Hi guys, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but is CoreAVC just a decoder right now? Or a encoder also exist?
just a decoder. but i belive that an encoder is currently in the works...

Hiya Betaboy,

I would like to repeat Har Vas' question from page 129 as I am also interested in seeing CoreAVC integrate some kind of picture controls specific to the decoder. I am also seeing a slightly darker than desirable picture and would love to see some way of customising that in the future. Apart from that I'm very much enjoying how CoreAVC is working.

Any response is appreciated.

Just wondering if someone here would be able to answer me regarding a installation problem I'm having with CoreAVC on WinVista. I wouldn't normally ask this here but seeing as CoreCodec's support can't seem to bother responding to my support ticket (been waiting 3 days now), I thought that perhaps someone had run into similar issues.

The thing is, I just can't seem to install it on Vista, no matter how hard I try. I realize that it isn't really supported on Vista until 1.3 but the error message I'm getting is that the installer is out of date or have been tampered with. I've tried re-downloading, running in compatibility mode etc., but always with the same result. Mostly I just wanted to know if this error was related to Vista or if there was some other problem.

I think the answer is simply: it will refuse to install on Vista.

Thank you very much, that's sorta the answer I was looking for :) I was worried that there was some other cause of my problems, not the least because of the fact that the installer doesn't seem to handle non-US registration names to well (the letter "Ø" becomes "Ã" for instance, and I thought that this very well could be one reason I was getting the error). I would have attempted to install it on XP if not for the fact that the copy protection scheme in CoreAVC is rather restrictive.

Here's hoping for some better, more informational error messages for the next release :)

Why can't I purchase and download CoreAVC? There doesn't seem to be any way to actually get it off their web page. :(

You'd think a company would provide a way for people to purchase their product, wouldn't you?

For ranting: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=118775

However i do agree, once you have a login/pass you should be able to download CoreAVC as many as you like..... the good ioftpd days.... ioftpd now sucks, its opensource! I dont even have to pay for it, where is the fun in that?

neuron2.... Nicole emailed you explaining everything. Prior to this weekend's release we had found additional bug(s) with the decoder and installer that needed to be fixed and warranted the delay.

Thank you for the clarification. Can you please explain the "fundamental changes in the registration process" that she referred to?

if you just would release the decoder i/we could finally use it again. you could release minor updates more often so that users won't have to wait half a year for really anoying bugs to be fixed. and every software has bugs and for all eternety will have bugs, so do we see another coreavc release?

If i was you id msg betaboy.

now after the blabla about releasing a new version and how we all can upgrate free to a vista license (how idiotic is this sounding for a decoder!), i had written a mail to betaboy two weeks ago because i updated to vista on my media center pc. i just wanted to get my license reset to be able to use the said 1.2 vista installer... no take a guess!

NOTHING.

The CoreAVC site should be updated with more recent benchmarks. All they have now are links to reviews using old versions of their software. It'd be nice to know if the newer ones are getting faster or not :)

A soft release... but yeah its there... after the weekend we will include the offline activation in the installer once we are sure there the current 1.3 users have no issues.

DeepBeepMeep
18th March 2007, 10:33
I have just downloaded it ! The installer seems to work better and tells what it is about to do, which is nicer.

However, the color space issue has only been fixed partially: without even using the new option "Convert TV scale to PC Scale" the black level has been corrected for some movies.

Unfortunately, for other movies the option needs to be set and not to really get PC levels but to turn 30 blacks into 16 blacks. Therefore to view all the movies one needs to have multiple CoreaAVC settings which is not convenient.

Please Betaboy before you make the official announcement for 1.3, fix this bug. It would be a real shame to have to wait more months to have a fix for this bug reported since the 1.1 release.

Note that I have this issue whether I add ffdshow in the graph.

- Sample 1: incorrect black level in 1.2 and fixed in 1.3
http://www.sendspace.com/file/hbko4f

- Sample 2: incorrect black level in 1.2 and 1.3 and needs the option "Convert TV scale to PC". In fact the end result is not PC level since the black is at 16.

Jay Bee

Gave it a quick try with the files I had previously had problems with.

good:
-interlaced x264 works now
-directshow deinterlacing works without graphical errors now
-aspect ratio with streams inside AVI works now

bad:
-elecard MBAFF still doesn't work
-playback of AVC in AVI is completely garbled

So playback of only one of the three sample files I sent to CoreAVC were fixed in this version and one was broken. I've uploaded them here (http://rapidshare.com/files/21653026/clips.rar.html) for reference.

It would be nice if these issues could be fixed before 1.3 is released properly. Especially the borked AVI playback is a showstopper that would force me to stop using CoreAVC.

But anyway, thx for the other fixes.

it's well hidden: click sales, click purchases, click on order#, click on download.

Jay Bee... thx we are looking into the AVI issue with your sample.

BetaBoy

Jay Bee... AVI issue fixed... On Elecard... The stream contains Picture Timing SEI messages with pic_struct set to 0. This explicitly tells the decoder that the picture must be displayed as a progressive frame. So.. the stream says its progressive, and is displayed as progressive (but its not)... we would guess that an 'interlaced' option was not checked when encoding it.

We will post the update tomorrow in your core account.... you'll need to download the installer again. Thx again for the report.

Jay Bee
18th March 2007, 20:58
Fastest bugfix ever! Thx. And if the other problem is elecards fault not CoreAVC's then that means that CoreAVC is now a very complete and high performance decoder. Grats!

Betaboy, any chance that something can be done regarding the color space issue which is still unresolved? Thanks in advance for not having us wait a couple more months.

Given the number of times I (and others) have mentioned it in this thread, I am starting to wonder if it is clear to you. The two samples I gave in my previous post should be quite explicit.

Actually most of the HDTV samples located here (http://x264.nl/h.264.samples/) don't work but since the corruption looks similar to the avi problem I mentioned earlier I was going to wait for the fixed version before mentioning it here.

pro7.hd / premiere.hd doesn't work for me either in dvbviewer.
messed up picture with thick flickering lines instead of a picture. coreavc 1.2.0.0 worked fine and cyberlink codec does too, but maybe it is a dvbviewer bug :)

when i switch to "luxe.tv hd" and then back to pro7.hd or premiere.hd has a picture. the aspect ratio is kinda messed and on the right side about a third of the picture is missing.

but the installer worked fine under vista, and all recored videos are working perfect.
