When custom --sar command is added to the x264 config dialog, the command line in the log defaults to --sar 1:1.
Is that meant to work this way?
The force SAR gui works fine though.

I need to have a look at the problem. At the moment I can only say that there is a bug report describing a similar problem: http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3300094

I am still wondering why the M2TS bitrate calculations are still broken... can't you just take the formulas/codes from version 0.3.5.0 and put them back in to the latest build? Currently I am using the latest MeGUI, but I have to use 0.3.5.0 to find the bitrate, change my preset and then not target a filesize in my output.... 0.3.5.0 is much easier to use, but I like/want/need the features of the latest build.

I filed that bug report. Doesn't matter if I use a custom command line sar or use the pulldown "Force SAR" option... all encodes are forced into --SAR 1:1

Thanks for looking into it. :thanks:

PS - I wish the Force SAR also had "--sar 4320:4739" and the other ratio for 16x9 (whatever the numbers are - sorry, I don't have them memorized).

not sure of this is for just bugs, or issues aswell....anyway, i have noticed that a lot of performance is wasted when MeGUI is dealing with the audio.

only 1 core (1 thread) is utilized, even when doing 2 audio tracks.....

MP3 encoding and AAC encoding can take a good 8 minutes on my system, however with all four cores being used, just over 2 minutes....

have noticed some other inefficiencies aswell....i am aware that MeGUI is open source and must use secondary applications that are too open source (most of which are quite old), even so i thought i would share this if it hasn't been shared already.

it came to me the other day when i was converting a 3.2 hour long film.... the audio (3 tracks- 1 main - 2 Commentary) took 40 minutes to do, that when i felt i should at least share my thoughts.

i guess programs like Azids/ MP3 Lame are just..... old i guess when it comes to multi-threading, strange that these programs haven't been replaces with superior versions (multithreaded from the ground up)

anyway, great program, starting to get the hang of it..... a lot of stuff to digest, a lot of window swapping (finding it difficult to get use to jumping from one dialogue screen to another....) but getting there. still get the feeling of CHAOS sometimes, have to close program and start fresh just to shake that feeling.

Have you considered integrating of ProjectX among the tools set as preindexing step ?
It is useful for DVB-X origin sources, performing MPG PS/TS demuxing to M2V + MP2 or WAV, together with fixing DVB transmission errors and related A/V sync errors.

This could be eventually generalized to custom toolset item.

Just added this bug to the tracker at SF. I know how you guys love those international bugs, ANSI code page vs Unicode UTF-8, annoying little bugs and errors.

I wonder why none of the other Eastern European folks mentioned this error before, is it because it's something special with the system I'm temporarily using here that's set to one code page (Serbian) but users characters from another one (Polish)?

SourceForge.net > Projects > MeGUI > Tracker > Bugs >
Mux Error Due To Eastern European Letters in Video Filename (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3301107&group_id=156112&atid=798476)

When the input file includes Eastern European (Polish) letters in the file name the mux job will fail with error since the video stream file will have empty boxes instead of those characters (e.g. Ą ą Ć ć Ę ę ł Ł Ń ń ó Ś ś Ź ź Ż ż) in the file name. (Polish Alphabet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_alphabet )

The Windows XP system is running with the Serbian (Latinic) code page selected in the Control Panel, Regional, Advanced settings as the default code page. The Microsoft Windows XP Serbian Language Pack (freely downloadable from Microsoft) was applied to the current system to turn all prompts into Serbian language.

It appears that the output in the Log tab in MeGUI also shows the empty boxes instead of the letters. It appears that in MeGUI the .AVS input script line FFVideoSource() is the one that shows the problem first with the missing character.

--[NoImage] FFVideoSource("C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Videos\Czterej Pancerni i Pies\Czterej Pancerni i Pies - 01 - Zaoga.mp4").AssumeFPS(25,1)

However, when then actual .AVS file is opened in Notepad the characters show up correctly and the file is in ANSI format.

Almost forgot to mention this. The .AVI filename produced has the blank
box character, and when I rename the file and replace those characters with
the proper letters in the file name and re-run the errored out jobs the mux
and clean-up complete successfully. So I have a work-around but not a fix.

I could use czech filenames, but I do not try fortune and make filenames for processing chain de-spaced and ASCII friendly.

I REPORTED (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1398665#post1398665) a while ago that audio encodings would randomly get messed up when running 2 audio encoding jobs at the same time using avisynth.

getting Process exits with error code: -1073741819 with a certain clip. i tried indexing it again but it doesn't help. i get the error within 20 seconds of starting to encode the job. I am using 2019 (svn) version of MeGUI. Is there a particular reason this one 3000-frame clip is getting the error?

Its not just you. I am getting the same error and exit on numerous encodes since the last couple updates of x264. Something is wrong with the latest version but I have no idea what.

EDIT: Still not sure what is going on. Reinstalled the stable version (2009) which was running fine before and it errored out with the same code on the same files. I am now trying to run them on a different machine to see if something wierd is going on with my pc...

EDIT2: Well it only happens on one pc and not the other but the one where it happens has the nvidia chip running dgindexnv. I have now run into the error enough times to figure out its with avisynth.dll, not x264. MeGUI avisynthcreator can fail if the frame opened inthe preview window has whatever it is avisynth.dll is bombing on. No idea what. I am running avisynth 2.5.8 is that correct version?

While the above issue still haunts me quite frequently I have an independant question or feature request.

If I open a file with the 'File' 'Open', then index sequence, after indexing meGUI fills in the video and audio encoding parameters ready for me to hit autoencode. Very convienient.

Sometimes, the audio is already exactly as it should be and does not need recoding. Is there an option or could there be for the autoencode to pass through the current audio track unaltered and just mux it with the recoded video track? Perhaps just an encoder setting of 'passthrough' would do the trick. Or is there already a way to do this and I missed it?

While the above issue still haunts me quite frequently I have an independant question or feature request.

If I open a file with the 'File' 'Open', then index sequence, after indexing meGUI fills in the video and audio encoding parameters ready for me to hit autoencode. Very convienient.

Sometimes, the audio is already exactly as it should be and does not need recoding. Is there an option or could there be for the autoencode to pass through the current audio track unaltered and just mux it with the recoded video track? Perhaps just an encoder setting of 'passthrough' would do the trick. Or is there already a way to do this and I missed it?

There is.... this was a peeve of mine for a while until I figured it out. Before you hit autoencode, remove the audio from the main window with the "X" located next to the "enqueue" button. When the autoencode window pops up there is a check box to add additional content at the bottom, check this. Then you can add the unaltered audio in the mux stage. You can set this in the settings==>extra config==>configure autoencode defaults==>check "add additional content"... this way that little check box is always on.

I loaded an MKV file into the HD Streams Extractor. The MKV container had a 1080p video file, an audio file, and 2 subtitle tracks (both SRT files).

I selected to extract ONLY the two subtitle streams. However, the HD Streams Extractor also extracted the video track. I think this is a bug.

just wondering, is megui going to implement the vhq metric for xvid? i've been using xvid 1.3.1 with virtualdub and i love the results the vhq metric (psnr-hvs-m) is giving, but i would love to see it in megui as well. it gives r-d optimizations and i can tell the difference between an xvid 1.2.2 and xvid 1.3.1 encode. i hope megui updates its xvid, i have not come across any bugs recently with the new xvid build and i encode 720p avi's to 2.8gb from 20+gb x264 files. they all play nicely on my HD media player on my 1080p TV.

Edit: i found the problem. its an xvid_encraw problem not a xvid developer problem which is why i can create avi files over 2gb with virtualdub.

I have some serious problem with any MeGUI build newer than 1911. I tried both stable and dev, I installed Matroska and ffdshow, but no difference!

Every time I open an avs file with an ImageSource, I get:
Fatal Error:
MeGUI encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed.
Reason: Attempted to read or write memory protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

The avs files are not even complex, they are just:

ImageSource("imgseq_%d.png", 1,1001,25)
ConvertToYV12()

I have absolutely no problem on or before build 1911.

Can you help me how to solve this issue? I really don't know what is causing it!

I've found an issue using the One Click Encoder when using episode DVD's that have been ripped in a way that each episode's file have identical file naming. The One Click Encoder gets totally messed up because it uses the same name for the d2v file creation.

e.g.

http://s4.postimage.org/a6jz49hd3/Me_GUI2.png (http://www.postimage.org/)
free image hosting (http://www.postimage.org/)

As you can see it will overwrite the same d2v file when the queue runs.

http://s4.postimage.org/ktcgb3n6u/Me_GUI.png (http://www.postimage.org/)
adult image hosting (http://www.postimage.org/)

A smarter way to handle this is to name the intermediate and output files based on the folder names.

So if a folder structure is Bones S04xE11\VIDEO_TS

IF Folder = VIDEO_TS
Files will be prefixed with Bones S04xE11
ELSE
Files will be prefixed VIDEO_TS (or whatever the folder is called they are in)

Of course this should be an optional setting in MeGUI. Maybe called Smart File Naming?

I formatted and did a fresh installation of win x64 7,
then I installed megui v. 2028 and to my surprise I didn't see any blue ray profiles in the encoders settings, only Xvid profiles.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem?

@Zathor - In the development build, it looks like a non MT version of FFMS is being included now (R460). Since R470, MT and non MT versions have been merged (all are MT capable now), so if you update it to R473 (latest version) we should be good.

ffms2 r470-473 merged versions can crash, with a no-mt AviSynth, in circustances than vanilla ffms2 work fine.

Zathor

That's the reason why I do not use the newer MT builds anymore. The MT builds crash e.g. when the deinterlacing detection is running for AVI files. I have not tried it yet with threads=1.

I know, it's equal to 29.970, which was the selected fps (interlaced, tff encode)

Wow, that "29" in the 5th and 6th decimal place really makes a difference.
I'll try it again. Thanks Zathor.

Edit: Well, that did it ! Thanks again. What threw me off is that, sometime in the past, I used that same 29.970fps avs script with no problem. I suppose now that x264/Megui has become more BD compatible, the parameters are stricter. And, that's a good thing, of course.

BTW, I had read either here, or in the Megui General questions thread, that upgarding my Core2 Duo E8450 3.0Ghz/ 6mb L2 processor to a Quad Q9650 3.0Ghz/ 12mb L2 would increase my processing speed ~15% (IIRC).

Welll, I did the upgrade last week and Holy Blu-ray Batman, the fps more than doubled and the processing speed, on the same 10min BD test clip, was cut by more than half, on both the first and second pass. Nice surprise, needless to say!

2033 [OneClick] fixed editing of mkv mux jobs
2032 [OneClick] preserve audio track order
2031 [OneClick] added option to mux the audio source file only if the codec is the same as requested
2029 [x264] --keyint will not be applied twice if specified in the custom command line

Updated to 2033, i keep getting this error when using autoencode to set the final size and select what audio to mux

Enqueueing just video works but i like the Autoencode option because it autocalculates the bitrate needed.

OK, I could share some more information regarding the strange behaviour of the Preview window with Avisynth files containing ImageSource source.

If I use MeGUI in default settings with "Open Preview after Avisynth script selection" ON, I either get an:
- "Fatal Error: MeGUI encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed. Reason: Attempted to read or write memory protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."
- OR MeGUI just freezes randomly with the border of the preview windows appearing, but then freezing.
Which one happens is totally random.

If I switch OFF the "Open Preview after Avisynth script selection", MeGUI opens and encodes perfectly.

The strange thing is that if auto-open preview is OFF, I can just manually click "Reopen video preview" and it always works perfectly! No matter how many times I open and close that dialog, it works perfectly!

Using Avisynth 2.5.8 with NO plugins in the avs files. Just one line avs files for ImageSource (+convert YV12).

More of a cosmetics thing but when configuring x264 settings.

2034 has broken MKV muxing.

I use Autoencode to produce an MKV - I use the Playstation 3 X264 profile and the Nero AAC profile to produce the audio. Both run but the muxing job ignores the audio, so I get an MKV with no sound. I am using the X64 version of Megui.

Sample log attached.

No, it only happens with ImageSource, DirectShowSource works perfectly.

Also, it only happens on builds > 1911. In builds <= 1911 ImageSource works perfectly. I only tested stable builds, not dev ones, but there was a change between 1911 and the next stable what broke auto-preview when ImageSource.

To resume the log, the command line for mkvmerge seems cut the audio part:
