did a dozen rips while I was away today (I love the queue feature :D ), looks great, no issues yet.
one question.. it says 2nd audio can be set to a diferent format if not on Auto mode... I selected 2 audio streams (ctrl+F10), seems to both be set as AC3 (which I want to keep), yet when I ran the job, 2nd stream was converted as VBR-MP3... did I miss something?

Hey LENOX, first let me use this opportunity to thank you for the great software- because of people like you world is a better place!
You probably have too many suggestions to consider but listen to this: today DVDRW drives are very cheap and DVDR media even cheaper then CDR (per MB) so needless to say it is the matter of time before everybody will switch to dvdr (most people I know already did ac it is much more efficient!). So why not put in the predefined size say 1/5, ¼, 1/3, ½ of a typical dvdr size. I record a six non ac3 or three AC3 movies on a single DVDR and around 400 megs are not used as all the movies are around 700 megs.
Thank you, for reading!
Cheers,
Art
P.S. anyone know what happened with http://www.sharereactor.com ?????

I was thinking about that since I'm using DVDRs as well...
(although there is a 2GB limit on file size on DVD, so 1/2 of DVDR is not an option)

Which part of encoding process are you referring to ? (demuxing, audio encoding, video encoding) Coz I know that no matter what I set in priority of demuxing/audio processing (actually I'm starting processes as IDLE ones) DVD2AVI/BeSweet ignore that. In VDubMod though you can set the default priority in settings and every time it's gonna be started with that priority.
I see no diff to normal GK though...

Well, it's a judgement call. my thoughts behind it were: if you don't really care about encoding time, then use XviD which produces better quality but slower. I do know that 3 passes can do a little bit better job, but not enough to justify the whole pass...

It definitely would. :)

That's actually not completely true as my rip of LotR Two Towers SSE is 3.79GB (or 4,071,655,424 bytes) and it is sitting nicely on my dvd as one file [played in its entirity on different computers and they are all happy with it].
It has to be said that when I burn my dvds I burn all of them in UDF system only (i.e. no iso or udf/iso).

what I actually meant is playback on standalones (where only ISO has to be used I guess), not computers.

Bad deinterlacer job (first time I see that with KernelDeInt). Tried TomsMoComp and FieldDeinterlace - no problems. Then found out that reducing threshold for KernelDeInt to 5 fixes the problem, but nothing in AutoGK can be done to solve this atm.
I just wanted to add that I've run across this problem too, in about 75% of the rips I've done from television series DVD's (Will & Grace and Sports Night, specifically). The problem doesn't just manifest itself when switching from one shot to another, it also causes a kind of green/red ghosting in scenes with movement (only happens in maybe 1/5th of the frames though, it's not a constant ghosting). I realize this isn't specifically an AutoGK bug, but I just wanted to let you know that his wasn't an isolated problem, and the KernelDeInt bug has had an effect on the majority of my rips thus far.
Great, wondeful, fantastic program, btw. :)
EDIT: For kicks, I've included a snap shot since my powers of description aren't good. Needless to say, source is left, encoded is right.

@len0x:
Since my powers of description are challenged just like Carraway's, I just wanted to note that the screenshot he posted above is exactly the same as what I was experiencing with the Red Violin, that I've been discussing with you in the ivtc thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=459801

when autoGK launching any soft: DVD2AVI/BeSweet, VDubMod - all is slowing down :)

I think there should be a lot users interested in encoding DV into DivX format. So it will be great (and should be quite simple) if you can make your software shpport AVI->DivX AVI.

Crap! Where did you get that info from? Is that with all standalones, and is that going to be the standard from now on? I have been making encodes >2GB for awhile now:angry:

QNX,
Assuming you are using xvid. When encoding, select the vdubmod 'stats' window and set the encoding priority to 'idle'. This should lower the encoding priority and ease up on your other processes. You will need to repeat this for the second pass.
Not sure how you do this in divx as I don't use it.

len0x,
I am using the latest beta and the latest xvid. I tried to encode a trilogy that I just bought, and I happened to be watching the file right as the encode was almost done and the size was something like 861 megs. This is really weird because I set it to 1 cd 700 mb. Right after the AutoGK finished with that and started with the 2nd cd the file was resized to 477 megs, and obviously does not look very good. I will copy and paste the log file below.
Thanks

Hi QNX,
OK. DVD2avi and besweet, etc tend to be quite cpu intensive. I have a 1Ghz P3 and always get a hit on pc performance when these are running. So, what you describe is normal for me. I would have thought, though, that your p4 would be able to handle these OK? Not sure what advice I could offer for you.

Also, try checking if your drive is reasonable defragged.
And last, check for priorities in task manager. If not in lowest priority, set them to see if the system becomes more responsive.

@ QNX
On my machine all programs used by AutoGK are running at 100% CPU,
and NO significant slowdowns in normal use of the PC are noticed.
Sure, if trying to do some weird stuff like Image Rendering at the same time will give some hickups.
But Internetbrowsing or a little Worddocument are going on at reasonable speed.
Like a former writer suggested: Look if DMA Modus is enabled on all of your drives. And look twice!
Because on some machines even when DMA Modus is checked, the drives are still working in PIO Mode. That's because some BIOS don't recognize the mode.
Had problems on other machines (not my own).
How many CPU cycles do you get when there's nothing running at all?
Should be near zero on a properly setup XP machine.
Good Luck

I will copy and paste the log file below.
As someone already metioned on the previous page - this might happen if you didn't properly uninstall previous xvid. Try it and then reinstall new XviD and everything should be fine.

(Probably this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find it in this 80 pages post, sorry!)
AutoGK works fine with the included XviD version, but if I remove it and install the 1.0 RC 3 it cannot detect it and won't start (didn't install divx)... some hint?

I did it exactly as you described and ... guess what? it works. But i also have divx installed... so, maybe, thats the problem.

I just intalled divx 5.1.1, in now runs, but in the settings it doesn't allow me to choose xvid!

noone seems to have this problem. Do you have xvidcore.dll and xvidvfw.dll in the system directory ?

Uhm.... maybe a bad install or a corrupt xvid package?
What xvid version are you using and from who?

I will give it a try, but the uninstall is a pretty simple procedure, not sure how I could have screwed that up.

The files are both there, and I'm using Koepi's "Nao" Xvid 1.0 RC 3, the same available in the xvid forum...
Does autogk check for in the system folder or in a predetermined folder? My system32 folder is in L:\windows , not in C:\windows .
Anyway the codec works fine, I made rips using the standard gordian knot with no problem at all and virtual dub lists the xvid codec among the others...

@len0x: I just tried AutoGK 1.05 on some tv episodes.
I love it. The de-interlacing is just great. I tried it by myself with GK. After hours I thought I got the right settings, yeah right, for the first episode of the season, the second turnded out to be totally different...
Now I press two or three buttons and off we go. GREAT!!!
One little request:
All my episodes have different ratios 640x496, 640x464, 640x480.
I would prefer 640x480, I could cope with losing a few pixel on the borders to avoid an aspect error.
Would that be possible, to choose a fixed ratio, for AutoGK 1.xx?

Hi, I get the following error
"The function SetMode was called on a stream[?] that hasn't been previously initialized with SetSource" towards the end of some AutoGK encodes. The end result is a ripped movie not muxed and with a wrong size (but not wrong in an understandable way).
I seem to get this error when I encode a movie with 2 soundtracks and 1 subtitle stream, however I am not sure if the problem is related only to the mismatch of soundtracks to subtitles or to having two soundtracks [as I have only ripped so far 2 soundtracks 1 subtitle stream or 1 soundtrack 1 subtitle stream].
If you want the log [although I doubt it is of particular use] here it is:

Well, from what I see you selected Auto mode for audio, right?
It suppose to have mp3 soundtrack for second audio. And SetSource set it right - 202 type, but actualy file is AC3 - that's why it cannot be muxed in properly... weird, I'll have a look.

Yeah I set it to auto, and you are right the ac3 was never converted to mp3 (in my audio setting the bitrate is set on 160).

Do you happen to have a computer with two processors running winxp?
As if that is the case you will see that VirtualDub when launched by AGK sets its affinity to only one of your processors [usually cpu 0] and not to both [while VirtualDub launched by GK is nice and sets itself to use both].
By doing so, not only it encodes at a slower speed [about half], but at times [often] it also make the computer hang. The solution is to set VirtualDub affinity to either both processor or processor 1 as it seems that WinXP loads cpu 0 with the gui software and it is not able to shift the workload to cpu 1 nor to reduce the amount of cpu 0 used by virtualdub.
That's why I asked [well mainly for the performance improvement] if there is a why to get AGK to act like GK with respect to VirtualDub affinity but I never got any feedback on it.

Please include AVI input in addition to VOB's input on Auto GK. I have tried to convert a list of QPel DivX files into 2-passes XviD for better quality and compatibility for my Kiss DP-450 DivX Player. Dr. DivX can do it but it works only with DivX codec (I prefer XviD) and quality is lower than Auto GK.
People says len0x don't want to implement AVI input (I don't know why, because implementation is very easy and very useful too).
If len0x don't want to implement it perhaps can offer Delphi sources to other programmers to implement it.

do something pogaluysta ;)
also i don't understand why AutoGK don't like HT? :(

@rmagere
AUTOGK 1.05 beta here sets vdub to use both processors 3.2C HT enabled
it all depends whether u followed the guide and made the autogk.exe and/or the virtualdub.exe in win98 compatibility mode
I did not make any changes ie they are running in XP mode
and occassionally autogk does not start up and i get an error message but most of the time it works well (starts up correctly) and this way vdub and all apps are set to affinity cpu 0 and 1. and vdub with xvid uses 80-94% processor on my machine
so i think the solution is NOT do the ht fix(or suggestion as mentioned in the guide)
@lenox
Ive just done my first XVID 1.0 RC3 encode and i notice after AUTOGK starts encoding i checked the settings and AUTOGK does not use Turbo mode
not meaning to be offensive but why is this? would not enabling turbo mode in the codec in autogk as its default speed things up considerably at least in the second pass??
if there is a good reason for turbo mode to not be enabled then fair dos i would just like to know what it is as im new to xvid 1.0 and dont understand all the options yet.
JEREMY
PS also besweet only ever uses 50% processor on my ht 3.2 even if it is set to affinity cpu 0 and 1 and high priority. everything else ie vdub and dvd2avi seem to take advantage of HT but besweet does not is there an updated version that does this or is there a fix to let it use the rest of the processor for the audio mp3 encoding bit.

I'd really like a command line interface to set up all the settings for a single job and start it using a batch file.
That way we can do a single DVD -> DIVX shortcut that includes ripping and encoding the DVD or schedule batch convertions of directories with ripped DVDs every night and automatically burn them.
Would love to see these params:
/if<inputdir> /of<outputfile> /audio<audiosubstr> /subs<subtitlesubstr> /size<size in MB or quality in percentage>
all of them are self-explained except
audiosubstr: Let's say it equals "Greek".. I'd like autogk to select the first item on the subtitle list that has "Greek" in it..
subtitlesubstr: Same as above but for audio channels for example "6ch"
Thanks for this great utility by the way

dont think command line utility for it will ever happen as its meant for newbies and it has a pretty damn good built in queue funtion that takes very few clicks at all

AUTOGK 1.05 beta here sets vdub to use both processors 3.2C HT enabled it all depends whether u followed the guide and made the autogk.exe and/or the virtualdub.exe in win98 compatibility mode
I did not make any changes ie they are running in XP mode
I have not done any changes also I am not talking hyperthread enabled as if I did that I would have 4 processors and not 2 as I have 2 physically different intel cpu both capable of hyperthreading.
Here everything works fine (but for that audio problem) and I have never had any crashing or so on the only problem is that of vdubmod affinity. I have never had once agk starting vdubmod with affinity to both processors while gk has always loaded vdubmod with affinity to both processors that's why I think there must be something in the way that agk calls vdubmod that achieves that result.

I'm a newbie.. A DIVX - XVID newbie though and not a computer one. I don't know anything about quantizers and IVTC and every other weird thing you're talking about in here. That doesn't mean that I don't know how to use the command line. The queue isn't that good. It doesn't have a queue file and I can't change the queue later.

Those ones may not be solved until I get hold of those myself (meaning amount of donations reaches the point when I can afford to buy intel-based PC, I won't be spending my own money on that) since I have to debug the program under that configuration. I'm pretty sure that it's not my faulty code since I do the same things in normal GK(and noone had any issues with that one), but rather one of the libraries I'm using gives me the trouble. But as I said there is no easy way to find that out.
P.S. I just removed some asm code from one of the libraries. Lets see if it solves HT crash issues (although I doubt). But regarding affinity problem - I have no clue since GK and AutoGK launch vdubmod identically.

You just have to live with it. CLI will never gonna happen. (but queue enhancements might)

and also tried 1.07 - situation is the same :(
as i remember - old version before 0.9x worked fine :)
i can attach the log, but i don't think that there are something useful in it
i've used AutoGK 1.07
AviSynth 2.55 (latest)
tried with different XviD builds...
