Never tick that checkbox, it usually does only bad things. The next version already has it renamed and a warning attached. As a general rule, only change default settings if you actually know what it does :)

are you sure LAV Filters, is compatible with x265 10bit?

x265 is an encoder but yes lavfilter can decode h265 10 bit.

As a general rule, only change default settings if you actually know what it does :)People should read the help tooltips in LAV settings more often, imo they offer pretty good descriptions, e.g. "if you do not experience any problems, it's recommended to leave this setting untouched" for this one. :D

What does "weirdly" mean? Are you using LAV Video as well? If so, what decoder (software, D3D11, DXVA etc.)? Can you pinpoint the exact nightly version it was introduced? (I don't see anything weird with 0.71.0.34 and MPC-HC nor MPC-BE.)

i'm using LAV Video, Audio, and Splitter from 0.71-34... and i'm using software decoder mode... but the problem is the splitter... when i'm using LAV Splitter from 0.71 or MPC-BE internal Splitter (Version 1.5.1) it's seek smoothly, there's no lag whatsoever... but when i use LAV Splitter from 0.71-34, there's a little lag... can you reproduce the problem ? or is it only me that have this problem ?

another sample... is this youtube video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Lz2AeEnZE

I cannot reproduce with the Infinity.Challenge.E498.mp4 sample (https://drive.google.com/open?id=18edu0WCzOLOelgR1M4NEe9SR84SGz6Ft) (md5 9b479c56f334fdfda11bb36a31d9d3e8) you uploaded the other day.

Again: which nightly introduced the problem? There were 13 nightlies between 0.71 and 0.71.0.34.

Don't post links to youtube as samples. Youtube provides like 30 different streams depending on the upload/client pc/browser/connection speed.

noticed a bug with D3D11, sorry is this is already known, i get a frame repeat every 10 mins with 23hz 3d MVC playback, with dxva copy back its hours/days before I get a frame repeat.

:(

nevcairiel
8th May 2018, 22:21
We've been over this before - hardware acceleration settings have absolutely zero impact on 3D MVC playback.

mclingo
9th May 2018, 00:26
no but setting a different accelerator may cause a player to act differently for some reason, after further investigation its only doing it KODI DS both MPC-BE and HC are fine, HC is using onboard filters and BE ive set to use external like DS does.

i'll maybe move this to the DS forum as its clearly not a LAV issue.

cheers.

To be on the safe side you could set up LAV Filters in a Windows VM and simply export its registry keys.

indeed that's a way to do it, thanks

nev did you look at the atmos decoder in windows and if it can be used for headphone user?

it's supposed to work with netflix so there has to be a decoder even through it's only useful for headphone user.

Asmodian

There is also an atmos decoder for home theater, I think it costs 15 USD or something, "Dolby Access" in the play store. The headphone decoder is also only available through this app, as far as I can tell, though it is free. :p

huhn
11th May 2018, 19:08
it's a atmos decoder for headphones or with other words it get atmos in and outputs "stereo".

decoding atmos is currently only useful for headphones. for speaker you need a measuring device and a audio renderer that can understand decoded atmos.

and if this page is correctly there has to be a decoder: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/dolby-access/9n0866fs04w8

could be a bad joke too i'm mean you can use dolby atmos headphone for 7.1 which is about as bad as dolby headphone...

for games and AVR it needs an encoder not sure how this encoder could be of any use for lavfilter.

Why do you say such nonsense? Dolby headphones is great. It's the best commercial multi channel virtualization technology. (Not as good as the free stuff (https://1drv.ms/f/s!AnbO8YLUAW6Jh1XaISDxGiV5Mlym)someone threw together from free HRIR datasets (http://audiogroup.web.th-koeln.de/ku100nfhrir.html), but still better than all others (https://sourceforge.net/p/equalizerapo/discussion/general/thread/3a03d8df/).)

How does this work? Is some sort of system level DSP? Or I need to use a dshow codec in the player?

There is nothing special about those stuff it is basic convolution and can be done with ffmpeg already.

sorry i'm not going into detail with dolby headphone and the bad implementation of dolby atmos headphone with 7.1 input.
dolby headphone has major processing issue which can easily clip this alone is enough.

if you compare a native atmos implementation and a dolby atmos 7.1 to phones there is nothing to compare the quality just bad.

Well there are no effects in LAV so it does little good to me.

(Even if it's basic convolution, the availability of a decent surround virtualization is lacking, particularly in foss software. )

Don't even get me started, I've never seen a single inclusion of even a good limiting amp in free video software in all the years people have been asking for better volume control. Every music player has a half-dozen plugins or settings to do it with no fuss, and it's implemented for ac3 decoding, so I have no idea why it's impossible to get it into a directshow filter or MPC-BE in a generic fashion. Even Audacity, of all things, has nothing similar, and at best has a two-step limit-then-amplify (manually calculating how much), and of course, Audacity is still stuck on a 4-year-old build of ffmpeg, so good luck opening Opus or Tak.

There was at least one: DynEQ (formerly known as DeDynamic), I think it was a link (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=71860) on doom9.
It was the best for me for 2ch output.

Don't miss the point that (IIRC...) Dolby Digital (AC3) decoders are able to use metadata in the bitstream to know immediately recommended values already stored by the encoder. May they just be the exponent of a floating point representation of loudness or DialNorm values, or even respect acoustic room models set up in the AC3 encoder, I am not sure; but there is definitely an advantage over dynamic range control for unexpected miscellaneous audio which requires a look-ahead window and introduces a latency.

That's handy when you're in a living room, but for instance, watching Lawrence of Arabia on a road trip some years back was an exercise in frustration, as nothing I could do could get the level of the dialogue up above the road noise with the headphones I had, short of badly distorting the music. It's also only applicable to AC3, which I try to never use. A decent hard limiter only needs about 10 ms or so of latency, well below the usual decoding queues, and again, it'd be a tradeoff the viewer could make.

LigH
15th May 2018, 18:33
Well, I programmed one with 0 latency (BeSweet's "booster"), but audiophiles will complain that it distorts the sound.

Hi folks, Im on MPC-HC 0.71.25, Windows 7, GTX960 (391.35). Playing back HEVC UHD videos with DXVA Copy back and GTX960 as active decoder, I get 120ms rendering times with hundreds of dropped frames. Madvr is set to low quality algorithms (Lanczos).

Is the Nvidia driver faulty? Playback worked a couple of weeks ago.

Perform a system restore to a couple of weeks ago then and work it out from there.

mclingo
19th May 2018, 12:44
if your system hasnt changed much in two weeks that might be good advice, its worth a quick reinstall of MADVR first though to see how it plays with default settings. If that doesnt work then a reinstall of the NVIDIA driver.

I'd also check to see what MS updates you've pickup up, I have mine disabled as I'm avoid the latest big update like the plague.

Okay, that's weird. Now it's working on my primary display (which is a monitor). It doesn't work on secondary display (projector). The projector was working as a single device (no shared screen) when I tested. It seems I need to do more tests.

Is the monitor on the Nvidia and the projector on onboard? Or vice versa? Sounds like an issue where it's being decoded on one and not able to be transferred to the other.

That file is pretty ordinary yuv420p h264 with NV12 output, its in no way that I can tell special.

If it works with multiple renderers, but not with one, what is the most logical conclusion to take? :)
Either your configuration is bonkers or the renderer is faulty.

OK but then why MPC-BE's internal video decoder + EVR-CP (or EVR or Sync or madVR) outputs the correct black level ?

Or even when using LAV + EVR-CP + other files I get correct black levels

did you change any output settings in lav?

Nope tested with default settings for both MPC-BE and LAV and just changed HW decoder to Native or Copy-back or software or D3D11 and the renderer to EVR or Sync or EVR-CP or madVR

the file doesn't have range information and hardware decoding is used so what ever is done to it in term of range is done by the renderer.

No matter what I do, LAV pickup subtitle in alphabetical order. (Running MPC-HC from last xp version of kliteMegaCodecPack for winxp, LAV splitter v0.70.2.17-git). I'm trying to have SPA subtitles, but even putting spa alone, or in advanced "*:spa", it always chooses first alphabetical (renaming subtitle to xxxxxx.ara.srt will make that the first picked up subtitle). Is there a way to pickup desired subtitle instead?

External subtitles in .srt files are not controlled by LAV, you would have to convince MPC-HC to honor a language preference.

ok, so i'm going to ask a question I feel I should know the answer too but I dont, please forgive my ignorance.

I've recently purchased some wireless headphones to watch movies late night with, I have two sets, I have some RF Sony Platinums which I can also use for gaming but I also have a pair of bluetooth.

Neither will play any sound when i'm set to bitstream, with these being digital headphones I would have thought this would have worked, clearly my understanding of bitstreaming is massively lacking.

Am I doing something wrong, completely misunderstanding bitstreaming in LAV or both, or am I just a massive numpt-o-noob or all three?

You need a decoder (ac3, dts etc.) somewhere. Seems like your headphones dont have decoders onboard => no sound with bitstream output.

thats obvious now you've said that, my brain just needed a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks.

Would be greate if LAV could fallback to PCM if the renderer doesnt support bitstreaming, but I think we have discussed this issue in the past and there was no solution to do this properly.

yeah that would be really nice, must be possible but i'm sure Nev has lots of other priorities. For now i've just setup a seperate player for phones.

cheers.

PS: As an exception, if: "Two and a Half Men - 5x01 - Large Birds Spiders and Mom.avi"
With an extra space "Birds Spiders" will show .spa instead.

The settings in LAV Splitter are only for embedded subtitles, not for external subtitle files.

You can configure it here for external ones:
MPC-HC options > Playback > Default Track Preference

The K-Lite installer even has options to select your preferred language(s), which configures everything automatically.
