I read the minds of the people who have been posting in this thread as the last 50 posts have all been coreavc bashing. So yeah I think it's reasonable to be a little skeptical of your intentions.
Ah, I see, and you are fighting here with those, who don't like CoreAVC?
As for not needing coreavc. ffdshow still doesn't come anywhere near it. Sorry to say.
Yeah, many playable formats, fast bugfixes, no superior drm scheme, not near, yes :D :D :D

Really? So, there is no matter when cpu usage is 100 or 50%? :rolleyes:Not in the context of running a benchmark in which the dfps is the value of interest.
But this is getting way off-topic.

We are comparing H264 decoding only. Coreavc still stomps it into the ground. FFdshow does have many uses I'm just saying that it's not up to par on h264 at the moment.......you should move this to it's own thread for discussion. If people want to know about free solutions then they can research it. IT would be like putting a linux sticker on microsoft's homepage.

for those who want to know:
Yes, CoreAVC complains if you change the OS (WinXP->Vista) and gives you an already registered contact support. (-> wrote an email to CoreCodec DOT Sales AT gmail DOT com, 16h ago, let's see how long this takes)
An yes atm. CoreAVC is the best solution out there to playback interlaced avc content like bbc and sky broadcast them.

Just to let you know the next revision fixes all major issues reported in this thread. One additional issue was found and reported so it will likely be fixed as well.
1 Additional feature was added and although I'm not 100% sure what it does (technically speaking) I'm sure it works as it's probably the solution for interlacing issues.

ChronoCross can you confirm whether the colorspace issue has been fixed (wrong black and white levels if coreavc is not directly connected to VRM9 renderer) ? Thanks

do you have a source or method for directly testing this. I remember the issue I just can't remember how to reproduce it.

ChronoCross,
it seems like you have some kind of direct contact with Core people. If I'm not wrong, can you, pleaaaaase, point them to my registration problem, because it's now more than a month ... and I still haven't received the 1.2 update :(
I've written them probably a dozen e-mails/PM/ICQ messages without any response. I really don't like to miss this update too
:(

It seems to only affect PAFF streams AFAIK. libavcodec/powerdvd et al display the correct levels, CoreAVC will if you use VMR9 + Fix VMR9, but not on Overlay.

Maybe this has already been fixed but there is another problem with deinterlacing. Look at the green light at the end of the pitwall. It keeps popping out of its housing in every other frame.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8037/41080i50avc10000mp40000vg0.jpg
The file was encoded using the Elecard encoder and this problem only happens when CoreAVC is set to DirectShow deinterlacing. The problem goes away if you encode MBAFF instead of pure interlaced.

In addition the option "fix VMR9 colors" won't have any effect if there is a filter between coreavc and the video renderer (for instance ffdshow). It seems to me that the color fix is done using hardware means or by propagating some flags and this obviously lost if you use overlay or if a software filter is inserted.
I had sent a sample to betaboy to do some testing so he sould be aware of the bug but since I nevor got any feedback...

Is it necessary to use FFDShow with CoreAVC in some situations? So far I haven't found a need but am curious why someone would use it.
It is possible that FFDShow inserts itself after CoreAVC even when unwanted (usually when Raw video is enabled). I found a way of preventing this by modifying the source code of current FFDShow builds so that FFDShow will refuse to load if it finds that CoreAVC is in the graph.
I posted the relevant source code changes on avsforum.com in one of the recent FFDShow threads - however, it is not really useable by the average user. It's more of an experiment really, but could be of use - PM for details and I'll try to dig up the diffs.

It could be useful to add ffdshow after coreavc in any of these cases:
- Add subtitles
- Use a custom software deinterlacer
- Any post processing (edge enhancements, etc...)
Anyway since we don't buy here a fully fonctional AVC player but we buy a Directshow filter we should expect to be able to put in any graph...

I'm very curious of this as well, since I prefer Overlay. My HTPC has the horsepower for VMR9, but to me eyes, overlay looks a tad sharper.

What happened to the addon of CoreAAC 2.0?
Will the issue of downgrading of 4 cores to 2 cores be resolved in this new version?
Will Coreavc support the .EVO file format from ripped HD-DVD's?
Lets hope your as agressive in forums post answering as you are in emails ;)

We will still be adding CoreAAC later on. We will not however add it till we have finished our AAC v2 (plus) support.
On multicore support... we never downgraded... it was a matter of what the decoder core was capable of... hence why I changed it from 4 to 2. However will we will be adding further enhancements for additional cores in q future release.
On .EVO ... yes but give me a little bit to post more details.

Good luck with the new venture your product will support.
Is CoreAAC v2 (plus) projected to be added with the 1.xx series of CoreAVC?
Is multicore support for 4 processors projected to be reintroduced for the version 1.xx series of CoreAVC?

very nice, i still think that 'The Venice Project' should have UDP multicasting DHT tunnels as an option to help encurage general bandwidth savings alongside AVC/H.264 .
they did'nt reply to my requests/info, arr well.
im still hopeing for a CoreAVC for the PPC linux soon (as in 'power PC' not that other one)
so that things like the Pegasos 8641D boards can use it to good effect in all the consumer linux projects it will help, AVC car kit, wireless Mesh video, and far more.

Betaboy.
Can you tell me if CoreAVC codec will allow me to view files from the Sony SR1E camcorder. And therefore edit them in an NLE?
Thanks
(BTW, i cannot get to the http://corecodec.org/ at all :( )
clsid
17th January 2007, 17:50
If the NLE of your choice requires a VFW codec, then CoreAVC won't work, since it a DirectShow filter.
ffdshow is free and contains a VFW interface for decoding H.264

i do not know if you noticed, but the 64bit version of vista ships with a 64bit media center (but wmp11 is still 32bit). so nothing without a 64bit decoder and/or splitter will be played. please consider this for the next (hopefully not so distant) release of coreavc.
ChronoCross
19th January 2007, 00:19
that basically screws pretty much every codec in existence right now.....

CoreAVC 64 bit is planned around the time we release our Enterprise Edition as well as our initial CoreAVC Encoder.
On a side note... The next release of CoreAVC will be released around the time Vista is released (1/30) as we have Vista enhancements as well as the pre-mentioned bug fixes and improved registration process. This will also include Haali's latest non-public splitter.
