ah! lossless support... what i was waiting for :D
if you need a tester for that i have PLENTY of x264 lossless encodes (even HD stuff)
Hi Sharktooth
Lossless encode of HDTV stuff ? What about the size ??
Sharktooth
16th June 2006, 12:37
Huge. I use it for the test samples to evaluate the codecs efficiency (yuv samples are bigger than lossless samples).
@Betaboy: i noticed the artifacts appear on every interlaced clip (.ts) in the conditions previously described (tested on MPC 6.4.9.0). They propagate thru the subsequent frames untile the next I frame. They appear immediately, but only after the seeking of some frames.

HDTVPump 1.0.9 w/ H.264 support TS push source filter is now ready for testing.
http://dvbportal.dyn1.de/download.php?file=hdtvpump-1.0.9.zip
I have purchased CoreAVC Pro and I am very interested in any TS filter I could use with it. I have tried HDTVPump and this what I have observed so far:
- Much faster than Haali filter, I get 70% CPU usage with Haali and only 45 % CPU for the same file
- Problem with the aspect Ratio, it seems it is incorrectly forwarded to CoreAVC
- Lack support for TS stream that contains AAC. I have quite a few streams that contains He-AAC (TS StreamId x11) and they can't be demuxed. In fact Haali filter has the same problem and it would be nice to add this support
- Not very friendly with errors in the stream. When ever an error is found in the stream it seams all the rest of the GOP is skipped. Since errors are quite common on DVB a smoother a way of handle these would be nice.
Anyway keep on the good work!

Regarding CoreAVC, I have posted some suggestions on other forum. I have summarized them here to get feedbacks of more knowledgable people.
- Haali filter is nice but it has the following inconvenience
* Slow with TS streams, in fact a TS file may stutter like hell with Haali filter and can play almost smoothly once remuxed into a mkv file with the very same Haali filter !
* lack of support of He-AAC (streamId x11), same problem with HDTVPump
* It doesn't like unproperly aligned TS packet at the beginning of a file, that is if the first byte is not an x47 (signature of a TS stream) the file type won't be recognized and we will get the not very meaningful error message "first Element of file is not EBML". Cyberlink splitter is not bothered with improperly aligned TS packets.
- Greater compatibility of CoreAVC with other splitter filters. At the moment it seems impossible to connect in a Directshow Graph CoreAVC to either the Cyberlink demuxer or the Moonlight Elecard demuxer which both are capable of outputing H.264.
If you could add all these improvements, you will surely make lots of people happy. I hope anyway it isn't too late for the next release.

Uhm, maybe the corrupted frames are due to some bug in the TS parser that creates data corruption in the stream passed to the decoder coz they only appear when seeking frame by frame a .ts file...

Sorry for any slowup the past few days... it seems between the few of us here we all got either the flu or crashed motos's and bikes (long stories).
So atm the plan is to get the next version (likely 1.1.0.9) out with the new v1.0 of the 'core account' system later this week. It is still up in the air if we will roll-out online auth and activation for CoreAVC at that time. But what will happen however is that we will give our registered users the 'power' to enable them to sign up for update notifications via email or cell phone. Download the latest updates and change any information related to their account.
But to the point the new version has alot of changes on Haali's side of things with the splitter. As far as what I have left on my 'bugs list' I see only 2 left to fix and one that was reported by bobololo today.

a "source information" tab could be cool, stuff ffdshow is showing like rez, fps and bitrate :)
CruNcher
20th June 2006, 22:41
bitrate is hallis splitter showing
fps can be activated in MPC when not useing Overlay via the statistics :), rez over the properties tab
but yeah frame type, frame size, quantization, AR, output Resolution are still missing everything in 1 place as a OSD would be nice like in the OSD that ffdshow is useing :D

Just installed it a few day's ago. However due to the beta NVIDIA drivers it's not as fast as in Windows XP (x64)

CoreAVC seems A LOT better than ffdshow.
I encoded a lot of HD content with MeGUI. ffdshow shows things like hair VERY blurred, and everything insanely smoothed... That caused me to reencode the files a lot of times, with no solution... then I tried CoreAVC.
It's real better. Now I see everything perfectly sharp :D

Dark Eiri, turn PP off in ffdshow. If that fixes the issue, turn it back on and set "H264 deblocking" in PP to "When decoding H.264 video". In some builds it's properly enabled by default, in others it's incorrect. As an option it should not exist.
Of course, feel free to remain happy with CoreAVC, it's quite better for HD than ffd. =p

I bought coreavc two or three months ago, and the codec did a good job. In the meantime i upgraded my hardware.
After a big fraud with my old 6600GT AGP, (i had alot trouble with h.264 h/a on my 6600GT, i even wrote to theinquirer and emailed with nvidias tech marketing manager europe), the h/a finally functioned on the new 7600GT card :)
and i made some tests
Testsystem:
A8N32-SLI Deluxe
3500+ Venice E6 @ 2.7Ghz
2x 512MB XMS 3200 @ 245Mhz - 2.5-3-3-7-1T
Gigabyte 7600GT Silent Pipe II
WD Raptor 36GB
Software:
Windows XP SP2
Media Player Classic v6.4.9.0
PowerDVD v7.0.1725 (CL264dec.ax build v1.7.0.1626 with PureVideo support)
CoreAVC Pro v1.1
testmovie The_Greatest_Game_Ever_Played_1920_x_1080_AVC from nerodigital.com
cpu usage recorded with Perfmon
And here are the results
http://home.arcor.de/johnnyfu/screen_shots/h.264_decoder_test.jpg
Avarage CPU usage diagram (http://home.arcor.de/johnnyfu/screen_shots/h.264_decoder_test2.jpg)
PDVD7: 30%
MPC + PDVD7 dec.ax: 40%
MPC + CoreAVC 1.1 Pro + Haali: 60%
i have to say that for unknown reasons powerdvd really screwed up the aac-audio.. partly it sounds more than metallic, there is definitly something wrong, maybe thats the reason why the 7.0.175 build was removed from cyberlink.com
thx to alphamoose from computerbase board for the inspiration
and by the way alphamoose made tests too, as you can see here http://www.alphamoose.de/h264.pdf
A the moment i can not recommend to buy CoreAVC, PureVideo is much better. Also the CoreAVC support is really bad.. answers on the support forum are really rare... most of the time there is no answer... you are alone and your money away.

Does last Powerdvd 7.0.1725 support H.264 High Profile?

JohnnyFu, so do i have to buy powerdvd ($60) + a new graphics card 7600 ($190) to reduce 30% cpu usage?
IgorC
25th June 2006, 23:16
PowerDVD decodes High Profile with coloration and other visual issues. I don't have videocard with acel. H.264 support to compare but PowerDVD without hard. aceleration is aprox 35% slower than Nero decoder. And CoreAVC is faster than Nero6 decoder.
so when Coreavc will support hard. aceleration it should be faster than PowerDVD+gpu.

BBC HD World Cup 2006 coverage is in high profile and it plays perfectly with both PDVD7 Codecs 1.6.0.1528 and 1.7.0.1626.
The test however is unfair. You can't compare accelerated PDVD7 with unaccelerated CoreAVC.
Suchy
26th June 2006, 08:57
He can. Even more: He should.
Until CoreAVC havn't GPU acceleration it will be his weak point.
Comparision should be between the best solutions in each decoder, becasue it's what is interresing us.

hmm i have major problems with High Profile and PowerDVDs cl264 1.7.0.1705_DXVA decoder :P look here my Balanced HD High Profile Encode looks like this with it , also The Greates Game Ever Played Trailer can't reach realtime (System Default Renderer in MPC) with it with CoreAVC no prob. And all that non overclocked with 1.8 GHz on AMD 64 Venice 3000+
Geforce 7600 GS + 91.31 WHQL forceware
http://cruncher.mufflastig.com/h264/decoder/cl264_dec_problem.png
ok Main Profile looks good indeed with the PowerDVD Decoder and DXVA on tested with timecodec and VMR9 output
Serenity 1080p Quicktime Trailer
CoreAVC
User: 66s, kernel: 2s, total: 69s, real: 76s, fps: 49.1, dfps: 44.3
PowerDVD DXVA
User: 37s, kernel: 7s, total: 45s, real: 54s, fps: 74.6, dfps: 62.9
Syriana 1080p Quicktime Trailer
CoreAVC
User: 77s, kernel: 4s, total: 81s, real: 88s, fps: 41.7, dfps: 38.6
PowerDVD DXVA
User: 51s, kernel: 9s, total: 61s, real: 69s, fps: 55.6, dfps: 49.2
The Greatest Game Ever Played (Nero Trailer)
CoreAVC
User: 89s, kernel: 3s, total: 93s, real: 102s, fps: 39.4, dfps: 35.9
PowerDVD DXVA
User: 66s, kernel: 17s, total: 83s, real: 94s, fps: 44.1, dfps: 38.8
But something looks strange here hmmm it seems PowerDVDs Decoder internaly downsamples the input :P im not quite sure but the Window after loading the clip (MPC VMR9 renderless) is smaller then normaly only with Zoom 100 it's scaled on the complete monitor with other Decoders that is not the case, very strange. This behaviour is only visible when DXVA is active on VMR9 Renderless and is not visible either with DXVA enabled/disabled when useing the VMR9 windowed renderer.
Edit: After comparing the output quality PowerDVDs Decoder is not cheating soft and dxva have the same quality as coreavcs soft mode only the picture is a little more brighter with PowerDVD.

Dont recall yanking your chain. The issue is being dealt with, even with your smart ass remark. Furthermore, I seriously doubt it is an issue on my end because I have received previous updates. Perhaps you should heed your own advice about PMs because you are silly if you think you are going to call someone out and have them not respond.
I didnt bash Core or BetaBoy. I just said it was freakin riodiculous that it has taken me so long to get an updated copy. Not once did I say Core is shitty or for anyone to not buy it. If you cant see the frustration for a product that I have paid for and dont have the latest version, then perhaps you should read and ignore instead of throwing your two cents in when it wasnt asked for.

We had planned it for this past weekend.... but bobololo found a DS bug related to resizing we had to fix. As well as the fact we want to release this with the Core Account system and the authentication too.
So atm... no ETA as we are also working on some requested COM related features and the decoder SDK.
