You mean you have to deal with new bugs that appeared during the integration of your LAV CUVID, or the bugs you mention were always there from the beginning even in LAV CUVID ?
Maybe a hardware's bug like MPEG2 ?
Its a bug in the CUVID implementation, most likely in the parser, which is part of the NVIDIA driver, not the hardware.

The MS software VC-1 decoder is multithreaded, I think?
multithreaded for progressive, single threaded for interlaced iirc.
ofc, better than not being able to decode interlaced at all.
there was talk before about integrating the microsoft decoder into lav video, was that scrapped?
with all the hardware acceleration available now, it is not terribly important, but it would be cool.
and then we could have vc-1 turned on in lav video by default.

Thats a ReClock bug, nothing that can be done.
Enable MPC-HCs Audio Switcher, it'll prevent this from happening.
like i said, mpc-hc's built-in audio decoder works perfectly. i forgot to mention that this only happens to 2 channel FLAC files. 6ch FLAC files work fine(encoded as ac3 and sent to my receiver by ReClock).
also your suggestion does not work. lav audio does not even make a connection. here are two screenshots.

With DXVA2 MPEG2 still artefacts - Sample (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?79f42499cc12964), Full file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?e2v8eva8780a2lk)
That file is odd.
Go decode it with software. :p

First of all, its not a audio decoder bug. MPC-HCs internal decoder works because MPC-HC forces it into the graph, but the decoder doesn't control if its used or not. :)
I fiddled around with the flac mediatype as exposed by the splitter, and it seems to be fixed. Its still a ReClock bug though, it shouldn't accept FLAC if it cannot bitstream it.
wait, lav splitter is a flac source filter?
Sure, its a source filter for a gazillion of formats, most i just don't expose in the installer.

The MS software VC-1 decoder is multithreaded, I think?
from what Ive once heard, it only looks like being multithreaded, because task manager is juggling with the load or something like that. not sure if thats still the latest news, though.
I guess if it was really multithreaded, I wouldnt need to complain about speed issues with (interlaced) VC-1 stuff. (normal=progressive VC-1 HD videos also tend to create more speed problems than in case of multithreaded AVC decoding for example (in cases of comparable video bitrate of course))

That file is odd.
Go decode it with software. :p
In this case will be very useful to add option for preventing H/W decoding of SD-video ;)
P.S. That file plays fine via CUVID, Cyberlink DXVA/HAM, Microsoft DTV/DVD; PotPlayers DXVA VLD plays with light garbling.
And another related bug - on many SAT-captured video garbling appears at playback beginning/when seeking (for example this file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kamofff5u9fc916)), fast seeking of that files cause VGA-driver hanging (NV GTS450).

25th January 2012, 21:56
If you have an NVIDIA, i would always prefer CUVID, its just better. :p
Anyhow, i fixed it a tiny bit that it doesn't crap out completely at the beginning anymore, but its still not really good. :(
Maybe i can still find something, we'll see.

Bit-streaming of E-AC3 (DDPlus) from Blu-rays is not supported at this time, and possibly never will be.
That one demo disc you mention in the ticket is the *only* known disc to actually use that type of audio, no real world movie ever used it to my knowledge.
Yes- no point to bother with DD Plus.

I think there's some confusion here about DD Plus. LAV Audio supports it just fine when it comes from sources other than Blu-ray. HD DVD's, for example, bitstream just fine and decode just fine. I haven't yet seen a broadcast in the US with DD Plus but I know other countries do. And those probably work ok. (The US will be using it soon....I keep telling myself that. :D)

Do you know if there any news of it working with AMD 6000 or 7000? Googling only takes me to a post of my own asking the same question at AVS.

I didn't know. I thought DDPlus Audio were fairly widespread.
Sure, its used on HDDVD and in some broadcasts, BUT, the Blu-ray version of DDPlus is "special", its not comparable to normal DDPlus, and its not used on any actual Blu-rays. :)
Blu-rays use something rather odd, there is a normal DD/AC3 5.1 stream, and then there is a 4 channel DDPlus stream. If the player is capable of playing that DDPlus stream, its used to replace the surround channels from the 5.1 stream, as well as adding two new channels, giving 7.1 ... its a odd setup, just for the sake of supporting players that don't understand DDPlus.

Didn't work with the commercial players either, so we all thought it was the driver or hardware at the time. So kudos!

Ffdshow has a bug that prevents it from working. The hardware has always supported it, though. When bitstreaming was added to lav audio it was one of the first things I tried and it worked perfectly.

I found a bug in 0.45-rc, video playback is sluggish and choppy with AV splitter on this sample (http://www.mediafire.com/?i5a343iotmczic3), on previous version of LAV video(0.44) everything is fine. This problem occurs only when LAV video is in the CUVID mode. BTW I packed AV splitter .ax with video sample into archive file, in case you don't have one.

I tried LAV CUVID MPEG4 on a GT440 VP4 card and I can say for sure that there is no ASP HW acceleration.
I tried every video file I have in ASP format (Advanced Simple Profile@L5), I mean all of my 720p and 1080p video files and I got a black screen.
They couldn't play at all.
The only clips they got HW acceleration were Simple@L3 clips and Mpeg-4 Visual (DivX 5) clips.
The decoding was bug-less and fast enough.
Hardest clip 1080/30p gave me 70fps in benchmark mode.

congrats on beating Intel Quicksync on the Mpeg-2 CPU Consumption with the current DXVA2 copy back not sure yet what are the differences visually between Quicksyncs VLD and Libavcodecs DXVA2 but it in consumption (decoding efficiency) it wins so far :)
lav video quicksync = 9%/37%
lav video dxva2 = 7%/41%
that looks like a good balance CPU/GPU :)

I tried LAV CUVID MPEG4 on a GT440 VP4 card and I can say for sure that there is no ASP HW acceleration.
Must be a driver issue, alot of the clips i tested with LAV CUVID back in the day don't work anymore.
But i cba to install older drivers, maybe someone else feels compelled to do it. :)
Thats why the option is off by default. :p
I also added a warning message in the hover tip
Afterall, its MPEG4, it rarely comes in HD, and even if it does, its decoded very easily in software.

A lot of problems with MPEG4 ASP and Nvidia hardware/ drivers.
It makes sense now that nobody supports MPEG4 ASP on Nvidia HW in DXVA mode and you are the only one who tried to support in NVCUVID, with limited success though.
I'm wondering what is the situation regarding UVD3 HW and MPEG4 ASP.
Does anyone have Advanced Simple Profile@L5 clips and UVD3 to test ?

A lot of problems with MPEG4 ASP and Nvidia hardware/ drivers.
It used to work much better, must've been maybe around 270 driver or so.
Its probably just a issue in the cuvid library, maybe a DXVA solution would work better.
We'll see, maybe a new driver fixes it again, if it doesn't, i may remove it again some day.

Benchmark
lav video = 63% = 438 fps
lav video dxva2 = 26% = 350 fps
lav video quicksync = 40% = 312 fps
ffdshow-quicksync = 56% = 335 fps

Nev, could you have another look at MsVideo1/MSRLE and other paletted formats? With LAV Splitter the palette data is handled automatically, but for the MS AVI splitter you need to do that manually. Relevant code can be found in libavformat\avidec.c line 624 and 1133.
nevcairiel
28th January 2012, 15:00
The funny thing is, i don't even know why it works with LAV. I don't supply the palette, but for some reason it figures it out.
I did however add some code that should try to send the palette to the decoder.
Edit:
I also figured out why/how it works with LAV, hooray. :)
