BetaBoy,
Any news on the issue of GPU acceleration for CoreAVC Pro? I have a vague (and possibly incorrect) impression that it was "close", then it had to go on a back burner because of some driver SNAFUs from the video manufacturers, and then there was uncertainty over what the GPU APIs would be. I wonder if you could perhaps give us the lie of the land?
I'm pretty happy with Pro v1.1, since everything I use it for works and I can do things that were impossible without it (like playing my own 1080p/24 AVC high profile unrestricted encodes). But I got a taste of that double framerate deinterlacer with the credits on the BBC h264 samples and I liked what I saw, only my X2 64 3800+ bottomed out above about 6mbps. So I'm kind of interested in any performance gains you might have up your sleeves... :)

I'm sure not everyone wants to hear about my troubles, but it seems to be the way things get fixed....
I was one of the enthusiastic people who purchased coreAVC the first day it was offered. I patiently waited about 3 days before I got my download link. I understood this slowdown and had no problems waiting.
However, since then, I havn't received any update notifications. I PM'ed betaboy and emailed their support over a week ago and havn't had any kind of response.
I love the product. It's unique and is a quality product. I wish there was more of this innovation around. But once software needs to be purchased, attention needs to be spent on customer support.
Again... none of you would see this if I the other channels of communication would have worked. Sorry for the interruption.

I neglected to take a screen grap of CoreAVC's interlaced "drop-down" options before my test sample decoder expired :(
Can anybody oblige please?

@ field_g & Betaboy
Ditto. I bought CoreAVC the first day, there were some problems sending out the e-mail, so I got sent a version called 'test', though it was actually the final release. Haven't had any e-mails since then, for update links or otherwise, and haven't had a response to the e-mail I sent to support a few weeks ago.
I guess with the chaos of getting out all the e-mails manually in the first few days, our addresses maybe got lost off the updates mailing list.
Betaboy, as field_g said - sorry to go OT, but could we get back on the list. I know this isn't the place, but there's at least a couple of us waiting for updates, with this thread our only source of info.
Terrific app, BTW! Can't wait for the rest of the suite.

Hi all,
At the moment I am trying to use mpc + coreavc to decode a certain hd ts stream. The problem seems to me that MPC will only use an internal splitter to decode a udf/udp source. Does anyone know how to make it use Haali.
When I do it off hard disk it uses mpc coreavc haali and works beautifully the problem is witht eh ts stream...

James

In Media Player Classic, click on View -> Options -> Internal Filters. Then uncheck the "MP4/MOV" option under "Source Filters.

It is still using the native mpc media splitter. I ahve switched them all off and the only one that will work on the udp stream is the internal splitter. Unfortunately I probably need an update of Media Player Classic..
Thanks for the quick response

today i tested CoreAVC with Live DVB Streams. I Used Luxe TV HD on Hotbird. Tested with DVB Viewer 3.5. It works, but CoreAVC used only one of the 2 Cores at my AMD X2 ?!?!
I also Record a little Sample. I will upload it later and send you a PM, because, i can't play this file in mplayer.
EDIT: tested it also with DVBDream 1.1. Same Problem, CoreAVC used only one core :(
EDIT2: Disable Option in DVB Dream to Used only One CPU *g* Now it works fine in dvbdream

Sounds like something on your local config... this is the first report of 'anything' wrong with SMP.
I got the file.... we'll look at it, thx.

hopefully never. since people keep bothering them. Plus if you read carefully their internal builds are already in the teens.....
Plus their site is down quite often lately =P. Maybe their on a microsoft box hahah.
In all seriousness they should complete the core account system before they offer trials. Considering trials are like a pirates wet dream.

Yeah its an issue with the current version of GForge and the fact we have more then tripled our traffic in the past 3 months. So we are bringing up all the new sites and servers within the next few weeks/months accordingly. First is our corporate website next week @ www.corecodec.net

Hey BetaBoy!
Do you have any news about GPU support?
Every GPU will be compatible, or only the "ready for H.264 acceleration" (like ATi x1X00 or GeForce 6 series)?
I think this will HIGHLY influence the new graphics card that I will buy.
Thanks!

Just noticed this in the xbmc changelog::
- 03-07-2006 added: some more emulation needed for the coreavc codec (still not entirely there)
I'm curious to see if using coreAVC eventually will allow xbmc to play 720p or HRHDTV AVC resolutions

looking at screen-shots of coreavc is there going to be any brightness/gamma controls, cheers

Honestly I hate gamma and brightness or whatever color controls in codec, they have nothing to do there, if you want to adjust them use overlay color controls or your players color control settings and not settings for each codec. Issues with the coloring should be fixed on the output layer and not on the decoding layer.

What a dilemma - cant try out CoreAVC because there is no trial and cant purchase it because the online payment form doesnt list the middle eastern country I am working in right now, so I cant pay by credit card and there are no other payment options - PayPal has the same restrictions. Cant see that you're going to get any customers in the middle east this way.
I tested latest CoreAVC and I'm impressed so far with it. It outputs a bit better image than libavcodec that is used in ffdshow.

Strange. Though everybody agrees on saying that CoreAVC is definitely faster, and by far, than libavcodec, the visual quality is the same. If it's not, then you misconfigured FFDShow.
I can show you screenshots, but print page does not work in WMP10. What can I use to take screenies?

There have been numerous threads & posts on why and how overlay interactions between ffdshow & you graphic cards could lead to some visual discrepancies. Here is a post that shows the issue :

I do not have any problems with ffdshow and overlay, however you were right, quality is identical. I disabled PostProcessing in ffdshow and video quality look exactly the same when decoding h.264 video in ffdshow and CoreAVC. CoreAVC loads processor an avg. 11%-14% while ffdshow 18%-21%. (Win XP Pro x64, oced AMD X2 3800 at 3.10Ghz + DFI LanParty nf4 SLI-DR + 1GB RAM with very tight timings 2-2-2-0 old BH-5 chips, oh and NV6600GT card with 91.31 driver)

Hello, i bought coreavc (pro) yesterday.
I just wanted to say you're making something great. I have a rather old processor for avc (AMD athlon XP 2000+) and i can decode 720p streams it's really amazing.
But i have a very very very high cpu usage (80-100%). And for some videos i have to turn deblocking off (it doesn't really affects the image since it's for 3Mbps+ streams and blocking is alost never visible) probably unrestricted high profile, i don't know.
I would like to know if there were any ways to use a little less cpu (like with a particular output method or using a different playback software).
I am currently using mediaplayerclassic 6490 haali's matroska splitter (the latest available from x264.nl), coreavc 1.1.0.5 (deblocking on for all videos except the one i was talking about).
My graphic card is a geforce 6600GT (AGP on AGP4x slot), i know betaboy is busy and can't really talk about any gpu acceleration right now, but when i tested the gpu acceleration at the very beginning, it didn't seemed to work both with wmv and avc (nero demo).
Has the issue been solved ? Do i have any hope of using core avc gpu acceleration when it's available ?
Thanks
Ah a last thing, when i bought my license, the link after i had paid wasn't working. But the one from the email worked, the links were different.

the only thing I can think of is use "Overlay Mixer" in MPC. It's the fastest you can get.

I still think it would be a nice idea to have a rice coding step to replace CABAC (CARC?), since it has nearly the efficiency of CABAC with nearly the speed of CAVLC. Oh well, I guess non-standard extensions aren't going to get any traction unless we can get them in front of JVC. ^^;

This seems less and less like a freak accidental overlooking and more so like negligence.
My original PM to Betaboy was on June 20th (22 days ago).
An email was also sent to support@corecodec.com on June 26th (16 days ago). I wrote a complain in this forum on the June 28th (14 days ago). I have heard nothing from the company. The only thing I've heard are complaints from others saying the same thing is happening to them.
Not only has betaboy visited this forum multiple times, he has posted 6 replies to others.
Come on.... fix this.

Negligence in the fact we have had to migrated to a new mail server to handle what we are now doing. I have checked and your notifications were sent twice. However many mail servers were flagging our emails as spam not from the content but from IP class we were on. So we have opted to 'grow' with our new dedicated mail services to eliminate problems like this.

I went into my University of Minnesota central email settings and found this:
2006/07/12 2:16pm <apache@coreforge.org> (NO NAME)
[64.192.171.160] DNS Make an exception
The explanation of a DNS block is:
DNS - Reverse DNS
Reverse DNS allows us to associate a host name with an IP address. A large portion of our unwanted e-mail originates, or is relayed through, systems that are not properly defined in DNS. This classification will be applied to areas of the Internet where we can pre-empt future abuse by requiring the remote site to be properly defined in DNS prior to sending us e-mail.
Since I got the original CoreAVC link, I didn't think of this being a problem. It seems that there is no DNS entries for your email server and if it were registered, it would no longer be blocked. It has been added to my personal exception list. Unfortunately, I am not able to recover the blocked message. I informed support@corecodec.com. Please be willing to make sure that gets resent yet again.
Thanks for your helpful actions. Just wish I could have seen them happening before!

Hi there, purchased CoreAVC Pro a couple of days ago and I'm very pleased with the performance.
However I use MCE for playing back my video files, and I've found that CoreAVC locks up MCE when I press the stop button during playback. I get a similar result with Windows Media Player (10) - it stops responding after I stop the playback or try and "remove from list" the file I'm playing.
I don't have this issue when playing from MPC or graphedit, but I really like to use MCE for playback. I checked on a friends PC and get the same result with WMP, and someone has now also found the same problem with MCE. The issue disappears if I switch to ffdshow/libavcodec H.264 decoder.
I'm surprised this has hasn't been reported by anyone else, is it a known bug? (Unfortunately it's not possible to search for "MCE" or "WMP" in this thread due to forum search engine limitations!).
I posted a thread over at corecodec forums too here (http://www.corecodec.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28&expv=0&topic=3012.0)
Let me know if there's any further details I can collect to track down the problem.
Thanks in advance

Use WMP 6.4. Or even Media Player Classic instead. If you don't have any issues, then it's probably an issue with WMP10.
