Don't know what version you used before, but it's not from the recent updates. It's a rather old issue.
I have this for years now since I need a zoom factor above 100 on some of my screens.
And as long as I still have parts of the preview button to click on, I learned to live with it.
Don't expect any fix to this since MeGUI development is pretty much dead.
I came across the missing buttons problem recently, after finally installing Windows 11. There's no zooming here.
Oddly though, I installed Linux on a different hard drive and Win11 in VirtualBox and the buttons were fine. Whatever's causing it, I couldn't get the full buttons to display on Win11 as the sole OS, but on Win11 in VirtualBox on Linux I couldn't find a way to stop them displaying properly....

Hello hello_hello, haven't encountered you for years since you helped me get my head round avisynth on videohelp. My Windows is still 10, my Megui IS 2933 and has been for years so I can only assume that one of the plugin updates has caused the issue.

I get my Avisynth from the "AvisynthRepository" which lets you choose from various avisynth versions. I've been using the x86 2.6.0 version but today I uninstalled it and tried 2.6.0 SEt's multi-threaded build. When I ran a script I got an error message telling me it could not load the plugin D:\MeGUI\tools\ffms\ffms2.dll") so I went back to vanilla 2.6.0 and all is well. Can anyone suggest why the SEt version couldn't load that plugin? Thanks

I was resigned to 'living with it' too until I was editing a DVD and realised there was a black bar on the right that I had missed because of the faulty MeGUI preview. So now I'm back to MeGUI version 2913 and it's happy days.

For me the preview window works now as it should. The issue with the reworked Worker window however is new. I've seen that on 4k screens too.

Anybody know why MeGui automatically adds ConvertBits(8) to the avisynth script when using DGIndexNV? Is it intentional? It doesn't do it with any other decoder, including regular DGIndex. And is there a way to make it not add it?

I've just used MeGUI 2944 x64 with a script using DirectShowSource and added at the foot of the script is:
ConvertBits(8)
ConvertToYV12()
Doesn't bother me given that the result was good.

Well that's pretty much why I was asking. I wasn't sure if it was a unintentional bug that needed to be reported or whether it was intentional and I was just unaware of the reasoning for it.

Hello, I hope everyone's well :) . It's been a while, but I'm venturing into 4K-HEVC sources for the first time and have discovered that, when indexing any (well, at least x264 and x265) 10 bit source with L-SMASH Works, MeGUI does the indexing without issue but as soon as I choose a preset script it crashes. A bit of testing later, I've learned that L-SMASH (or MeGUI?) adds ", format="YUV420P10" to the end of the "LWLibavVideoSource\PATH" and is the cause of the crash, because if I change the "10" to an "8" (even though the source is 10 bit) the script runs without issue. It's not a burden to edit the "10" to an "8" but I'm simply curious if there's a fix for this. Ahhh, Win 7 with the latest MeGui updates from the developmental server. Thanks for any information.
Just because, I tried to index with FFMSIndex and it was the same result--crashing as soon as I selected a preset script--but there's no "format" addition to edit and adding ',format="YUV420P8"' to the end of the source path doesn't help (MeGUI still crashes).

Probably a lot more recent than auto updated (That thread has lotsa new ver$ tools) for MeGUI.

Yep, and where I'm from, "Bender" could be taken as a bit of an insult.
Futurama (I dont have a TV), is not the first thing that came to mind the first time that LCM used the word.
EDIT: To below, no offense taken :) [I dont recall discusssing that topic before, perhaps I was a bit pissed]

StainlessS: I explained this once years ago: the combination of your avatar (I know he's Jack Haley as The Tin Man) and "I sometimes post sober." make me hear Bender's (well, John DiMaggio's) voice in my head when I read your posts. Absolutely zero offense intended and I apologize if you are :) .
_____________
Snatched the newest L-SMASH thanks to StainlessS's--say that fast five times--suggestion but MeGUI still crashes as soon as I select a preset script, and now it doesn't even leave an .avs file (it used to).

I don't know if someone already reported this, but there is a problem with hardcoded subtitles.
I have tried to re-convert an old movie (mp4) with hardcoded subtitles (ssa). After loading the subtitle and clicking on "Preview AVS Script" I get the following message:
AvySinth Script error:
Plugin was designed for a later version of Avisynth (8)
I have MeGUI 2944 (x64) and updated according to "Development update server"
I think the problem lies in the AviSynth plugin version 13 because I didn't have this problem with version 11.
Is there any solution for this? Or at least be able to downgrade AviSynth plugin to version 11?
Thanks.

The problem can be in the VSFilter.dll v3.2.0.806 than need a new AviSynth version still not verified with MeGUI.
You can extract the VSFilter.dll v3.1.0.801 from Megui 2913 (https://www.videohelp.com/software/MeGUI/old-versions) (with the plugins v11 package) and replace it in ...megui\tools\avisynth_plugin folder.
I tested it and work fine.
Or you can install the last AviSynth+ v3.7.3 r4003 and a new AviSynthWrapper.dll and use it instead the MeGUI default AviSynth+ v3.5.1 included.
Verified ok also.

Thanks for your help.
I've already installed that version of AviSynth and it didn't work (although I think I didn't add a new AviSynthWrapper.dll... is it mandatory?).
I'll downgrade the VSFilter.dll and see how it goes.
Thanks.

REQUEST: Is it possible to add a zoom factor larger than 1:1 to the preview window?
Working with SD material on a 4k screen gives just such a tiny preview window that it's very hard to see how good or bad my filtering scripts work. :o

LeXXuz,
It'd be handy, but you could always temporarily add resizing to the end of your script. This would give you a 3x zoom:
Spline36Resize(width()*3, height()*3)

That's what I'm doing actually. :D
The annoyance here is that I often compare source and filtered version.
So I have to switch between two scripts instead of just pressing the "reopen original video" button. Problem this way is I often make temporary tweaks in my stored scripts which are gone when I have to switch to a 2nd script with just an upsizer to compare source and filtered version.
With the "open original video" button MeGUI keeps my script with the latest tweaks but displays a tiny source video.
Hence my wish and suggestion for a permanent zoom setting in the preview window. :)

After the new soxfilter 2.0 (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1994527#post1994527) (32 and 64 bits) I recommend use it to downmix 7.1 -> 5.1 instead SoftClipperFromAudX()
# As AudioLimiter.dll is not available, SoftClipperFromAudX() cannot be used
# 7.1 Channels L,R,C,LFE,BL,BR,SL,SR -> standard 5.1
function c71_c51(clip a)
{
front = GetChannel(a, 1, 2, 3, 4)
back = GetChannel(a, 5, 6)
side = GetChannel(a, 7, 8)
mix = MixAudio(back, side, 0.5, 0.5).SoxFilter("compand 0.0,0.0 -90,-84,-8,-2,-6,-1,-0,-0.1").ConvertAudioToFloat()
return MergeChannels(front, mix)
}
# 5.1.2 Channels L,R,C,LFE,SL,SR,TFL,TFR -> standard 5.1
function c512_c51(clip a)
{
front = GetChannel(a, 1, 2)
midch = GetChannel(a, 3, 4, 5, 6)
topfr = GetChannel(a, 7, 8)

return MergeChannels(mix, midch)
}
# 6.1 Channels L,R,C,LFE,BC,SL,SR -> standard 5.1
function c71_c51(clip a)
{
front = GetChannel(a, 1, 2, 3, 4)
back = GetChannel(a, 5, 5)

Hello!
I've encountered a weird error. Upon installing Megui on a new PC, everything seems well at first. But when running a job, Megui crashes upon the job completion (and there are other jobs it's supposed to run after). When reopening Megui, the queue has all jobs, including the completed one, as "waiting", and there is no error log whatsoever. Has anyone encountered it before and knows what to do?

Yes. I encounter the same issue. When i run 2-pass x265 encoding it will post error on the second pass. My workaround all these while was toI change the status to waiting and close MeGUI and reopen. I try again to run the second pass and it runs till the end.

The thing is even after reopening it doesn't say error. It is shown as waiting again even though a file was made. And if I rerun the job, it rewrite the file but again, just crashes upon completion, and no logs.

Hello there!
Is the development of MeGUI still ongoing, or only the libraries are updated? I made a simple feature request (almost 2 years ago :D ), even did a .patch file for the source code (I don't have "push" permissions to the repository, nor the tools to build whole package), but it went unnoticed I think...
And I just asked to add "SincResize" to the resizers list. https://sourceforge.net/p/megui/feature-requests/677/

I wonder the same thing.
Hope in this new year of 2024 we can get MeGUI to add support for encoders like AV1 and VVC.

Hey there. Need help! :)
I did a video capture of the problem. (https://youtu.be/mHPs5Nj3glU)
Short version:
MeGUI does not display my AVS preview at all (after indexing a VOB).
Longer version:
New install of latest MeGUI x64 to date. Win10 x64.
I previously messed with MeGUI for years, everything worked fine, until I started experimenting with multithreaded Avisynth to speed up QTGMC (in Virtual Dub). I remember my old MeGUI setup breaking because of that. This was years ago, I don't remember the details. But at the time, any AVS preview would just straight up crash MeGUI.
This behaviour continued on a new fresh install if I let MeGUI to use external Avisynth.
I did my best to uninstall everything that looked like Avisynth (backed up and deleted folders, removed registry keys, installed new Avisynth+ 3.7.3, both x86 and x64).
Now MeGUI doesn't crash, but both external and internal Avisynths do not open after indexing a source. This applies to a DVD that I definitely encoded with MeGUI years ago, too. So, not a source issue.
MeGUI is run with admin rights.
So, the error is:
Once the indexing is done, MeGUI returns:
The file so-and-so.d2v cannot be opened. Error message: the video stream cannot be opened.
After that, the AVS script creator window opens, but doesn't work (the buttons like Save and Preview are greyed out).
I'll do another round of cleanup, but at this point it looks like something else. Will appreciate any advice! I wanna mess with QTGMC again. :)
upd. Installing dgindexnv into MeGUI manually didn't help. (The update servers wouldn't provide it to me.) It does index with it, but throws the same error.

In your video capture show the old MEGUI 2944 x64 instead the new 6666.0204
So, the error is:
Once the indexing is done, MeGUI returns:
The file so-and-so.d2v cannot be opened. Error message: the video stream cannot be opened.
Not exactly "file so-and-so.d2v" but a very long name in K: device
Exists that file? You can write over K: device?
Vospi
21st April 2024, 21:23
I'm afraid that can't help. :(
I overwrote it with "the new version" (very sure it was a new version downloaded from Videohelp), nothing changed (at all), apart from the window name.
Yes, of course the index file exists. MeGUI is run with admin, as I said.
Folder access is definitely not an issue: the indexer creates all the files and even demuxes the video stream without trouble. My intuition is that it really stumbles on Avisynth specifically. But then I don't understand why even the "internal avisynth" option is not working.
Again, it happens on a different disk as well. But I doublechecked the folder access and writeability.
Thanks for looking at the video, btw

Sorry but I can't reproduce your problem, log attached.
- Used MeGUI 6666 but also 2944 x64
- I use a local and easy temporal folder
- Of course over a unprotected DVD, try MakeMKV (https://www.makemkv.com/) over protected DVD's

The name of the index file looks wrong to me. Contains path name and spaces.
You may open the .d2v file in Editor and have a look at the path reference inside.
Does the path exist ? Is the path accessible at decode time ?
I would get rid of the spaces in path first. Rename folder
Yvon Marciano - Courts Metrages -> Yvon_Marciano_-_Courts_Metrages.
Then index new.
Index file should then have the name vts_03_1.d2v and no path parts.
Countercheck the .d2v path reference.
Observe the possibility of absolute or relative paths.
One (relative) allows moving of the index/vob set together, in the same folder, the other one (absolute) does not.

@Vospi - IIRC the "local" Avisynth will, if a global one is installed utilize the plugin-folders set within the registry to autoload from there and if those plugins (32bit vs. 64bit, version, etc.) are not comaptible that may lead to such problems. You can try to add ClearAutoloadDirs() (http://avisynth.nl/index.php/AviSynth+#New_Functions) ontop of your .avs file and set MeGUI to use its internal avisynth.
Edit: Eventually you may have to set AddAutoloadDir() after the Clear* to the plugin-folder of meGUI's Avisynth *<megui>/tools/avs/plugins* (AFAIK the tools/avisynth_plugins folder ain't used by meGUIs avs to autoload from it).
