@lennox,
thx for the queue, it is very usefull! - made a wish come up, though.. could you implement a button to save the queue? i had my pc crashing with 3 movies queued and they were of course gone. also i like to set up things and go to bed and let them process while i am at work. i just don't have any time in the morning, so a saved project would be very nice.

thanks for the info. good to know! will have to implement check for that.
@menaceboy it's exact problem you having, btw.

the way it's done now - its imposible to do that in a simple way, so I wouldn't count on this feature for a while.

It's not a Besweet problem, I think. It seems that AutoGK uses alt-preset, am I right? Well, alt-preset xxx can't go under 80 kbps, simply because it doesn't exist any alt-preset 64 or lower. alt-preset 80 is the lowest abr alt-preset.
It should be the same with cbr, i.e. alt-preset cbr 64 doesn't work.
@Len0x: you could simply switch to a simple "-h -b64"...

Hello !
Sorry if it was asked before, but what about multi(external)subtitles support ?

Is there any possible way to access the codec controls? Pretty, pretty, pretty please could you add this? Even if it's a hidden feature by pressing F5 or something. I am doing movies like Saving Private Ryan and Lord of the Rings on one 870MB CD and am working with extremely low bitrates. For these kinds of movies I would like to run the quality settings at slowest to achieve the best results. I (and I'm sure others) would greatly appreciate this little bonus feature.

63 pages are too much for any newcomer to read.
@len0x, should a FAQ be collected on why some features are not going to be there and related stuff? I volunteer BTW if you're interested.

This question is perhaps already asked and answered, but I used the search and couldn't find what I was looking for.
1) regarding the new queue feature in latest release of AutoGK. Is there any way to edit the queue items. I tried yesterday at home without success. When I had added all my encoding items I was just about to press start when I realized I had forgot to check the external subtitle box. I thought double-clicking on a queue-item would bring up the job-settings, but it didn't.
2) NEWBIE QUESTION: What codec settings do AutoGK use? How are they transferred from AutoGK to VDubMod?
3) If I change any settings in the codec configuration dialog (from VdubMod for example) will that affect the AutoGK settings, or will my changes be overruled by AutoGK?
Just trying to get some understanding about what really happens when I use AutoGK. I like the application and it's automatic way of handling things, but beeing an engineer I always crave to know how things really work.
Thanks again len0x for making this app!

I'm back from vacation and I can report that the 0.86 build fixed the Winrar issue .. Winrar is now correctly detected.
However the new VDubMod introduced in 0.88 crashes on my PC. The one in 0.86 did not.
I have 0.89b now and it's the same thing.
I doublechecked and VDubMod crashed again.
I also tried without the upgraded Lame_enc.dll I normally use ( 3.95.1 ) and the same thing happened again.
BTW I recommend updating the lame_enc.dll - The interface is unchanged so it works just like the old one, only with slightly better speed and quality.

i'm backing up bridge over the river kwai.
Viewing the disk in dvddecrypter the film is divided into two program groups. Each of about 1.5 hours each. Each program group is half the movie.
I've never seen a dvd like this before. Normally you get one pcg and that is the whole movie. At the moment I have to rip two groups of VOBs in two subdirectorys and encode each one in turn, then join them somehow.
Is this normal ? is there a way of joining the two groups of vobs together in one directory before running the whole lot through autoGK in one go.

I doublechecked and VDubMod crashed again.
Beware of the new Lame encode. After using the ''Lame'' for years, I
must say, this release crashed badly on one of my Win98 Machines, in different applications. Haven't had time to check it on my WinXP
Machine. The VirtualDubmod used in AutoGK works perfectly on my XP
machine, so I guess something else is bothering yours.
Check your Avisynth Installation, as example.Mostly when I had Problems with encoding, a falsy Avisynth Setup was the trigger.

Warning: Nothing to output bframe decoder lag??
hi you guys it's me again Patricia,
thanks for your help, I managed to encode my movie with the stable version of autoGK with the subtitle! But when I wanted to use VirtualDub or even Virtualdubmod on the screen in very big letters I can read the message Warning: Nothing to output bframe decoder lag
my video has been encoded with the XVID codec.
I don't know what the warning means
can you help??
kisses

thank you for your fast answer len0x :)
So you mean it is normal, do you have this message too when you encoded the movie then?
sorry I am just curious and I need to know lol

I had exactly the same problem, logs are gone now, but it was a 100mb trailer, set to custom file size of 50mb, xvid, and 64kb vbr mp3 audio, the "EXCEPTION: Audio and overhead size is more than target video size!" error message appeared; I then tried to set the encode file size to 100 mb, no difference. Also tried 64kb CBR mp3. Same deal. But when I switched to 96kb vbr mp3, (and back to the 50mb target size), everything worked fine, no errors. I think maybe there's something wrong with the 64kb mp3 parameters?

"An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'xvid'..."
This time I tried uninstallinng everything that had to do with AutoGK and then I installed the stable 0.8 and then updated it to 0.89b.
I then proceeded to encode the same movie that crashed on me before , making sure that all previously created aGK files had been deleted and only the DVD files remained.
Still crashed on me.

@lenox,
About the percent qualiy value, before the 0.88, I can enter the value
by keyboard. But after that I can only use mouse to click the up/down
arrow button to increase/decrease the value. But it's ok anyway. :)
How about providing the AutoGK (.exe) only, without Avisynth, BeSweet,
and VirtualDub? Thank you.

I tested again , this time reinstalling 0.8 and the 0.89b choosing not to update VDubMod when the installer asked.
Processed the same movie , with the same setting.
It resulted in a perfect flawless encode - No crash.
I'm convinced - The new build of VDubMod is to blame for the crashes on my system.
@len0x : Please don't include that specific updated build of VDubMod in future releases.

I have the very same problem as CeeJay.dk and his solution works also for me. It looks as if VDubMod is the problem of the crash.

Just at thought: Is your machine equipped with a Pentium 4 processor?
Maybe disabling Hypertreading will get the VirtualdubMod, Lenox is using in AutoGK 0.89, to work.
On my Athlon machine everything works seamless.
Or just change the VirtualdubMod.exe to Win98 compatibilty Mode for
experimenting. And please tell us if it works.
CeeJay.dk
23rd January 2004, 19:19
I also have an Athlon machine and everything works seamless .. With the 1.5.4.1 release of VDubMod ;)
I'll just copy/paste my sig from Nforceshq.com forums :
-
Abit NF7-S v2.00 - Bios 2.2 (TicTac's BetaKing)
AMD Barton 2500+ @ 2315 Mhz ( 220 x 10.5 @ 1.65v )
Zalman CNPS7000 AlCu (custom mounting)
512MB Crucial DDR3200 ram ( 11 - 3 - 2 - 2.5 )
Club3D Radeon 9700 (With Zalman Heatpipe)
-
It's a very nice and very silent system :)
And it's hardly a problem with the overclock - It's been running this fast for over 6 months (totally stable) and I like to torture the CPU with Folding@Home among other things.
I might try changing the VirtualdubMod.exe to Win98 compatibilty Mode later , but a user shouldn't have to change compatibilty modes to get it to work.

Allright, CeeJay. It was just a guess to bring some light to this odd
behaviour.
After some testing with the VdubMod Version Lenox prefers, it crashed
too on my machine, using Gknot. So I agree that there's something in-
combatible with this version. In AutoGk still no problems....

When I already have a VIDEO_TS directory on my hard drive there doesn't seem to be a way to use that as a source for DVD Decrypter to do an IFO extraction.
An obvious workaround is to burn the VIDEO_TS directory to a DVD first. The process then works fine, but this step seems really pointless.
Is there an alternate tool to DVD Decrypter that can actually handle a source on the hard drive and still let me select specific tracks? Or perhaps a better way to do all of this?
Thanks--Auto GK is great one-stop shopping for DVD->AVI encodes, except for this one frustration.

Looking at the link that wertert posted earlier I found this page :
http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/createifo.html
It might work - Try it.
I was also thinking that working with ripped DVD's might be easier if some kind soul would create a inputplugin for daemon-tools allowing it to take different kinds of DVD-fileformats and make it look as a real DVD to the PC.
Maybe I should suggest this to VeNoM386 - He might listen more if it's suggested by one on the betatestingteam.
I know he's busy with the coreprogram though , but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I just wanted to say a big THANKS to Lenox for making Auto Gordian Knot.I had tried to use Gordian Knot, but i guess its name isn't a coincidence,is it? It is beyond the patience and capabilities of the average user like me.I saw the guide in doom9 forum, well most people don't want to read a manual for flying a plane just to make a DVD backup nor have the time to do so and change (4?) programmes to make a DivX.I only hope to see support for Xvid 1 soon. For the rest Auto Gordian Knot has worked flawlessly on my PC .
Normal people want ONE programme to backup their DVDs ,to be "set and forget".I mean the "normal" Gordian Knot requires constant attention.People don't have so much time available to dedicate to a single process. The idea of Auto GK was GREAT and i think this is the way to go.Xmpeg,Dr DivX,Vidomi have gone this way and it is what the average user wants.I LOVE AutoGK,has superior quality and the easiest settings.Oh and also i was pleasantly surprised from the accuracy in CD splitting with AutoGK :) Auto GK users will be multiplying very soon.A negative thing on the diffusion of Auto GK is ...it's name...Because those who have tried "normal" Gordian Knot, don't want to hear it again.Myself had downloaded normal GK,despaired, later i saw the Auto and didn't think to download it untill i had problems with other programmes and decided to give it a try.Maybe in the guides of the forum ,a reference should be put for AutoGK,because when someone reads the DivX/Xvid guide ,only sees the "normal" GK,so it's the first that tries and...runs away!LOL!In fact i m trying to convince some friends of mine to try AutoGK now, they were too scared from "normal" GK before, and as soon as i mentioned the name "GK" they were very reluctant to test Auto "GK" too.But i ll make a promotion campaign now :)
Anyway,Keep up the good work, and again a big THANKS from all the newbies or average users that can't dedicate much time over a PC to change many programmes in order to have a quality DVD backup.

2 random things....
1. found something that divx actually encodes better than xvid.. Cowboy Bebop, at 233mb an episode, there is quite a difference (or I'm messing something up in the settings :p ).
2. way back in the first 20 pages or so, someone asked about audio issues with Evangelion rips (first ep on each dvd way out of sync)... the only way I've been able to fix it, is to use the original Gordian Knot to make these eps, and set the audio delay to roughly -500ms to -680ms, it won't be perfect, but fairly close, with a bit of tweaking you should be able to get it right.
and my n00bish question of the day... are Len0x and Koepi the same person? they both seem as intelligent as the other

I know it's Lenox!i just wanted to thank him for making the Auto version of GK,because for many ( i think the majority) of users, the "normal" GK is unusable...I don't mean any offence,i just say the simple facts.I m no PC novice,in some sectors i am above average, still i can't stand the normal "GK",while the Auto one is wonderful.Actually i would have prefered an option for manual configuration of the DivX/Xvid codec in Auto GK,but at the end,the results as i saw are excellent,so i m happy as is :)

If I was Koepi as well, then support of XviD 1.0 was already in AutoGK ;)

I thought double-clicking on a queue-item would bring up the job-settings, but it didn't.
It's gonna be tricky but not impossible (as for instance for saving queue). Ths feature will probably come after 1.0 release since its not that important because setting up one more job takes just 10-15 sec :)

that's rather advanced topic. They are transfered via scrips, so you can't change them (they're getting overwritten everytime vdubmod is started, so that nobody can screw AutoGK, even if they wanted to :) )

Well the reason is that i've implemented min quality of 10%, so now you're unable to set anything below that (the control itsefl checks the value after each key press...). So if you just delete one digit at a time it should work.

For these kinds of movies I would like to run the quality settings at slowest to achieve the best results. I (and I'm sure others) would greatly appreciate this little bonus feature.
There is a reason why I don't use slower/slowest modes. They simply don't produce better quality if no preprocessing/PSY is used (accoring to my tests, in fact I can see lots of worse things happening when using them). And since I'm the judge of quality of AutoGK output I decided not to bother with those slow modes (and newbies will not notice the difference anyway in case it's producing better results, which I doubt).

Great Tool: Ive done ALL my DS9 on them about 190 eps and soo much quicker for episodes a godsend really a few requests which i think would be great
1) Credit compression :D yeah i know i asked before not the end of the world tho so i want lenox to think im ungratefull.
2) Noise filters
Not detailed settings and the what not just in the advanced tab can u put like GKnot light denoising medium and heavy or better they could be chosen automatically if not compressible enough and we are limiting res and size. (eg. 45 min episodes of star trek on 175 mb 512X384 ABR 128 mp3 XVID)
thats it i think it would be perfect after this
although its pretty damn good now to be fair
as a question
what features have u planned on trying to implement in AUTOGK from now till 1.0 release if you dont mind me asking or are all the things from now till 1.0 bug fixes (which they arent many except with vdubmod!)
thanks again for a fantastic tool

I learned that AviSynth work in the background when VDubMod is running (Yep .. this newbie is learning) and did a test with the new VDubMod and without the new AviSynth when another encode failed (with the old VDubMod and the new AviSynth) and it worked !
So I'm no longer thinking that the new VDubMod is to blame .. it might provoke some errors in AviSynth , but it is not to blame.
The new AviSynth is.
Well .. at least it is one of them.

at 544res, 233mb, cbr mp3, divx was just above 45%, xvid was mid 30's - still looked good for the divx, seems odd since everything else I've done with xvid has been alot better. also, xvid had more fuzzy edges on borders of a face, or object (then again, there is alot of movement in most eps).
can you remind me of the actual problem? (I hope you do use latest DVDDecrypter and latest AutoGK, right?)
but of course I do, I try the beta as soon as you put it up :) the post in question is found here... http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266&perpage=20&highlight=evangelion&pagenumber=50 (i read through all previous pages to find it  ) author is BKAM (6th from bottom).
well, I think this is the right post, it seems to occur only with the first episode from each dvd, setting audio delay to roughly -500ms to -680ms fixes the issue somewhat... I can't think of why it would do this

I'd rather leave this completely to the end user as may ppl will want to use specific filters for that and there will lots of argueing about them. When config file is implemented you'll just put your favourite filter in and it'll be accounted already during comp test (it will be quite tricky to predict automatically how comp test value is changed if a filter is applied).

Second audio support is there (but it's hidden).
Also it's bundled with brand new avisynth 2.5.4, so please test crashes against it (I'd rather keep new avisynth and old VDubMod if possible).
