Also, if anyone finds it useful, L-SMASH Indexer works with VC-1 video if the video (only the video, no audio) is muxed as a .ts file (using tsMuxeR) then indexed with L-SMASH. I don't know why this works but it does (I've been doing this successfully for several years). Out of paranoia I demux the video to raw .vc1 (using the HD Steams Extractor) then remux it with tsMuxeR, but it might work otherwise, too.

Mhm, I have to test that. But in any case even if it works that way that is far from being optimal as I would always have to include steps to remux it.

I agree that it's not very practical and isn't really doable within MeGUI, I just posted the information in case someone found it useful (since it's a way to still use MeGUI for the encoding) :) .

When you use 'HD streams extractor tool' to extract the video muxed as .mkv, eac3to need Haali Matroska Muxer.

But you can extract (Extract As) that video as elementary video stream .h264, and now you don't need Haali Matroska Muxer.

For some functions the haali splitter is needed. You have that twice in the log. It cannot be installed by MeGUI as for that administrative permissions are required. MeGUI will not perform such actions automatically, but you will be informed that it is required.

Also not all eac3to use cases need the splitter.

I would even doubt that TransportStreams with AAC audio are very common. I guess a surveillance camera may produce that. But I don't know any consumer media format for cinematic movies offering such a combination.

AAC in TS is used for TV broadcast in some regions so it shouldn't be that uncommon. (German DVB-T2 specs require HE-AAC player support as well)

/.../I wouldn't know, I'm just an end user that hasn't changed any of the settings of that tool.

Even if it's rare with AAC in ts, other people than me will end up with this problem too, for sure. Maybe doing it the same way as it's done with the Nero AAC encoder, that a popup informs you of a separate and manual download in some part of the configuration? At least a more informative log message would be useful, one that informs you that something needs to be installed manually, and preferably how.

It'd be a large post, because it was a detailed feature request, so rather than copy and paste it here I'll paste a link to the feature request on SourceForge.... if anyone would care to read it, comment there or here, and/or offer further suggestions, or tell me it's a silly idea... but I think it has potential and others may come up with better ideas for implementing it, or for implementing something similar.

Its a suggestion for making it easier to add custom filters to a script via the script creator and to enable and disable them via the GUI, and a method of working around the problem of adding custom filters to a script manually, only to have MeGUI re-write the entire script if you change something in the script creator GUI.

Current MeGUI UI is ugly in high DPI settings in Windows 10.

Could you release a build with DPI aware?

It's quite simple, just uncomment following code in app.manifest and rebuild it.

Maybe there's more to it than that? I don't know for sure, but from the changelog:

removed the DPI aware flag (requires Windows Vista+)
The application will now look blurry when using 150+% DPI but all controls are visible

Known Problems:
- Windows XP and older is not supported
- Unicode is not supported
- non default DPI values are not supported

Oneclick encoder problem:

DTS-HDMA to FLAC doesn't encode the lossless MA but the DTS core only (first it demuxes the DTS-HDMA, then it extracts the DTS core, then it encodes the DTS core to FLAC).

And there is no toggle switch to tell it not to extract the core.

This doesn't make any sense.

eac3to extracts the DTS-HDMA directly to FLAC.

Could you please fix this so it encodes the lossless to FLAC?

It's funny thing, both of the versions require to work ping.exe in ...\system32\

I have my windows extra tight, didn't have it, but fixed it for the test.
the newest version of LSMASHSource gives some other error in log and the old one that i downloaded from the link that You specified gives also an error but different one.
Window pop out saying that i don't have some library...

Not gonna put log of it, it's not worth while since FFMS is working.

So far, I can repeat the following over and over using Firefox.

Load this forum page.
Click on the link in post #5207 to open it in a new tab.
Direct image loads. Click again and load in a new tab, it's always the direct image.
Switch to the tab displaying the direct image and refresh it.
The "wrapper page" loads.
Now every time I click on the link in #5207 the wrapper page opens in a new tab, until....
I refresh the doom9 page in which case clicking on the link goes back to taking me to the direct image.

Pasting the direct link into the address bar opens the the direct image until I refresh the tab after it's opened, and once I do the wrapper page also appears when pasting the direct link into the address bar....

I thought I was losing my mind at first.... if I refresh the doom9 page containing the link when I paste the direct link into the address bar it goes back to opening the image directly again, but clicking on the link in the doom9 page isn't required. Simply refreshing the doom9 page is enough.

I've gone through the above cycle something like 20 times and it's been 100% repeatable. Most fun of all, it doesn't seem to apply to images globally, but on a per image basis.

Pale Moon.... no matter what I did the direct links always opened directly to the image. No wrapper page. I disabled referrers, checked and deleted cookies... nothing made a difference.... and just as I was about to give up it occurred to me to put Pale Moon into Firefox compatibility mode (it identifies itself to sites as Firefox as well as Pale Moon).
That did it. I could repeat all the above behaviour with Pale Moon even though I don't understand any of it.

According to Avisynth InfoTool it requires msvcr100.dll whereas the current version requires msvcr120.dll. You can put msvcr100.dll in the same folder as LSmash, but if it's in the MeGUI Lsmash folder, MeGUI might delete it each time it starts. You'd have to check.

FFMS2 does my head in because if you index with it and crop or resize too quickly in the script creator, MeGUI has a hissy fit and crashes. Lsmash doesn't have that problem.
On the other hand if you don't select any audio in the file indexer, MeGUI will tell ffms2 not to index the audio so it'll index very large files noticeably faster than LSmash, which has no such option.

hmm so there is no "best" solution, gona stay with FFMS newer versions work and i used it only once for testing.
I encode mp4 from camera, it's XAVC video na PCM twos audio.
MeGUI needs only HalliMediaSplitter and ffdshow to do it without indexing, other mp4 files with AVC video it indexes, but not does from the camera.
I was using StaxRip but of course there are no working updates on XP and the last working didn't read twos so i had to use audacity and ac3 encoder.
What i'm trying to say is that MeGUI does it's job very nicely and I'm using almost last ffmpeg for audio... i'm happy.

To the best of my knowledge, AFTEN was merged back with ffmpeg a fair while ago and no longer seems to be updated, but the extent of my knowledge ends with "it's an AC3 encoder".

The AFTEN page still works, and there's a link for it's command line options, but I don't really know anything else. I've rarely done any AC3 encoding.

It is certainly based on Aften, but I don't know either how much it was improved since. But also I do remember that some people are interested in continuing the development to E-AC3 and more than 6 channels. Not yet done, though, I hope they will be successful.

Yep, the author of Aften work in ffmpeg team and the ffmpeg versión is better than Aften, at least in:

- 2.0 Aften do some mix of channels, ffmpeg not.

- 5.1 ffmpeg now use channel coupling features, not present in Aften, to improve output.

I discovered I could prevent a TinyPic hosted image from displaying in Firefox this way.

- Open a forum page with an image such as the one in VoodooFX's post.
- Right click and select "view image". The full image displays own it's own.
- Refresh the page. It's redirected to the "sharing page" instead of the full image.
- Click back to return to the forum page. The image no longer displays.
- Refresh the page and the image returns.
- Rinse and repeat.

Well that's what was happening a little while ago, but this time the image is still displaying in the post. However the direct link keeps redirecting to the "sharing page" until the forum page is refreshed, then it goes back to being a direct link.

When Pale Moon is in Pale Moon mode, the TinyPic site obviously has no idea what browser it is, so it must run in "dumb mode" and I'm never redirected to the "sharing page". As soon as I enable Firefox compatibility mode, the behaviour for Firefox and Pale Moon become the same.

I don't understand where it's going wrong as such because I can't work out how the redirection is controlled, but I think in some circumstances a browser might load a page containing a hosted image and the request is redirected. It's the only logical explanation I have so far but if it's correct it'd mean it's happening for you every time Opera loads a page containing a TinyPic hosted image.... for reasons unknown so far.

I partly confabulated that theory by looking at the links provided by postimage.org. Their site is pretty much the same but seems to work without the redirection. They give you a link for sharing the image and reading ads if your ad blocker is disabled:

That's my theory and it seems logical at the moment, but it could very well be a load of bullocks. I sent the support folks at TinyPic an email asking them though, because I think I'm at the point of no return now. I need to understand. Hopefully they'll reply. I'll let you know.

While I developed my own ability to batch files in MKVMerge with a program called MacroXpress, it was very cumbersome. Recently, I discovered “MKVBatch” which is a front end to MKVMerge. I don’t know how their code is setup, but it performs batch merging of codec, audio and chapter files (all previously extracted) just as you’d expect. It takes all such files in a folder and correctly muxes all of them, in individual streams, in one step.

Yes, I have seen that “never” option from the ‘encode’ drop-down, but had assumed that it would simply remove the audio, as opposed to a passthru, based upon the wording. You’re right: it does retain the original audio.

I do mean DGIndex, not the NV version (which I don’t own and am only interested in indexing m2v’s anyway). I was expecting that the One-Click process, as part of the batch processing, would first extract the codecs from the MKV and then index them. I didn’t think that the indexer would open/extract the MKV container. So, my thinking was that the codec is extracted and then indexed by MeGUI, but that I should be able to select which indexer MeGUI would use on the codec after the extraction.

"The codec" is a piece of software, and it is not included in an MKV. A video stream in a specific video format is probably included. That may be extracted if necessary and supported.

MPEG-2 video in MKV is not supported by DGMPGDec. FFMS2 and L-SMASH Works will support it without preparing the source file. Extracting a raw video stream from an MKV container instead is a severe effort, and handling raw video formats is sometimes less reliable than using it from within a container which has additional information about the content. Raw MPEG-2 is not a big issue. But raw AVC or HEVC may lack of some important attributes (like the frame rate).

If you need the raw video stream, you can probably use the tool "HD Stream Extractor"; but this is not automated in the One Click Encoder, apparently.

I've read, over and over, that it's better to index the raw stream rather than doing it from within the container. Are you sure about your statement to the contrary? Can you point me to supporting discussion on it? I would be very interested to read it.

It depends on both the video format and the handling software.

DGMPGDec supports MPEG-2 video both raw as well as in ProgramStream (e.g. VOB files) and TransportStream (with or without TS frame timestamps, 188 or 192 bytes) containers. But not the MKV container. DGMPGDec is so old, the MKV container format was not yet common in these times.

AVC or HEVC video streams may be handled raw as well as in TS or MP4 or MKV container by some source plugins for AviSynth. But the raw video stream may not contain some attributes a video tool would usually need to know. If I remember right, raw AVC may not contain the frame rate. When it is in a container, the container will preserve it. And MeGUI will remember it as long as it is processed in a job (e.g. if x264 creates a new raw AVC video stream, MeGUI will tell the MP4 or MKV multiplexer the frame rate of the source video).

I can't point you to a discussion, but about the only time I've ever indexed raw video streams would be in the case of mpeg2 in an MKV, which I'd extract first. Either that or I'd open the MKV with TSMuxer and remux the video as a TS file first (DGIndex can open them).
I don't rip DVDs with MakeMKV though, so 99.999% of the time I'd use vob files as the source. For Bluray video I've always used the HD Streams Extractor to extract the video to an MKV for re-encoding.

Given MakeMKV is commonly use for ripping DVDs these days, maybe MeGUI needs to become more clever with MKV sources containing mpeg2 video. Most Avisynth GUI's assume NTSC/PAL mpeg2 will be in a DGIndex compatible container as that's how it's traditionally been done.

Technically there's probably no reason why L-Smash or FFMS2 can't be used to index MKVs containing mpeg2 video, but currently it doesn't handle those sources in an ideal way. Info here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1788049#post1788049
