Hmm, it seems that I'm still having problems with L-SMASH. The strange thing is that it seems to open correctly when it does the autocropping but it borks after.

I have no problems encoding this file with FFMS2.

Are you able to reproduce this? I also had this error two times but after a MeGUI restart it was possible to start the encoding without error.
AMED
27th January 2014, 09:35
Yes I can reproduce this over and over with this file.
I've tried to shorten the filename. I've tried a shorted folder name. I've tried lowering workers down to 1. I have remuxed the file in mkvtoolnix. Nothing I do seems to change the error.
I've tried to make 20MB and 500MB samples of the file but it seems to go through oneclick without any problems.

Please try this build:
http://megui.org/test/MeGUI.zip
I have added the threads parameter to the function call. As it is only a test the same value as for ffms is used (default 1). Please try it with 1 and report back.

Ever since the last couple of updates I'm getting MeGUI stuck in the middle of an encode. As far as I can tell it's pretty much random, it either gets stuck and idling during the first pass or the second without any rule. In each case I had to go to task manager and shut it down.

Is it possible to maybe make the update window sortable by name and status? I had all sorts of packages
become disabled for some reason (including x264, eac3to, ffmpeg, tsmuxer) and might be easier to group the status rather than go through the entire list.

I tried it during one of the last updates but failed. Somehow the correct event was not triggered. Maybe I will have a look again later.

I had also updated avs4x264mod.exe in the last x264 package. Can you please update back to x264 2389 but leave the avs4x264mod.exe untouched from the x264 2377 package. Btw. I have encoded ~20 long video files with x264 2389 without problems.
EDIT: as avs4x264mod is only used on x64 sytems - are you using it at all?

Could you change the update window a little so that
- disabled components either have some icon next to them or are shown in different colour
- users can sort the window's contents based by columns? (date/status comes to mind as useful)
?

how about the komisar builds? Those are quite similar to the ones that used to be on x264.nl. For example they supported mp4 when the vlc builds didn't.

Same here.
There is x264.exe.backup and x264_64.exe.backup file in ..MeGUI\tools\x264\ library.
Is it enough to rename them to get back previous version of x264?
Or is there something else to do?
EDIT: I started a new process, but in log dialog tab of megui there is no information about version of x264.

.backup is likely to be previous version so renaming it should work. you can also do properties on the .exe and see the version number.

1st pass is profile main unless you use --slow-firstpass

Just a little thing.....
After using the script creator to add vobsub subtitles to a script, they're added correctly, like this:
VobSub("E:\subs.idx")
If you change the subtitle file to a srt/ssa subtitle, MeGUI doesn't correctly switch to using TextSub and the script looks like this:
VobSub("E:\subs.srt")
If you add a srt/ssa subtitle first, then switch to a vobsub subtitle, MeGUI correctly changes from TextSub to VobSub, but not when doing it the other way around.

I was wondering if it was possible to add support for custom Audio encoders? so the user could select the .exe from the custom audio configuration and then manually type in the command line needed.
I was hoping to use fhgaacenc with MeGUI. the quality is much better than Nero and all you need to do is grab 2 files from the Winamp installer to make it work.
fhgaacenc version 20120624 by tmkk
Usage: fhgaacenc.exe [options] infile [outfile]
Note: pass - as infile to encode from stdin.
pass - as outfile to encode to stdout (ADTS only).
General encoding options
--cbr <bitrate> : encode in CBR mode, bitrate=8..576
--vbr <preset> : encode in VBR mode, preset=1..6 [default]
--profile <auto|lc|he|hev2> : choose AAC profile (only for CBR mode)
auto : automatically choose the optimum profile
according to the bitrate [default]
lc : force use LC-AAC profile
he : force use HE-AAC (AAC+SBR) profile
hev2 : force use HE-AAC v2 (AAC+SBR+PS) profile
--adts : use ADTS container instead of MPEG-4
Other options
--ignorelength : ignore the size of data chunk when encoding from pipe
--quiet : don't print the progress

Have you gone in to the settings, external program configuration tab and enabled nero aac and browsed to the exe location?

At one stage I found MeGUI was happier if neroAacEnc.,exe was in the tools\eac3to folder. You shouldn't need any of the other neroAacEnc files. It might be because if eac3to needs to use neroAacEnc.exe that's where it needs to be, but I'm fairly sure by default, that's where MeGUI excepts to find it.
Following AMED's instructions in the previous post would probably solve the problem, but I'm not sure whether neroAacEnc.exe also needs to be copied to the tools\eac3to folder in order for eac3to to be able to use it (if you want to convert audio to AAC using the HD Stream Extractor, for example).

The x264 encoder configuration seems to be behaving a little oddly when checking the bluray compatibility option. After loading the default x264 settings and checking bluray compatibility, the commandline looks like this:
program --bluray-compat --output "output" "input"
After unchecking it, the commandline is this:
program --b-pyramid strict --weightp 1 --aud --nal-hrd vbr --output "output" "input"
I assume unchecking bluray compatibility isn't also undoing the other related bluray settings, but out of curiosity, isn't slices=4 mandatory for bluray? If so, I'm wondering why checking the bluray compatibility doesn't also enforce that?
I'd be leaving enforcing all the other compulsory bluray settings to selecting Bluray as the target playback device, while checking the option in the enoder configuration just adds --bluray-compat to the commandline. It seems checking it doesn't also set the required VBV restrictions. I'm not sure if there's a reason for it enforcing some of the other options required for bluray compatibility but not all of them.
If you wanted to do add --bluray-compat to the commandline on it's own, you could add it to the custom command line section. Except....
When you do, the command line displayed is this:
program --bluray-compat --weightp 2 --output "output" "input"
It's probably left over from the days when checking the bluray compatibility option did the same thing, but I don't think weightp=2 is legal for bluray. Fortunately the GUI doesn't prevent you from changing it back to weightp=1

Frome the change notes (someone said that slices is not required for bluray):
[x264] if --bluray-compat is used without a BluRay device selected:
--bframes is restricted to 3
--open-gop is not forced anymore
--ref is restricted to 6
--slices 4 is not forced anymore
--weightp is restricted to 0 or 1
unchecking the --bluray-compat option cannot undo all settings as a user may have changed one of the values on his/her own.

Thanks - fixed in 2470

2471 [Update] merged some avisynth plugins into one package
[Update] fixed problem with the installation of the avs package

2470 [AVS Script Creator] fixed sometimes using VobSub instead of TextSub
2469 [FFMS Indexer] do not index audio tracks if they will be demuxed
2468 [MKV Demuxer] if a delay is needed e.g. "Delay 123ms" (instead of "123ms") will be added to the demuxed file name

I must have been having a dumb day. I now see the GUI is only enforcing/restricting the changing of other x264 options in line with what --bluray-compat is doing, which doesn't include slices=4.
Out of curiosity I did a little research, and as best as I can tell slices=4 is only required for level 4.1.

I've been trying to use the One-Click encoder and have had the problem that the encoder always creates an AVS file that downsizes the resolution. I can't seem to get it to stay at 1080p, even though I have the option of the resize resolution set to 1080 and I have checked "allow upsizing". I always get a log like this:
The video is taken from a purchased iTunes movie, with the DRM having been removed by M4VGear.

I'm getting those fatal errors too when I start megui. will try the test build.
Also, I think Level 4.1 vbv settings might be off. When L 4.1 is selected:
--vbv-bufsize 78125 --vbv-maxrate 62500
and that throws a warning when encoding:
---[Warning] x264 [warning]: VBV bitrate (62500) > level limit (50000)
---[Warning] x264 [warning]: VBV buffer (78125) > level limit (62500)
Lastly, was there a solution for latest x264 crashing on 1st pass ?

I think I found the problem - it crashes when auto update is disabled.
Also, I think Level 4.1 vbv settings might be off. When L 4.1 is selected:

This is ok during the 1st pass as then the main profile is used.
Lastly, was there a solution for latest x264 crashing on 1st pass ?
Yes, downgrade to an older build. I will force that soon.

Yes, downgrade to an older build. I will force that soon.
There must be something causing it as there's no issue running latest x264 from cmd.
I guess downgrading to 2377 works as a temp solution, but down the line if you can't update, megui will have to use a pretty old revision.

Please upload a sample file and tell me the steps to reproduce it.
1. Index the sample with FFMS2 (unselect audio).
2. When the Avisynth creator opens, enable crop and click and hold the up arrow for the top crop.
3. It should crash around 40 - 58.
This crash can also be triggered by constant clicking and changing the cropping values, but it's hard to reproduce.
For some reason the auto crop doesn't work with this sample either, maybe too dark.

It is working for me. Can you please upload the xml files in the MeGUI root directory somewhere?
I enabled QAAC in the autoupdate without enabling it in the settings.
Now it works fine and I get QAAC scratchpad profile.

I have reports that it is also not working from cli:
https://sourceforge.net/p/megui/bugs/749/
Ah, hmm. I'm using komisar clear for cli, no issues there. Maybe it is something to do with the vlc builds indeed.
