directory name ... I can't use this ... may be cause all of my files lays on "<name>\VIDEO_TS\vts_01_x.vob" ??

I have <name>\VIDEO_TS\*.vob files.
In files mode I'm trying to set output to <name>.avi - as I expect this name automatically by autogk, but it get me only vts_01_1.avi ...

Somewhere - i can't remeber (i haven't now doc on autogk)- i read, that autogk has autorename function ... May be I not fully understand the feature and it's another function ???

len0x
8th April 2005, 13:54
vts_01_1.avi will contain video from ALL the vobs. AutoGK doesn't auto-rename anything.

nechto
8th April 2005, 14:09
Ok. My fault.

Also - It seems, when vob's have first chapter without audio (if them simply copied by windows copy function - far, totalcmd, explorer) autogk can't see audio at all.
My Solution - to grab vobs by dvddecrypter without first chapter (this case of first chapter is Warning or something like this - not part of film). Also dvddecrypter can grab from virtual devices ...

Please give it a stress test as bugs are expected in audio/subtitle parts. XviD 1.1 is finally recommended to use with it (in fact it turned to use it along with DXN HT profiles in ESS compatibility mode).

What are the settings of Xvid 1.1, in AutoGK??
Is any of the new features enabled by default??

I'm having a strange problem - when I select an avi file for input I immediately get the error:

Auto Gordian Knot

Cannot open file "C:\DOCUME~1\NiXe\LOCALS~1\Temp\agk.tbl". The system cannot find the file specified.

I have tried re-installing autoAG (from latest stable) without any luck. Error happens with both 2.02 and 2.05 running on WinXp pro.

Any ideas?

The same as previously apart from VHQ for bframes and trellis are enabled now (lets see how it'll do).
