I agree.
But usually Nvidia is the lesser evil, compared to AMD or Intel.

I don't have any more details, I'm sorry. :(
I don't want to leak private messages information.

You can either report it at the Nvidia forums or send me a PM how to reproduce if it's not too difficult.
Then I can report it to someone else who has better access.
The way via the forums may not be the better one. ;)
If only we had hidden AMD friend as well ;D

Hello
aac audio inside some files, such as flv or mp4, doesn't work for me.
I can't get any sound from them using Potplayer, VLC or other players.

I tried this file on my system with LAV filters : no sound
Then I demuxed & decompessed the file to .wav and tried to compress the audio part using winrar : got a file from about 500 bytes !! That's 500 bytes for more then 7 min audio !!
Any real audio data doesn't compress that much using winrar !!
My conclusion : there is very little data in the file, I think it's just a silent audiostream with a very low and almost constant audio level.
Forget the audio in this file.
Anyway they sound in a different computer
I wonder what you hear on this computer ... ??

Did it ever work with any driver?
If it's rather a hardware issue they hardly will be able to fix it via driver.
And VP2 isn't that new anymore.

My advice: Don't wait for a fix. ;)

it worked with 275 iirc.

i made a post about it somewhere in this thread lol.

Nice one! Do you think they would listen if you were to mention to them that cuda vc-1 decoding produces blocky artifacts on VP2 hardware, eg GTX295
Can you upload a sample? I'm on VP2 too in the form of a 9600m GT ... :)

Yeah, I fully support your stand, nev. Proper normalization can't be done in one-pass scenario so it's not feasible for real-time playback use at all.:sly:
Anyone who wants normalized volume should re-encode their material beforehand, period. Otherwise use volume knobs and live with possible clipping, that's all you can get.

Just use the amp's volume knob(s) and even the clipping issue is sorted out (without any loss of sound quality that something as infernal as real time dynamic compression or normalisation is) :)

Does it happen with Microsoft's VC-1 decoder too?
A VC-1 sample that can be played by the WMP without extensions (maybe in a mp4 container?) could be helpful.

Hi nevcairiel!

Will LAV Splitter support "Seamless Branching" or "segment linking" for .mkv files in one of the next releases?

Where does it crash ? Lav splitter or audio or video ?
If you have LAV filters installed, unreg LAV-video and see if it still crashes.
If it still crashes, then unreg Lav-audio and check again.
Let us know the results from this small test.

note: don't manually unreg the splitter, it will never work if you do so.
Use always un-install to remove the splitter !

I'm not sure about partial.
But with this sample the VPU is used with my VP4:
http://videos.rockstargames.com/streams/maxpayne3-en_us-designtech4-1280.wmv.zip

Does this sample work with VP2 and DXVA?
If not, does it work with driver 275.33?
Then I could try to report it.

When playing a WMV "VC-1 (WMV3)(MP)" (as reported by MediaInfo) from RAR archives, it DOESN'T work.

Screenshots :
http://imgur.com/XMTg3,0Hv4H,WbdUt,c95KZ#0

The fourth screenshot seems to indicate its a RAR File Source problem.
It complains there is no media inside.

And no, there is no chance that LAV will handle RARs. Mostly because i think its stupid to keep your files packed in rar archives.

I wonder if you can help me to troubleshoot an issue I am having?

I want to use LAV with CUVID hardware acceleration, and i bought a GT430 passive for the purpose.

I run Mediaportal in single seat and also a second client. I use LAV for movies, and PDVD12 for live tv.

If I play a movie in the living room (single seat) using LAV codec, then the live tv stream to the client, and any tv recordings on the single seat break up and pixellate.

I did some troubleshooting and determined that the problem only exists if I have CUVID hardware acceleration switched on. Not sure why this could be?

Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I'm using Windows 7 and the tesla (276.52 I think) drivers, although have also tried the latest normal Nvidia drivers and have the same problem.

It's baffling me!

im not sure, but you have to be pretty vigilant when you are checking for artifacts, it only happens occasionally.

I unreg LAV-video and LAV-audio trough BSPlayer and now works fine.
In fact,Lav-video decoder cant unreg in BSPlayer,i put that on black list.

Whats a good place to upload a ~200mb file? I took a 1 min cut from the dark knight bluray to an mkv file. Just need to upload it somewhere suitable.

I have taken note of the sections of the clip that show distortions / blockyness with vc-1 vp2, which are fine with non cuda decoders (and fine with older drivers < 285 release). Heres the details of drivers where I found it worked, and after which it didn't work.

Nvidia Driver - Cuda dll version - Status
285.62 - 8.17.12.8562 - broken
285.38 - 8.17.12.8538 - broken
285.27 - 8.17.12.8527 - broken
280.36 - 8.17.12.8036 - working
280.26 - 8.17.12.8026 - working

did you tried to only replace the nvcuvid.dll of 285.62 with that of 280.36 or better just move that into the lavfilters folder where lavvideo is located, though i dunno out of my mind if 280 and 285 share the same cuda version so this might fail.

Where has it been reported? And the LAV one? Do you have a link? Just wondering where to report other issues myself. Thx.

Well, I submitted several bug reports about MPEG-4 CUVID acceleration problems.

I used this (http://nvidia-submit.custhelp.com/app/ask) feedback form.

I found something interesting today.

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/301.24/301.24-win7-winvista-desktop-release-notes.pdf

Quote from the fixed issues in 301.24

LAV was mentioned in the NVIDIA release notes. :D
I should install 301.24 later, see how things work (on 301.10 right now)

I can confirm that they fixed MPEG-4 ASP issue, I tried several samples and they played just fine. :D

The stream has all the flags set for AC3, an AC3 stream type and an AC3 audio descriptor. If its not AC3, then the file is just broken.

wanezhiling

Maybe MPC-HC and haali just "score a lucky hit".

nevcairiel
14th April 2012, 17:28
MPC-HCs splitter doesn't look at the stream types are format descriptors, it just trys to guess what codec it is based on the stream. In this case, that will get you the proper result.
In many other cases however, this causes quite some issues.

Always crash on start, double click on file and down.
I unreg LAV-video and LAV-audio trough BSPlayer and now works fine.
In fact,Lav-video decoder cant unreg in BSPlayer,i put that on black list.

You can unreg like this :
1. Go to the folder where LAV-filters are installed.
2. Do you see these .bat files for reg/unreg each component ?
3. If not, download the .7z from LAV filters, this contains the .bat files to register/unregister each component.
4. You can also use "regsvr32 /u Lavvideo.ax", but it's safer to use the pre-made .bat files.
5 To register again : "regsvr32 Lavvideo.ax" (without quotes), or use the .bat file.

You didn't remove the LAV-splitter, right ? Leave the splitter as is.
Is the LAV-splitter used by BSPlayer ?
Does it still work if you don't unreg LAV-audio ?
What are your decoder settings for LAV-Video (softw decoding, CUVID, DXVA-CB, or DXVA native ?)
First try with lav-audio regged again.
Then set LAV-video on software decoding and see if this works.

Do you know whether the renderer in BSPlayer supports dxva ?
At the time I used BSplayer, they had a "self made" renderer, not something standard. Is this still the case ?

Edit : I installed Bsplayer262.1066 myself to check if it works with LAV :

Got it working, but there are still some issues :
LAV-video : it seems that the renderer somehow doesn't accept NV12 or YV12, so I set LAV-video to output RGB32.
This kind of works but the image is always upside-down !!
There is no option in BSP to rotate/flip images, so if nothing else is working, you could use FFDhow raw to flip the image.

see http://www.mediafire.com/conv/1dea45d4891f9f55659abba8a303058ba5a1b2ea1ddf375e556663a22b0c3f556g.jpg

Second issue is the usual when Haali Splitter is installed : this makes that BSP uses Haali instead of Lav-splitter.
I guess blacklisting Haali will solve this.
I've tried different formats (containers) and different codecs : LAV-video/audio were always used.
If you're interested, I could give you my .ini file with my settings.

RAR-source works only when there is no compression done by RAR.
For most movies, RAR uses "store" with no compression, but for this RAR file an "deflate compression" is used.
That is the reason RAR-source can not open this RAR.

Repack it with Winrar/rar using "store" and RAR-source will work.

Nev: I just had a crazy idea (well not that crazy, but bear w/ me...)! How about an auto update feature for LAV Filters? Could finally solve the issue of every other system having out-dated decoders installed. Firefox does it. uTorrent does it. Adobe reader does it.

Its easy for applications, but a DirectShow filter cannot update itself silently.

Superb
14th April 2012, 23:57
Well, It would have to close any program that uses it (via DirectShow) in order to upgrade.
One way would be an installer that shows a list a programs that use the .dll and asks you to shut them down in order to update. (not silent, but better than expecting users to update by themselves)
EDIT: see "tasklist /m LAVVideo.ax"
EDIT 2: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms682621%28v=vs.85%29.aspx (doesn't seem so hard...)
A nice less-intrusive way to do it would be to update every major version (ie. 0.x0.0) and skip minor ones (ie. 0.50.x)...

CruNcher
15th April 2012, 00:02
Its easy for applications, but a DirectShow filter cannot update itself silently.

Yeah though DivX included their update system call into the decoder whenever you call it it calls its update executable when it's not already running and checks for a new version which then triggers the download the installer and so on, not silent of course you still get a UAC message though the installation could be after that silent ;)

Though i really wished Microsoft would have created a 3rd Party Update Center all these services and update execs now swapping the users system IMHO is a very bad thing Microsoft should have taken control (lead) over this in a Managed way, they made so many bad 3rd party code responsible for problems and now they just look how this will slow down the users systems again it's hard to believe i guess they are very confident in 3rd parties and their own Dynamic System Analyzing which got crazy good indeed since NT 6 Watson, Wer updates and the other things that where added are really like mini KIs now with the enhanced ETW system continuously providing them with System and Application Status Data :) but they wont be able to stop memory leaks and or lost cycles due to inefficient idle state coding or other resource loses due to maybe permanently running executables.

I guess though we might see some 3rd party approaches handling these Silent update systems from different 3rd parties under 1 Hood in the future, though a Microsoft developed system with 1 Goal 1 clear API imho would have been much better (also for opting in out and controlling the update status and choices, versions ect from 1 Unique Place (3rd Party Update Center) instead from very different ones now needing most time to open each application and configure it what a fallback into the StoneAGE from a clean system design)

The thing here was not to Develop a Apt or another package manager kind of complexity just something that gives 3rd parties a possibility to handle their silent updates to the user from 1 place without 1000 different executables and service entries now starting to crowd users systems :(

About RAR-source : it's clearly documentated that it does not handle "compressed" RAR-files.

About BS-player : I got a crash with BSplayer and guess what : I got a crash report system that I saw before..... MadVR !!
They integrated MadVR into their player !
Since they sell it for money, I wonder if Madsi is aware of this..
For the rest, you are right : the player installed a FFDshow version from 2009, an outdated Haali splitter from 04-2010,...

But the integrated MadVR must be recent, because the automatic crash reports are only recently implemented.

Thanks, heres a 30 second sample from the dark knight blu-ray, which shows clear blockyness at 0 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds. Can you reproduce?
Yes, I can see them.

Builds fine for me, must be on your end.
You should make sure ffmpeg is checked out with LF line endings (set git config core.autocrlf to "false" or "input", not to "true")

Edit:
I also fixed it in the repository that it shouldnt be needed anymore.

Nev: I just had a crazy idea (well not that crazy, but bear w/ me...)! How about an auto update feature for LAV Filters? Could finally solve the issue of every other system having out-dated decoders installed. Firefox does it. uTorrent does it. Adobe reader does it.

Thanks, but NO. Auto-voodoo updates makes us all more stupid :scared: Especially in the case of Windows itself and of the Acrobloat Reader.

On what videocard and which driver? If nvidia which is the purevideo version? (vp2,vp3,vp4,vp5) And using cuvid?

Something else:
I am lost in the current hardware front, nowdays. Which chipset and which processor, videocard (integrated or it doesn't require this component) do I need if I want to get QuickSync decoder working?
I'm interested in both desktop and laptop ...

Thanks

Users like you (and I) don't need the feature, but most of the people I know (average Joe) do need it.
