dunno if this is the right place - i did search but didnt find anything of help

here goes:

a friend of mine has been singing the praises of this codec about how it uses less cpu is faster and such and got me interested, so i took a vid i backed up (i own the dvd :) ) using megui and neros aac audio encoder and tried playing the video on his pc.

The film is ong-bak and is 16:9 yet on his pc it plays back as a squashed up 4:3, is this an issue with the codec or the way i backed up the video.

More importantly is there a solution, as this is the only sticking point for me buying the codec

Thanks

I'm not so sure about MPEG-4 AVC streams with aspect ratio signalling within the AVI container though!

its an mkv file - would that make any difference ?

kurt
17th May 2006, 21:04
not really, coreavc detects for example in this file (http://home.arcor.de/evil.bert/test/x264.2320.cqm.str2.tres3.hq.slowest.dar.mkv) the right AR.

Carpo

think its a prob my end then as i sent him that file and he says its playing in wide screen

way i made file

dgmpgdec146 to make d2v
megui to make avs (MeGUI-0.2.3.2136)
nero to make audio (new cli encoder)
megui to make .264/mkv output tried raw as some ppl said it might help
then used yamb(incase of raw 264 stream) to mux audio and video
mkvtools if mkv was used

also is http://corecodec.org/ working for anyone else - i keep getting errors here :(

edit: hes just told me hes ran it thru mkvmerge with the ratio of 16:9 set and remuxed it and its playing as 16:9 now with coreavc :) - now if i could just get to the core site ;)

Sorry to ask but I haven't been around.. Is CoreAVC Decoder 0.0.0.4 the latest version?

kurt

no, the latest version is coreavc 1.0 wich you have to purchase on http://www.coreavc.com/ (wich is down atm)

btw: check the first post in this thread ;)

To be honest... when its ready. If we roll out 1.1 as planned soon we can do it then.

Hi all,

Sorry for this probably stupid question (I'm a newbie with AVC). I'd like to record the HDTV transmissions BBC is planning on Astra2 for May 27 (the Planet Earth ones they announced), probably using DVBViewer, but don't have a working h.264 decoder installed yet. I own a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+. Will the CoreAVC professional version actually use both cores, or does that feature maybe only work on Pentium dualcores? As there is no demo version, I cannot try it out...

Thanks in advance, Andy

CoreAVC does use both cores.

As far as BBC transmissions go, CoreAVC currently cant help you even decode them yet because CoreAVC lacks support for MBAFF interlacing. Without MBAFF support, the video can't be decoded. Only PAFF interlacing is supported.

MBAFF is currently being worked on.

Just to be sure, there's no hope for the CoreAVC decoder appearing in XBMC, right?

I have no picture in fullscreen-overlay mode with MPC ... (VMR9 renderless works OK.)
I don't know what went wrong back then, but it's working now...
So sorry to bother you ...

Hello

I have downloaded an AVC clip from this link:
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/05/06/ibuypower_19inch_sli_notebook/

It's an interview from Tom's Hardware site for a new laptop.

It does not play with CoreAVC 0.0.0.4 AND 1.0.0.0

With PowerDVD and others, plays just fine!

Does anyone know why?

Is it my configuration or a bug in CoreAVC?

VLC player played it fine. Not too surprising though. VLC player tends to not be as strict about how files are structured. CoreAVC can be problematic with files that aren't specified correctly like the half-field issue I described here (http://www.corecodec.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=29&expv=0&topic=2751.msg16660#msg16660) and here (http://www.corecodec.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=29&expv=0&topic=2751.msg16669#msg16669).

The file may not have all standard headers, but does a decoder really need to know the average bitrate to decode a file properly? And in any case is that really the problem here? I'm not trying to imply anything with these questions, I really don't know :p

Shinigami-Sama

If it doesnt know the average, how is it going to know how muchto buffer?

I suppose you'd have to ask the developers of...

VLC
PowerDVD
WinDVD
Nero ShowTime AND
libavcodec from ffdshow!
... that question.

You can go to the feedback page here (http://www.tomshardware.com/site/submission/feedback.html) and ask Humphrey Cheung. Just choose his name in the "Choose Recipients" selection. He's the video editor according to the credits at the end of the video.

Thanks. This problem seems to only be with PAFF interlaced content muxed with MP4Box. MP4Creator works fine. Using MP4Creator to mux the content is a temporary solution for now.

EDIT: Actually I'm not sure if it's PAFF or not. It could be plain fixed interlacing.

Two questions for BetaBoy:

1. When will be that trial package
2. Can you check this about CoreAAC (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=831158#post831158)

BetaBoy, just want you to know that I bought CoreAVC Pro and I'm very happy.

I spent about 24 hours doing my first 1080 high profile encode, and then found I wasn't even close to playing it with Zoom Player and ffdshow on my A64 X2 3800+. So I bought CoreAVC Pro, and it worked just fine. :)

yes, thx for pointing it out. However I had a third party talk to me about it and states that the X264 stream was not compliant?

I have not had time to investigate it but will do so after the weekend.

hi betaboy, i'm still working toward getting coreavc working for xbmc (not there yet, it's initing but something is throwing an exception on decoding.). just wondered something, currently we init the dshow codec in one thread, while playback will later occure from another. I noticed the use of tlsalloc and tlsgetvalue during init, would this cause troubles for the codec if those values are not the same when playback stars? would not be too hard to copy them over, just wonder if it's needed. could be interesting from other players perspective too.

also if we do get it working, how would you prefer licence information to be stored?

I believe I have the hardware to test MBAFF with as you asked for in the libavcodec MBAFF thread.

Any developer who needs some 'live' H.264 High Profile 1080i 50 Hz (interlaced source) with MBAFF, for testing purposes, is welcome to PM me. Ok... World Cup fans get ready to rejoice!

We are predicting a launch of CoreAVC 1.1 with MBAFF on June 7-8th. Anyone that has the hardware capable of handling Interlaced content like MBAFF. Please PM me here at D9 w/your email address and if you have the time between June 4-6 for testing. You must have the time/hardware to test so please only SERIOUS testers.

Also 1.1 does feature many bug fixes, new online authentication and I am hoping Haali has time to add TS timestamp support as well.

Worse (and I hope this is just isolated to me) on playback using seeking, video seems to "fast forward" until it catches up to the point where I seeked to originally.

Will this problem be fixed in the future version. And BTW could you add the avc1 fourcc to the accepted 4cc of coreavc (some mkv VfW h264 file have lower case avc1 4cc and coreavc cannot connect).

There is a 400Mb sample here:

You need to register to use the torrent [but there's some great stuff on that site anyway]

There are a few torrents about that don't need to be registered, I'll try and find them.

I hope they help :)

Cheers,
